I just bought the Planning admin book.
It's an excellent introduction to Planning -- not everything you'll need to know but that would be asking the impossible. The examples are clear, to the point, and concise. I'm particularly enjoying/benefiting from the EPMA section right now as I'm working for the first time with that product.
As with all of the other "Look Smarter" books, I will recommend it to my clients.

Two of the best guides available online, now need updating due to Oracle updating file names/file numbers in their latest release (13 Nov 2008).

Multiple source columns from Oracle DB to Hyperion Essbase cube

Hi Experts ,
We have a Source as oracle table to the target Hyperion Essbase Cube(Planning) 11.1.2 using ODI 11g.
Right now my issue is We need to map multiple columns from Oracle DB to One Dimension in Essbase (Planning).
For example -> * In Oracle table i have columns as Name,Volume,unit and item *
In Essbase the dimension called "*CatDefinition has lower level members as Name,Volume,unit and item * "
Now using ODI ,* I want to map the oracle table columns(Multiple) to the dimension(Catdefinition) ? * Please suggest me with idea to achieve multiple column mapping to the single dimension in Essbase .

Do you even need FDM? You could build a load rule in Essbase directly. If you need to map, then you would register the Essbase target adapter.

My company has installed the “Oracle Financial”, “Procure to Pay”, “Order to Cash” and “Human Resource”, now for executives he wants to choose products, so my task is to prepare a document to highlight the features versus cost, that which product may enhance our productivity, please note that “Dashboard capabilities like Oracle BI” is necessary part of this implementation.

FDM:how to load data from oracle DB to hyperion essbase

Hi,
I want to get data from the orcle database and load it into Hyperion Essbase.Do i need to have any source adapter for it or only by using essbase target adapter I can get it ?

You want an integration import script along with an Essbase target adaptor -- see page 197 of the fdm admin guide at:

You will need to use an ODBC compliant Oracle driver for FDM to connect to your db --
the examples in the admin guide are SQL server connections. The Oracle connection strings are
slightly different.

Hi All,
It was staging area problem.
So,I created new schema(User/Password in Oracle Database),and give staging area to that newly created schema(Defination Tab of Interface).
Also,in Flow tab,I selected LKM File to SQL. and problem resolved.

Need Help to get into Oracle Hyperion Env

Hi All,
I want to make my carrier as Hyperion Essbase & HFM consultant. Where can i start to improve my knowledge. and I don't have any previous experience in this env. But to improve my knowledge i have read Essbase-6.5 admin guide and hfm admin guide and some basic interview questions stuff of Essbase. but i am not happy with all these. i need some real time scenarios, examples and critical issues. and also can you suggest some of docs which necessary to reed.

I strongly recommand:
You should attend a training course.
1. "Essbase boot camp"
2. "Essbase (EPM) Administration"
to get a basic idea what you are about to work with.
Yes I know, this is very often a question of money...
But
3. There are a lot of books such as:
The Series "Look smarter then you are with ..."
"Oracle Essbase & Oracle OLAP" (this is good to learn basics about R-OLPA (Oracle) and M-OLPA Essbase the differences and pros and cons)
Just search google for more books and infos.
AND dont miss out the Oracle documentation!

Hyperion Essbase 9 and database.mdb

Hi all, I have installed Hyperion Essbase 9
- Hyperion essbase 9 server
- Hyperion essbase 9 administration services
- Hyperion essbase 9 cliend add-in for excell
Now i want do olap analysis on a database foodmart.mdb. I have problem to load it on essbase server. I can create only new db.

Sherpa,
Of the 24 tables in your Access, not all have data in . You might need to code SQL to pull the required data or make one smart data source file to load it into the cube .For that one needs to know what exactly the final presentation of your reports would look . I see few tables are just meant for description and other tables have data . Firstly,Request you to understand the essbase load process, which includes the campatible data sources and their formats .
As Andy suggested , DBAG or essbase tutorial is a good option . "SQL interface " documentation along with all Hyperion documentation can be found in the following URL

I'm using the interface which successfully loading data into Essbase in ODI 10.1.3.5, but this interface doesn't work in ODI 11.1.1.5...

There is not a set limit, you set it to the most optimal value for the database you are loading to which you will find by peforming tests with different values.

Hyperion Essbase on 64-bit and Other application are on 32-bit

Hi
I am going to Install Hyperion Essbase on AIX (Version: 6.1) on 64-bit and Other Hyperion application like EAS,EIS, calc manager, Foundation services, Financial report and planning on windows 2008 SP2 with 32-Bit.
I future any connectivity issue will occur with two different bit type or there will no issue.
Please guide me here, above combination is fine or not.

Is Hyperion Essbase 9x/11x Compatible with Excel 2000

Hi ,
We are currently using Excel 2000 and Planning to implement Hyperion Essbase and Planning 9x/11x newly. Can any one please let me know whether
"Hyperion Essbase 9x/11x is compatible with Excel 2000" which we are currently using. Will it be compatible for Essbase Excel Add-ins usage.

Yes As John suggested 11 X support only Office 2002 (XP), 2003, 2007, Its always better to use only supported Ver of Office/

Do you mean Essbase 9.2 that shipped with System 9.2? If so, then you need "Hyperion Application Builder for NET Release 9.2.0". Note this is the only release of this product in the System 9 timeframe.
If you need pre-System 9, then the Hyperion Objects product has .NET classes included.
We wrote both the VB objects and the .NET objects for Hyperion; their people took over code maintenance for the 9.2 release. We use the source in our Dodeca product, maintain it and compile it as part of our automated daily builds of our Dodeca product.

How to start working with fresh hyperion essbase 11.1.2.2

Hi Experts,
I have installed and configured hyperion 11.1.2.2 with below component
1.Essbase
2.HFM
3.HFR
4.Weblogic
5.Oracle HTTP Server
Now I want to start working with hyperion Essbase but not getting a proper way to start from where, its totally different from 11.1.3 which I used previously,
So please help me which services to start with sequence and how to login into Essbsae console/studio to create new database with steps

If you want to use the standalone clients then you will need to install them separately, all the clients are available in the clients package which can be downloaded.
It is also possible to use the EAS web console but the port you connect will depend on how you have configured the system, for example
EAS deployed to own managed server - http://<servername>:10080/easconsole/console.html
EAS deployed to one managed server - http://<servername>:9000/easconsole/console.html
or you can use the http server port 19000, 9000 depending on the http server deployed.
