Oracle Performace Issue

Hi,
I used my notebook with 8GB of memory to upload data into Oracle 11g and then took dump of it and imported onto the prod server which is 32GB memory and 2 Quad Processors.... Now when I run select * from table_name on my laptop which got about 500,000 records it takes 6 seconds but on prod server it takes about 284 seconds...
The only difference between the installation is that my laptop is running OLTP installation and Prod is running on DW configuration... What I dont understand why this is taking so long on prod server and so fast on my laptop...
Can one can point me to right direction?
Thank you in advance..
Regards,
NK

My prod server is in data center and Iam accessing it through the point to point DSL which is 2MB link, and the local is on my notebook.... if the execution time is same then the only thing which i can think of is uploading the data is talking 4 mins or so. Because the link is only 2MB and the time getting the results is spent on sending the data to my computer.
I use Golder6 for querying as its very light weight tool and is quite fast as compared to toad.
Show parameter optimizer on my prod server shows following:
SQL> show parameter optimizer;
NAME                    TYPE     VALUE
optimizer_capture_sql_plan_baselines boolean     FALSE
optimizer_dynamic_sampling     integer     2
optimizer_features_enable     string     11.2.0.1
optimizer_index_caching      integer     0
optimizer_index_cost_adj     integer     100
optimizer_mode               string     ALL_ROWS
optimizer_secure_view_merging     boolean     TRUE
optimizer_use_invisible_indexes boolean     FALSE
optimizer_use_pending_statistics boolean     FALSE
optimizer_use_sql_plan_baselines boolean     TRUE
SQL>
I will past the same from my notebook as I get back home...
The table structure is same on both the machine and have an ID column indexed. I am the only user connecting to the prod server as its a brand new machine with 2 Quad cores (2.4) with 32 GB system memory and Oracle is allowed to use about 24GB of it. The Automatic Memory Management is enabled on the prod server.

    Best regards,

    Are you sure that it is not an application constraint ? i.e. the application can't handle so much data per second ? (application locks, threads )
    Have you tried to write a simple test program, which inserts predefined data (which your application inserts) the same data, only changing keys ?
    Then comparing the values from the 1st and the 2nd configuration ?
    Did you check the way your application is communicating with oracle ? If it is TCP/ip (even on the local machine) then this is your main problem.
    And one more thing, do you know if your application is able to run the load (inserts) of data on different threads (i.e. in parallel), because if is not, you won't be able to push the speed higher because your constraint is the speed of a single CPU. Consider running several process, which loads the data.
    We had the same problem ot AIX machines with 4 cpus. Monitoring the machine, we found that only 25% (1 cpu) where in use. We had to run 4 processes to push the speed up. Check your system's overal load while running the 'load' (inserts).
    log_checkpoint_interval = 10000
    Check if this value is appropriate. Maybe you should set it to 0 (infinite). This will disable checkpoints on a 'number of undo record' basis. Checpoints will occure only on log switch.
    How much redo files per redo groups do you have ? What is their size ? Are they on different disks ? How much redo data is generated by a single 'record' inserted ?
    Hope i helped at least a little.

    I am not sure of OJDBC jar file version .we have either OJDBC5 or OJDBC6 jar deployed in SAP MII.
    The oracle database version that we are connecting in the data server is Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit
    My questions  are
    After the server process shutdown and recovered , While  all other connectors  working fine why oracle connectors have problems?
    Is it due to oracle driver issue? or any other issue related to Netweaver.
    Please help.

    for item #1...If you add the line "gal_enableldapsearch = FALSE" to the "[ENG]" section of the calendar server configuration file, it will only put calendar users in the GAL and not all Internet Directory users.

  • Oracle vulnerability issue and JavaScript.

    I started a discussion in the Muse forum, and also want to ask the question here, regarding the disabling of JavaScript in browsers.  That thread is: forums.adobe.com/thread/1140485.  My basic question is this:  is there a work around, like adding code to HTML editor, as a result of issues associated with disabling of JavaScript in browser.  For example, widget and google maps in website are broke when disabling of JavaSript in browser.  This is an issue resulting from the Oracle vulnerability issue a few weeks back, where the Department of Homeland Security is recommending the disabling of js in browsers to prevent the rootkit infection on machines.  Want is the answer to this issue.  I don't mind learning code, if needed, to put in HTML editor.  I just need to know what i need to do or learn.  Not everybody is going to disable Java or remove it from their machines, but many folks are and have--that is those aware of the issue.  Or is the whole issue just a big bogeyman?

    Yes, thank you kenneth_rapp.  Note another response in Muse forum and my reply to basically this same question, which produced the same answer.  You'll note, where my confusion began.  See that discussion in muse forum http://forums.adobe.com/message/5017525#5017525http://  provided by member:  topelovely.  Again, thanks for the response.  It caused me to further read and understand the differences.

