The first error is because you don't have any spatial metadata. You need to insert into user_sdo_geom_metadata first. See the documentation for examples of how to do this.
The canned example you showed failed because you tried to index col01 rather than col02.

"Running Oracle Spatial Web Services" tutorial error
Hi,
I am currently working on setting up the WFS service with OC4J. I completed the initial tutorial to set it up and everything went well. I am now trying to run the WFS demos from WSCLIENT and using this tutorial: http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/11gr1_db/datamgmt/spatialws/spatialws.htm.
I just focused on the WFS Relational features and did the following:
Ran @wfsrelmd.sql and users/tables/grants were all successful.
Ran compileAndRunClient.bat runwfsct and the feature was created successfully.
Ran compileAndRunClient.bat runwfsrel and received the following error in the OC4J server shell:

I have no idea where this error is coming from and would really appreciate any help if any of these errors indicate a problem someone may know of.
Thanks for your help!I never did solve the problem. I decided to try out GeoServer for WFS and am very impressed. It was much easier to install and pretty feature-filled as well with a lot of documentation. I would definitely suggest checking it out to see if it will fit your needs.

Import Bently DGN Files into a oracle spatial 8.1.7-- ERRORS
Hy
I work with Oracle spatial 8.1.7, MapX, VB6 and Win2k.
My Problem: I get a DGN File. When I translate this file into a MapInfo File(s), it works fine.
Now I must have this data in a oracle spatial. On this part the problems start.
I can only inport the geometry and no charakters strings into the DB.
The Textlayers on the mapinfo file are converted th polygons (from DGN to MapInfo TAB).
If I move these file to the oracle, the text Layers are empty. If I look into the MapInfo Layer, which could have the text, the visible table (on MapInfo) is empy.
It is posible to transform the DGN to a other way (with FME). Then I have a smaler number of MapInfo files with text informations in the table(MapInfotable).
Because it is not posible to load this file into the oracle.
I get the errormessage, that the first row is Zero.....
What can I do???
Is the DGN FIle corrupt??? Have I a'n error on my Oracle???
Please help me

Can not deploy Oracle Spatial Routing Engine on Oracle Weblogic
I posted my question with Oracle Support, however they directed me to the oracle forums. I am hoping this problem can be resolved here. In any event I am getting the following stack trace (shown below). I am using Spatial Version 11.2.0.1.0, Map Viewer 11.1.1.5.1, and WebLogic 10.3.5.0, and data-set provided by Pro Oracle Spatial for Oracle Database 11g - Apress boos. I have successful in deploying Map Viewer, Geocoder Server, but not the Routing Server.
Below is the stack trace:

Oracle spatial 11g - 3D-Geometry and KML-Export
Hi,
I'm currently working with an Oracle Spatial 11g - database and there with 2d- and 3d-geometries. With this Version you can extrude 2d's to 3d's and calculate their volumes. This works fine.
The problem is to save the extruded areas as 3d-geometries in a specific table. Enclosed you will find the SQL-Code of the current workflow:
*1. Create tables for the 2d- and 3d-geometries (incl. metadata and spatial index)*
-- table for 3d-geometry
CREATE
TABLE ta_geb(
geom MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY
,area NUMBER(12,3)
-- metadata 2D
INSERT INTO USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA (TABLE_NAME, COLUMN_NAME, DIMINFO, SRID)
VALUES
'ta_geb',
'geom',
MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ARRAY
(MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('X',4439900.00, 4440020.00, 0.005),
MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('Y', 5664050.00, 5664130.00, 0.005)
31468
-- spatial index 2D
CREATE
INDEX ta_geb_index ON ta_geb(geom) INDEXTYPE IS MDSYS.SPATIAL_INDEX;
-- table for 3d-geometry
CREATE
TABLE ta_3dgeb(
geom3d MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY
-- metadata 3D
INSERT INTO USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA (TABLE_NAME, COLUMN_NAME, DIMINFO, SRID)
VALUES
'ta_3dgeb',
'geom3d',
MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ARRAY
( MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('X',4439900.00, 4440020.00, 0.005),
MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('Y', 5664050.00, 5664130.00, 0.005),
MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('Z', 0, 200, 0.005)
31468
-- spatial index
CREATE
INDEX ta_3dgeb_index ON ta_3dgeb(geom3d) INDEXTYPE IS MDSYS.SPATIAL_INDEX PARAMETERS ('SDO_INDX_DIMS=3');
*2. insert 2d-geomtry*
INSERT
INTO
ta_geb
VALUES
MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY(
2003
,31468
,NULL
,MDSYS.SDO_ELEM_INFO_ARRAY(
1
,1003
,1
,MDSYS.SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY(
4439975.91,5664077.07,
4439967.98,5664072.06,
4439975.33,5664060.42,
4439983.26,5664065.43,
4439975.91,5664077.07
,null --area
*3. calculate volume of the extruded area*
SELECT SDO_GEOM.SDO_VOLUME(SDO_UTIL.EXTRUDE(
GEOM,
SDO_NUMBER_ARRAY(0),
SDO_NUMBER_ARRAY(10),
'false', --validation
0.005),0.005)
from ta_geb;
This works fine so far. Now I wanna insert the extruded geometry (now 3D) in the table ta_3dgeb. All my attempts were in vain...
*4. insert extruded geomtry*
INSERT
INTO
ta_3dgeb
select
SDO_UTIL.EXTRUDE(
GEOM,
SDO_NUMBER_ARRAY(0),
SDO_NUMBER_ARRAY(10),
'false', --validation
0.005)
from ta_geb;
I got the following error message after executing this Code:
ORA-29875: failed in the execution of the ODCIINDEXINSERT routine
ORA-13365: layer SRID does not match geometry SRID
ORA-06512: in "MDSYS.SDO_INDEX_METHOD_10I", line 709
ORA-06512: in "MDSYS.SDO_INDEX_METHOD_10I", line 225
Then I tried to change something on the metadata and spatial indices, wihtout success. Does anyone has advices to solve the problem??
Afterwards I would like to export the 3d-geometry in a KML file to visualize it in Google Earth. Therefore oracle provides a tool. But I didn't managed it to export the geometry. Any hints for the KML export or are there any other tools alternatively??
Thanks for any suggestions!
RegardsExtrude does not automatically populate the SRID for the resulting geometry as there may not be a 3D equivalent of the 2D SRID defined
in the DB.
So the extruded geometry comes out without the SRID. In your case, since you are creating an index on the ta_3dgeb table
before inserting the extruded data, it is causing this failure.
So drop the index on the ta_3dgeb table and do the inserts into it.
Then you can manually update the geometries with the SRID if there is a corresponding 3D SRID for 31468.
Otherwise, you can use 31468.

Oracle Spatial book sample application
Hi all,
On Monday I received the Oracle Spatial book and I would like to post a topic about it. First of all I would like to congratulate the authors for their huge effort doing this excellent book. I think it will be very useful to the people that works with Spatial.
Next, my question is about the sample application showed in chapter 12 (SampleApplication.jsp). I run correctly mapviewer in my server and I can do the other examples, nevertheless when I want to start this application I recieve this error message about 'jdbc/spatial10g not found' in my web browser:

I am using Java 2 Runtime Environment version 1.4.2_02 and I think I have correctly configured the shared libraries in the oc4j server (sdoapi.jar, sdonm.jar, ojdbc14.jar, etc.). Anyway, I think I will be missing something but I don't know what.
I would be very grateful if somebody could help me.
Juan M.Hi Juan
Thanks for purchasing our book, and thanks also for the kind words.
I think I know what that problem is.
The application uses the network API. That API needs a database connection for the initial loading of the network. The connection used is provided by OC4J. This is done in the following code lines in the SampleApplication.jsp:
// Get JDBC database connection
InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
DataSource ds = (DataSource) ic.lookup("jdbc/"+dataSource.toLowerCase());
Connection conn = ds.getConnection();
// Load network
net = NetworkManager.readNetwork(conn, networkName);
In other words, for this to work, you need a datasource defined for OC4J, called "jdbc/spatial10g" (since dataSource is defined by default to be "SPATIAL10G".
To define the datasource, refer to chapter 11, page 499, at the bottom of the page. You need to add the following to your data-sources.xml config file ($OC4J_HOME/j2ee/home/config/data-sources.xml):
<data-source
class="com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource"
name="spatial10g"
location="jdbc/spatial10gCore"
xa-location="jdbc/xa/spatial10gXA"
ejb-location="jdbc/spatial10g"
connection-driver="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
username="spatial"
password="spatial"
url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:orcl101"
inactivity-timeout="30"
/>
(Adapt the url parameter to match your database definition)
Thanks for pointing out this problem. We will update the errata page (http://www.apress.com/book/errataDisplay.html?bID=315&sID=2374) with clearer instructions.

