Outputting XML in a readable format using Xerces

I am using xerces to create an XML document. So far, I have created and OutputFormat object using the default constructor and this has set the method to xml. I am then using an XMLSerializer to write to a StringWriter. This works OK although the output comes out as one long line of text.
How would I go about formatting the output in order that the hierarchy is written to the file with tabbed indentation?

Whoops!
Solved my own problem!!
If anyones interested, you use the setIndenting(true) method of the OutputFormat class.
Thought it would be more difficult than that!!!

  • Output XML with a default namespace using XQuery

    I'm having a problem with namespaces in an XQuery within ALSB.
    We receive XML from a file which doesn't have any namespace and have to transform it into a different structure, giving it a default namespace such as below:
    Input XML
    <inputRoot>
         <inputAccountName>Joe Bloggs</inputAccountName>
         <inputAccountNumber>10938393</inputAccountNumber>
    </inputRoot>
    Desired output XML
    <outputRoot xmlns="http://www.example.org/outputSchema">
         <outputAccounts>
              <outputAccountName>Joe Bloggs</outputAccountName>
              <outputAccountNumber>10938393</outputAccountNumber>
         </outputAccounts>
    </outputRoot>
    When I attempt to do this using XQuery mapper tool, I end up with a namespace prefix on the outputRoot. The XQuery and result follows:
    XQuery
    declare namespace xf = "http://tempuri.org/XQueryProject/scratchTransformations/test/";
    declare namespace ns0 = "http://www.example.org/outputSchema";
    declare function xf:test($inputRoot1 as element(inputRoot))
    as element(ns0:outputRoot) {
    <ns0:outputRoot>
    <outputAccounts>
    <outputAccountName>{ data($inputRoot1/inputAccountName) }</outputAccountName>
    <outputAccountNumber>{ data($inputRoot1/inputAccountNumber) }</outputAccountNumber>
    </outputAccounts>
    </ns0:outputRoot>
    declare variable $inputRoot1 as element(inputRoot) external;
    xf:test($inputRoot1)
    Result
    <ns0:outputRoot xmlns:ns0="http://www.example.org/outputSchema">
         <outputAccounts>
              <outputAccountName>inputAccountName_1</outputAccountName>
              <outputAccountNumber>inputAccountNumber_1</outputAccountNumber>
         </outputAccounts>
    </ns0:outputRoot>
    How can I write the XQuery in such a way thay the namespace prefix isn't output? I've tried many different methods with no success. I can't declare a default element namespace because my input element doesn't have a namespace
    Thanks in advance

    I spoke too soon, it didn't work quite as perfectly as I'd thought :-) It turns out our client can't handle the xml with the namespace prefix but we've worked out the solution to return XML in the format we originally needed.
    Example below:
    XQuery
    declare namespace xf = "http://tempuri.org/XQueryProject/scratchTransformations/test/";
    declare default element namespace "http://www.example.org/outputSchema";
    declare namespace ns1 = ""
    declare function xf:test($inputRoot1 as element(ns1:inputRoot))
    as element(outputRoot) {
    <outputRoot>
    <outputAccounts>
    <outputAccountName>{ data($inputRoot1/inputAccountName) }</outputAccountName>
    <outputAccountNumber>{ data($inputRoot1/inputAccountNumber) }</outputAccountNumber>
    </outputAccounts>
    </outputRoot>
    declare variable $inputRoot1 as element(inputRoot) external;
    xf:test($inputRoot1)

