Out Of Memory Error : unable to create new native thread

Hi Experts,
The details are given below -
1. Sun Java System Application Server 7
2. Java 1.4.2_05
3. Solaris 9 (OS)
4. RAM 8 GB
There are 3-4 applications deployed on this Sun Server 7. Some times we got "Out Of Memory" Error while displaying any jsp. Then we restart the Sun Server, the problem is resolved for some time.
This all is happening on production environment. We can not start the Sun Server again & again on production.
We have also set the java parameters as -Xms 3584M & -Xmx 3584M i.e 3.5 GB around.
If we change this parameter means less or more from 3584M, then our site becomes down.
Please help us out as soon as possible.

How do you expect anyone to give you a sensible answer to this? What server are you using to execute the JSP's? Tomcat? Is the code in the JSP causing the out of mem or is it a server related issue (unlikely...)?

Ok I see this problem all over the web but most of the posts are many years old and still leave me a little confused. Often at random times on the same tags like CFLDAP I get the error "Unable to create new native thread". Then a few minutes later the same tag on the same page works just fine.
I have 4GB of memory in this box with 1400 MB set as the maximum Java heap size by the way.
Here are my arguments from the jvm.config file.

Absolutely unbelievable that this has been going on for 4 YEARS and there are still NO definitive answers from Adobe!!
There's no definite answer from Adobe, because there's no definitive single question. These errors come up because - for any number of possible reasons - the JVM becomes overloaded. And it's almost always down to an issue with the application code being run, and nothing to do with CF, per-se. So what's Adobe supposed to do? Come and fix your application for you? There are plenty of diagnostic tools out there - some built into CF itself - which you could use to sort the problem out. Or you could hire someone like Mike Brunt to come and have a look at your set up. All it takes to fix these things is to actually do something about fixing it, rather than slamming one's fist on the desk saying "why doesn't Adobe do something!"
I thought - and my knowledge in the area isn't expansive - the inability to allocate threads was down to the app being choked up: threads are a finite commodity, and if requests are queuing up faster than the JVM can clear them, you're gonna get errors eventually. What causes this sort of thing? More traffic than the server can process. This could be because of server kit, or it could be due to code that doesn't scale to the requirement. Usually the latter. Basically one cannot polish a turd.
I have a 24x7 production server that services 180,000 clients in 300 countries around the clock that cannot afford to be down for more than a few minutes at a time.
I'm running Windows 2008 32-bit with 4GB of RAM because I have some graphics software that cannot tolerate a 64-bit OS. Everything has been running fine for the past few months, but now it's starting to crash more and more frequently. I have CF 8.0.1.195765 and Java 1.6.0_04
How many concurrent requests for 180000 clients generate? The number of clients matters less than how heavily the site is used. But, to be honest, I get the impression the implication is "it's a busy site", in which case I think your hardware is a bit on the lean side. Also, if it's a mission-critical app, running it on a single server is probably ill-advised, just from a fault-tolerance perspective even before one starts thinking about performance.
If I was in your situation, I'd consider the following options:
* upgrade your JVM to the most recent version (1.6.0_21?)
* put more RAM in the box, and run a second CF instance on it.
* get another box.
* refactor the environment so the graphics software runs on a different box, upgrading the CF server to 64-bit (again, with more RAM)
* run some diagnostics on the server, seeing what's taking up threads and where any bottlenecks might be
* get an expert in to do the analysis side of things.
* stop expecting Adode to fix "something".
One of my other symptoms I have noticed is that any work done using RDP starts getting really really bogged down. Opening Windows Explorer and searching for files can take minutes. Restarting the CF service will sometimes fail to complete, and you have to wait a few minutes before the manual Start option appears in the dropdown. Maybe coincidentally, the Performance Monitor will fail to add any of the ColdFusion metrics, for example Running Requests and Queued Requests, and the Event Monitor shows an error relating to an 8-byte boundary not being maintained.
You don't, by any chance, store your client variables in the registry do you? The only time I've seen this happen is when the CF box is munging the OS environment, and the only way I can think this could happen if it was clogging the registry. Never store client variables in the registry.

Java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: unable to create new native thread on Win2000

Dear all,
I install a java server (SAP J2EE) on the windows machine and run into the following problem: the total number of threads cannot exceed 1200 (as i see this in the task manager)
After it does reach this number no other tasks can be started. Thereafter i get java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: unable to create new native thread error .
However the other machine where the same distribution of Win2000 Server is installed can easily coupe with more than 2500 theads. The same is true when the safe mode on the first machine is on: I can generate more than 1200 threads. So it seems the problem has something to do with Windows itself.
I am really puzzled here, would really appreciate any help.

well, i do not supply any options when i start jvm, but it is not the course:
it also happens with c programs. however in the safe mode it works. both for c and for java program.
so it must be either some software (however memory is ok) or ...? i am lost. In some Unix system you can set the total number of threads allowed as an option in the kernal. But i guess this is not the case with windows.

