Oracle IAS and Servlets2.x compatibility

Hi,
Does someone knows what Servlet API version is supported by Oracle IAS 8i ????
I am sure that the 2.0 is provided by JServ but what about the 2.1 or (better) 2.2 ??
Regards

ias 1.00 or 1.0.1 which i assume you are referring to as ias 8i follows the apache lead for servlets api 2.0 in the "jserv" component.
it has an oracle jsp engine in it which is very close to 1.1
the ias 9i version has two jvm's which can support jsp's and servlets.
tehnapache "jserv" as described above
anfd the "oracle 9i jvm" (formerly known as the "jserver" component in the 8i rdbms.
the "oracle 9i jvm" can support servlets 2.2 and jsp 1.1 along with the ejb 1.1 specs.

Oracle 11 is mature. Oracle 12 is in beta and expected to be released this year. Are you running (or planning to run) Oracle 9 on Windows NT 4, on an intel 386?

There is a document in the Oracle 9iAS 1.0.2.2 Library titled "Using the PL-SQL Gateway" Part Number A90099-01.pdf that explains file upload and download through modplsql. In particular there is a section there titled "Direct BLOB Download" which explains how one can easily download a blob utilising the wpg_docload package.
I am still concerned that there exist duplicate copies of my blob content. One copy in the wwdoc_document$ table, and one in my custom table.

  • Oracle Ias 9i and Apache - How connected?

    Hi everybody,
    here is my problem:
i need to know how Oracle Ias 9i communicates with the Apache integrated in itself. I have to understand if i can redirect the requests to the Ias 9i through another Apache instance than the integrated one. This other Apache is resident on another server. Can i manage the communication between this new Apache istance and my Oracle Ias 9i? Does exist something similar to the mod_jk (communication Apache-Tomcat) i can use to do that? Or maybe the only Apache who can answer is the one integrated in my Oracle Ias 9i?
Please, i'm in a big big hurry...
    Thank you!!!

    Hi there,
Have you applied any patches to 9ias since it was first installed? We had the same problem and had to apply a couple of patches to get the portlets working.
    1. Apply the 9.0.2.53.16 one-off patch for Oracle 9iAS Discoverer which takes Discoverer up to 9.0.2.53.16. This patch appears to be password protected and you need to get someone at Oracle support to give you a password.
    2. Apply the Discoverer Portlet Provider: 9.0.2.53.00c patch (patch no. 2595444) which gives you a new discportal.xsl file that actually works. It's this second step that solves your problem but you need to do step 1 before this. This is password protected as well.
    3. As you've upgraded Disco on the server to 9.0.2.53, you'll need to upgrade Disco Admin & Desktop within your 9iDS installation using patch no. 2555265. This is because Disco 9.0.2.53 uses an upgraded EUL that Disco Admin & Desktop need to be patched to use.
This was the course of action Oracle support advised us about nine months ago. Of course they may have released a further patch to Disco that does 1 & 2 in one go, but we regularly carry out steps 1 and 2 on servers we use and we can use the Disco portlets successfully.
    Hope this helps

    JDEVELOPER
JDEVELOPER is Oracle's Java development tool designed for coding / development,
testing / debugging, and deployment of Java Applications to the IAS and
    RDBMS platforms.
With the java software api's being in a constant state of evolution, each new
release of Jdeveloper adds support for the "then current" version of the java
software api's, if it does not already have it implemented.

The IAS product contains two Java Virtual Machines (JVM) within it's
    architecture.
    They are called :
    1) APACHE JSERV servlet engine
    2) ORACLE ENTERPRISE JAVA ENGINE (EJE)
    APACHE JSERV servlet engine
The APACHE JSERV servlet engine is an EXISTING product licensed from the
apache group which supports the servlet api 2.0.ONLY.
The APACHE JSERV product does not support ANY JSP's unless the customer
installs a third party jsp engine.
The IAS 8i/9i which has the APACHE JSERV product embedded in it, comes with
Oracle's JSP engine (OJSP) already integrated into it. OJSP supports JSP's up
to the specific JSP engine version documented in the Oracle Universal
Installer (OUI) for the 8.1.7 RDBMS or the IAS products. It is also documented
    in the product's release notes.
    Oracle ENTERPRISE JAVA ENGINE (EJE)
The EJE formerly known as :
    1) Oracle 8i Java Virtual Machine (JVM)
    2) JSERVER component,
    3) Aurora JVM
was originally releas ed in the RDBMS 8.1.5 database with jdk 1.1.6 based java
    support.
The currently supported versions of the Oracle 8i RDBMS, versions 2 and 3,
also known as Version 8.1.6 and 8.1.7, respectively, provides a jdk 1.2.1
    based java virtual machine support.
    "EJE" Version 816
This EJE, found in rdbms 8.1.6 and IAS 8i, contains support for the ejb
api 1.0, corba, and java stored procedures.
    "EJE" Version 817
This EJE, found in rdbms 8.1.7 and IAS 9i, contains support for the ejb,
corba, and java stored procedures as well as the Oracle Servlet Engine (OSE)
which provides support for the servlets 2.2 api and JSP 1.1 api.
    Note :
EJB support in the "EJE" Version 817 has been upgraded to comply with the EJB
1.1 api specification which includes "entity beans" support.
What is the bottom line ??
    1) Servlets deployed to the APACHE JSERV must comply with servlet api 2.0.
    2) Servlets 2.1 or higher are only supported in EJE's OSE component found in
the rdbms 817 or ias 9i products. Servlets api 2.0 can also run in the OSE.

