Output a global variable to RS232 module

Hello!
I am new in using DASYLab and I find it very interesting, though I have
this problem: I want to control the velocity of a stepper motor by
ajusting the value  of a global variable and send it to the RS232
output module. The problem is that I dont know the output format of
this variable. How is the sintax of the output?
Many thanks
Miguel Neto

Attached you can find a "complex" example: The worksheet controls via RS232 a small electric engine. The engine understands three commands with format "<cmd><number>", eg. "F500" (set frequency to 500Hz), "D100" (set duty cycle to 10%), and "V450" (set voltage to 4.5V). That "450" means "4.5V" was hardcoded into the hardware.
Note how the values from the sliders are send indirectly to the hardware: first, the value is stored in a global variable. The value are now modified "behind the scenes" by calculating a global string (see attached image). If that string content changes, the action modules send that string via RS232 output module to the hardware.
The calculation of the string is necessary to get rid of the decimals after the comma.
Rename the file rs232_example._zip to rs232example.zip (remove underscore), because the NI forum is unable to recognize the ZIP file created with 7zip app... :/

  • Global vairable in Function module

    Hello Friends,
    How to declare a global variable in function module, other than declaring in Function group/data section of function module.
    Regards
    Elini.P

    Hi Elini,
    You can declare the global data after the ENDFUNCTION statement in your function module if you wish, or you can include your own include in the TOP include.
    Actually you can declare global data just about anywhere in your function group as long as its not in between statments like FORM ENDFORM or FUNCTION ENDFUNCTION.
    I agree with Anand, though, why?
    Cheers,

  • Alternate For Global Variables.

    I am working on Forms6i in Payroll System.
    I have around 300 common global variables in my Module. When I switch over from one form to another, The variables stored in the previous Form are replaced by the new Form.
    When I Come back to oldone form. I have faced Errors. How can I Solve This problem ?
    I tried by using Local Parameters. It works but my forms will be bulky. I Could I solve this problem. Reply Urgently,
    Thanks For Co-ordination.

    Hi,
    What u can do is have Package Variables.
    These Pkg can be created on the Oracle Server and can be used by the form.
    U'r case of Global variable is unique.

  • Function module Global variables not cleared from memory?

    Hi,
    This is may be simple & stupid question ( after posting  4242 posts ):)
    " Declaration in TOP
    data : begin of i_y1yatt occurs 0.
            include structure y1yatt.
    data : end of i_y1yatt.
    types: begin of t_yatt71.
           include structure yatt71.
    types: tcode like sy-tcode.
    types: dflag type c.
    types: end of t_yatt71.
    data : i_yatt71 type standard table of t_yatt71
                   with default key  with header line  initial size 0.
    This is code in the function module.
      loop at i_y1yatt.
        move-corresponding o_y1yatt to i_yatt71.
        if i_y1yatt-werks eq 'N501'.
           move space to i_yatt71-werks.
        endif.
        append i_yatt71.
        " Here this internal contains the previous entry
        clear i_yatt71.
      endloop.
    This function module is called 25 times in a minute.
    My problem is this
    For example : 1st tranmission is called this fm with 50 records,
    and 2nd tranmission is called fm with 10 records.
    My results are showing
    last record in the 1st transmission is still on the memory while calling 2nd transmission.  ( Here in int table I_YATT71 still contains the 1st transmission's last records during the 2nd tranmission call)
    As per my knowledge if each time calls comes in to fm all gloabl variables get cleared. but some how this not happening.
    Anybody come across this scenario.
    PS. I know i need to use clear statement within the loop as first statement.

    You must understand that when calling a FM, you load the entire function group into memory. IF there are global variables, then they are "alive" for the entire duration of the program execution. Meaning if you call the function numerious times, or even if you call another function within the same function group, the functions still have access to that same global variable space, so it must always be cleared manually by the developer at the required points.  You can not rely on the runtime to clear the global variables at the end of the function call.  So you should clear all you globals as the first operation in your function module call, if that is what is required.
    Is this clear?

  • Can the output of a Generate Occurrence be passed in Local/Global Variable?

