Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have you upgraded from Tiger or from an older version of Leopard? I've seen many reports of people upgrading to Leopard from older OS X versions having to re-install iTunes after the upgrade to get it working again.

Did you buy your iPod Touch from a friend? If so it is very likely that the prior owner had jailbroken the iPod Touch without telling you. Try ensuring that you have the most up-to-date version of iTunes. Next try to plug in your iPod to your computer by way of usb cord. Then open iTunes and check whether your iPod is recognized. If it isn't recognized try navigating to "My Computer" under start and check whether your iPod appears as a removable device. If your iPod Touch is still not present then try putting your iPod Touch in DFU Mode and attempt to restore it.
iOS: Unable to update or restore
Placing your device into recovery mode
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
If all else fails please demand your money back from whoever sold you this iPod Touch.

  • Why wont my ipod touch let me download free apps? How can I fix it?

For some reason when i click to install an app it wont acctually do anything and i dont know what im doing wrong or whats going on with my ipod. HELP!

The app description includes a Compatibility section. Here is one for the FindMyiPhone app
Compatibility: Requires iOS 7.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.

  • Why wont my ipod touch sync with itunes, and how can I fix it

    Key Facts:
-I have an ipod touch (model number MC008LL)
-It's probably running the same iOS id did in the package
-It won't sync (and more importantly update to i0S5)
-It's not a failed/slow sync, the option to sync as well as all other options under "Devices" is Grayed out
    -I am running iTunes 11.0.4
-the Belkin cord I am using charges the ipod, and I think it was the one I used to sync it before.

You have a 3G iPod and those can go as high as 5.1.1.  What exactly happens when you connect the iPod to your computer and try to update via iTunes? You need iTunes 10,5 or higher on the computer.
After you get it updated see if syncs.

  • Windows 7 - USB Connection - Windows & iTunes can't see ipod Touch

    Hello there,
I've gone through the 5 Rs, and tried associated articles there to see what's going on, but basically...
My iPod touch has stopped wanting to sync with my Windows PC. Over the past two months, I've found iTunes hangs when connecting the ipod touch (just freezes, can't move the window, and then 'frees up' after about 60 seconds.)
The iPod is connected okay - it's charging - it's just neither iTunes nor Windows spot it's connected.
I've tried a variety of ports, cables, etc. I've even reinstalled windows on my PC (drastic, I know, but I was going round in circles, and that's the only thing I didn't have left to do!)
One interesting thing; I can see in the Device Manager that when I plug it in, the Apple Mobile Device driver DOES show in the USB Devices area; so on some level, Windows is spotting it is there - it's almost like it's doing an internal dialogue.
"Right then - Apple Mobile Device Driver, done. USB is receiving power, so I'm charging. And now... talk to the disk system in Windows and iTunes itself.... Nah, I'd rather do nothing."
Any other suggestions and behaviours? I've looked into my security software (but this would only effect iTunes, not the Windows level, plus remember, the driver is spotted and starting - it just isn't going any further...)

I haven't installed that hotfix yet, since it hasn't failed again just yet - no doubt it'll do so tomorrow though grins
Without a word of lie, one of the things that used to get me wondering about the nVidia thing was intermittency of the various symptoms. The way that you're not getting trouble all the time is what is keeping me wondering about it for you.
When I was doing a lot more troubleshooting of them, the other things I'd be seeing a lot (that I can recall off the top of my head) would be device timeout messages, "disk could not be read or written to" messages, and occasional blue screens. But that was back in the early version iTunes 9.x days, so the messages might have changed up a bit.
(Most brand name PC models with nVidia chipsets started shipping with the hotfix preinstalled after a while, and manufacturers like HP shoved links to it on their drivers and downloads pages to catch shipped units without the preinstalled hotfix. So it's a lot rarer nowadays. Tends nowadays to only catch folks with custom systems, or folks who've done Windows reinstalls and haven't caught up again on the hotfixes they've lost.)

  • Powerbook G4 wont see ipod!

Uhhhhg I just connected my ipod to my friend's macbook yesterday and put pictures on it through sync. He is running Leopard and I connected to his computer with usb. Now i go home and try to put the pics back on my Powerbook G4. I am running OS 10.4.11 and connecting through firewire....except my computer will no longer see my ipod! Why is this happening? The ipod is working fine on its own. I have reset it...computer still wont see it. Any suggestions?