    >>> 1) How do I go about this? I think I have to configure an adapter but which adapter would give me the desired result?
    Use File adapter at the sender side to pick up the xml and use file adapter at the receiver side (message protocol file content conversion) to convert xml format to csv.
    Basically you have to configure in the file adapter (FCC) on the receiver side to get desired csv structure from XML.
    >>> 2) How do I tell PI when to pick the file from and where to place it after conversion? Could this be done in adapter configuration?
    Configure sender file adapter to pick up the file from the specified directory. Configure receiver file (fcc adapter) to drop the csv file after conversion.
    For sender adapter
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/e3/94007075cae04f930cc4c034e411e1/content.htm
    For receiver adapter in our case FCC (FILE content Conversion) follow the link
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_NW04/helpdata/en/d2/bab440c97f3716e10000000a155106/content.htm
    Hope answered your question.
    Mapping area: simple suggestion. Keep input and output message same structure and do one to one mapping.  In the receiver fcc adapter configure for csv structure following instruction given in the above second link
    Note: FCC adapter does not support nested structure more than 2. So in your case you can achieve using conversion agent tool. Otherwise you might have to achieve through some graphical mapping.

    --Mithun

    Hi Mithun,
    You might try this step below :
    1. As for xsd schema fo the xml or create xsd schema base on the sample xml file using tools like xmlspy or others free tools.
    2. import you xsd schema as outbound Data type
    3. apply mapping from source to target (csv).
    Configuration
    Sender file adapter (without content conversion)
    Receiver file adapter (with content conversion).
    so the sender adapter will be monitoring inbound directory and write the result to another directory.
    Thank You and Best Regards
    Fernand.

  • Generation of XML file from Java objects using castor

    I have the following java file(Customer.java).
    public class Customer
         private String ID;
         private FirstName firstName;
         private MiddleName middleName;
         private LastName lastName;
         private ArrayList address;
         public ArrayList getAddress() {
              return address;
         public void setAddress(ArrayList address) {
              this.address = address;
         public FirstName getFirstName() {
              return firstName;
         public void setFirstName(FirstName firstName) {
              this.firstName = firstName;
         public String getID() {
              return ID;
         public void setID(String id) {
              ID = id;
         public LastName getLastName() {
              return lastName;
         public void setLastName(LastName lastName) {
              this.lastName = lastName;
         public MiddleName getMiddleName() {
              return middleName;
         public void setMiddleName(MiddleName middleName) {
              this.middleName = middleName;
    Using castor i have created an xml file(customer.xml) which has the following format.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    - <customer ID="fbs0001">
    <FIRSTNAME>Fred</FIRSTNAME>
    <MIDDLENAME>B</MIDDLENAME>
    <LASTNAME>Scerbo</LASTNAME>
    - <ADDRESS>
    <FIRSTLINE>No 18, Sheshadri road</FIRSTLINE>
    <SECONDLINE>Gandhinagar Bangalore</SECONDLINE>
    </ADDRESS>
    - <ADDRESS>
    <FIRSTLINE>ITPL</FIRSTLINE>
    <SECONDLINE>Whitefield Bangalore</SECONDLINE>
    </ADDRESS>
    </customer>
    I have used a mapping file to get this output.Is there a way where i can get the output xml in the following format without changing the Java object structure.If yes then please suggest how this can be done.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    - <customer ID="fbs0001">
    <FIRSTNAME>Fred</FIRSTNAME>
    <MIDDLENAME>B</MIDDLENAME>
    <LASTNAME>Scerbo</LASTNAME>
    </customer>
    <ADDRESS>
    <FIRSTLINE>No 18, Sheshadri road</FIRSTLINE>
    <SECONDLINE>Gandhinagar Bangalore</SECONDLINE>
    </ADDRESS>
    - <ADDRESS>
    <FIRSTLINE>ITPL</FIRSTLINE>
    <SECONDLINE>Whitefield Bangalore</SECONDLINE>
    </ADDRESS>
    I mean the output xml file should have the address as a separate tag not withing the root tag customer.

