OS Upgrade = iDVD Problem

Hi,
I have been using iDVD for four years or so; when I recently upgraded my OS to Leopard, iDVD won't open, saying "you cannot use this version of the application iDVD with this version of Mac OS X".
When I downloaded iDVD 7.0, it would not install as it could not find an "eligible" version of iDVD in the applications folder.
What can I do?
Thanks!
Ben

You have 2 choices essentially (Go forward to iLife'08 upgrade/purchase OR go backward to Tiger while retaining iDvd5). Usually it's best to go forward.
A third option to consider is upgrading to iDvd'08 only (custom install provided you have iLife'08) and once that's done download iMovie 6 from apple's web site an no additional charge. Your choice.

    Do you get this window when you hold down the Command+Option keys and launch iPhoto?
    If not then you're not holding down both keys long enough.

    Assuming iPhoto 09 or later:
    Option 1
    Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
    This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

    Logic Pro 8 upgrade MAJOR PROBLEM
    There was never a problem since you tried to upgrade from a pirated copy of Logic 9
    Why did you even think this could go well?
    I dont have any original packaging since i moved and i lost it.
    Did you check Lost and Found?
    I am in dire need as i run a studio.
    Yet, you let your brother load a pirated copy of Logic 9.
    I need help ASAP!
    You really don't need help.
    Why is it that when I see POSTS like these that the person registers the same day.

  • Since QT 7.1.0 upgrade iDVD & iMovie not rendering audio

    Can I get my old QT 7.0 back?
    Since I upgraded to QuickTime 7.1 & 7.1.2, It has taken a full week to produce a 45min. video using iMovie and iDVD
    This is the first time I've used the new iLife to create a movie or DVD.
    Usually I use Final Cut Pro to edit but since the last upgrade of FCP, I have been unable to capture video from my Sony DCR-TRV 103 cameras (no longer supported, Great!). Since I have over 300 tapes archived in this format I am discouraged and have had to resort to using iMovie which ironically has no problem capturing from these cameras but takes days to render (seriously), and iDVD simply stalls when it gets to compressing audio. I tried converting the files to DV in QT ( 16hrs.) but that didn't help. My system used to work marvelously, but since the "upgrades" I can't get anything out.
    This is really broke, and it's killing me and my business.
    I could kick myself for being enticed to change.
    HELP! ?

    There is an incompatibility between QT 7.1.2 and OS10.3.9. (I have reported this to Apple, as I'm sure others have, but so far no cure).
    This website will tell you how to downgrade QT:
    http://fox-gieg.com/tutorials/2005/undo-quicktime-7/
    however I downgraded to 7.0.4 because I couldn't burn DVDs with 7.1.2, but I still couldn't burn them (even though it was OK with 7.0.4 earlier before I upgraded).
    If the downgrade process described in this site doesn't work for you you may find that your only answer is to upgrade to Tiger (10.4.7).

  • IDVD problem with Leopard

    I just installed Leopard a week ago and only discovered the "blank screen" problem today when I tried to load iDVD. The problem is NOT my graphic card, nor is it my understanding of HOW to use the program, and I have installed all updates available to date. I have created many successful iDVD projects in the past using several different themes. Now the themes show up in the customize menu but when I select one and when iDVD first opens, no theme displays. This is evidently a bug or something with Leopard that needs to be fixed. Anybody have any real solutions here? If not, Leopard isn't worth it to me because I use iDVD frequently and have a large media project I need to do in the next few days and I cannot do it because of the blank screen.

    The reason I made a new post is because I read the other posts you refer to and there was nothing helpful in them. Nothing. You can see that in that no one in the other post found a solution either. Perhaps a new thread will encourage someone else
    I am not running iDVD 7, I am running 5 that comes bundled with Tiger. I used it successfully until I installed Leopard. I would appreciate a real solution to this, at least a real reply rather than going through tutorials for iLife 08 which I do not have, and when I've been using iDVD successfully for a couple years now a tutorial is of no real help. This is what some of the others have been saying as well.
    Can someone please actually address this instead of sending us in tutorial circles, etc? If there's a glitch with using anything prior to iLife 08, we need to know this upfront BEFORE installing Leopard so Apple needs to know about this.
    Does an upgrade to iLife 08 fix it? Do I need to go ahead and get rid of Leopard? Thanks.

