Oradata from oracle ee into oracle xe

hi
When I shutdown the db and copy the oradata of the oracle10gEnterprise Edition to oracle xe's oradata location, I cannot open the database. Even I make new pfile and start to open with it, it doesnt open.
Why not?

Even I make new pfile and start to open with it, it doesnt open.Do You mean you are trying to clone the database from EE to XE? Please elaborate the steps that you are peforming, only Pfile will not work, Control file is the one that stores information about datafiles and log files, that also needs to be recreated in case you are cloning.
There are certain limitations with Oracle XE.

Use SE or EE.
XE should be used mostly for learning purpose or teaching purpose.

Hi All, We are in to Release 11.5.10.2.There is a specific requirement to Prevent users from creating Manual Sales Orders in Oracle and  yet users should be able to book the Sales Orders Imported from CRM system into Orcale. Please advise.

    Thanks for your advise.
However, I missed to mention that we have two set of users  One is for Finished Goods and another for Spares.
Only Spares users need to be prevented from creating Direct/Manual Sales Orders in Oracle.
As you suggested, if this will be done at Form level, that may Disallow FG users also to create Manula Sales Orders which should not be the case.
Further, I tried to test one scenario through Processing Constraints but it did not work.

  • Import data from a file into oracle db

    Hello!
The problem is the following: data within a file must be placed
into several tables in a oracle server. For that a program has
to be written. It4s not done with executing a program cause the
data in the file can vary and depending on different flags the
import into oracle must be done. Now we tried the classes of
oo4o to access the db, but this only works for integer values,
the samples from oracle also only work for integer. We don4t
need to use oo40, is there a better / other way to write the
programm ? Has anybody a free sample ?
    Thanx

ur problem is to import the data from file with different conditions which needs to be taken care programitically
Pls mail me your file and ur logic

  • Importing table dump from oracle into sybase

I was wondering if anyone has ever imported a table dump from oracle into sybase. I just tried it and it didn't work. I used TOAD to create my table dump file but when i imprted it into sybase using bcp in i got the following error
cs_convert: cslib user api layer: common library error: The result is truncated because the conversion/operation resulted in overflow.
    CSLIB Message: - L0/O0/S0/N36/1/0:

If you are looking for a basic/standard way to exchange data between Oracle and Sybase, use the CSV format.
It is trivial to write a generic SQL*Plus script for Oracle to extract data from a table (or a SELECT) and spool this into a properly formatted CSV file.
It is also just as easy to use Sybase Bulk Copy utility to load that CSV file into Sybase.
There are also alternative methods. One would be to use Oracle's Heterogeneous Services. You can define a database link in Oracle that connects, via ODBC, to Sybase. And using this database link you can push (insert) data into Sybase.

When I want to do an export from Oracle 8.0.6 to Oracle 7.3.4, I use the exp and imp from Oracle 7.3.4. This way the whole excercise works fine. The only thing I have to do is run the script catexp7.sql on the Oracle 8.0.6 version (delivered with Oracle 8.0.6). Perhaps You can try the same thing with Oracle 8.0.4, use the exp and imp from 8.0.4 to do the work.

  • Create and insert into table from Oracle to MS SQL server.

    Hello,
Oracle Database 11g and Red hat 5
I have a very different kind of issue. I am handling the ORACLE db(remote db with all the important data). On the other side their is a MS SQL server db(local db with some testing data in it). All the users will access the ORACLE db for the actual processing but for sometime they need to apply some of their own concepts. So they will transfer the data from ORACLE to MS sql server.
I want to create a code in ORACLE db like a procedure , which will create a table in MS sql server , insert data into it,Also create some metadata table to keep some of my table's info on MS SQL serve db,If the table is present it should append the data, .... like many things ...
Overall my question is , how can i write a code to make these operation on a remote db, that to these operations are DDL and on MS SQL Server(Non-Oracle) ???
Please guide me with some ideas or solutions ...
Also provide if you have some good links to study ...
    thanks in advance.

  • How to I convert data from oracle database into excel sheet

how to I convert data from oracle database into excel sheet.
I need to import columns and there datas from oracle database to microsoft excel sheet.
Please let me know the different ways for doing this.
    Thanks.

asktom.oracle.com has an excellent article on writing a PL/SQL procedure that dumps data to an Excel spreadsheet-- search for 'Excel' and it'll come up.
You can also use your favorite connection protocol (ODBC, OLE DB, etc) to connect from Excel to Oracle and pull the data out that way.

  • Import data from oracle database table into csv file

    Hi
I have to import data from a table into a csv file. Could anyone suggest the best method to do it? My application is JSP as frontend and have put business logic in servlet.

