Oracle procedures returning table type supported in JDBC

We have many procedures who return table type return. The JDBC callable statment does not support them.However there is no problem with Ref cursors . How to resolve?.

I’ve got datablock based on procedure that return table type. In the form I have to provide ‘filter and sort records’ functionality. Previously, using tables/views based datablocks, I’ve done that by using:

It doesn’t work with procedure that return table type. How I can do that?

I agree with Andreas, from the sample you have given us, I don't see any reason why you could not merge these queries into a single UNION/UNION ALL query. Also, I would add your summation query to your main query to eliminate this extra step. The result would look something like:

Stored procedure and function - return table type

Hello again :)
I have one simple question :) Maybe on this forum the question was asked, but I found only similar question and they didn't help me.
It's possible return in Stored Function (with StoredProcedureFunction) as result return TABLE type? Or return table type with output parametr with Stored Procedure? Or instead of the table return the db object, but it is similar problem:)
Now, I can using db types TABLES or DB OBJECTS as INPUT parameters with call stored functions or procedures, for example:

But I can not figure, how to return this table from output parameters of stored procedure or as a return value from stored function?
Example of exceptions:
The number of arguments provided to the query for execution does not match the number of arguments in the query definition. - return as output parameter
PLS-00382: expression is of wrong type - used as result from stored function
So, my question is: Is possible return this table type from stored procedure or function? And if YES, how can I set output argument for call?

Your question is: what is faster PL/SQL or PL/SQL? And the answer is: it is PL/SQL of course!
As a general rule, you use a function when you return exactly one result: a number or a string or (more complex) instance of an object type or REF CURSOR or PL/SQL collection.
You use a procedure when:
a) you just do the job and return no result
b) you return multiple results - you can use multiple IN/OUT or OUT parameters
Imagine you have to write a program unit that performs a partitioned table maintenance by adding a partition.
You can implement this unit:
a) if you want return a "status code" (0 on successful completion or non-zero in case of error) then you should use a function
b) if you want no "status code" (in case of error an exception is raised that is handled outside of the program unit) then you should use a procedure
c) if you want "status code", name of tablespace where a partition was created (assume you program is so complex that it can choose different tablespaces based on metadata and free space available) and free space in that tablespace after the creation of a new partition then you should use a procedure with 3 OUT parameters.
But these are good programming practices that can be applied to (almost) any 3rd generation programming language, not only PL/SQL.

Calling Stored Procedure with table type as In parameter from Java

Can anyone help me with the sample code to call a stored procedure having input parameter of Table type (consisting of multiple fields) from Java. This job is currently being done by a BPEL process.
We want to implement the same using Java.

To start using a blob you have to insert it into the database and then get it back. Sounds weird but that is how it is. Here is a very simple program to do this:

Issue with IN parameter of Oracle Procedure returning two RefCursors...

I'm having a nightmare with an Oracle procedure that takes one input parameter and returns two RefCursors as outputs. I recently got help in this forum getting a procedure to work that took no inputs but returned two refcursors and that's still working fine. So, for my current issue I have a procedure defined as follows:

When I run this code I get no errors, I just get told that each DataReader has no rows returned, which shouldn't be right.
Any help with this would be hugely appreciated.

Sorry folks, after staring at this over and over, eventually going to sleep and coming back to it with some fresh eyes I realised I was just being a complete idiot - I was feeding the procedure different data in the .NET app than I was when testing in Oracle SQL Developer. Low and behold once I gave it the right data it worked!

Oracle Procedure returning more number of records

Hi,
I have created an Oracle Procedure which is supposed to fetch a record as per the input parameter passed.
The core query in the procedure is as below -
SELECT DISTINCT col1 FROM my_tab WHERE col2 = 'Input parameter'
Few of the input parms (col2) has more number of records (col1) and so the procedure gives an error like -
'ORA-01422: exact fetch returns more than requested number of rows'
Could you please let me know how can I modify the procedure so that it would return more number of records as the case may be?