Poor performance with Oracle Spatial when spatial query invoked remotely
Is anyone aware of any problems with Oracle Spatial (10.2.0.4 with patches 6989483 and 7003151 on Red Hat Linux 4) which might explain why a spatial query (SDO_WITHIN_DISTANCE) would perform 20 times worse when it was invoked remotely from another computer (using SQLplus) vs. invoking the very same query from the database server itself (also using SQLplus)?
Does Oracle Spatial have any known problems with servers which use SAN disk storage? That is the primary difference between a server in which I see this poor performance and another server where the performance is fine.
Thank you in advance for any thoughts you might share.OK, that's clearer.
Are you sure it is the SQL inside the procedure that is causing the problem? To check, try extracting the SQL from inside the procedure and run it in SQLPLUS with
set autotrace on
set timing on
SELECT ....If the plans and performance are the same then it may be something inside the procedure itself.
Have you profiled the procedure? Here is an example of how to do it:

Simon -
I'm trying to learn Oracle Spatial working with 11g R2 and with 3D georeferenced data (specifically data describing buildings in a city).
But I'm having trouble getting a basic query to work on my dataset (it works for the book example), and I'm trying to do it exactly the way it's done in the Spatial Developer's Guide for 11g.
To learn how spatial queries work, I set up the cola_markets tables used in the book, made the appropriate manual entry in the user_sdo_geom_metadata view and created the index. Having done that, I can run the following simple query (as well as the others in the manual) on the book tables:
SELECT SDO_GEOM.SDO_DISTANCE(c_b.shape, c_d.shape, 0.005)
FROM cola_markets c_b, cola_markets c_d
WHERE c_b.name = 'cola_b' AND c_d.name = 'cola_d';
but when I try to do the same thing on my own tables (created from citygml data), I get an error. There is the difference that the data is 3D, and the index was created without any PARAMETERS ( ... ), hence is just 2D. But still I don't get why the following query doesn't work:
SELECT SDO_GEOM.SDO_DISTANCE(c_w.envelope, c_b.envelope, 0.0005)
FROM cityobject c_w,
cityobject c_b
WHERE c_w.id = 50025
AND c_b.id = 50018;
The id's for the buildings are valid, and I used the same tolerance used by the software that set up the database.
Here's the error I get in SQL developer:
ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception: java.lang.Exception: 54535
ORA-06512: at "MDSYS.SDO_3GL", line 637

Problem in importing data from shape file to Oracle Spatial
The following error is being displayed
symbol : constructor ShapefileReaderJGeom(java.lang.String)
location: class oracle.spatial.util.ShapefileReaderJGeom
Though i have downloaded latest Spatial Java class library (sdo_java_040319.zip) file and properly set sdoapi.jar and sdoutl.jar in the classpath.
How can i get rid of this problem. Is it because i am still using old spatial java library for some other programs.Hi,
Did you follow the instructions in the readme? Are you using Oracle10g?
Thanks,

Problem in Connection between MapServer and Oracle Spatial
Hi Everybody,
First i thanks Dan Abugov for quick reply fr my previous query.
I am working on the Oracle Spatial and MapServer
I want to clear that MapServer is not Oracle MapViewer, this is Open Source UMN MapServer.
When I pass the query(shown below), the empty image is displayed in the browser without any map
http://localhost/cgi-bin/mapserv.exe?map=/ms4w/apps/sdocountry/sdocountry.map&layers=country&mode=map
I created .map file (shown below) with the Oracle Spatial Connection.
MAP

SetEnv ORACLE_SID "orcl"
SetEnv TNS_ADMIN "d:/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/network/admin"
This is the my whole Sample code and configuration, I dont know why the map image is not generating.
I am not receving any error message.
MapServer for windows (ms4w) binaries is downloaded from "maptools.org"
System configuration
Windows 2000 Advanced Server
Oracle 10g with Oracle Spatial
MapServer 4.6.1
Apache/2.0.55 (Win32)
I am waiting for the some solution, from you to over come this problem.
Thanks & Regards,
Prema Selvam
GISbiz.Prema,
If you haven't already, you may want to post this same question to one of the MapServer mail lists (http://mapserver.gis.umn.edu/community/mailinglists/) - most MapServer users/developers are very quick to respond as well.