    Hello,
    Castor's own discussion groups might be able to point you to the solution you're looking for (if this use case is possible using Castor).
    Oracle has its own object-to-XML mapping tool that is part of the TopLink product. It allows you to map existing objects to an existing XML Schema. This can be done visually using the TopLink Workbench, or programmatically using the TopLink APIs. TopLink OXM also supports the JAXB specification.
    Using TopLink OXM to get the desired XML result I would recommend the following. Map the Customer and Address classes to XML, but don't map the relationship between Customer and Address. Then make the calls to the marshaller something like the following:
    marshaller.marshal(aCustomer, System.out);
    for(int x=0; x<aCustomer.getAddress().size(); x++) {
         marshal(aCustomer.getAddress().get(x), System.out);
    Example - Using TopLink OXM to map an existing object model to an existing XML Schema:

  • Outputting files to postscript and formatted Excel

    I have a requirement where I need to output XML content in postscript format. I also want a simultaneous ability to be able to export the same document into Excel where each page of the document/report becomes a separate worksheet.
    I have two questions.
    (1) Can I accomplish this using xml publisher
    (2) If the answer to (1) is a yes, I'd like to understand the mechanics a bit more in detail. I assume that I'd need two separate template files one for the postscript document and the other for the Excel formatted output.
    Has anyone gone down this route successfully? Pl give input on how you set this up.
    Thanks.

  • How to use an .xsl file to transform input XML to re-formatted output XML?

    Hello,
    I have a .xml file from a report that I want to use a stylesheet to transform into a different .xml format.
    I am reading that I can create a .xsl file to read my input and then transform it to a new output .xml file.
    How do I load this into the Apps?
    I tried creating a template definition and loading the .xsl in as type 'XSL-TEXT' and also, I added
    <?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="Transform.xsl"?> to my xml data source. The output looked the same as the input.
    Has anyone done this before? Any suggestions would be great!
    Thanks

  • Complete export of SAP XI elements to an external, readable format i.e. XML

    Within the scope of a project regarding Dependencies of Applications within the company the data, saved in the Integration Directory as well as in the Integration Repository, have to be exported in an external, readable format which can be processed in another application. My question is concerned with the extraction possibilities I have concerning the different components:
    Integration Repository: Here we need the data about Message Interfaces, Message Types as well as Data Types. As this information are formally described using WSDL: Does a possibility exist to export all WSDL Documents automatically?
    Integration Directory: Here we are interested in the elements: Receiver Determination, Interface Determination, Sender Agreement etc. Does any possibility exist to export these data to i.e. a XML File? Is ABAP necessary?
    Your help will be greatly appreciated.
    Kind Regards,

    You can read, alter and load objects with the APIs of the WebServicesNavigator. To browse to there open your browser and go to http://url:Port/index.html
    There you can select the Web Services Navigator. Browse through the services for the desired objects. Use the query function to read out all existing objects by key values and as a template to use the read-function of these APIs.
    Make sure you have the Java-Roles SAP_XI_API_DEVELOP_J2EE and/or SAP_XI_API_DISPLAY_J2EE

