  • New to J2EE and web development in java

    Hi folks,
    I have been developing desktop app in C# for the past two years. But now I am taking my masters and I am learning in Java. I am also interested in J2EE and wanted to develop web apps in Java. The problem is, I am very much confused with the tools, classes and etc Java uses. For example people say to me, you have to know Struts, Spring, JSP, Ant, Tomcat, Apache Tomcat, Hibernate, and etc. I tried to search every one of those and got some clue but not that much detail and now I am really confused.
    Before I go to coding (which is my interest), I wanted to know what tools to know and why and how they are used, at least the basics. Once I get some idea, I will keep on searching by myself. Can any body please tell me or give me a link of what tools I have to start with as a begineer web developer? Can any body give me a brief description about them?I downloaded Eclipse and I am almost familier on how to use it and I also write some code on it. These days, I downloaded J2EE, Struts, and Hibernate but I dont know how to use them and where to use them. No clue. Help me guys.
    Thank you.

    Step 1 : Download "Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers". You don't need anything else in terms of tools at the start.
    Step 2 : Get solid experience in basic Java development. Make sure you are very comfortable with the language and core API classes such as I/O, collections, etc. Do this in a basic Java project in Eclipse.
    Step 3 : Learn JSP and Servlets. These two technologies are the foundation of Java EE web app development. Use "Dynamic Web Project" in Eclipse and Tomcat as your server. For a good exercise, build a web app to manage a catalog of something by reading/writing to a text file local to the server.
    Step 4 : Learn JPA. This is the standard for modern Java database access. Make sure you learn JPA standard rather than a specific implementation like Hibernate. In fact, since you are asking on an Oracle site, I would recommend EclipseLink implementation of JPA rather than Hibernate. For an exercise take your app from Step 3 and make it use a database instead of a file. Use MySQL as your database.
    By the time you get this far you will have a good foundational knowledge of Java EE web development. Where you go from here will depend on your interests. If you are more interested in the web tier, you can learn some of the higher-level front-end technologies such as JSF or Struts that make it easier to build very large apps. If your interests are more in middle tier and scalability, start learning EJBs. Don't bother learning Ant or Maven unless your interests are specifically in build systems and release engineering. You don't need to know Ant/Maven to build/run/export Java EE applications in Eclipse.
    Good luck!
    - Konstantin

  • How to configure oracle 6i report server run time component with application server

    we got oracle 6i report server for developing the web based reports for our undergoing product. we r succesed in developing the web based reports using oracle 6i report server.But we r facing problems while deploying the product with oracle reports at clients place,why because the client does not have the oracle 6i report server. To solve this problem we have to configure the oracle 6i report server run time component with application server at client side , but we are unable to configure this component(that is CGI handler).

    You can run multiple instances of Reports Server in 6i.
    In tnsnames.ora, for each server, have a different name and each listening to different port.
    For example,
    server1.world = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(Host = myhost.mydomain.com)(Port = 1949))
    server2.world = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(Host = myhost.mydomain.com)(Port = 1950))
    Also, if you want to know about Reports Server Clustering, you may refer to "Publishing Reports" document on OTN:

  • Issue in Oracle 11g Database Change Notification  for Java application

    Hi,
    I am trying to use Oracle's Database Change Notification in Java application.
    I followed the sample application (+DBChangeNotification.java+ , Example 29-2), provided in the following link:
    +[http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/java.111/b31224/dbmgmnt.htm#CHDEJECF]+
    I am able to see that the Registration of the SQL query is successful.
    But, when I do changes to the table registered, notifications are not received in the Listener class (+DCNDemoListener.java+).
    Ideally, the method DCNDemoListener.onDatabaseChangeNotification() should be invoked on any insert/update to the registered table. But this method is not getting invoked.
    The execution has stopped in the following line of DBChangeNotification.java Class.
    this.wait();
    +==> The application was WAITing indefinitely in this line, as the NOTIFY() from DCNDemoListener.java was not executed.+
    I am using VPN to connect to Oracel server. Remote Oracle Server is protected my firewall. Is this the reason for not sending the notifications from Oracle server?
    The version of software used are given below:
    Oracle Client - Oracle 11.1.0
    JDK - 1.6
    Oracle JDBC Driver - ojdbc6.jar
    Can someone help me to resolve this issue?
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards
    Sam

    Hi,
    I am having similar issue. Where you able to resolve it.
    I am also using the same example you were using.
    I am using the following version.
    Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
    Compatibility: 11.2.0.0.0
    I do not see any notification coming back from the DB.
    Appreciate your help.

    Any help would be appreciated. Let me know if some bit of information is missing.

