OracleWebRowSet vs. Sun's WebRowSet

I need to send over network cached WebRowSet - other party is able to use only this implementation from Sun.
I can't just create WebRowSet directly because of some incompatibilities with Oracle's JDBC (e.g. DATE column type is incompatible and reading ResultSet throws exception), so I use OracleWebRowSet. And now - is there any reasonable solution to translate OracleWebRowSet object to WebRowSet? Or maybe there is any other solution to create WebRowSet directly?

  • Sun implementation of WebRowSet fails for FLOAT values

    I have been attempting to use the sun reference implementation of WebRowSet class to query a vendor table and serialize the rowset to XML.
    Oracle's proprietary RowSet package does not include an implementation of WebRowSet.
    For simple tables everything works ok. However, a few of the vendor's more robust tables define numeric columns as FLOAT(126) in the DDL. These columns return thru the Oracle driver as type NUMBER (numeric Type 2) with driver recommended java class java.math.BigDecimal. The Precision is correctly returned as 126.
    The problem seems to be that the driver considers these columns to have a Scale of -127 which is nonsensical. When populating the WebRowSet from a ResultSet an exception is thrown which indicates that a negative scale has been encountered.
    Since WebRowSet can only be populated from a ResultSet and the scale property is returned by the driver, this means that WebRowSet is effectively unavailable for Oracle databases.
    BTW, our Oracle database is v 9.2.0.4.0 and the Oracle JDBC driver is 9.2.0.5. The WebRowSetImpl class was downloaded from javasoft this month - it is version 1.01.
    Has anyone else observed FLOAT columns with negative scale ? Is there any way to coerce the driver into returning a more accurate scale ?

  • WebRowSet & com.sun.xml.parser.Resolver error

    Hi all,
    I have a xml file which is generated by a webrowset on the server and which is read by a webrowset object in an applet with readXml method. I know that the xml is sent in a well-formed format as I checked it in IE6.
    I also know that the applet is reading the url correctly. From my searches I have found people refering to chaning the SYTEM_ID property which keeps the location of the DTD file to point to a local copy to avoid lookup problems. I have done this and still get the error.
    I have an idea that it may be the way the XML file is being read. (See code below.)
    URL url = new URL ("http","localhost",8081,"/getXML.jsp");
    HttpURLConnection host =(HttpURLConnection)url.openConnection();
    host.connect();
    java.io.Reader tmp = new java.io.InputStreamReader(host.getInputStream());
    java.io.BufferedReader buf = new BufferedReader(tmp);
    webrs.readXml (buf);
    Any ideas or pointer appreciated.
    TIA

    Hmm. Could you perhaps post the full stack trace and error message from the exception.

  • How to use WebRowSet in Web Services

    Hi,
    I'm new on both Java and Web Services. Currently I am trying to use JDevelper 10g's Web Services Wizard to create a Web Service, which will be consumed by .Net clients.
    I would like to know how to pass WebRowSet back to client. Since WebRowSet is not default data type the Wizard can handle, I wish anybody can tell me if this is feasible, if so, what steps I should do to accomplish this task.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi, Eric,
    Thank you for your quick reply.
    The web service I am trying to develop is basically a generic Data Access Component to bridge between SQL server and a desktop .Net application. The application will have about 3000 users from WAN, therefore we want to have a server side component to handle connection pooling etc. Because of limitation of current servers, we are asked to develop a Java Web Service, instead of MS WS.
    To make the component more reusable, I am thinking to have methods like this in the service:
    RunQueryReturnRS(String Sql, WebRowSet, rs)
    RunQueryReturnInt(String Sql, int NumRecdImpacted)
    RunStoredProcedureReturnRS(….)
    RunStoredProcedureReturnInt(….)
    ……
    You see, I would like to get whole resultset back to client, including both metadata and data in a format of generic resultset. When I paged through the Sun’s document, finding WebRowSet is claimed to be seariable, and ready for Web Service. I thought if I can use WebRowSet that will save me time to write new classes to hold resultset info and pass back to client.
    Could you please tell me if it is a feasible approach?
    Thank you.