  • Upgraded iDVD 6 missing clip errors

    I recently upgraded to iLife 6 after successfully creating over 20 movies (DVD's) with iLife 5. The first movie that I edited with the new iMovie came out really well (45 minutes long), but when I go to burn the DVD using iDVD 6.0, I always get the same error..."Cannot find Clip 158" (or several missing clips) with an option to "Search" or "Cancel". Searching is to no avail...because the clips that iDVD says are missing are not part of the final edited movie, and selecting cancel just dumps the DVD burn. This error is very repeatable (tried 4 times).

    Hello, I am also having a similiar problem, I am trying to burn an imovie project in idvd, and while it begins encoding, it gives me a message that I am missing clips that a) are not in my project, or b) are in my project and are not missing.
    Can you help me to solve this? My contract project is due tomorrow, and I can not get it to them....?????

  • Photoshop CS2 Upgrade Installation Problems w/ Vista Problems

    I recently purchased a new laptop w/ Windows Vista which I'm trying to install my copy of Photoshop CS2 onto. My Photoshop license is an upgrade license ... originally upgraded from Photoshop v4.0.
    When installing an upgrade copy of PS CS2, it requires proof of your previous version in order to verify you're a legitimate upgrader. This works fine if you're upgrading from a version of Photoshop after 5.x ...you simply insert your CD and the installation continues. The installation process is less straight-forward for users like myself ... installing from an upgraded version prior to 5. I'm required to call Adobe ... and conduct a phone verification procedure where I give them a code displayed on the screen during installation and they give me a response code to type into the installation form.
    I deauthorized my old laptop ... start the installation routine on my new laptop ... call Adobe w/ my verification code ... enter the response code (which is accepted) and complete the installation without any problems. My problem occurs when I go to run the software. The startup screen indicates that the software is still in "Tryout Mode", and the first window I'm presented with is the "Adobe Activation" window requesting my serial number. If I try to enter my CS2 serial number it is rejected with the message:
    "You must enter a valid serial number before activating online or viewing activation options. Please check your serial number and re-enter it, or click the Purchase button to buy a copy of this product"
    The thing is ... this IS a valid serial number. I've confirmed this with Adobe. (It's probably an upgrade serial number, which is why the software is rejecting it). I called Adobe and they're now telling me that I must enter a paid-support agreement in order to receive help installing my software. They claim their software is working correctly, and it must be a problem with my computer.
    Has anybody experienced a problem like this? I refuse to pay more for something that worked fine on XP just to use it on Vista due to bugs in their installation and activation routine.

    Have the bugs of using with Vista been fixed, or still not working? thanks,
    I know this is an old problem, but surely there is an answer to fix the problem by now...
    What problems?  I used Photoshop CS2 with Vista with no problems (I still have it installed on a Vista system if you'd like me to check anything in particular).  CS3 and CS4 worked well as well.  Haven't tried CS5 on Vista as I have moved up to Windows 7, but I suspect it works just fine.

  • [SOLVED]After yesterday's upgrade screen problem

    So, yesterday i have upgraded to the newest kernel and udev. Now, the problem is that (i have XFCE) when laptop goes into "switch off screen" mode (in xfce4-power-manager) i cannot recall the screen back to normal (it remains black). I have to suspend it and wake it up in order the screen is visible/normal again (haven't tried to just kill X).

    hi,
    I have the same problem(intel Corporation Mobile 915GM). And I found the following can solve the half of the problem
    Section "Device"
        Identifier    "Device0"
        Driver        "vesa" # <---replacing intel by vesa
    EndSection
    But after "kill X", the screen of the framebuffer becomes quite horrible as showed in the pic.

  • 9.0.2.6 Portal Repository Upgrade Patch problems.