    In plain English (as I understand this): Oracle posted drivers that we won't be able to use until 8.1.6 comes out. The readme does indeed say, "JDBC OCI Driver 8.1.6: Client-side JDBC for use on a machine where OCI 8.1.6 is installed." Plus, the FAQ states, "There is no 8.1.6SDK JDBC-OCI driver - this will be available with 8.1.6"
    That FAQ was just updated (it is the top item on today's Technet front page).
    But the FAQ is erroneous: the driver exists and is available: from an item on the technet front page (from Jan 17th).
    We don't have Oracle 8.1.6 here and it doesn't appear to be available yet.
    I imagine that this driver was made available for the beta testers out there needing it and also for the rest of us to be able to check ahead if we can still compile.
    I do wish they would plainly say as much on that download page (or in the readme). It would have saved some trouble chasing down why this doesn't run.

  • Does Oracle 8.1.5 Run On Tru64 Unix 5.1

    Does Oracle 8.1.7 Run On Tru64 Unix 5.1
    We plan to upgrade the OS and Oracle in two steps.
    1. First weekend - upgrade the operating system from Tru64 4.0d to Tru64 5.1.
    2. Second weekend - upgrade Oracle from 8.1.5 to 8.1.7
    Questions:
    1. Will Oracle 8.1.5 run successfully on Tru64 5.1 during the one-week transition period?
    2. Does it make any difference if we upgrade the OS to Tru64 5.1a instead of 5.1?

  • Run a java class in Oracle db to connect to Sybase

    Hi All, I'm looking for a way to connect to Sybase database at no-license-cost (meaning Oracle Gateway or similar 3rd party products), first coming idea was JDBC, I know I can run a java class in Oracle, the simple idea is to write a java class which connects to Sybase via JDBC thin driver and return the resultset of given query in a java class, the resultset will be presented in Oracle Apex framework.  Does anyone know if this can be done or not, and how?  Any howto articles are welcomed.
    Henry

    Henry:
    To connect to Sysbase or MsSQL Server you could use jTDS open source driver.
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/jtds/
    upload above driver (jar file) using loadjava, and grants the port connection using dbms_java.grant_permission procedure.
    Because jTDS is pure java driver (mode 4) is possible to use directly inside the RDBMS.
    Best regards, Marcelo.
    PD: Latest jtds driver is compiled against 1.6 sources, but oldest version will work with 1.5 for 11g.

    Hi Sreeram,
    The reasons for this issue can be numerous and most of them will be present in the default trace in
    /usr/sap/<SID>/JC<instance-nr>/j2ee/cluster/server<0..N>/log
    It would be best to report an OSS message and let the support find the problem for you.
    Best Regards: Iavor

  • Get report file name in oracle report builder at run time

    Dear All,

    i need this very important...
    Regards,
    Yousef
    Edited by: Yousef_m on Jun 2, 2012 5:18 AM

    Hello,
    Did you try the builtin SRW.GET_REPORT_NAME built-in function ?
    Example
    function AfterPForm return boolean is
    my_var varchar2(80);
    BEGIN
    SRW.GET_REPORT_NAME(my_var);
    SRW.MESSAGE(0,'Report Filename = '||my_var);
    RETURN (TRUE);
    END;
    Regards

  • Java.lang.NullPointerException at oracle.jbo.server.QueryCollection.findByKey(QueryCollection.java:5110)

    We have deployed our ADF application in production. We developed using JDeveloper Version 11.1.2.1.0. In a page fragment, there is a inputComboboxListOfValues which is binded to a list of values binding. This list of values binding is mapped to an attribute of a view object which has a lov from a view accessor (through view link).
    In this inputComboboxListOfValues component, we get this error sometimes in production and we are neither able to re-produce the error nor able to find the reason for the error.

    Timo,
    I noticed that in the application module, these are the settings for passsivation:
    jbo.dofailover=false
    jbo.passivationstore=null
    Do you recommend to change to above settings to
    jbo.dofailover=true
    jbo.passivationstore=file
    We are not using cluster for production environment...
    Please suggest..

  • Why are most of the links on Oracle's site that relate to Java broken?

    Why are most of the links on Oracle's site that relate to Java broken? For example, try searching for SocketChannel and then clicking on any of the returned links, in particular click on www.oracle.com/technetwork/servers-storage/ts-4222-159193.pdf.
    This is the second time I have tried to search for Java information and both times found broken links.
    Does anyone know where I can find more information on using a SocketChannel?

    Why are most of the links on Oracle's site that relate to Java broken?Because Oracle doesn't really care about Java and is hoping that it'll die off.Pretty sure Oracle cares about Java. They have a huge investment in it and would need to replace or discontinue a number of products that they paid quite a bit of money for.
    On the other hand in might just be that they don't much about providing support that doesn't lead to revenue. Thus support contracts have a support channel while public links get little support.

    I changed the password of SAPJSF_EPP and it has SAP_ALL assigned to it.
    I tried to change the password in config tool for the following parameter
    ume.r3.connection.master.passwd
    Then i restarted the cluster ..but again got the error showed in trace file above
    I guess i have changed it in a right way
    I clicked on the parameter and typed the new password at the bottom. Then i clicked on set. It prompted me retype the value
    and i did it and clicked on save. Is it right??
    Actually i have been assigned the additional responsibility of EP. I m into Basis otherwise. So please bear with me.
    tell me how can i solve this??
    Thanks
