Oracle8i Installation

Can you please send me what can be the possible problem.
I have received a Oracle8i on Linux from Oracle 8i Starter Kit for Linux Book. I have done all the Pre - Installation Steps necessary with receiving any error. But when I am mounting the CD and issue this command ./runInstaller it is showing JRE invoked and it is halting, but the Welcome Screen is not appearing. Please tell me what can be the possible error

Typical reason is that your currrent JRE launching OUI is not the correct
you must have JRE from blackdown.com or sun.com (there is also a third , but i have not the ref here)

  • Oracle8i Installation Problems with RedHat 6.1

    Hi all,
The Oracle8i installation process for Linux has MUCH room for improvement. After retrieving the so-called "User Friendly Install of Oracle8i on RedHat 6.1", I followed the steps diligently and after extending my swap space, I managed to get the install to work - sort of.... the install of "Database Assistant" failed.. Help on this issue if appreciated. However, a solution to the next problem is much needed:
After exiting the installer, I go $ORACLE_HOME/install/utl and run the "linux.sh" script (as given in the guide). This script is not successful-it does not find a library "-ldl". Is this an Oracle library? Help! I cannot proceed with the installation until I can get this to work!

Take a closer look were it fails exactly.
The linux.sh mainly calls the MaKe files in different directories to link the products together. dl is a library which should be found in your PATH staement. Use ldconfig -p to see which lib-path are include in your ld-path. Make shure that you've included the ld_library_path statement in your root .profile.
    Hope this helps a bit.

    Tom,
Thanks for your messages. In fact, I formatted my large hard drive and reinstalled Suse Linux 7.3 again. The orarun8i.rpm and binutils.rpm has been installed on the system. I did change the environment variable settings according to my installation. But when starting the Oracle8i installer by running ./runInstaller, I still get the same above mentioned messages. I noticed that the shared memory = 0 in the message. Just wondered this may cause the installer stops. Please help.
    Thanks alot.

  • Personal Oracle8 installer causes error   windows XP

    Hello,
I tried to uninstall Personal Oracle8 from a Windows XP Professional. But while uninstalling a component it causes windows system error and asks to send a report to microsoft. Can anyone tell me how to uninstall it using Oracle installer or manually ?

Do you have access to Metalink? (metalink.oracle.com) There is a good document there that details how to completely remove all Oracle components from a Windows machine. It is doc. id. 124353.1 on Metalink.

  • Help: Oracle8i installation on Linux6.0

    Hi
I did not follow the whole discussion about installation of
Oracle8i on Linux 6.0, but if you speak of linux 6.0 and Oracle8i
this means to me you are using SuSE6.0 and Oracle8.1.5.
    Is this right?
    Let's say something to SuSE6.0 and Oracle8i - I don't know a way
to make this Oracle release running on 6.0!
You have - as mentioned - to read the installation manual
carefully and you will notice, that you need glibc2.1 which is
only shipped with RedHat 6.0 and SuSE6.2.
Don't try to upgrade form the earlier glibc to the newer one - it
may crash and destroy your system - as happened to me.
I recommend to use the RedHat6.0 version (this is the only
linux-box running RedHat, normally I am using SuSE), but this
    will make less problems.

  • Personal Oracle8i Installation on Win98

I just installed Personal Oracle8i for Win98. Installation works fine, database was created, net8 was configured. After rebooting my pc, I tried starting the database. An error message "Can not mount database" appears.
I also tried installing it to another pc. But this time, the database was not created. I tried creating the database using the Database Configuration Assistant but it takes so long and my pc hangs up. When I start the database, it prompted me for a password. I tried all passwords I knew(tiger, manager, oracle, change_on_install, etc), but nothing works.
Does anybody know how to fix these?

  • Oracle8i Installation Help Page

Just like the previous poster, I too have created my own page on installing 8i on linux, mainly focusing on redhat 6.0, but other details may apply to other distros.
It aint complete yet, as I still have to finish the post-database creation page.
    http://homepages.tig.com.au/~jmsalvo/linux/oracle8i.html
    * "Not logged on" when creating a database?
    * DB still reported 8.1.5.0.0 after applying 8.1.5.0.1 patch?
    * Problems after applying 8.1.5.0.2 patch?
These are answered there, but not in a FAQ manner, but on a step-by-step basis.
I will probably have a FAQ page in a few days.

    Chris,
Although I e-mailed you this already, I am reposting it for others:
The scripts are not meant to be run by the 'oracle' user by the 'root' user, as
these scripts are executed during startup and reboot. That's why you see in the
    an 'su' command such as:
    su - $ORA_OWNER -c $ORA_HOME/bin/dbstart
to change from 'root' to 'oracle', and return to 'root'
You should not be prompted for a password during startup and shutdown, as it
connects as 'internal'. If the user 'root' is prompted for a password, add the
linux group 'dba' as a secondary group of linux account 'root'.
In RedHat 6.0, I get on my screen:
    Starting up listener8i [OK]
    Starting up oracle8i [OK]
    Starting up names8i [OK]
Also true for shutdown. Your /var/log/messages will show you the output from
svrmgrl, it it indeed startup and shutdown.
Also, make sure what are the run levels in RedHat 6.1 for HALT, SHUTDOWN, and
the default runlevel. These are indicated in /etc/inittab. As I am using RedHat
6.0, these runlevels may be different with RedHat 6.1 and other distros for that
    matter.
In RedHat 6.0, HALT is 0, SHUTDOWN is 6, and default is 3. If they are different
in 6.1, then you need to make the link in the proper directory under /etc/rc.d.

    Hmmm.
Have you set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH enviroment variable as asked?
If yes, don't know where the problem could be.
Anyway remember that the CD is bugged and that you have to patch