    We got some problem with Portal when tryed to apply
    9.0.2.6 Upgrade. Could anybody give advice on this issue:
    Initial configuration:
    Solaris8, Portal 9.0.2.2.14, Oracle 9iAS R2 v.9.0.2.0, RDBMS 9.0.1.3. The infrastructure and midtier work on different SPARC-servers.
    Accordingly upgrade procedure we succesfully applied:
    a) Infrastructure: 9.0.1.4 Patchset for Oracle RDBMS server, 9.0.2.2 Patchset for OID, Oracle 9iAS SSO-server
    migration to 9.0.2.5, 9.0.2.2 Patchset for 9iAS Core.
    b) 9.0.1.4 Patchset for Oracle RDBMS server, 9.0.2.2 Patchset for OID, Oracle 9iAS SSO-server migration to 9.0.2.5, 9.0.2.2 Patchset for 9iAS Core, Portal 9.0.2.6
    patch.
    After this we needed to make just one last step:
    Portal 9.0.2.6 Repository Upgrade Patch (2981297) for
    changing Portal's repository schemes. It worked but
    like a result we got the next errors after patch upgrade
    was done:
    a) "The following invalid non-Portal objects exist in the Portal Schema: INDEX ABC (the name of portal object), PACKAGE BODY WWMON_REP_REPOSITORY, PACKAGE BODY WWMON_REP_REPOSIT_DTL, PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol "," when expecting one of the following: (-+case mod not null <an identifier>,...) The symbol "null" was substituted for "," to continue.)" See upgtmp/nonportal.log
    b) "ERROR: 1 invalid objects remain; ERROR: Failed while updating the new portlet IDS..."
    c) "ERROR: ORA-01407: cannot update ("PORTAL"."WWSBR_URL$"."URL") to NULL.
    d) Two package body of packages at PORTAL scheme became invalid: WWMON_REP_REPOSITORY, WWMON_REP_REPOSIT_DTL. About 20 package body of packages at PORTAL_DEMO became invalid (It seems like initial portlet ID's disappeared
    and except of pportlet_id there is nothing:
    Example:
    inital statement at body:
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    PORTAL.wwpro_api_invalidation.invalidate_cache(
    p_provider_id => p_provider_id,
    p_portletid => 1065753336,
    p_instance_id => p_reference_path,
    p_subscriber_id => PORTAL.wwctx_api.get_subscriber_id ,
    p_user => PORTAL.wwctx_api.get_user);
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    after upgrade repository patch:
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    PORTAL.wwpro_api_invalidation.invalidate_cache(
    p_provider_id => p_provider_id,
    p_portletid => ,
    p_instance_id => p_reference_path,
    p_subscriber_id => PORTAL.wwctx_api.get_subscriber_id ,
    p_user => PORTAL.wwctx_api.get_user);
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    Like a result after 9.0.2.6 Portal Repository Upgrade Patch application we lost the possibility to edit user's
    profiles at Portal and other nesessary features. It seems
    like some portlet ID's just dissapeared from Portal scheme. Could anybody had the same problem with Portal Upgrade 9.0.2.6? Quite possible that we missed some important element at during upgrade but ,really, we didn't wait so unlucky result. Advice something, please...
    Regards. Igor.

    Igor,
    Since you've encountered undocumented errors, your repository upgrade has failed. You'll want to leave the repository as is for troublshooting, if at all possible, and log a TAR with support if you haven't already. They'll ask you to upload your upgrade log file and your upgrade tmp directory.
    Regards

  • Upgrade install problem Photoshop CS5 from CS2, MacOS 10.6.8

    Hello,
    My wife was using Adobe Photoshop CS2 for a long time.  We purchased a Photoshop CS5 upgrade in 2010 through Amazon, but she never installed it after reading about problems other people had with the upgrade.  It was still in its shrink wrap seal until last night.
    Then she recently went to upgrade her Mac laptop to 10.9 Mavericks from 10.6 Snow Leopard, and discovered that Photoshop CS2 will no longer work since CS2 was a PowerPC application.  No problem - we thought we'd just finally install that CS5 upgrade first.  The Amazon web page where we bought the product stated that this was a valid upgrade path, so we thought we would not have a problem.  However, when we went to do the install, we received an "Inconsistency in the installer database" error.
    Going to the support live chat, we were told by Yaseer that we could no longer upgrade from CS2 to CS5 because the CS2 "server" was shut down, and we should go to the forums for help with this instead.
    Now what?  We own a legal copy of PS CS2, and bought a legal upgrade copy of PS CS5 with the understanding that this was a legal upgrade path, purchased from a reputable dealer (Amazon), but now it doesn't work.  There must be something that can be done here.
    I'm not using my wife's Adobe id which she used to register her product, but I can provide that id as well as the serial numbers for CS2 and the CS5 upgrade.