    Can the output of a Generate Occurrence function, which is a refnum, be passed in Local/Global Variable so that it does not need to be wired to all parties directly?
    Can more than one party be waiting on the same Occurrence and will all waiting function be released together?

    I am not worried about whether it is bad form or not, as yet. That is for me to decide on a case by case basis.
    Yikes! That is not a very good way to learn.
    Anyways, to avoid any more bold emphasis on words, I will answer your question. Locals can only be linked to controls/indicators not individual wires. If you want to get the effect of a local/global variable with a wire value, search the forum for action engines or functional globals. Those will work for passing a wire value between threads.
    That said, what are you trying to use occurences for? There may be (and probably is) a more accepted way to implement what you are trying to do instead of using local variables

  • How to Set multiple Global Variables without using Controls or Indicators

    I have to set many Global Variables (i.e. declare and initialize them) in a subVI in order to pass them to various other subVI's. The only way I know how to do it in LabView is to create a Globals.vi on which you create a control or indicator for EACH Global Variable. That's fine if you have only a few variables. But I have close to a hundred Global Variables (which come from a configuration file for a large program) and clearly it is impractical and cumbersome to create a control for each global variable. In Agilent Vee, there is a simple function called "Set Variable" that sets the data value of a global variable. Then in other module, you simply use the "Get Variable" function to get back the v
    ariable and its value.
    In LabView you can use the "Invoke Node / Set Control Value" and "Get Control Value" properties to achieve the same thing. But as mentioned above, you need to create a control for each global variable and that is a big pain in my case, with many global variables. Furthermore, the global variables are read from a Configuration Text File to this VI. Is there a way to do it without using the control? Thank you in advance for any help.

    Actually you could create the same sort of facility in LV. All you have to do is create a LV2-style global that behaves as follows:
    To write a value to it, you supply a value name and the value. These pieces of data are save internally in seperate arrays.
    To read a value, you supply a value name. The VI looks up this name in the value name array to return an index into the value array. Output the value you find.
    Frankly though, it sounds like what you really need is not hundreds of globals, but a good way to manage configuration data.

  • Java Threads vs. Native Global Variables

    A brief description of the problem:
    I am trying to integrate a multi-threaded Java app with legacy Fortran code. The Fortran code in question makes extensive use of global variables in the form of Fortran's Common Block data structure.
    If multiple threads were allowed access to a native routine, they would over write each others data which is stored in global variables.
    If only one thread at a time can have access to the native routine for the duration of the native routine, the whole advantage of using threads is completely nullified.
    These native routines cannot be rewritten (3rd party code) and must be used.
    One solution I envisioned was to load a new copy of the native shared object code for each Java object that used the native code. However, it seems System.loadLibrary() can only be used in a static context.
    Is there any known solution to this problem?

    Here is an elaboration on the earlier suggestions. It's a high overhead solution, because you have to start a bunch of JVMs.
    1. You have a java control program, which will start up a pool of "services", make requests to them, and gather the results.
    2. Each service is a small java program with a native method:
    o java communications front-end.
    o native method declaration.
    o native - in your case fortran - method implementation.
    3. Each service is started using "exec". That puts it in a separate process.
    4, Since each service is a java program, you can use java to do communications between the control program and the service.
    o You could use RMI.
    o You could - perhaps - use java Process communications, i.e., have the services write to stdout, and have the control program capture the output.
    o You could use socket communications.

  • Unit Testing and APEX Global Variables

    We've recently started to unit test our database level PL/SQL business logic.
    As such we have a need to be able to simulate or provide output from PL/SQL APEX components in order to facilitate testing of these components.
    Some of the most obvious portions that need simulation are:
    1. The existence of a session
    2. The current application ID
    3. The current page ID.
    We currently handle requirement #1 by using apex_040100.wwv_flow_session.create_new
    We handle 2 and 3 using the apex_application.g_flow_id and g_flow_step_id global variables.
    I'm just wondering, how safe is it for us to use wwv_flow_session.create_new to simulate the creation of a session at testing time for those things which need a session?
    I've also noticed that there are apex_application.get_application_id and apex_application.get_page_id functions whose output is not tied to the global variables (at least in our current version).
    Is it safe for us to expect that we can set these global variables for use in testing or is apex moving to get_application_id and get_page_id functions away from global variables?
    Will there be corresponding set_application_id and set_page_id functions in the future?
    Sorry for the question bomb. Thanks for any help.