which jvm is used by jserv ?? EJE or a separate jdk ?
The Jserv servlet engine is running in a separate jdk JVM external to the EJE jvm which is embedded within the "database" component of ias and the RDBMS.
See the reference below for more details ...
if jserv only support old apis, why it is in oracle's products ?
i would assume that the oracle servlet engine was under development when ias 8i was released and became available in time for the ias 9i and rdbms 817 products.
looking back in history leads me to believe ias 8i was a migration path to get to ias 9i or rdbms 817.
Based upon the long history of new releases of every oracle product being upgraded with new features, it's reasonable to assume that these products will continue to evolve.
when I deploy a jsp how to deploy in the right servlet container ("EJE") ?
as documented in the reference below, you can deploy JSP's to either the apache jserv jvm or the EJE since the ORACLE JSP engine functionality is in both jvm's.
there are many posts where you can see that people have deploy in jserv and they have problems because they don't use the right container (servlet 2.0 instead of
    servlet 2.2) http://technet.oracle.com:89/ubb/Forum2/HTML/006349.html
when ias 8i came out this was clearly an issue since servlet support was at api 2.0, and the current servlet api was probably at 2.1.
oracle clearly made every effort to get ias 9i released quickly to supply a servlet 2.1 and 2.2 capable engine to resolve this issue.
since ias 9i and rdbms 8.1.7 are available this is no longer an issue.
The reference below explains the architecture and understanding it would eliminate a lot of "deploy to the wrong ias 9i component" issues.
so why jserv is bundled with oracle 8i/9ias since EJE support the right api version ?
if in ias 9i release , oracle had removed the jserv component without any advance warning, many customers would have been very upset since oracle makes every attempt to give advance notice before removal of functionality.

  • Upgrade Oracle iAS 9.0.4.1 JDBC Driver to 9.2.0.8

    Hi,
I'm using Oracle Application Server 10g R1 (9.0.4.1) for a JDBC application that connects to an Oracle 9.2.0.7 Database.
Due to some NLS problems with JDBC connections which are out of the scope of this posting, I need to upgrade the JDBC Driver of iAS 9.0.4.1 to the latest JDBC Driver, closest to my database full version. Since there is no 9.2.0.7 JDBC Driver set, I downloaded the 9.2.0.8 JDBC Driver files for Java JRE 1.4 which is the jdk/jre of the iAS 9.0.4.1.
This set though, contains files ojdbc14.jar, ojdbc14_g.jar and ocrs12.jar and NOT the JDBC Driver files that are found in the ORACLE_HOME\jdbc\lib path of the iAS 9.0.4.1., and of course, replacing the existing with the new ones, does not work (does not update the JDBC Driver on the server).
How can this upgrade be archived?
Is anyone aware of the documented JDBC upgrade procedure for Oracle iAS 9.0.4.1, to driver version 9.2.0.8?
Why there is no classes12.zip or classes12.jar distribution in the JDBC driver 9.2.0.8 set?
    Thank you

  • How to Disable SSLv2 in Oracle IAS 10.1.3

How to disable SSLV2 in Oracle IAS 10.1.3.. I added below in ssl.conf file.. But it is not working...
    SSLProtocol -ALL SSLv3 TLSv1
    SSLCipherSuite ALL:!aNULL:!ADH:!eNULL:!LOW:!EXP:RC4+RSA:+HIGH:+MEDIUM
    Thanks
    Lalitha

How can you have WebCache if you are using 10.1.3 version?
The cause of this problem has been identified and verified in an unpublished Bug 4761833 : "IE FAILS TO TO CONNECT TO WEBCACHE VIA SSL IF SSLV2.0 IS NOT SELECTED".
By default Webcache sets its SSL_ENABLED parameter in webcache.xml to: SSLV3_V2H
This supports only SSL V2.0 and SSLV3.0 and not TLSV1.0
When IE makes a connection with: SSL V2.0, SSLV3.0, TLSV1.0 all checked, an Ethereal sniff shows:
    SSLV2 Client Hello
    SSLV3 Server Hello
When IE makes a connection with: SSLV3.0, TLSV1.0 checked, SSL v2.0 unchecked, an Ethereal sniff shows:
    TLSV1 Client Hello
SSLV3 Alert (Level: Fatal, Description: Unexpected Message)
When Firefox makes a connection with SSLV3.0, TLSV1.0 checked, SSL v2.0 unchecked an Ethereal
    sniff shows:
    SSLV2 Client Hello
    SSLV3 Server Hello
So even though SSLV2.0 is unchecked it still makes the initial Client Hello via SSLV2.0 hence why Mozilla works
The reason why IE fails when SSLV2.0 is unchecked is because IE always uses what it considers to be the best Protocol and picks TLSV1.0, and as the default SSL_ENABLED parameter in Webcache does not support TLS V1.0, then it fails.
    Solution
To implement the solution, execute the following steps:
    1. Edit the $ORACLE_HOME/webcache/webcache.xml
For the SSL Listen entry e.g:
    <LISTEN IPADDR="ANY" PORT="443" SSLENABLED="SSLV3_V2H" PORTTYPE="NORM">
    Change:
    "SSLV3_V2H"
    to
    "SSL"
    2. Save the file and restart webcache, and then test you can access Webcache via SSL with SSLV2.0 unchecked
    Hope this helps
    Regards.