This only tells you that the JVM is running out of heap space. It doesn't tell you what is causing the problem. You likely have a memory leak, but you could also try increasing the max heap size of the JVM (-Xmx command line option). It would help to watch the % mem in use statistic, but only immediately after a garbage collection cycle (you can force a GC from the admin console). If the % mem in use after the GC is increasing over time, then that likely confirms you have a memory leak. Note that looking at that statistic during the server startup probably is irrelevant. You'd need to wait until the server finishes starting up, and likely processed a few messages (to load static data).
If you get to the point of confirming that you have a memory leak, that requires doing detailed analysis with a Java profiler (JProfiler, JProbe, YourKit, etc.) to track down the source of the leak.

Java out of memory error/ unable to create VM

As you can imagine I have been trying to fix this on my own.
I have changed the Java heap size by changing the JVM Settings in the Application Server to
-Xms128m -Xmx528m
However, my domain.XML file is still showing the following options:

The only place that this (1g) jvm-options is showing is in the domain.XML read only file.
Can anyone please tell me how to change domain.XML since that 1g goof-up is causing runtime errors. It can probably be done programatically, but I am almost brain dead from this problem now - so you can imagine my state of mind.

FTP error-Unable to create new pooled resource: com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ft

Hi,
We have a scenario where XI receives a Idoc and based on the contents of Idoc, It will generate 5 different files and send it to the external FTP server.We configured 5 receiver channels for these 5 files.
When this interface runs, most of the files will be delivered but some of the messages will be errored out.
The receiver channel has shown the following error-
Message processing failed. Cause: com.sap.aii.af.ra.ms.api.RecoverableException: Error when getting an FTP connection from connection pool: com.sap.aii.af.service.util.concurrent.ResourcePoolException: Unable to create new pooled resource: com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx
I tried to resend them by temperorily stopping other channels to reduce connections to this FTP server.But these messages again resulted with same error.
Can someone suggest what might be the cause for this error.

As I am not sure about the problem so U just try all of the option I am writing below. It may help u as these are the probable solutions for this problem.
1.perform Full CPA cache refresh using PIDIRUSER
2.The problem seems to be in establishing the connection with the File server . This could be due to
a. Wrong user name or password in receiver adapter .
b. Firewall connection are not open
actually you are saying that some files are being delivered so all the file has to be deliverd on same server on diffrent directory or all files are going on diffrent server at present I am assuming that all files are going on diffrent server so please check UID & PWD properly.if they are on same server but diff. directory it can be easily done using one Communication channel only.
3. Finally please check the errorneous communication channel .
to check your communication channels are working fine or not you can check in channel monitoring in PI7.0, adapter monitoring in Xi3.0.
if you are on PI7.0, goto RWBCache monitoring select AE and cilck disply-select the date todays--check everything is greent here
4.Please check your maximal connection pool .

Out of Memory error on database Create

Have installed 9i on Sun Solaris, and when I try and create a database I alwys get
27102 - Out of memory error. I am selectng General Database from the dbca choices
and take all the defaults. I tried removing options but still get the same error.
The machine has 2GB Ram .

Out of Memory Error - Unable to Open UIR in CVI

I have a 38 MB UIR that I cannot open (I didn't create it, a colleague did) in CVI 8.0.1. I would like to edit it to reduce the size of the images within, but that requires the UIR to open first. I keep getting an error "Cannot open user interface resource file ... (Out of memory)". I've tried defragging my hard drive and increasing the virtual memory and rebooting. I have also tried to use the code converter to write the UIR to a *.c file, but I get the same error. I have a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 machine with Win XP and 1 GB of RAM. I cannot submit the file because it has proprietary information in it. Before I try to re-create the file from scratch, is there any other solution possible?

I do not have much idea on your problem. Just a wild guess:
In the machine you could open the UIR, can you try to convert it to a text-UIR and move that file to your machine.
Maybe yours can open the text version, so you can edit it and save as a lower size file.

Is data dource configured to ABAP? then create in abap system such that users will be visible into portal.

CR XI - "Out of memory" Error

I have a report which has group sort all with totals for first certain number of accounts and hide the rest giving a total of displayed, hidden and a grand total, and when i run this report i am running into "Out of memory error" aprrox 4715K records now

In this case, the java.lang.OutOfMemoryError is caused by excessive threads being created. There are various reasons why the number of threads is excessive.
The more memory you give to the JVM the more likely you are to get java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: unable to create new native thread
To create more threads you have to reduce the memory allocated to the JVM.