    My first question would be why do you need to establish a session to test your PL/SQL?
    wwv_flow_session is a package internal to APEX, and you should probably leave it be.
    The get_application_id procedure you refer to is in apex_application_install, which is used for scripting installation of applications - not get/set of page ID like you're describing.
    If you're uncomfortable using apex_application.g_flow_id, you can use v('APP_ID') or preferably pass the app_id/page_id as parameters to your procedures.
    Your question seems to have a few unknowns, so that's the best I can describe.

  • Loading a text file into a global variable issue - really a global var?

    From all the documentation and examples I can find, it appears that it would be
    correct to create a global array variable [outside of any functions] to load image names into,
    then use these images for a slideshow. I want to make the app dynamic, in that changing the text file gives a new set of images.
    The global variable goes null [no values] after the load event listener. Why is that?
    Isn't global, well global, and alive for the duration of the SWF?

    How do I access these values after loading from the external file, after the load?
    Thanks in advance.

    The statement you quoted from whatever Adobe documentation is correct.
    If you want to load the data into the arrays before anything else happens, then have anything else that happens execute via the completeHandler function... after the data is loaded and processed into the arrays.
    the command: loadFile() executes before the trace("2:" +images[4]); command.  The loadFile function is processed and the loading process BEGINS... but starting the loading does not delay the main processing from continuing down the line--the loading itself becomes a secondary/background task.  The command was to execute the loadFile function and the processing of that function was completed.  If you don't believe so, then add a trace...
    function loadFile():void
         vars.dataFormat = URLLoaderDataFormat.VARIABLES;
         vars.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onComplete, false, 0, true);
         vars.load(new URLRequest("images/fnames.txt"));
         trace("started loading");
    If you add that trace, you should see that the loadFile function execution is completed and the next line in your code is then processed... trace(2....)
    The addEventlistener does not stop anything.  The addEventListener code is assigning a monitor, not a traffic controller... it is telling the monitor to indicate when the data has finished loading.  It is not telling anything to stop program execution.
    So if you want to wait until the data is loaded before you do anything else... it goes....
    function onComplete(evt:Event):void
         var urlVars:URLVariables = evt.target.data;
         images = vars.data.images.split(",");
         tnails = vars.data.thumbnails.split(",");

  • How do you override global variable values when calling oraxsl or xsl.exe?

    I am a newbie to oracle xslt.
    I have down loaded the latest version of xdk (10.1.0.2...). (Jan 2, 2009).
    In the past I haveI used micorsoft's "msxsl.exe" to perform my transformations.
    I am looking for a more up-to-date transformation tool.
    I found Oracle's version, and thought I would try it out.
    I have run the "bin/xsl.exe -hh" command.
    I read its help data. It states that variables are
    passed by coding a pramater "-V <var> <value>".
    I have also examined the oraxls.bat file.
    I found the documentation on "oracle.xml.parser.v2.oraxsl" class.
    It states that parameters are passed after the "-p" switch.
    It says the value of the -p parameter is "a list of paramemters".
    I don't find this sufficient information to be useful.
    I can spend days guessing, and I might get lucky.
    I thought it my be better to ask for help.
    I need to pass in (override) values for 3 global variables.
    I saw the method
    "setParam(namespace, variable, value)",
    near the documentation for the "oraxsl" class.
    How do you format the options string to communicate more than one param statement?
    (in either xsl.exe and/or oraxsl class).
    Suppose I have an xslt stylesheet as follows:
    ==================================================
    <?xml version="1.0" ?>
    <xsl:stylesheet version="1.1" xmlns:xsl='http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform' >
    <xsl:param name='a' select='"default_a"' />
    <xsl:param name='b' select='"default_b"' />
    <xsl:param name='c' select="'default_c"' />
    <xsl:template match='/'>
    this is value for a: <xsl:value-of select='$a' />
    this is value for b: <xsl:value-of select='$b' />
    this is value for c: <xsl:value-of select=$c' />
    <xsl:apply-templates />
    </xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>
    ========================================================
    Now as part of the calling of the XSL processor I want to change the value of these
    three global parameters.
    I want:
    a="current_a",
    b="current_b",
    and c="current_c"
    How do I express this using xsl.exe and its paramter string (-V ????).
    and/or how do I express it to the oraxsl class ( -p (xsl, a,"current_a"), (....) )???
    The syntax for specifying this information is not very clear in either situation.
    Of course I am making the "assumption" that by "param" they are
    refering to "global parameters" (as in my stylesheet), rather than some other global parameters of XLST.
    As an aside inquiry:
    I had hopped that the Oracle's xsl Verion 2 routine could handle xslt 2.0 commands
    such as "xsl:for-each-group", since it handled multiple xsl:outputs.
    From reading some of the documentation it seems it only handles xslt 1.0 syntax/commands.
    Is this true? (or is the documentation not up-to-date?).
    Any help on passing param values to xsl.exe and/or "oraxsl" class is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Here is the line from one of my testing .bat files that passed in one parameter. I can't recall if I've passed in two, but this will give you a starting point for passing in multiple
    java -cp %CPath% oracle.xml.parser.v2.oraxsl -p show_image='yes' %ValXML% %ValXSLT% As for XSLT 2.0 support, it appears it does per {thread:id=503445}