But we can't tell you how to fix it because we don't know what you want.
What's the purpose of the procedure?
Is it to "spell check" the name of an intermediary? If so, you'll need to figure out what to do when you have more then one person with the same name.
You can add AND ROWNUM = 1. Or perhaps you can trap the too_many_rows exception.
Your procedure doesn't return anything (no out variables). Is that correct?
Or is the purpose of the procedure to return the ID of the matching name?

Retriving data through stored procedure returning Table of object type

I am trying to retrieve the data returned as a table(secret_tab_type) of object type(secret_type). Now we can get the secret_tab_type table through
rset = (ResultSet) cstmt.getObject(1); but how to map the SQL object type to Java object type ??

Procedure with table type out parameter

I need to create a procedure which gives back a content of a table as an out parameter.
i have tried something like below code
it might not be correct since i am writing from home and cannot access any oracle db right now

Well you said you want the content of a table but your example says you just want a record. So for a record:

end;As damorgan said the dbms_output can't be used with the record type. Notice I used it for the ENAME value of the record.
If you really want the entire table then do it the way damorgan suggests. A pipeline function can give you the table but not as an OUT parameter.

This gives invalid column type exception.

Normally it requires driver specific code.
If it was me I would wrap it in another proc and use a cursor (or whatever it takes) to traverse the result so it returns a normal result set to java.

Retrieving PL/SQL Table Type returned by stored procedure using Java.

JDBC does not recognise types declared in PL/SQL. This is documented in the Dev Guide. [Find out more|http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/java.920/a96654/oraarr.htm#1057625].
The only work around would be to build a wrapper which calls your existing PL/SQL procedures and returns a SQL type instead. Obviously not knowing your precise scenario I have no idea how much work this entails for you. It may be worth building a code generator.

I'm stuck in the middle of this myself, and found that something useful to look at is the PLSQL procedure that the driver uses to determine whether the type is there. You can run the following test PLSQL block with your schema name and type name to check on the database side whether it will work:

If the procedure returns 0, then the JDBC code should have no trouble picking up the array type and handling your call. If the procedure returns a nonzero number, the JDBC code using the same schemaname and typename will probably fail. This at least allows you to try a number of different schema and type names with the application and driver layers eliminated. Unfortunately, I have no idea how get_type_shape works, and it doesn't seem to be documented in Oracle's 9i docs, so I can't shed any light on why some things work and others don't.

I tried executing using this script, but it failed. When I execute this oracle lost connection to data base.

I don't see anything wrong with the anonymous block, assuming ss_invoice_utilities is the correct package name. Perhaps a simplified test case would show up what's not working there.
As for printing the contents of an associative array, you'll have to write some code to loop through it and construct a string per row to output via dbms_output, assuming the text will fit within dbms_output's size restrictions in 9i. dbms_output is a debugging tool though - is that the requirement?
btw "pls_integer" is less to type than "binary_integer" ;)

We are using procedures with table type:

using explain plan we discover that it uses row engine.
Is there an alternative??

In SE11 you can create table type.
This table type is similar to tables, but not the same way as you create tables. You can create table type with either Line type ( Nothing but a structure), Built-in ABAP types or Reference type. Assume that we have created one table type TYTAB with line type LITYP.
So when you declare like this,
DATA: ITAB type TYTAB - Now ITAB acts as a internal table of type TYTAB.
DATA: LS_TYP TYPE LITYP - This LS_TYP now acts as a structure.
So, it is clear that linetype and structure are one and the same.

How to declare a table type while executing a Procdure??

I'm facing a problem that i'm not able to call a type as an input to a proc.
My proc has two inputs as table type and other normal inputs.
I'm using these table type to insert value into another table.
But when i try and execute the procedure in a DECLARE - BEGIN - END block, i'm not able to define the type properly.

Are you trying to create stored procedure with table type parameter? If so, you either needto declare table type in sql or in a PL/SQL package. For example:
