OS X Lion issues with ImageMagick, qlmanage

The following might help other plugin authors who rely on ImageMagick or use OS X's "qlmanage" utility:
One of my plugins encountered some intermittent problems when users upgrade to OS X Lion:
- The ImageMagick program "composite", which was built and statically linked from a 2010 version of ImageMagick, would sometimes fail with the error message:
dyld: Library not loaded: /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenCL.framework/Versions/A/Libraries/libclparser.dylib
Googling showed that lots of people encountered this, and rebuilding from the latest version of ImageMagick fixed the problem.  No idea why it struck some Lion installations and not others.
- The Mac OS program "qlmanage" extracts Quick Look thumbnails into PNG files, and in Lion, it sometimes (but not usually) writes an ICC profile into the PNG metadata that Lightroom and Photoshop consider invalid (Lightroom provides an unhelpful message, but Photoshop is explicit).  I don't know if in fact it was invalid, since Safari, Firefox, and other Mac and Windows color managed programs don't complain about the profile.  The workaround for me was to strip the profile using the "-strip" option of ImageMagick.

Thanks for the "heads up" John.

  • Lion - Issues with MacBook Pro Keyboards

    I have a 17" early 2008 MacBook Pro. It's Intel Core Duo 2.
Since installing Lion, I seem to be having issues with its built-in keyboard, such as Command + C randomly not working on some apps, most recently Google Docs. But also with Bean and another text edit app I use.
Does anyone know if this issue will be addressed, maybe via a firmware update at some point for the older MacBook Pros?
    Thanks,
    Alisa

Well, if you are on the road you could try to do this:
    1. boot with the Alt key pressed
    2. select the recovery drive
    3. reinstall Lion
Hope you left a backup at home!
    Good luck...

  • OS X LION Issues with Full-Screen; iPhoto, Image Capture & Mail

    Hello,
I'm experiencing un-Apple-like issues (bugs) with Lion in Full-Screen mode.
For example - iPhoto doesn't seem to like Full-Screen mode. If iPhoto is open and I connect a camera, for which I prefer Image Capture to retrieve my pics... Image Capture opens 'behind' the full-screen iPhoto, but I can't get to it. Image Capture shows as open on the menu bar in iPhoto's full-screen mode. If I go to the desktop (where it should be opening) Image Capture isn't 'on top' and clicking it takes me back to iPhoto full-screen
Similarly, if I get mail and return to the desktop (the only way to see the dock) and I click on the 'Mail' app icon - I am catapulted into Image Capture... or iPhoto. Returning to the Desktop to click the Mail icon from the dock... takes me to Image Capture... or iPhoto. The 3rd try takes me to the Mail.app which is usually always open and in full-screen mode.
While I'm complaining about bugs, I'd like to mention that I am fully dismayed by the loss of control in full-screen mode when using apps such as Mail or iPhoto. The Mail app opens an email to edit (such as a reply) but you can't access any other mail docs to 'cut and paste' info from. I can only click SEND or CANCEL.
What if I don't want to CANCEL? I just want to go to another email and cut a piece to paste.. I have to exit full-screen mode which allows me to open two email documents at once, then cut and paste. Essentially Mail in Full-Screen is only a reader... not a work area. I can only access the document I have open, since it greys out the Message Viewer. You can't click on the message viewer nor access any of the features of Mail.app. You can only write your email and either Cancel or Send. Where is the 'hold on a second while I go cut and paste'? I don't want to cancel.
Can't seem to use Safari since I'm constantly three-finger swiping it away. My cursor hovers over a text field and suddenly it's zooming in and locks text input. I have to iPhone-like swipe to expand to exit this inadvertent partial (very slight) zoom. Sometimes the zoom is so partial that I can't figure out what's going on until I just exit full-screen mode, close the window and start over.
Seems like I'm starting over and over and over... just to do simple things. Inadvertent zooming, inadvertent 3-finger returning to Desktop, inadvertent changing apps... ugh.
I'm willing to let go of the old and embrace the new future but so far it's been pretty uncomfortable for me to constantly monitor my overly sensitive trackpad gesturing combined with constant bugs and glitches. I'll save complaining about iPhoto's over-simplification (apparently for dummies) like the new Edit menu, Export menu, etc.. since it's more iLife than Lion related. Rate Lion: 2 out of 5 stars for ease of use & features complicated by unrefined software issues.

I've tried follwoing these instructions but I have an issue with
    # Create snort user. The intention is to let user snort have access only to the snort database.
    $ sudo createuser -U _postgres -P snort
    Password:
    Enter password for new role:
    Enter it again:
Shall the new role be a superuser? (y/n) n
Shall the new role be allowed to create databases? (y/n) n
Shall the new role be allowed to create more new roles? (y/n) n
It keeps telling me "could not connect to database postgres: could not connect to server: No such file or directory"
I'm running OSX Mountain Lion, and have verified using serveradmin status postgres that it is up and running.

  • OS X Lion:issue with IPP printers

    Hi,
After upgrading to Lion 10.7.3, I am experiencing issue with the IPP printers at University.
After installing the printer (XEROX WorkCentre 7755) no passowrd box appear.
Is there any workaround for this?
    Thanks,
    Giovanni

Since IPP printing does not normally require a password to be entered, I would have to assume that this is a requirement of the printer and thus there will be a setting in the driver that allows you to enter your password. So have you checked all the driver menus for a section where you can enable a password popup.

  • Lion issues with 2007 macbook pro

I am considering upgrading to Lion from Snow Leopard.  I have a 2007 MacBook Pro.  Anyone have experience, especially with issues?

I would suggest you search these forums and find the answers you seek.  It's relatively quick and painless to do that.  Since Apple has a discrete number of hardware products, it's much easier for them to bring out a new operating system with a minimum of issues.  I wouldn't worry about it.

  • Mountain lion issue with download

I bought my macbook in late 2008 and i currently run the 10.6.8 and would like to upgrade to lion but it says i can't.  Why?

    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

  • Using Gmail through Mail in Mountain Lion - issue with inbox syncing across multiple machines

Hi. I am using Gmail through Mail in Mountain Lion on my iMac, as well as Mail in my iPad and iPhone. Generally speaking Mail seems to sync well across the three machines. However for some reason when I view an email in my inbox on either my iPhone or my iPad, the inbox on my iMac does not reflect the fact the email has been read: ie, while the email is marked as having been 'read' across both my iPad and iPhone, it remains 'unread' on my iMac. It is really frustrating and stuffs up the process managing the flow of emails. Is anyone able to help me please? Thanks so much.
    Best
    Jordan

Hi SB. Thanks for your advice. I checked and I am using the recommended settings. I'm still not sure how to fix this. It's very irritating! I will read an email on my ipad, then hit my imac and see that the email is sitting unread in my Mail inbox.

  • Issues with mountain lion upgrade

Has anyone had any issues when upgrading from snow leopard to mountain lion?
I upgraded on Sunday and since have had some issues with access to the Internet. The only way I can get it is by switching off wifi and back on again.
This is happening on both admin account and my sons profile. Though interestingly when I try and access the parental control panel for his account, I get some system errors.
Any help or support would be appreciated.

I also upgraded from Snow to Mountian.  I can bring up google search results but can't load any web pages.  My Mac Pro was working great with Snow never had any issues with internet.  Saw a post with a solution of disabling auto proxy but that doesnt work.  The only way I can load a web page is if I restart my Mac open up Safari then I can usually bring up one web page and then I can not load any more.  I cant connect to the App store either.  I dont know how I will be able to download a patch from Apple now.

  • Since the Mountain Lion OS update today I've had issues with internet connection and e-mail, has anyone else?

Since the Mountain Lion OS update today I've had issues with internet connection and e-mail, has anyone else?

That's what I would have thought, but even after saving the setting, as soon as I shut down my computer or log out of Mail, it automatically defaults back to 25. It's a bit frustrating.
Now I just need to figure out how to get rid of those horrible pop-up banners but still have my glass sound and number of emails in the red dot when I get an email...
These little tweaks are the only thing I HATE about upgrading my OS.

  • I just restored my 13" MBP i5 at the apple store to the newest version of Lion after issues with a previous Time Machine backup from Snow Leopard- this time I created a new account and just ported files and folders, and now MS Office doesn't work. Help?

