Oracle Reports setup in Portal

Hey
I just have a couple of questions about Oracle reports being run through Portal that I was looking for some help on. Here they are:
I am using the Reports Portlet Parameter Form (which includes the 'Parameters' and 'Schedule' tabs) build into Portal to run my oracle reports, but I was wondering if this is the recommend way to run my oracle reports in Poral or if there is something better?
A few users have asked me to remove/hide the 'schedule' tab on the parameter form, but I can't find a way to do that, do you know of a way?
And another thing I was asked is if we could create own parameter forms to run the reports, and I told them yes, but would that involve creating a new form for every report where the parameter list is different? I thought it would be, but I wanted to be sure first. And would these new manually created forms be easy to integrate into portal?
Thanks for your help.

hello,
submitting your report in the url using a key (yourKey) defined in the cgicmd.dat file would look like
http://<yourserver>:<yourport>/reports/rwservlet?yourKey

  • Oracle Report Error (string buffer too small) in Portal

    Hi,
I have registered an oracle report (.rdf) with portal which works fine outside in Reports Builder, but when I try to run it in Portal it keeps throwing this error:
SQL-6502: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
    ORA-06512: at "PORTAL.WWV_RW_USR", line 444
    ORA-06512: at "PORTAL.WWV_RW_USR", line 923
    ORA-06512: at line 1
Anyone know what needs to be done to fix this?
    Thanks

    Sean:
Thank you very much for wading through my post.
    >"if (NIerror = DAQmxCfgInputBuffer(h, numSamples*4))"
    >I would leave this line out. DAQmx should create an input buffer automatically
    >based on the number of channels and number of samples per channel.
Yeah- I put that in trying to fix the problem. The error message doesn't say *which* buffer is too small
    >If you just call the DAQmxReadDigitalLines() function with "numSampsPerChan" set to -1,
    >DAQmx will wait until all samples are acquired before performing the read.
I'm trying to avoid the wait. That's why I'm trying to figure out how many samples are ready.
I suppose I can try numSampsPerChan=-1, set a short timeout and check for the timeout error.
    >If this does not help, please send me a small section of code that reproduces that behavior,
    >and I will try running it on my machine.
I will try modifying one of the examples to do what I'm trying to do.
    Again, Thank you!

  • Registering Report Writer in Portal 10g

Portal 10g AS software is fairly new and not a lot of books are available for it.
I am looking for a guide or proper steps to registering the Oracle Report Server with Portal 10g.
I have looked at this doc: http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/html/B14048_01/pbr_portal.htm#i1007990
and the value for "Oracle Reports Web Gateway URL for RDF reports" provided in the doc does not seem to work. Thanks for assistance.

  • Can I use Oracle Report Server to print from APEX? How?

Hello, we have Oracle Application server, Oracle Report server and now we just installed APEX and doing a pilot project. Since we don't have BI Publisher, how can we use our Oracle Report server to print from apex report? Can it be done and if yes where can I get some detail info that I can share with our DBA?
I have in past asked questions about the printing issues but I have been refered to http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/configure_printing.html#01 section 5 which talks about another installation.
Thanks so very much for any info.
    -iahmadi

You can use FOP, but the formatting of the xsl (Xml Style Sheets) takes a little work. If you have the Oracle Reports server up and access to the development product, why not go that route?
You want the filtering and sorting and searching, yes, but then you also want to print them out.. Then you would probably be best looking at replacing the Oracle Reports setup with BI Publisher. You can convert Most your reports over to bi publisher layouts easily.. (I have heard of some reports that do require recreating in Bi Publisher from Oracle Reports..)
Then you can have your Apex Reports and call Bi Publisher from APEX and everyone wins..
Is your Oracle Reports stuff used by non-APEX applications, that could be modified to use Bi Publisher?

  • Oracle Reports printer setup

    Hi Guys.
I am an Oracle Applications DBA and I know how to setup printing in Oracle Applications.
However, our client has got one installation of Oracle Application Server 10g and has deployed Oracle Forms and Reports Services.
They have configured printing for Oracle Reports for their setup, which I am not aware of how they did or how it is done in Oracle Forms and Reports.
The problems at hand are -
Problem number 1 - Over here a line printer i.e. 132 column one has been attached to the 10g Application Server from the USb port. The Application server is on Windows 2003 server machine. When we fire reports we can see in print queue request being fired but no putput is coming. If we open Reports builder on a developer machine and from there we fire we do get print out but this time developers machine Print dialoag comes. On developer machine we have mapped to same printer which is attached to the 10g AS machine
Problem number 2 - As mentioned earlier its a 132 column printer so what is the paper size to be picked. From articles it is Letter paper size or US Std Fanfold paper size.
Problem Number 3 - Suppose we try Arabic report since its arabic in the report designer we change direction to Right To Left, if we fire this report some columns almost 20 characters are cut -off. If we fire same report with default direction set in designer, whole data comes
Problem number 4 - If we give output to Excel or PDF i.e. Desformat Spreadsheet or PDF, the arabic data all come out rubbish junk.
Apart from getting help on the above mentioned issues, I would request you guys to help me in finding out how to setup the printing for standalone application server forms and reports.
    Thanks,
    Muneer.

  • List of Oracle Reports run through Oracle Portal.

    Hi,
It's possible that I am posting my message to a wrong Forum. If that's so, please let me know (and the correct forum too).
I have several Oracle Reports that are run through Oracle Portal (when user clicks a link for a report). I want to get a list of all such Oracle Reports in one go as I need to modify all of them. At the moment, to get the actual report name that I need to modify I am following the steps below.
When I am at 'Oracle Reports Security' page (in the Portal) where there is a section 'Reports Definition File Access',
    1. I click list icon without entering any value in the box. It shows me a list of all report definitions.
    2. After selecting a report definition, and clicking Edit, it shows me 'Manage Component' page. There are several links available. One of them is 'Edit'.
    3. I click 'Edit' and it shows me the actual 'Oracle Reports File Name'. This is the file I need to work on.
But instead of following the above steps for each of the several reports I need to modify, is there any way, say by running a SQL query, to find out the actual Oracle Reports file names?
The 'Manage Component' page shows 'Run Link' and links for 'PL/SQL source'. I tried to search for the schema name and package name in the database (by connecting as SYS user). However, I found neither the Schema not the Package.
Hope my question is clear. In brief, I want to get a list of Oracle Reports file names that are run through Oracle Portal.
Any questions, please let me know.
    Thanks and regards,
    Manoj.

    Jim,
Did you ever try to add Reports portlet as an item, so that user can click on each item to customize/schedule the report? You can have 50 of them, if that is what you really need.
Any reason why you want to create custom user interface, instead of using this vehicle that Portal provided by default?
You mentioned "The report Portlet ... does not allow customization." Actually, it does. You can do it by clicking on the Customize link of the Reports portlet.
    Hope this helps,
    -Jeff

    Thanks for your help.

You will have to Register your .rdf in Oracle Portal. The following document gives details.

  • Oracle report 10g publsinng on web and Oracle Portal

I am converting a report that was using oracle OAS9i, we pass to URL(rdf file) userid/password and worked fine. We were not using Portal, even though it is installed by OAS. Now seems we have to use Oracle Portal to publish the same report. Is that right? If not how will I use report servlet to call a rdf file I assume I still need to send oracle user id/password as that is needed to run report(knowing this from old Oracle report 6.0). We really do not want to autheticate any user all users behind use the same Oracle account to print reports. Any hint?
Another thing I find that now reports are closely linked to Portal and looking at web publishing document it seems one needs to view them thru Portal. Please help me understand this why I can not just see the report as once they are processed they produce pdf that any borwser can show.

    Any one??

  • PORTAL INTEGRATION WITH ORACLE REPORTS STILL REQUIRING LOGIN

I'm trying to integrate Portal and Reports. It works properly in a WinNT environment, bypassing the Oracle reports logon screen, due to the previous Oracle Portal logon. However, when working on Solaris, Oracle reports continues to require logon.

Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports on machine 3

  • Portal & Oracle Reports Integration

I have a customer that is considering integrating both Portal and Reports.
Dependent on the user that is requesting the report, the customer would like
to limit the amount of information returned.
I am considering suggesting Virtual Private Database (VPD) as a solution
at the DB end. However, the customer anticipates that dozens of users will
be connecting to the Portal as different users but Oracle Reports will be connecting
to the DB as a single user.
I would like to relate to them how they could still take advantage of VPD. How will
the customer pass the user's identity along? Any ideas and/or suggestions is
    appreaciated.

    Julie,
Here is the workaround. You can't have any PORTAL components in that same portal application. You can have LOVs, but no Portal Forms or Portal Reports. Just register all of your RDFs in their own application.
