Oracle Lite Correct Application?

Hi,
I'm looking into Oracle Lite at the moment as a possible solution to automating and speeding up our data synchronisation from one main database to various sites across the country. The remote devices are 90% laptops (running XP) and the other 10% are Windows 2003 or XP based servers.
Currently we export from a main database and import individually and manually to the other sites. This is very slow process and costly and we would like to speed it up.
From what I can gather Oracle Lite looks like a viable solution. The asynchronous nature is satisfied as well as avoiding full exports and imports but rather updating ammendments and new data.
Do you think Oracle Lite best serves my purposes or should I look into other methods such as SQL Loader or something?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

Oracle Lite is great for replication. So if it replication you are looking for, this is the application you need. Just keep in mind some features such as PL/SQL PROCEDURES,TRIGGERS, and FUNCTIONS are not supported. You can use Java Stored Procedures though.

    I got my mobile server working and I have also installed client on PPC device. Now how can I use the example application that come with Oracle lite on the PPC device so I can play with syncing data?

    On the mobile device try using the username JUNIUS/JUNIUS in msync. Once it's done syncing the update application should startup and let you install the transport demo application.

  • New Platform in Oracle Lite - Custom Installation

    Hi all,
    I read from the Oracle Lite documentation that the Oracle Lite setup can be customized. For trial I was able to modify the ppc60.inf and push my custom cab file, create a custom directory, install a cab file.
    I would actually want to perform the same steps for my custom setup apart from using the same setup as I donot want to disturb that provided by Oracle Lite. I see from the documentation "5.2.2 Installing Standard SDK WinCE 5.0 CAB Files for Your Mobile Client" this can be achieved. I followed the steps in these.
    I created an ini file and registered it with the server repository running the dmloader. I have placed my cab files and the inf file in the appropriate mobile server installation folders. This is my ini file content.
    [PLATFORM]]
    Oracle MCP;US
    [PLATFORM.Oracle MCP;US]
    TYPE=WINCE_ARMV4I_US_OLITE_MCP
    INF=olite_mcp.inf
    BOOTSTRAP=DeviceInfo
    ATTRIBUTES=update=true&enabled=true&app_upgrade=true&dmc=auto
    I got the new platform in the setup screen as Oracle MCP in the US section. But when I click it in a Win32 machine I get an error as "Access Denied: Oracle MCP;US Resource no found: WINCE_ARMV4I_US_OLITE_MCP" and on a WinCE machine the page navigates to an error page showing all the platforms available. I am not sure of the folders to be created for placing the setup.exe are correct, how do we get the setup.exe for the for the custom installation and if there are any other extra steps to be done.
    If anyone has come across this, could you please help me out ? Thanks in advance

  • Oracle lite application not showing blob images in BI reports

    Hi,
    We have an application running in Oracle lite, we integrated the BI publisher reports (PDF reports are generated Using Data template and RTF file with Java API for BI publisher) with the application. Its been working fine for a long time.
    Now we are showing some images on the pdf report, the images are stored in the Oracle lite database as blobs. My application fails when translating the Data template to xml data. I am not getting any exception other than out of memory error after a while.
    anybody had the same problem? Let me know if you need more information on this problem.
    Any help will be great!!

    Hi Carsten
    That was exactly* I was looking for. Maybe I should Google more in German ;-)
    The main problem was that I defined my image outside the first repeating group (that doesn't repeat, it's always just one object) - the first group is followed by 7 more.
    Just like the "Name" (that's positioned outside the group in the document header), I positioned the image above the table representing the group.
    Doing that, the "Name" is filled correctly, the Image only when the Output Format is Excel or HTML - not Word or PDF ... makes no sense but that's tje way it is.
    After moving the image inside the group....it works great!
    (One more thing...the image size is fixed to the image you use as "dummy". Is there any way to make that more flexible, because now some scaling happens...)???
    @Trent: That was the way we initially did it, but when the size of the row exceeds 32K...you know what happens.. And even with a small image the 32K limit is hit easily
    The way I use it now (very similar to Carsten's description) there is no limit....
    Thank you all!

  • Running a BC4J JSP application for Oracle Lite on OC4J

    Hi,
    My BC4J JSP application is working with Oracle and Oracle Lite on Apache (Oracle 8i Personal Edition) and on Tomcat 3.2. The same BC4J's could be used from the BC4J Tester as well.
    But if I run the application on OC4J (standalone and embedded in JDeveloper 9i RC1 and RC2) using Oracle Lite, a Fatal Internal Error (or with JDK1.2 a NullPointerException) occurs.
    I think I found the reason:
    1. the Java Trigger in Oracle Lite and
    2. the Timestamp used in Oracle Lite instead of Date.
    My problem is, that I can't find any information about configuration of OC4J so that it could work with Oracle Lite as well as Apache and Tomcat.
    Claudia

    The tell tale sign that the application is communicating with the running cache server is the membership information that is logged. In your previous running of the example you would have "members=1" embedded in the logging. From the sounds of what you are doing, you'd expect this to be different as the application would be joining a running instance. Check out section 1.3 of this doc on the system you are using.

  • Application Development using Jdeveloper using Oracle Lite

    Hi all,
    I need to develop an application that works with the oracle database lite technology.
    Ritght now I am working on some 10 tables .The Scenario is like the application developed is deployed on the middle tier and the user downloads it and goes offline. And he uses the application offline with the same tables present (that are used in developing the application) in another database present on the user machine . I have gone through the ADF BC tutorials but I couldn’t figure out whether the business components (view objects, entity objects) that are created by using tables (connecting to a particular schema in the database) can work if the schema changes(coz I tried doing that and faced errors that connection to database couldn’t be established ). I think this might be because the schema has changed.
    Does this Business components created work if the database schema changes?
    Is it possible to develop an application using java swing that works on the oracle database lite? I need a standalone Windows 32 application to be developed.
    Thanks in advance

    Let's assume you have two database schema USER1 and USER2
    And let's assume that USER2 grants the appropriate privileges so that USER1 can see his tables.
    If you connect as USER1 in JDeveloper and create an entity object based on a table USER2.SOMETABLE, then the SomeTable entity object will remember the USER2 schema name as part of the table name.
    If instead if USER1 creates an entity object against a table in his own USER1 schema, then the entity object will only record the "TABLENAME" in the entity metadata, without a schema qualifier. In this case, if you connect to a different schema at runtime which still has the expected TABLENAME table in it, then it will work fine.
    Generally you would want to use an entity based on a synonym instead of an entity based directly on a SCHEMANAME.TABLENAME so that it wouldn't matter if the schema changed.
    Yes, you can build Swing, JSF, or JSP applications against Oracle Lite using ADF BC.

  • Forms 6i based application compatibility with Oracle Lite 10g

    My client is currently using an Oracle Forms 6i based application (together with a Jinitiator)
    in an application deployed to 50 countries using Oracle Lite 9i as the Mobile Application Server and Oracle 8i as the database.
    We are considering an update to Oracle 10g database and 10g Rel 3 mobile application server.
    Can anyone advise on the impact of such an application on the Forms 6i application and if there is a recommended process for the upgrade of the forms application?

    do you mean the OAS 10g Rel. 3 ? That application server has no forms-component. Only the Rel.2
    Your Forms 6i is certified against 10g databases with patch 17 and 18. Download them from the metalink.oracle.com

  • PL/SQL Web Application managing Oracle Lite parameters

    After making my application for mobile devices using c# and Oracle Lite I am starting now to make the back office for the system's administration.
    For that I am using PL/SQL. Oracle Lite has an API in Java and C# through which I can manage user, publications and so on... What is the best way of doing this managing operations with PL/SQL? Is there procedures and functions I can use? Do I have to pass some weeks to understand all the tables used by Oracle Lite to manipulate them?
    Thanks for the support!

    As far as I know, there is only Java API for managing the application. You might need to look into making some java web services to handle this.

    The following procedure describes the steps required to deploy the DbAdapter.rar file using admin_client.jar:
    1. Copy the following libraries from server.xml in an OC4J_SOA container to a server.xml file for a new
    container:
    oracle.bpel.common
    apache.junit
    oracle.db.lite
    apache.commons
    apache.jdom
    apache.slide
    For example, for oracle.bpel.common, copy the following extract from one server.xml to another and
    do the same for all other libraries:
    <shared-library name="oracle.bpel.common" version="10.1.3">
    <code-source path="D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_5/bpel/system/classes"/>

    3. From the configtools.log file find the opmn port number, for example:
    deployer:oc4j:opmn://dimak.au.oracle.com:6012/home
    dimak.au.oracle.com - is the machine name and
    6012 - port number

    set PATH=$ORACLE_HOME\jdk\bin;%PATH%
    set classpath=.
    where in the classpath there is only one entry - the dot, which stands for the current directory.
    5. change directory to the following:
    $ORACLE_HOME\j2ee\home

    java -jar admin_client.jar deployer:oc4j:opmn://dimak.au.oracle.com:6012/test oc4jadmin
    manager1 -deploy -file $ORACLE_HOME\integration\esb\lib\DBAdapter.rar -deploymentName
    DbAdapter2 -parent default
    where
    * dimak.au.oracle.com should be substituted with your machine name
    * 6012 should be substituted with your port which you found in step 3
    * test is the name of the container you want to deploy the adapter to
    * manager1 should be substituted with your oc4jadmin password
    * $ORACLE_HOME\integration\esb\lib\DBAdapter.rar is the location of the DBAdapter.rar file
    * deploymentName DbAdapter2 - should be different from DbAdapter, as that name is already used in the OC4J_SOA container.

  • Additional query... on Oracle Lite

    Dear All,
    I have a few additional queries on the question I posted before
    ADditional queries :
    ==================
    1) What software does lie on the Windows CE platform and how do we install it, because if we install Oracle lite for handheld devices it installs it on the PC?
    2) How can the replication be done with the Polite.odb on windows CE device in the simplest possible way?
    3) If I want to connect to this polite.odb how can i do that from my PC?
    Previous question :
    ==================
    I am working on a prototype between Oracle Lite and Oralce 8i database. I have managed to install oracle lite on PC and also manage the replication between the Oracle database and Oracle Lite database. I can also connect to the Oracle Lite database (It is a ODB file) through SQL plus. But I am having a few problems :
    1) While connecting to Oracle Lite database I get a message
    "Server not available or version too low for this feature" without any oracle error number. The versions are as follows : Oracle Open Client Adapter for ODBC 6.0.5.3.0
    Oracle Lite ORDBMS 4.0.0.2.0
    Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.5.0.0 - Production
    With the Partitioning and Java options
    PL/SQL Release 8.1.5.0.0 - Production
    To connect to Oracle Lite database, your give the userid/password@odbc:<<oracle lite dbname>>
    What can be the possible reasons?
    2) I tried to create a database link between the Oracle Lite database and Oracle database and when I try to fire a select on a table in Oracle Lite database I get an error
    "ORA-06401: NETCMN: invalid driver designator"
    so how dow we create a database link between these 2 databases?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Aman,
    I was going through Oracle® Database Concepts 11g Release 2, Chapter 12 Logical Storage Structures (link below):
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25789/logical.htm#i19599
    *Automatic Segment Space Management*
    The ASSM method uses bitmaps to manage space. Bitmaps provide the following advantages:
    •Simplified administration
    ASSM avoids the need to manually determine correct settings for many storage parameters. Only one crucial SQL parameter controls space allocation: PCTFREE. This parameter specifies the percentage of space to be reserved in a block for future updates (see "Percentage of Free Space in Data Blocks").
    •Increased concurrency
    Multiple transactions can search separate lists of free data blocks, thereby reducing contention and waits. For many standard workloads, application performance with ASSM is better than the performance of a well-tuned application that uses MSSM.
    •Dynamic affinity of space to instances in an Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC) environment
    ASSM is more efficient and is the default for permanent, locally managed tablespaces.Regards,
    Ankit Rathi