  • How to Use Transient View Objects to Store Session-level Global Variables

    hi
    Please consider section "40.8.5 How to Use Transient View Objects to Store Session-level Global Variables"
    at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/web.1111/b31974/bcstatemgmt.htm#ADFFD19610
    Based on this documentation I created the example application
    at http://www.consideringred.com/files/oracle/2010/ProgrammaticalViewObjectAndRollbackApp-v0.01.zip
    It behaves as show in the screencast at http://screencast.com/t/qDvSQCgpvYdd
    Its Application Module has a Transient View Object instance "MyEmployeesContextVOVI", as master for the child View Object instance "EmpInCtxJobVI".
    On rollback the Transient View Object instance keeps its row and attribute values.
    Also when passivation and activation is forced (using jbo.ampool.doampooling=false ) the Transient View Object instance seems to keep its row and attribute values.
    questions:
    - (q1) Why does the expression #{bindings.MyEmployeesContextVOVIIterator.dataControl.transactionDirty} evaluate as true when a Transient View Object instance attribute value is changed (as shown in screencast at http://screencast.com/t/qDvSQCgpvYdd )?
    - (q2) What would be a robust approach to make a Transient View Object instance more self-contained, and manage itself to have only one single row (per instance) at all times (and as such removing the dependency on the Application Module prepareSession() as documented in "5. Create an empty row in the view object when a new user begins using the application module.")?
    many thanks
    Jan Vervecken

    Thanks for your reply Frank.
    q1) Does sample 90 help ? http://blogs.oracle.com/smuenchadf/examples/
    Yes, the sample from Steve Muench does help, "90. Avoiding Dirtying the ADF Model Transaction When Transient Attributes are Set [10.1.3] "
    at http://blogs.oracle.com/smuenchadf/examples/#90
    It does point out a difference in marking transactions dirty by different layers of the framework, "... When any attribute's value is changed through an ADFM binding, the ADFM-layer transaction is marked as dirty. ...".
    This can be illustrate with a small change in the example application
    at http://www.consideringred.com/files/oracle/2010/ProgrammaticalViewObjectAndRollbackApp-v0.02.zip
    It now shows the result of both these expressions on the page ...
    #{bindings.MyEmployeesContextVOVIIterator.dataControl.transactionDirty}
    #{bindings.MyEmployeesContextVOVIIterator.dataControl.dataProvider.transaction.dirty}... where one can be true and the other false respectively.
    See also the screencast at http://screencast.com/t/k8vgNqdKgD
    Similar to the sample from Steve Muench, another modification to the example application introduces MyCustomADFBCDataControl
    at http://www.consideringred.com/files/oracle/2010/ProgrammaticalViewObjectAndRollbackApp-v0.03.zip
    public class MyCustomADFBCDataControl
      extends JUApplication
      @Override
      public void setTransactionModified()
        ApplicationModule vApplicationModule = (ApplicationModule)getDataProvider();
        Transaction vTransaction = vApplicationModule.getTransaction();
        if (vTransaction.isDirty())
          super.setTransactionModified();
    }Resulting in what seems to be more consistent/expected transaction (dirty) information,
    see also the screencast at http://screencast.com/t/756yCs1L1
    Any feedback on why the ADF Model layer is so eager to mark a transaction dirty is always welcome.
    Currently, question (q2) remains.