  • How to burst reports in text and XML format using API

    Hi there,
    I need to be able to burst PDF, Excel etc reports and at the same time, generate XML files containing metadata that will accompany the PDF files to their destination. The reason for this, is that the destination requires metadata to class the documents in the content management system.
    My issue is that I just cannot get bursting to XML, text or HTML format right. There is very little documentation available around creating reports in these formats using the API's and perhaps someone who has gotten this right can, once and for all, solve this issue where others can find the solution.
    Alright, here is some sample supporting documentation (For the sake of the question, I have removed the bursting to PDF, Excel etc. formats and I am just focusing on the XML output):
    In my code for bursting, I make use of the following constructor...
    DocumentProcessor dp =
    new DocumentProcessor("ControlFile.xml", "TestData.xml", "temp");
    The ControlFile.xml looks like this...
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <xapi:requestset xmlns:xapi="http://xmlns.oracle.com/oxp/xapi">
    _<xapi:request select="/DATA/LIST_BRANCH/BRANCH">
    ___<xapi:delivery>
    ______<xapi:filesystem id="dst" output="C:\${BRANCH_NAME}.xml"/>
    ___</xapi:delivery>
    ___<xapi:document output-type="text" delivery="dst">
    ______<xapi:template type="xsl-fo" location="Template.xsl"></xapi:template>
    ___</xapi:document>
    _</xapi:request>
    </xapi:requestset>
    The data in my TestData.xml looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <DATA>
    ___<LIST_BRANCH>
    ______<BRANCH>
    __________<BRANCH_NAME>BRANCH 1</BRANCH_NAME>
    ______________ OTHER IRRELEVANT DATA
    ______</BRANCH>
    ______<BRANCH>
    __________<BRANCH_NAME>BRANCH 2</BRANCH_NAME>
    ______________ OTHER IRRELEVANT DATA
    ______</BRANCH>
    ___</LIST_BRANCH>
    </DATA>
    In my ControlFile.xml, I reference my XSL file called Template.xsl which should do my transformations into XML. That file looks like:
    <xsl:stylesheet version="2.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
    __<xsl:output method="xml" indent="yes">
    __<xsl:template match="/">
    ____<METADATA>
    _______<BRANCH>
    ___________<xsl:value-of select="BRANCH_NAME"/>
    _______</BRANCH>
    ____</METADATA>
    __</xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>
    I have tried about forty variations of the ControlFile.xml and Template.xsl and have had no luck. Among the various error messages that the compiler has reported to me, these are the most common:
    [101507_055953158][][EXCEPTION] Error while generating the Document...
    [101507_055953158][][EXCEPTION] org.xml.sax.SAXException: element metadata is not supported yet.
    [101507_061037084][][EXCEPTION] Error while generating the Document...
    [101507_061037094][][EXCEPTION] oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLParseException: Start of root element expected.
    I have managed in some cases to get the API code to compile, but the outputs are empty 0kb files.
    I have also exported an XSL-FO file from word, but the output is always PDF even with tweaking.
    I have wasted about 9 hours on this problem and it is driving me mad! If anyone has ideas, tips and/or solutions, they would be very welcome.
    Thanks in advance,
    Andrew

    Help bring a multipage scanned document (TIFF) in PDF format using XML Publisher.

    If the output TIFF, multipage PDF file in the report, the report prints a blank.

    If the output JPG file to a PDF report, all displayed perfectly.
    <fo:instream-foreign-object content-type="image/jpg" height="9 cm" width="12 cm">
    <xsl:value-of select=".//FILE_DATA"/>
    Thanks

    It seems that these error messages MOD_OC4J_0184 etc are associated with some sort of timeout.
    My problem finally solved - see my comments at:
    Re: FOP
    I would like to see the PDF format using FOP docs made clearer that 2 http servers are involved in this process, one serving htmldb pages and the other oc4j stuff.
    Is it possible to do the PDF format using FOP with only the htmldb http server??
    Cheers

  • How to SaveAs the MSword file into xml file format using Java APIS?

    Hello all,
    I want to convert MSword file into Xml format using java APIS or any other inbuilt APIS that i can integrate in Java code.

    Sorry, that doesn't make much sense.
    The XML you gave is a configuration file for txt2xml utility. It doesn't represent the output format.
    Are you a user of this utility?

  • "Output could not be issued" when using custom page formats

    Dear all,
    I created a custom page format using SPAD. Its dimension is 7.5cm x 10cm (190mm x 254mm). I also created this page format in windows and set as the default paper size in my printer. However, when trying to print a smartform using this size, the message "Output could not be issued" is given. When I use the standard paper sizes (e.g., LETTER, DINA4), the form prints OK.
    Can you point me to the direction to solving this?
    Thank you!
    Kyle

    Issue resoved.
    For those who are encountering the same problem, here's what I did. I tested the smartform by itself and it reported the specific error: the page format is not supported in device type SWIN. I added it in another device type SAPWIN. This was just a simple miscommunication between the admins and the developer. I added the format in SWIN and everything works fine.