    run the cleaner, http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
    restart your computer
    then try to install cs5.
    if you're prompted for a cs2 serial number and your cs2 number fails, use the one linked from this page:  http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/creative-suite-2-activation-end-life.htm l

    Hello,
    I’m having problems using the Upgrade tool, using the internal TFTP server try as I might I can’t persuade that there isn’t a firewall or ACL blocking TFTP:
    -          I’ve tried using v3.2 and v3.4
    -          I’ve tried using different machines
    -          I’ve turned off all firewalls and removed all ACLs from the APs
    -          I’ve traced the route across the network and can’t see any reason why any traffic would be blocked between the two
    -          I can confirm from the TACACS server that the upgrade tool is authenticating
    ===============================================================================================================
    Using the external TFTP Server I can’t persuade it to work as there seems to be a fault in the script that the upgrade tool tries to run, I’ve looked throught the log the important bit seems to be below where it tries to answer exit to a yes/no question:

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Have you try remove domain configuration on your autonomous ap? or just write erase and try again.

  • My Snow Leopard upgrade: zero problems, applications tested so far

    I upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6 from 10.5.8 on Macbook Pro 17" unibody (mid 2009) yesterday. I had cloned to external drive before upgrading. Installation went fine with no problems....took about 50 minutes.
    I've had zero problems. My printer's working fine (HP 5850), time machine/time capsule is working.
    Software I've tested so far: VMware Fusion 2.0.5, Parallels 4.0.3844, Adobe Creative Suite CS4 (Photoshop CS4, etc.), CIsco VPN client 4.9.01.0180, Microsoft Office 2008 Pro 12.2.1, Aperture, Adobe Lightroom 2.4, FireFox 3.5.2, Thunderbird 2.0.0.23, Canon Digital Photo Professional 3.6.2 (plus ImageBrowser, EOS Utility, etc.), iWork 09, FooBilliard, iPod Touch sync, X11 for remote X via XDMCP to linux Ubuntu 9.0.4.
    The new Microsoft Exchange 2007 support works really well. Mail automatically found my exchange server and authentication settings and it worked immediately. Really cool to see my outlook calendar appointments and contacts from work automatically populated into iCal via the new exchange support. It was really easy to setup.
    Thats about it. Everything does appear to be faster...especially Safari loading of web pages and Apple Mail too.
    I'm really pleased.

    I have had a (mostly) similar experience installing SL on my 15" MBP (Early 2008). I first installed on a cloned external drive to test and troubleshoot and then moved it to the main working drive.
    Printers working: HP Laserjet 2100 connected wirelessly to a remote Windows machine and Epson R280 via usb. (note: I can only use the Epson "lite" utility which is not quite as good as the previous utility under Leopard but it gets the job done).
    All my applications work except Nikon View NX v1.4 which will require an update from Nikon.
    As for hardware I will need a new driver from M-Audio before installing SL on my Mac Mini music server. My generic eSata express card 34 works much better under SL than under Leopard. Under Leopard hot plugging would freeze the OS and boot ups from an external drive attached to it often didn't work. No problem under SL.
    The only problem I seem to be experiencing right now under SL are more frequent tap-click freezes. Not sure this is a purely SL issue as it happened under Leopard as well. BTW, the way I unfreeze the tap-click is to go into system preferences and toggle the tap-click off and on; minor but annoying.

  • Mac mini upgrades causing problems?

    Hi, I had the RAM and hard drive in my mac mini (PowerPC) upgraded to 1GB DDR (PC2700), and a 100GB, 7200 RPM ATA6 Hitachi Hard drive. I reinstalled Mac OS 10.4 on the new drive. The machine runs, but it continually (at random intervals) freezes and displays the "Your computer muster be restared" window ... you know, the one with multiple languages. I ran the Apple Hardware test that came w/ the machine, and it passed .... so any ideas what's causing it to freeze?

    You're experiencing kernal panics, which are typically due to memory problems, often with memory that, while meeting Apple specs, just doesn't work well with the Apple architecture. Crucial, Kingston (not their valueram), and Samsung are 3 brands that are pretty consistent in working, and if you scan the discussions you'll find some other brands that work in the mini. I used Crucial when I upgraded to 1GB, and have had no issues.
    Other reasons that can cause kernal panics are discussed in http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.htmld