Use the lsof -p PID command (Unix® platforms) to see how many threads are active for this process.
Determine if there is a maximum number of threads per process defined by the operating system. If the limit is too low for the application, try raising the per-process thread limit.
Examine the application code to determine if there is code that is creating threads or connections (such as LDAP connections) and not destroying them. You could dump the Java threads to see if there are an excessive number has been created.
If you find that too many connections are opened by the application, make sure that any thread that the application creates is destroyed. An enterprise application (.ear) or Web application (.war) runs under a long-running JVM. Just because the application is finished does not mean that the JVM process ends. It is imperative that an application free any resources that it allocates.

WS 6.1SP5 gives error "unable to create native threads"

We are using AM7.0 on Sun Java Web Server 6.1 SP5. This is running on T2000 with 8 GB RAM on Solaris 10. We have implemented all the recommendations given by amtune script except Stack Size (-Xss128K). amtune recommends Stack Size of 128K. But our Web Server doesn't run with 128K. We had to bump it up to 192K.
After some time in our load test, we get following error in our logs:

The error happens when the LWPs of the process goes beyond 500. In our load testing the server is getting hit 2000 requests per minute.
I will reduce the mx and ms size, in the mean time, if you can take a look at any other thing that I need to do.
One more thing, from where the native threads get allocated? (Heap/Perm/somewhere else)

There is a certain limit for a number of threads that
JVM can create. This limit depends on the OS and JVM
options. You can try using XX:PermSize and
-XX:MaxPermSize options as well as lowering -Xms and
-Xmx options.

Out of memory error in migrating from mysql to oracle

Hi,
I'm trying migrate from mysql to oracle9i. The hardware and software requirements are matching or even much higher than mentioned in the documentation. I have installed OMWB is properly(hope so). When I try to migrate the desired database from mysql to oracle, the repository, the Oracle model are created successfully. But while migrating data, say for around 35000 rows insertion everything works pretty fine. But after sometime, the migration stops and no error or anything appears in the screen.And in the Errorlog I get "OutOfMemoryError".
I tried to migrate single table also. But I still get this problem after sometime. The tables may contain from 10 - 130000 rows...
I even tried to change the %JRE..% memory value to 64M or 128M in the omwb.bat file and the O/s is Microsoft Windows XP, RAM 256MB.
Any help is much appreciated.

did the message in the error.log provide any extra information? For example, was the OutOfMemory error prefixed with a string
like "cannot create new native thread" ? My suggestion to workaround the problem would have been to increase the JVM heap size to 128
but this appears to have been unsuccessful for you. Can you send a mail to the Migration Workbench support services
([email protected]) explaining the problem, and attach the full error.log file please ? (please also copy me on the mail).
In the meantime, you can workaround this by migrating the schema only (there is a switch on step 3 of the migration wizard asking:
"Do you want to migrate the table data to Oracle?" - just select the "No" option). When the schema has migrated, you can then use the
offline data loading facility to migrate the data. This uses data extraction scripts and SDQL*Loader to migrate the data to the target
Oracle database.You can learn more about the offline data loading facility from the plugins referenceguide (from the Help menu in
the Migration Workbench).

I have done both. When I hold down the "C" key it pauses for a few seconds while the cd spins and then the flashing folder icon appears.
Could be you have the wrong cd/dvd. The mac will only boot a supported cd/dvd for your machine. The flashing question mark indicdates your machine could not find a valid os.
When I hold down the "option" key for the startup manager the cursor comes up and moves but the actually manager doesn't come up no matter how long I leave the laptop on.
Not sure. Could be your machine does not support the startup manager. You would think the machine would ignore the key.
Where did you get the dvd? What is the number on the DVD?
What machine do you have anyway?

Runtime error and unable to create new web application

There could be many reason like IIS issue, Space issue, Permission issue, SQL issue which is not possible us to guess rather
you need to jump in the SharePoint log(Program Files\Common files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS) and find out the specific error log its throwing after which trouble shoot can be start.

I am trying to add Form Value item to the Message Component Layout region through personalization.
I am getting error Unable to create a new Message Layout: 500 attempts failed.
While I am able to add Message Text Input, Message Lov Input items without any issue.
Same issue will appear if I add stack layout region.
The requirement is to add two hidden field to a Oracle supplied Message Component Layout Region( Page /oracle/apps/pa/finplan/webui/UpdateForecastLinePG
region UpdateResourceAssignmentRN.FinSumFieldsRN)
Please help me any work around or solution.

Jdeveloper is allowing to add the messageLayout bean to messageComponentLayout (I have just tested it). It means OA Framework is facilitating it, it is the personalization Framework which may have restriction.