  • Trying to populate a table with data from WebRowset

    Hi,
    I want to be able to populate my tables with data from WebRowsets that have been saved to files. Everything goes good until I get to acceptChanges(). At which point I get a NullPointerException.
    Here's the code...
    WebRowSet wrs = new WebRowSetImpl();
    FileReader reader = new FileReader(inputFile);
    wrs.readXml(reader);
    wrs.beforeFirst();
    CachedRowSet crs = new CachedRowSetImpl();
    crs.setSyncProvider("com.sun.rowset.providers.RIXMLProvider");
    crs.populate(wrs);
    crs.beforeFirst();
    crs.acceptChanges(con);
    Results in...
    java.lang.NullPointerException
    at com.sun.rowset.CachedRowSetImpl.acceptChanges(CachedRowSetImpl.java:867)
    at com.sun.rowset.CachedRowSetImpl.acceptChanges(CachedRowSetImpl.java:919)
    I'm using Java 1.5_02. I looked at the source code for CachedRowSetImpl, and the only thing I could think of is that maybe "provider.getRowSetWriter()" in the following snippet is returning null....
    public void setSyncProvider(String s)
    throws SQLException
    provider = SyncFactory.getInstance(s);
    rowSetReader = provider.getRowSetReader();
    rowSetWriter = (TransactionalWriter)provider.getRowSetWriter();
    Any ideas?? Thanks!

    I have the same problem after setting com.sun.rowset.providers.RIXMLProvider.
    Looks like a bug to me.
    By the way, why are you creating a new CachedRowSet and populate it with a WebRowset (which extends CachedRowSet)?

  • Inconsistency using SUN Rowset Reference Implementation

    I am Using the RowSet reference implemention with Oracle Database.
    I am having a class which takes a input in form of XML adhering to the webrowset format.
    The xml contains some records to be inserted , some records to be updated and some records to be deleted.
    This xml is then fed to a WebRowSet using the webRowSet.readXml method which takes a Reader as a parameter. I am using a StringReader here.
    Here is the code snippet:-
    public void executeUpdate(String webRowSetXML)throws SQLComponentException{
    System.out.println(" webRowSetXML "+webRowSetXML);
    StringReader sr = new StringReader(webRowSetXML);
    WebRowSet webRowSet = null;
    try {
    webRowSet = new WebRowSetImpl();
    webRowSet.readXml(sr);
    webRowSet.acceptChanges(connection);
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    // TODO Auto-generated catch block
    e.printStackTrace();
    I found here that the insertion and updating works without any problem , but the deletion doesn't work.
    Then to study this problem , i wrote a program with two WebRowSets, one will be the producer of the data and the other will be the consumer.
    the first WebRowSet will read the data from the data source , delete a record using the following piece of code:-
    wrs1.absolute(6);
    wrs1.deleteRow();
    And then i generate a String XML using the writeXML method.
    Then i feed this xml to the readXML method of the second WebRowSet and i call the acceptChanges method of the second WebRowSet. But the record doesn't get deleted.Also after printing the xml from the second WebRowSet , the <deleteRow> tag is absent from the xml.
    The same condition works properly for the insert and update operation and the respective <insertRow> and <updateRow> methods appear in both the xml's generated from both the WebRowSet's.
    Is this a bug in the webRowSet implemention or is it a problem of Oracle? Or is it that something else needs to be done for the delete operation to work.
    I tried the same thing with Pervasive SQL instead of oracle. Here only the insert operation works.
    Any body please help me in solving this problem...

    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/docs/api/javax/sql/RowSet.html
    From the sun desc above.
    The RowSet interface is unique in that it is intended to be implemented using the rest of the JDBC API. In other words, a RowSet implementation
    is a layer of software that executes "on top" of a JDBC driver.
    Implementations of the RowSet interface can be provided by anyone,
    including JDBC driver vendors who want to provide a RowSet
    implementation as part of their JDBC products.

  • Starting WebRowSet

    I am currently working on a program that uses XML to store data. I am having problems, about how to import the webrowset. It seems I can not find the javax.sql.webrowset class. I am using jdk 1.4.2_04-b04 on JBuilder 9. Can sombody help me. Thanks.

    WebRowSet is not supported in the standard Java API. It will be introduced in JDK 1.5 (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/javax/sql/rowset/WebRowSet.html). Until then, it depends on your JDBC driver if it has a WebRowSet implementation with it's own API.

    Hi anandkumar,
    I belive this issue can be resolved by changing the  Query proprties for the perticular field.
    Kindly check the Field proerties in query designer and ensure that Text is enabled ather than Key.
    __Field property check up:__Go to query designer->click onn the field-> Right hand side in properties click on display tab-> select Text in drop down menu of Display as tab.
    FURTHER CHECK UP: check the master data avaiulability for the perticular info object, if masterdata is not available, do the text data for txt data availability in report level.
    Hope this helps you!!

  • How do I use Sun Web Server 7.0u1 reverse proxy to change public URLs?

    Some of our installations use the Sun Web Server 7.0 (update 1, usually)
    for hosting some of the public resource and reverse-proxying other parts
    of the URI namespace from other backend servers (content, application
    and other types of servers).
    So far every type of backend server served a unique part of the namespace
    and there was no collision of names, and the backend resources were
    published in a one-to-one manner. That is, a backend resource like, say,
    http://appserver:8080/content/page.html would be published in the internet
    as http://www.publicsite.com/content/page.html
    I was recently asked to research whether we can rename some parts of
    the public URI namespace, to publish some or all resources as, say,
    http://www.publicsite.com/data/page.html while using the same backend
    resources.
    Another quest, possibly related in solution, was to make a tidy url for the
    first page the user opens of the site. That is, in the current solution when
    a visitor types the url "www.publicsite.com" in his or her browser, our web
    server returns an HTTP-302 redirect to the actual first page URL, so the
    browser sends a second request (and changes the URL in its location bar).
    One customer said that it is not "tidy". They don't want the URL to change
    right upon first rendering the page. They want the root page to be rendered
    instantly i the first HTTP request.
    So far I found that I can't solve these problems. I believe these problems
    share a solution because it relies on ability to control the actual URI strings
    requested by Sun Web Server from backend servers.
    Some details follow, now:
    It seems that the reverse proxy (Service fn="service-passthrough") takes
    only the $uri value which was originally requested by the browser. I didn't
    yet manage to override this value while processing a request, not even if
    I "restart" a request. Turning the error log up to "finest" I see that even
    when making the "service-passthrough" operation, the Sun Web Server
    still remembers that the request was for "/test" (in my test case below);
    it does indeed ask the backend server for an URI "/test" and that fails.
    [04/Mar/2009:21:45:34] finest (25095) www.publicsite.com: for host xx.xx.xx.83
    trying to GET /content/MainPage.html while trying to GET /test, func_exec reports:
    fn="service-passthrough" rewrite-host="true" rewrite-location="true"
    servers="http://10.16.2.127:8080" Directive="Service" DaemonPool="2b1348"
    returned 0 (REQ_PROCEED)My obj.conf file currently has simple clauses like this:
    # this causes /content/* to be taken from another (backend) server
    NameTrans fn="assign-name" from="/content" name="content-test" nostat="/content"
    # this causes requests to site root to be HTTP-redirected to a certain page URI
    <If $uri =~ '^/$'>
        NameTrans fn="redirect"
            url="http://www.publicsite.com/content/MainPage.html"
    </If>
    <Object name="content-test">
    ### This maps http://public/content/* to http://10.16.2.127:8080/content/*
    ### Somehow the desired solution should instead map http://public/data/* to http://10.16.2.127:8080/content/*
        Service fn="service-passthrough" rewrite-host="true" rewrite-location="true" servers="http://10.16.2.127:8080"
        Service fn="set-variable" set-srvhdrs="host=www.publicsite.com:80"
    </Object>
    I have also tried "restart"ing the request like this:
        NameTrans fn="restart" uri="/data"or desperately trying to set the new request uri like this:
        Service fn="set-variable"  uri="/magnoliaPublic/Main.html"Thanks for any ideas (including a statement whether this can be done at all
    in some version of Sun Web Server 7.0 or its opensourced siblings) ;)
    //Jim

    Some of our installations use the Sun Web Server 7.0 (update 1, usually)please plan on installing the latest service pack - 7.0 Update 4. these updates addresses potentially critical bug fixes.
    I was recently asked to research whether we can rename some parts of
    the public URI namespace, to publish some or all resources as, say,
    http://www.publicsite.com/data/page.html while using the same backend
    resources.> now, if all the resources are under say /data, then how will you know which pages need to be sent to which back end resources. i guess, you probably meant to check for /data/page.html should go to <back-end>/content/page.html
    yes, you could do something like
    - edit your corresponding obj.conf (<hostname>-obj.conf or obj.conf depending on your configuration)
    <Object name=¨default¨>
    <If $uri = ¨/page/¨>
    #move this nametrans SAF (for map directive - which is for reverse proxy within <if> clause)
    NameTrans.. fn=map
    </If
    </Object>
    and you could do https-<hostname>/bin/reconfig (dynamic reconfiguration) to check out if this is what you wanted. also, you might want to move config/server.xml <log-level> to finest and do your configuration . this way, you would get enough information on what is going on within your server logs.
    finally,when you are satisfied, you might have to run the following command to make your manual change into admin config repository.
    <install-root>/bin/wadm pull-config user=admin config=<hostname> <hostname>
    <install-root>/bin/wadm deploy-config --user=admin <hostname>
    you might want to check out this for more info on how you could use <if> else condition to handle your requirement.
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-6599/gdaer?a=view
    finally, you might want to refer to this doc - which explains on ws7 request processing overview. this should provide you with some pointers as to what these different directives mean
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-6599/gbysz?a=view
    >
    One customer said that it is not "tidy". They don't want the URL to change
    right upon first rendering the page. They want the root page to be rendered
    instantly i the first HTTP request.
    please check out the rewrite / restart SAF. this should help you.
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-6599/gdada?a=view
    pl. understand that - like with more web servers - ordering of directives is very important within obj.conf. so, you might want to make sure that you verify the obj.conf directive ordering is what you want it to do..
    It seems that the reverse proxy (Service fn="service-passthrough") takes
    only the $uri value which was originally requested by the browser. I didn't
    yet manage to override this value while processing a request, not even if