I just restored my 13" MBP i5 at the apple store to the newest version of Lion after issues with a previous Time Machine backup from Snow Leopard- this time I created a new account and just ported files and folders, and now MS Office doesn't work.
^^ that's the main problem. Here's the full history.
I bought a new 13" i5 MBP, early 2011 edition. I had an old white Macbook 2.14 ghz core2duo on Snow Leopard. I attempted to port over my time machine backup, but encountered problems in that my User was inaccessible from the new computer after the import finished, and I had to go in and change the root password, etc, and for some reason or another, I couldn't install any programs at all from that administrator's account. By "couldn't" I mean I could install them, but upon installation they would never boot. So, I took it to the apple store and did a clean install from the most up to date Lion OSX. Then, I created a brand new admin account, instead of trying to import the old one, and things seemed great. Then, I just imported my old files from the TM backup, but not any system settings, permissions, or user data. Just my Docs, pics, vids, apps, and itunes stuff.
Here's where things get weird again. I imported this stuff under the name "old", but all of these folders have a red negative sign on them, marking them as restricted. So, from my main admin account, I cannot even peruse these folders. Since I didn't import user data, I can't sign in to the "old" account to change permissions. I already tried to change the permissions from system preferences, but that didn't change anything. And now, for whatever reason, of all the apps that were imported then, MS Office is the only set of apps that does not work. When I click on it, it just says there was a problem and asks if I'd like to send a report to apple. I tried reinstalling it to no avail. I'm an English student, so i really need access to Word. Can anyone help? The Apple store is a major detour for me and would like to fix this issue myself.

Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
    NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)

  • Tap to click not working properly in Mountain Lion. How do I get apple to fix this major issue with mountain lion?

The tap to click does not work with mountain lion as it did before the mountain lion install. I purchased a brand new imac in August of 2011 and got a wireless keyboard and selected the wireless trackpad instead of a mouse.  The trackpad worked wonderful pre upgrade with tap to click. Now after the install of the newest beast, I have to actually press the trackpad rather than a slight tap. I have carpel tunnel and this is causing great stress upon my hand. How do I get apple to fix this major issue with mountain lion?

Perhaps, I was not clear enough.
I have an imac purchased in Aug. 2011 which came with Lion 10.6 (two uprades before mountain lion)
Recently, I just purchased a macbook pro retina with Mountain Lion
On my imac, my settings allowed me to "tap to click" everything EXCEPT the initial log in at the star up of my imac, again running Lion 10.6
On my macbook pro retina which has Mountain Lion, I set up the "tap to click" option, but notice that a "hard" click was neccessary when trying to click things. I thought this was a macbook thing (my first one) so I went and upgraded my imac to Mountain LIon, BIG MISTAKE! Now both my imac AND my macbook only have limited "tap to click" options. Before mountain lion I could "tap" to highlight and select text, tap and drag, and many other thiings that Mountain Lion has disabled.
I am truly surprised that no one has noticed this MAJOR issue.
Is there a way to uninstall this update, similar to how on a PC you can go back to a restore point.
On another note even the way PREVIEW has changed is less user friendly, there used to be icons on the bottom right corner of the screen, now I have to double tap and select the option I would like to switch between contacts and thumbnails. This is really annoying and is causing me time when reviewing files.
Just in case anyone was wondering, I did go to system preferences -> trackpad -> select tap to click
In fact almost all of the trackpad functions have been selected.

My it guy has set all the Ricoh (The only brand of printers we use.) to enable Appletalk.  I am unable to see how to enable appletalk or an equivalent on Lion and have spent 3 hours now searching for it.  If I connect to the printer via TCP/IP it prints random characters.  I have a Ricoh working for another moddle but I am needing to use this machine.  HELP!!!!!

AppleTalk has been gone eons ago. Connect via USB and see what happens. If you are networking the printer then advise on your connection set up.

Since I've installed Mountain Lion, I am having lock up issues with multiple programs. MS Outlook has crashed and I've lost all my folders. HELP?

okay I've finally been able to get tor and all the other programs to work according to my plan the only thing that's still making problems is that iptables doesn't work as I want it to, when I start chromium without proxy settings privoxy doesn't seem to forward the information to polipo.. do I need to add another rule to iptables.rules in order for the program to know it has to reroute the information again or how can I get this to work? and is there any way to run rtorrent with proxy support?
anyway, problem 2 and 3 are still to be solved.
and does anybody know where i can get a good dansguardian blacklist that was not designed for 6 year old children and for which I don't need to subscribe? I'm still getting these partypoker popups -.-
//e: with iptables it's the same thing as described in the first post. https works, http doesnt. I get the output "Invalid header received from client." on http sites. still no idea why though.. (and the https-version of torcheck.xenubite says i'm tor unprotected while starting the browser with iptables)

The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion or Mountain Lion. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    System Requirements for 10.6:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.
You can upgrade direct from 10.6.8 to 10.8 Mountain Lion without going through 10.7 Lion with the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody. The Model 5,1 will probably run 10.9 Mavricks when it comes out.
10.8 Mountain Lion is a download from the App Store, the price is $19.99.
Mountain Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.8 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Mountain Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Mountain Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.