  • Oracle Database10g Express Edition's compatibility with Forms/Reports 10g

    hi,
I have a problem while connecting from Oracle Forms/Reports 10g to Oracle Database10g Express Edition.I have configured through the net configuration assistant and it shows the test is also successful. But while connecting from Oracle Forms/Reports 10g, an error is being displayed saying that the TNS could not resolve service name(ORA - 012154). I am able to connect to my database server normally. I got a doubt now regarding Oracle Database10g Express Edition's compatibility with Oracle Developer Suite 10g. Can I use Oracle Database10g Express Edition as backend for Forms/Reports 10g in a stand alone machine.
Can anyone please give me a solution regarding my issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    RAKESH

12154 means that the TNSNAMES.ora that reports is using does not understand what the '@XE' means.
Check that you do not have several different TNSNAMES.ora files - there are probably several, and the one you are using probably does not point to XE. This is the most common cause I've seen.

    Hi,
asm resource is depending on diskgroup resource ... if diskgroup res. is not available, crsctl status shows offline, I would expect asm should be also shown as 'offline' (and brought offline) as they are dependent.
What is the point of managing resources via srvctl when it doesn't take care of dependencies? For me it's wrong.ora.asm : is ASM Instance
    ora.*.dg : is Diskgroup
ora.*.dg is dependent of ora.asm, not to the contrary.
I can have more than one diskgroup and want only one diskgroup disabled, so I need the ASM Instance (ora.asm) online.
    Important:
If you shut down the database with SQL*Plus, Oracle Restart does not interpret this as a database failure and does not attempt to restart the database.
Similarly, if you shut down the Oracle ASM instance with SQL*Plus or ASMCMD, Oracle Restart does not attempt to restart it.
An important difference between starting a component with SRVCTL and starting it with SQL*Plus (or another utility) is the following:
When you start a component with SRVCTL, any components on which this component depends are automatically started first, and in the proper order.
When you start a component with SQL*Plus (or another utility), other components in the dependency chain are not automatically started; you must ensure that any components on which this component depends are started.
Oracle Restart also manages the weak dependency between database instances and the Oracle Net listener (the listener): When a database instance is started, Oracle Restart attempts to start the listener. If the listener startup fails, then the database is still started. If the listener later fails, Oracle Restart does not shut down and restart any database instances.
It makes no sense Oracle Restart to shut down all environment (databases) because the listener down.

  • Oracle 9i and Red Hat Linux Exterprise WS

    Hi everyone,
Does anyone know if there is any compatible problem between Oracle 9i and RH WS 'coz I am going to purchase RH WS? And I jsut want to make sure the compatability beforehand.
    Stephanie

    Hi,
I downloaded the 9i, the installation started ok and I was
able to complete the install procedure, but a few things did not
    go as I planned:
1.- The installation MUST be run on the console X, and cannot
be run from a remote terminal (odd!).
2.- On a 2-CPU machine the installation didn't install all the
files for the sistem to start.
3.- During a second attempt the installer issued an error
    regarding a compilation problem.
Can anyone help me, I can't get the installer running without
    problems.

  • Separate User for Oracle RDBMS and EM Agent...

    Good Day All,
Has anyone here deployed the EM Agent (10.2 or 11.1) as it's own user? For example, leave the Oracle RDBMS binaries owned by "oracle" but install the EM Agent as "oagent."
I inquired with Oracle Support and I've received the "it is possible and done in some environments" but I want to know how many folks have done it, how large of a target base are you monitoring, and what target types have you tried. We are using a mixed RHEL & OEL environment.
Our goal is to separate the installation and support of the EM Agents from the RDBMS by team. I think we would want to have a shared Linux group... there might be some issues with the Inventory and writing to it by separate owners but we should be able to get around that.
    Thoughts?
    TIA!
    Regards,
    Rich

    Thanks for the response!
Besides central inventory, do you know of any other issues we might have with this configuration? Have you implemented this to monitor targets such as Linux hosts, Listeners, RDBMS, WebLogic, iAS, Peoplesoft, Siebel, etc?
    Regards,
    Rich