    still remembers that the request was for "/test" (in my test case below);
    it does indeed ask the backend server for an URI "/test" and that fails.
    now, you are in the totally wrong direction. web server 7 includes a highly integrated reverse proxy solution compared to 6.1. unlike 6.1, you don´t have to download a separate plugin . however, you will need to manually migrate your 6.1 based reverse proxy settings into 7.0. please check out this blog link on how to set up a reverse proxy
    http://blogs.sun.com/amit/entry/setting_up_a_reverse_proxy
    feel free to post to us if you need any futher help
    you are probably better off - starting fresh
    - install ws7u4
    - use gui or CLI to create a reverse proxy and map one on one - say content
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-6601/create-reverse-proxy-1?a=view
    if you don´t plan on using ws7 integrated web container (ability to process jsp/servlet), then you could disable java support as well. this should reduce your server memory footprint
    <install-root>/bin/wadm disable-java user=admin config=<hostname>
    <install-root>/bin/wadm create-reverse-proxy user=admin uri-prefix=/content server=<http://your back end server/ config=<hostname> --vs=<hostname>
    <install-root>/bin/wadm deploy-config --user=admin <hostname>
    now, you can check out the regular express processing and <if> syntax from our docs and try it out within <https-<hostname>/config/<hostname>-obj.conf> file and restart the server. pl. note that once you disable java, ws7 admin server creates <vs>-obj.conf and you need to edit this file and not default obj.conf for your changes to be read by server.
    >
    I have also tried "restart"ing the request like this:
    NameTrans fn="restart" uri="/data"
    ordering is very important here... you need to do this some thing like
    <Object name=default>
    <If not $restarted>
    NameTrans fn=restart uri from=/¨ uri=/foo.
    </If>

    This seems to be glassfish bug.
    Also, could you please tell me where can I find the sources for com.sun.jbi.management.facade.Installer?
    Thanks in advance!

    The solution comes with the latest release of jbi-runtime. It appears to be fixed in March, 2008

  • Query help - Fetch employees working on two consecutive weekends(SAT/SUN)

    Hello Gurus,
    I have the following requirement and i need your help on this.
    We have a table with all employees effort logged in for the days they have worked. a sample data is given below
    TD_date     Emp_id     Effort     Archive_month
    2-Mar-13     123     8     Mar-13
    9-Mar-13     123     8     Mar-13
    2-Mar-13     213     4     Mar-13
    3-Mar-13     213     4     Mar-13
    24-Mar-13     213     8     Mar-13
    9-Mar-13     312     4     Mar-13
    10-Mar-13     312     4     Mar-13
    16-Mar-13     312     8     Mar-13
    In the above sample data, we have employee 123 who worked on consecutive SATURDAY and 312 who worked on consecutive weekends (9th, 10th and 16th March) but the employee 213 worked on 1st weekend and 4th weekend of the month(Archive_month). So the output should return the employees who worked on two consecutive weekends as below.
    Emp_id
    123
    312
    I have written a query to fetch all employees who worked only on a SAT or SUN which is given below, but i am not able to return the employees who worked on consecutive weekends and i need your help.
    select emp_id, count(*)
    from timesheet_archive
    where archive_month = '03/2013'
    and trim(to_char(td_date,'DAY')) in ('SATURDAY','SUNDAY')
    group by emp_id having count(*) > 1
    order by td_date desc
    Please help me with an approach in SQL or PL/SQL to generate a report of employees who worked on two consecutive weekends.
    Thanks,