  • Performace issue in Oracle 10.1.0.4

    Hi,
    I am having the database with version 10.1.0.4 on solaris environment, I am having the strange problem with open cursors, set the open_cursors paremeter has 1000, but in the snapshot cursors/session showing 1200 and the count is gradually increasing and sometimes found upto 15000. Secondly, parse 2 execute ratio is ~86%.
    I am not getting any error related to open_cursors but users are reporting the very slow response of the performance. Application upload bulk logs in the database and use bind variables.
    RAM -> 8G
    The value of below parameters:
    open_cursors=1000
    session_cached_cursor=150
    cursor_sharing=similar
    SGA=3.5GB
    Please help to find out the rootcause of the issue and suggestion to resolve this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Subash

    this is the query was running most frequently :

    UPDATE MGMT_JOB_EXECUTION SET STEP_STATUS=:B2 WHERE STEP_ID=:B1Why are you so concerned about background queries? Do you really think these queries uses high resource and have high elapsed time then you custom queries? The god way to diagnose a performance problem is to identify most resource intensive/time consuming program/module/code rather then running after background queries. Yes sometimes background queries too run slowly in rear cases and then you need to run dbms_stats.gather_dictionary_stats or dbms_stats.gather_fixed_objects_stats (https://blogs.oracle.com/optimizer/entry/fixed_objects_statistics_and_why)

    Hi,
    As far as I can find on Google, I only see people solving a similar problem, by totally removing all Java installation and then install the latest Java 6 update.
    Have a look e.g. here: http://www.java-forums.org/awt-swing/34794-java-application-fails-launch-without-error.html
    It is not about installing oracle, but the person does have similar problems
    Success!!

  • Oracle 10g - issue with "DELETE from TABLE WHERE ID in (1,2,3)" (cfqueryparam used)

    Hello, everyone.
    I am having issues with running a DELETE statement on an Oracle 10g database.
    DELETE
    FROM tableA
    WHERE ID in (1,2,3)
    If there is only one ID for the IN clause, it works.  But if more than one ID is supplied, I get an "SQL command not properly ended" error message.  Here is the query as CF:
    DELETE
    FROM TRAINING
    WHERE userID = <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="CF_SQL_VARCHAR" value="#trim(form.userID)#">
         AND TRAINING_ID in <cfqueryparam value="#form.trainingIDs#" cfsqltype="CF_SQL_INTEGER" list="yes">
    Anyone work with Oracle that can help me with this?  I'm an experienced MS-SQL developer; Oracle is new to me.
    Thanks,
    ^_^

    Nevermind.. a co-worker just told me that I still have to use parenthesis around the values for the IN clause.

  • 64 bit oracle direver issue in SQLBindCol?

    I have an issue with SQLBindCol when I connect to oracle though 64 bit 11gr1 oracle odbc driver.
    SQLINTEGER nKey;
    SQLLEN nInd = 0;
    status = SQLBindCol(stmt, 1, SQL_C_SLONG, &nKey, 0, &nInd);
    status = SQLFetch(stmt);
    after call SQLFetch, I always get Run-Time Check Failure #2 - Stack around the variable 'nKey' was corrupted
    I also noticed the return value of nInd is 8, but it should be 4. If I change the SQLINTEGER nKey to __int64 nKey, the error go away.
    Why Oracle Odbc Driver required 8 byte for SQL_C_SLONG, and other odbc driver work fine(MSSQL, Sybase)? Is there a bug in Oracle odbc driver, or 64 bit oracle odbc dirver not follow the ODBC specification?
    Thanks

    You don't need reference on x64 version. You can add reference on x86 version. If you would like to run project from VS then you need x86 version Oracle Client because VS is x86 application.
    Both ODAC DLL (x86 and x64) has same signature. If you build project with "any cpu" option then right version ODP.NET is used at the runtime.

  • Oracle JInitiator issue with Firefox 3 and IE7 - not working!

    Hi,
    I'm accessing the oracle apps server through VPN using a Windows Vista system running Firefox 3 and IE 7. I'm able to log on and access the self service pages correctly. But I'm unable to access the form based pages. If I use the JInitiator 1.3.1.21, both browsers crash (though Firefox says missing plugin and mentions this version only). On installing higher versions of the plugin (28, 30), IE 7 keeps giving the message "installing components...oajinit.exe" and there is no more progress.
    Could anyone please let me know what could be the issue and how to resolve it.
    Thanks in advance!

    As I don't have access to metalink yet, can you tell me for my configuration what is certified and what browser I should use? I already mentioned that my OS is Vista and I have IE7. I realise that IE6 cannot run on Vista and now Firefox 3 cannot be used. So what JInitiator should I use for IE 7?The currently supported desktops for Release 11i include:
    - Win2K / WinXP + IE6 / Firefox 2.x
    - WinXP + IE7 / Firefox 2.x
    - Mac OS X v10.3.9 + Safari 1.3 and higher
    - Mac OS X v10.4.7 + Safari 2.0 and higher
    - Vista desktop clients running the native JRE plug-in on IE 7 ***
    *** Oracle JInitiator Not Certified for Vista Desktops: Oracle JInitiator 1.3 will not be certified for Vista desktops. Jinitiator 1.3 is based on JDK 1.3. JDK 1.3 is not compatible with Vista. No new updates to JInitiator are planned for Vista.