How to Query Sdo_Geometry Object of ORACLE SPATIAL in PHP?
Hi,
I am trying to Query the Oracle Spatial's Geometry object in the PHP page but its giving me the ADT Error. How can i see the GEOMETRY object information on the web using PHP. Thanking you in advance and waiting for ur prompt reply.
Adnan!Hi Ana,
In the Query below its returning the result as each value of one row in diffrent rows i wanna ask from u is:
1- May i get all these values in one row ?
2- Second, i want to query more than one row values from the table? as this is a single row subquery.
Thanks for your help and i m looking forward for a positive reply from you.
Regards,
Adnan!
The following select lists all ordinate-values from ONE object in the table:
select *
from table(select a.<column_name>.sdo_ordinates

Acquiring Oracle Spatial Data through WFS
Hi,
I have been researching for awhile and am slightly confused.
I have Oracle Spatial 11g with geometry data and would like to be able to retrieve that data through a WFS to serve to a viewing application.
Here's where I am confused:
1) Spatial has a WFS service which needs to be configured. If I were configure that, would I be able to access the data through URL getFeature commands? The documentation I see for them has the getFeature requests in the form of XML files so I am not sure if I can do that. Also it seems like the service is returning .log files but I think I would want GML...
If this is the option I should take, the tutorial to setup OC4J and the Web Services are for a Linux machine (http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/11gr1_db/datamgmt/spatialws/spatialws.htm) -- Is there one for Windows 64bit?
2) Do I need another "application layer" to enable this URL support? I know MapServer can use URL requests.. can I just run this against the data in my DB and forget about the Oracle WFS?
3) MapViewer seems to work with WFS Themes and handle requests through Java and SQL.. is this another option?
I am basically confused as to where everything sits and what I should be focusing on to get my Spatial data out of the DB through a WFS. Any assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!Any help debugging this issue would be greatly appreciated:
As per the documentation:
http://localhost:8888/SpatialWS-SpatialWS-context-root/wfsservlet?request=GetCapabilities&service=wfs&version=1.0.0
:this get request should return the capabilities info however I receive this error message instead in the browser:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>

"invalid LRS segment" when querying an Oracle Spatial DB
I have a table of GIS segments in an Oracle Spatial database. I'm using C# and ODP to connect to the database. For a given measure from the start of a segment, I want to find the GPS coordinates for that point. I'm running the following query:
select g.geom.sdo_ordinates ord_array from
*(select sdo_lrs.locate_pt(shape,0.02,0) as geom from test_schema.test_table*
where route='ABC' and segmentnum='101.1') g
where shape is of type SDO_GEOMETRY. I'm getting the following error:
ORA-13331: invalid LRS segment
Is there a problem with how I'm passing shape to locate_pt()? The Oracle Spatial documentation says the argument should be SDO_geometry, so that seems ok.
Edited by: 964844 on Oct 11, 2012 2:10 PMI'm using C# with ODP.NET.
Here is the current version of the code that is failing:
var param = new OracleParameter("geom", OracleDbType.Object);
param.UdtTypeName = "MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY";
param.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input;
OracleCommand oCmd = new OracleCommand();
oCmd.Connection = this.oConn;
oCmd.CommandText = queryStr;
oCmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text;
oCmd.Parameters.Add(param);
OracleDataAdapter da = new OracleDataAdapter(oCmd);
DataTable dt = new DataTable();
da.Fill(dt);
The exception is generated by the da.Fill(dt) line. -
Hi,
We have an application where we use Oracle Spatial (SDO_GEOMETRY) and we use Eclipselink as the JPA provider. When using this on RAC with MutliDatasource with algorithm as "LoadBalancing" we are seeing the following exception when storing entities
An error has occured flushing the user transaction.
Caused by: javax.persistence.PersistenceException: Exception EclipseLink-4002 (Eclipse Persistence Services - 2.3.1.v20111018-r10243):

The same works in standalone DB or if the MultiDataSource algorithm is failover. Similarly when a RAC node goes down, the same problem exists even with Failover
I searched in Oracle forums and found the following link which could be related
https://community.oracle.com/message/1147983#1147983
By looking at the above pattern, I think if the JGeometry class is passed different connections (one of each node) it fails. Is there a way to clear the descriptors in Eclipselink safely?
Is Spatial designed to work with RAC ?
Any pointers on how to solve this is highly appreciated.
Thanks,
RamaHello
You should try to split the upgrade into two tasks - upgrade and migration. Upgrade to 11.2.0.3 on the Windows server first and then migrate to the Linux RAC.
Spatial will be upgraded as part of the database upgrade, you may need to reindex as per
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e11830/sdo_migrat.htm
There are many ways to migrate from Windows to Linux, you could use RMAN as it is possible to restore Windows backups on Linux and vice versa.