Model No. MB029LL is an iPod classic. It does not have the chips inside to work with FireWire. It came with a USB docking cable. This is the symbol for FireWire
    !http://www.build-your-own-cheap-computer.com/images/firewire.jpg!
and this is the symbol for USB
    !http://www.geeks.com/techtips/2005/Images/icon_usb%5B1%5D.gif!
The symbol should be at the computer end of the docking cable.
If it did really work with FireWire, I have no explanation for how you managed to do it. All I know is that FireWire is not supported with the recent iPods. Therefore, you should get a USB docking cable, if you somehow do not have the one that came with that model iPod, and connect using USB. Hopefully, your PowerBook G4 is recent enough to have USB 2.0 ports.

  • HT2305 windows media player wont detect ipod touch

why wont windows media player detect my ipod touch

Because iPods will only work with iTunes. Your computer only sees an iPod Touch as a digital camera. What are you trying to do with your iPod?

  • Computer wont see ipod

i have had my ipod touch for 3 days now, it worked like a dream until last night, i tried to plug i back in to my computer because i just put some more CD's on here, and my computer isnt seeing the ipod. its not showing up in itunes, or "mycomputer". i have not plugged into any other computer. although i did plug into an ipod wall charger, which shouldnt have done anything. also, i bought stuff from itunes on the ipods wifi internet, so there are things i bought that arent on my computer. is it expecting me to only use that wifi itunes now? please help!

Its a shame that you are experiencing this within 3 days of your purchase of the iPod Touch. Before you do anything that I am about to recommend, Please ensure that you the latest version of iTunes on your Windows PC. The current version is 9.1.1.
Please refer to [*_This Article_*|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1852] by Apple to troubleshoot your listed issue.
The items that you bought on your iPod Touch through WiFi are still on your iPod and they need to be transferred to your iTunes via using the "Transfer Purchased items" option but only when iPod Touch is connected and recognized by iTunes.
If nothing works then take it back to Apple while it is under warranty and under 7 days to get it excanged.

  • [Support] OSX 10.5.5 update and iPod Touch

    Hi all!
Please see if you can help me out: I was running Tiger flawlessly. Recently I've upgraded to Leopard (10.5.1) using the official installation DVD. From this moment on iTunes no longer recognizes my iPod Touch. I can plug it in, the battery charges, but iTunes seems to ignore it.
Yesterday I've downloaded 10.5.5 update but am not able to install it. I get an error message: "You can't install Mac OS X update on this volume. This volume does not have the requirements, etc...". It's odd because I have 14Gb of disc available. What can I be doing wrong or not doing at all?
Thanks in advance for your support!

I tried to install with the "update system software" and an error message said I could not install in the "/" folder. I then went to Apples website and downloaded the update again and this time the error message says "You cannot install Mac OS X Update on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."
    Can someone help?

  • Itunes wont reckonize ipod touch

trying to restore and itunes wont reconize it

What is status of the iPod?
If it recognized the iPod before try:
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • ITunes doesn't see iPod Touch

I recently had to restore my Mac from Time Machine. Most things work fine, but iTunes does not see my iPod Touch. I'm not sure, but I think this backup was made just before I updated the Touch to iOS 4. I don't know if that would make a difference or not. Any ideas on how I can get these two talking again?

    Same problem on my MacBook:
    - iPod Touch directly connected to the Mac (built in USB port)
    - iTunes 8.02
    - iPod Touch 8 GB with Version 2.2
From one day to the other iTunes does not recognize the iPod. First messages says ".. you have to unlock the iPod..." then (when done) Error message "0xe8000001" appears.
Could not find a solution for me, even i found many users with Problem "0xe8000001" but the found hints do not help.
I tried to reinstall iTunes, but this does not helped.
The iPod is recongnized on an other (not my) Mac/iTunes - but I want to have it connected /synchronized on my Mac.
I can remember, that I runned some SW updates from apple (as I do every time when updates are displayed) in the same time when the error occured, but I can not say if this can be the reason.
My idea was to restore the iPod - but how to do this without iTunes?
    Any idea?