FastReader from wisdomforce will help you quickly export data into csv file. http://www.wisdomforce.com
fastreader can be called and executed as an external process ( Runtime.exec(..) ) to extract data from Oracle tables into flat file

  • Reading milliseconds from Sql server into oracle 10g

    Hi,
We have a very time sensitive pressing requirements to be addressed immediately.
We need to read the date time column from sql server 2008 into oracle 10g.
We have a dblink established between the two servers and have tried to use sql server and sql native client 10 driver to read the dates from sql into oracle. This we are able to do very successfully.
The issue is in reading milliseconds stored in sql server. The millisecond part comes in as 00000 from sqlserver to oracle. These milliseconds are needed to identlfy the unique records.
    For instance
    SQL SERVER Oracle
    source_id source id
    01/01/2012 6:30:35:456 01/01/2012 6:30:35:000000.
Im issuing my query through Toad via Oracle to remote sql server using a dblink which connects using HS ODBC connection to sql server 2008(remote).
We have no control over sql server Db as this is remote third party DB.We just have select access to their tables to bring into our own oracle DB.
Any insight or help will be much appreciated.

    Hi,
Could you please send the following information -
    - what version of HSODBC are you using ? Is it a 10.2 version ?
    - what is the SQL*Server datatype of the column you are reading ?
    - from Oracle could you issue -
    describe sql_server_table@hsodbc
    - what is the Oracle datatype shown for the column ?
Could you also run your tests using SQLPLUS instead of TOAD ? We don't support TOAD and need to know if the problem also happens when using SQLPLUS, to avoid it being a TOAD problem.
Also, 10.2 HSODBC is now desupported and you should be using the 11g Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) which is a direct replacement for HSODBC. To use DG4ODBC your RDBMS needs to be at 10.2.0.4 or higher and DG4ODBC should be installed in a completely separate ORACLE_HOME from the existing 10.2 install.

I'm not able figure out why a conversion is taking place even though the same character set is used in 10G.
I would be greatful to you guys if can suggest a way to avoid this conversion as i fear data will be affected kindly need your suggestions for the same and thank you.
    Regards
    Parikshit

based on your nsl parameter settings, we can see that both databases use the same characterset. so, characterset conversion should not take place. the reason why you are facing these warnings is due to environment variables.
you should set NLS_LANG environment variables both before exporting and importing. Then warnings should disappear. For example, in your case you can set NLS_LANG=.WE8ISO8859P1 (please note that I have omitted language and territory parts here)
Try setting enviroment variables and then perform export and import again.

  • Copying SQL Script from Oracle SQL Developer into Excel with formatting

I need to copy a SQL Script into Excel in order to develop some VBA code. Is there any nice way that I can copy SQL Script from Oracle SQL Developer into Excel and retain its formatting? I am a stickler for having legible, readable SQL and like to have all my columns lined up and aliases lined up. When we used to use SQL Navigator, the tab formatting seemed to copy and paste just fine. Now that we have migrated to Oracle SQL Developer, the formatting seems to get all messed up.
And suggestions are greatly appreciated and Thanks in advance for your review and am hopeful for an answer.
    Thanks.
    PSULionRP

I suppose you want a real tabulator instead of spaces. You can configure this in the preferences (SQL Formatter - Oracle). You have to apply it then to your existing code (e.g. CTRL-F7), but new code should get it right from the start.
    Hope that helps,
    K.

  • Ideas on how to export from Oracle (11g) for import into a MSSQL server?

    Hi folks,
Crazy question yes...but I have some devs that are needing to export some schemas/tables from Oracle to somehow import into MSSQL.
Are there any utilities our there, hopefully from Oracle that would allow for this? So far, all I can think of are to generate the DDL from the Oracle instance, and then do some scripts to output the data in a cvs type format....
    Anything better than this?
Any links or suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,

Senior Oracle DBAThank you for the prompt reply. I'm looking into this and am finding some Oracle documentation, but just off the top of my head, this approach seems to assume the 2 database servers can see or talk to each other.
What if the oracle box is on one network...that cannot connect to the network that the MSSQL box is on. For example..running off some test data from one company to another company with networks that do not cross?Assuming some acceptable export/import utility, how do you plan on getting the file from the source to the target if the two servers are on networks that cannot talk to each other?Well, I'm still trying to gather facts, this is just a question coming in from some developers.
From what it may be, is that the can scp from site to site, but no direct connectivity between the database servers on the sites...isolated, maybe a DMZ...I dunno everything yet.Well, you either have connectivity between the two machines or you don't. Binary decision tree.
    IF  net_connectivity_exists
you can use oracle sqlnet enabled capabilities
         OR
you can transfer an export file via ftp, sftp, scp, etc.
    ELSE
you have to transfer an export file via sneakernet
    END-IF