  • Help: Oracle lite 10.3.0.1.0 and symbian 9 s60

    Greetings,
    I installed the oracle litle server, I have a client installed windows 32, and synchronizes works, the problem is when I want to install a client for symbian,
    first how to enable the client for Oracle Lite Symbian OS v7 and OS v7/UIQ2.1 in mobile server, to make install from the client gives me an internal error (http://serverlite:8080/webtogo/admin/console/setup/),
    download the patch from the metalink and downloads from oracle downloads area (the same, Oracle Database Lite 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.8) Mobile Client for Symbian 9 ), I installed olite_core.sis Successfully
    and there is where I do not run in phone nokiea E61, and install msync other utilities on the phone nokia E61, but is not doing as synchronization
    the question is:
    -exist patch for oracle lite 10.3.0.1.0 and symbian 9 s60
    -how to enable client for symbian 9 s60 in oracle lite server 10.3.0.1.0
    -how to sync from client nokia E61i, with msync and others tool in the oracle lite server
    -where install olite_epoc.zip (in the phone or the IDE developer and SDK nokia)
    my plattform:
    server: Windows XP and Oracle lite 10.3.0.1.0 Server
    Client1: windows xp client windows 32
    Clientn: Phone Nokia E61i with symbian 9 s60
    Roy Ayala Galvis
    java developer - mobile developer

    Hi Roy,
    For symbian 9 you have downloaded the correct binaries,there is no other patch for symbian.You should be able to sync symbian client database with 10.3.0.1 server.
    Make sure that server is in the public network otherwise GPRS based synchronize does not work.
    Use the example application user as s11u1 to get the syn examples working with mobile server.
    Synchronization from E61i will also work , but dialogues messages in the UI will not displayed properly
    Olite_epoc.zip should be installed in IDE/SDK, not in the phone .
    Please read the documents for symbian in the meta-link.

  • Oracle lite webtogo BC4J

    hi....
    i have installed oracle lite webtogo BC4J.I have developed an application using jdeveloper JSF ADF BC techology and deployed it on to the mobile server.Now when i use mobile client web server and open this application.Can i use it in disconnected mode.i.e can i use the application in offline mode????

    Marcel,
    You are correct, Webtogo does not support JSF. JSP/Servlets/Struts/Tiles are the only things supported. Also correct that it is not a J2EE container, but why would you require enterprise components in a disconnected mode?
    I read over the ADF/BC4J tutorial and it doesn't mention any additional install that would have to happen. I would think that the JARs would be downloaded to the client accordingly.
    For your JDBC connection you can use either the Webtogo driver or the Polite driver. Your application, once deployed should be using the Webtogo driver.
    // Using the webtogo driver
    public Connection getConnection()
       Class.forName("oracle.lite.web.WTGJdbcDriver");
       conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:webtogo");
       return conn;
    // Using the polite driver
    public Connection getConnection()
       Class.forName("oracle.lite.poljdbc.POLJDBCDriver");
       conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:polite:USERID_dbdsn");
       return conn;
    }

  • Oracle Lite DBMS

    Hi,
    I am new to Oracle Lite implementation and in the process of understanding the planned architecture which will have central 10g standard and oracle lite on multiple locations.
    At this stage, i need oracle lite database to create database objects and provide database connectivity to java developers. So i planned to install Mobile development Kit.
    Have I correctly noticed that mobile development kit is not available on linux ? what is the equivalent product available for linux ? Does installing Mobile Server make sense?
    Appreciate links to useful articles/info to learn more on oracle lite implementations.
    TIA,
    Rakesh

    Hi,
    Support for Linux is not as strong as for Windows. A version (5.0.2.0.0) of Oracle 9i Litefor Linux is available at the following location:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/lite/index.html
    The tar file should contain everything that you need to develop and run an Oracle 9i Lite application. You will have to get support contract from Oracle to get updates to the product.

  • Connection to Oracle Lite 8i

    I am trying to make a connection from JDeveloper 2.0 to Oracle

    Laura,
    Can you tell me than what's the use of choosing an Oracle Lite
    driver in the Connection wizzard? The problem discribed below is
    not limited to applets: in applications I can't use my lite-
    connection either.
    And do you know of a way to use a thin driver to connect to an
    Oracle Lite database?
    Thanks a lot for the help so far,

    : Marko,
    : Yes, you can only use the JDBC thin driver when creating an

    is

    have
    : the OCIJDBC8.dll in their Oracle_Home, and that Oracle_Home be