  • Can LabVIEW global variables be shared between UUT sequence steps in the parallel sequence model?

    Sorry for this simple question,  I'm having a hard time finding this answer.
    If I launch a sequence to run on two UUTs in the parallel sequence module,   can I get both UUTs to run LabVIEW vis that use global variables such that :
    1) UUT 0  executes 20 LabVIEW Vi  steps asynchronously,  5 of which access data from LabVIEW global variables A, B, C (Strings)
    2) UUT 0 executes the same 20 LabVIEW based steps asynchronously  5 of which access data from then same LabVIEW global variables A, B, C (Strings)
    I am a little worried that using file globals may have some delays or more of a race condition than using native LabVIEW global variables like in a single labview application perform.
    QUESTION 2:  Are file globals actually written to the hard drive and shared between parallel sequences through file transfer?  OR  are they in memory?
    Brad Whaley
    LabVIEW Certified Engineer

    Hi bdwhaley,
    Are your parallel sequences only reading from the global variable? Or are they writing to the variable as well? If it is just reading, then you should be okay. File globals are read from memory. Every time they are read, a copy of the data is made in memory.

  • Global Variables in Flash CS4 (AS3) ?

    Hi,
    I  have another problem with my new project and I am looking to get answers for these two question:
    1.) Is there a way to define a global variable which can be accessed inside and movie clip or button? (where do you define it? is it changeable? can you pass it in by reference?)
    2.) If i have my main stage with some actionscript and a movie clip which has also some action script, IN WHICH ORDER does it execute?
    Thank you in advance for any help and tips!

    Thank you this is what i needed I got it to work now!
    But I do still have one last question on this topic.
    This is the Code:
    //this is in a file Actionscript File called glo.as
    package{
         public class glo{
              public static var widthOfSlider:Number = 5;
    // This code is in scene 1 > my_mc
    import glo;
    trace(glo.widthOfSlider);
    //This code is in scene 1 > my_mc > myNext_mc
    import glo;
    var numOfCovers = 6;
    var temp = glo.widthOfSlider;
    trace(glo.widthOfSlider);
    this.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, centerB);
    function centerB(event:Event):void{
         for(var i = 0; i < numOfCovers ; i++ ){
              this["cover_btn_"+String(i)].y = 0;
              this["cover_btn_"+String(i)].x = temp;
              temp += this["cover_btn_"+String(i)].width + 5;
         glo.widthOfSlider = temp;
         trace(glo.widthOfSlider);
         this.removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, centerB);
    When I run this I get the following output:
    5
    5
    5
    725.45
    725.45
    The first "5" is from the trace(glo.widthOfSlider); in scene 1 > my_mc
    The next two "5"'s are from the trace(glo.widthOfSlider); in scene 1 > my_mc > myNext_mc
    Is there a way so that I can first execute the code in scene 1 > my_mc > myNext_mc before the code in scene 1 > my_mc ?
    I am trying to get 725.45 through the trace(glo.widthOfSlider); in scene 1 > my_mc

  • Passing Global Variable in Sql Object

    Hi
    How can i pass my global variable into SQL object? I tried to pass it but then I tried to update the schema it giving me the error at varble
    Please advise me

    The Update schema is used only to get the structure for the Output.
    Once you have a valid structure and the SQL Parses without any variables use the syntax for applying variables as in any Script within DI.
    $GV_MyVar enclosed within square brackets will be replaced by Value of the variable.
    $GV_MyVar enclosed within curly brackets will be replaced by Value of the variable enclosed in single quotes.
    When the job runs, the variables will be replaced with values OR values with quotes. It is at this time, the SQL send to the database is validated for syntax.
    Therefore, you will not know the validity of your SQL with Global Variables until you run the job.
    Hope this helps!
    Thanks & Regards
