Overlay problem

The overlays that I created are not matching up with the menu that I created closely enough. Here is my process I created a menu in Motion. Then deactived all of the elements that are not going to be buttons, leaving me with a black back ground and a white letters. I export that as a jpeg then put it in to photoshop, hit invert to make it a white back ground with black letters. I save it as a psd. Then apply that as the overlay. But the words do not match up with the menu that I created very well. Am I missing a step or something?
Thank You
Vincent LeGrow

Check to make sure that you are not exporting an item as 720 x 480 and the other as 720 x 486, this can cause shifting, also may depend on how you set up the aspects or sizing in Photoshop
Take a look here

Usually I find it easier just to invert letters and baackground in Motion or use color mapping instead of grayscale

I have a problem that the overlay image is not in position , it has some problem in alignment ,(During zoom out the web page , overlay image changes its position)
I want the overlay image exactly within the blog post container. can anyone help me to modify the code.

To maintain position with respect to the rest of the page elements, the nearest ancestor container of any absolutely positioned element must be positioned relatively, for example -
    <div id="ancestor" style="position:relative;">
    <div id="xx1" style="position:absolute;">
With this code arrangement, as div#ancestor shifts in the normal flow of the code rendering, the div#xx1 will shift by a corresponding amount.
    Does that help?

  • Video Overlay Problem

My current project requires multiple video overlays (or cutaways). I'm following the directions in the iMovie 2 manual (though I have iMovie 3.0.3. I'm extracting the audio from the overlay clip (in the preferences section) prior to the overlay. Then I reduce the audio in the overlay clip to zero, and it almost works perfectly. Except -- in the extracted audio track that is playing under the overlay there is a very high pitched micro-burst of a peep, sometimes more than one. Thinking it was an anomaly, I have redone the overlays again and again, but the little sqeal doesn't go away. If I cut the extracted audio, the picture plays perfectly. The problem is in the extracted audio. What am I doing wrong??? Or what is iMovie 3 doing wrong?

If you do an entire extraction, can you cut or mute the sound at the ends and get rid of the noise? I haven't used iM3 for years so I don't know how it behaves with the OS and QT updates that have come along. I however do not remember sound problems with it in OS9 and early 10. (Which is the last time I used 3) It was just very crash prone. Exports were a little buggy too. The export trouble went away with 10.
Really though, for the price of iLife you should really pop for it.

  • Help!  Image Overlay problems in FCP

I am working on a web video project in FCP 7.0.2 that is working with both video and images. I need a watermark overlay in the bottom right corner for the duration as well as various image overlays and I use moving images as transition between scenes. Whenever I lay an image on top of video, the video speeds up. Audio stays in real time but the video gets really fast. Whenever I try to use an image as a transition, during the transition and soon after it's completion, the screens flashes black.
I recently completed a project that is the exact same as this one in regards to settings and images and had none of these problems. Any idea what the issue is?

Sorry for being vague. I think I solved it. I used Amerisoft Video Converter to convert 1280 x 720 MTS files. With the original project, I made mp4's with the convertor. With the newer project, they are all .MOV's and they aren't getting along with my previous sequence settings. I am re-exporting them.
The transition isn't a pre-programed transition. I take a .PNG and set a motion tween in the motion tab and have it slide across as a transition from one scene to another. It's just a moving image file. I also have a logo overlayed on the bottom right corner. Knowing all of that, can you think of why the image files weren't getting along with the .MOV's and the sequence?

  • Timecode overlay problems

I am trying to use AME to encode low quality timecode burned in 29.97 clips from from a Sony F5 camera.
The problem is that the Timecode overlay effect has multiple issues:
The first being that it defaults to non-drop frames, so I get a slight drift in the timecode for long clips.
The second one is when I try to make 15 fps TCBI clips out of the 29.97 fps originals. The result is that the burned-in TC goes 2 times too slow because it just increment timecode by 1 frame instead of 2.
It looks like AME doesn't really read TC from the source file at each frame, but merely read the first TC and then extrapolate.
I tried to file a bug report but got an email saying that my message wasn't delivered due to a permission issue..?

Vince, 1mickey's suggestion is what I was trying to explain. Do it with just one of the tapes you are having trouble with.. if it captures like it should after being dubbed, your problem has been narrowed.
Right now you're in the diagnosis phase of the problem, it could be bad timecode or dropped frames on the tape(s) or possibly that your deck needs service for the timecode reader or a bad firewire port. Could be lots of things.
If you have ruled out all of the things that are currently being cited as causes: updating a PPC to Leopard, updating Quicktime to 7.3 updating Pro Apps Support, Installing Perian on the machine... it's a lengthy list and not everyone is having the same problems.
$500 dollars to dub a tape is ridiculous. Don't use them ever.. for anything. I've got a local U-Edit about 2 miles away that will do it for $45. including the new tape. That's a fair price for very little actual work.
Find a friend with a camera or deck and put a couple of extra cold ones in the refrigerator. Chances are you will be able to return the favor one of these days.

  • Overlay problems

    Hi folks
I've been having a few problems using standard overlay files in DVDSP 4. I seem to have fixed most of them using the wonderful information on this board but am stuck on the following
I have a screen with 7 buttons. The top 3 and menu button are fine but when I select any of the bottom buttons, a thin white line appears along the top of the text overlay area. I have tried moving the overlay etc but the problem persists, sometimes a line also appears underneath. I have examples....

I hope someone can help! thanks in advance

    Hi:
    Wellcome to the forums!!
    Overlay file size (px)
What size in pixels is your overlay file? I mean, did you take in account the pixel aspect ratio issue?
    Try with advanced colors
Select a button in your menu, in the Inspector windows go to Color tab and select Overlay Color: Advanced, Mapping Type Grayscale and Selection State Selected.
Then, for the first three key colors (black and grey ones) select the same color you used in your buttons but with a different % on each key, i.e.: 15% for Black, 8% for Dark Gray and 4% for Light Gray.
In that way, if your overlay file black elements have some antialiases "gray scale" borders, you'll get them colored with a gradient color.
Let us know how it worked !

  • Green Screen Overlay Problem.

Recently I have problem with overlay green screen. It is sometimes transparent and sometimes ok . It happened after I upgrade to mountain lion. Is there any fix to this problem.

Hopefully there is something in your frame that is fixed that you can track for scale and rotation. The procedure would be to stop all the camera movement by stabilizing the footage then perform your key then scale as necessary to fix the framing problem. And by stabilize, I do not mean warp stabilize. That will do you know good and cannot work on the green screen anyway. I mean you lock in scale and rotation so that something, like the actors torso, does not moved in the frame at all. Only then do you have a chance of removing the offensive motion. If you could post the shot then I could give you some ideas. I have had to do this several times because of inexperienced camera operators. I always felt like sending them a bill.

  • Button overlay problem

hi. I made a DVD with a simple layered menu with 2 buttons and 2 movie tracks. In simulation the button overlay works fine, when I place the mouse over them they highlight. The problem is that after build&burn, I have to click twice the button to send me to the desired track. When I place the mouse over the button it doesn't highlight, press once it highlights, press second time it sends me to the video track.
(tested with DVD player, VLC and PC player - same behaviour)
    can anyone help?

    Welcome to the Boards
You have found one of the limitations on layered menus (assuming you did them properly which it sounds like you did) - sometimes rollovers will not work. Most set top players should be okay. This is one of the reasons why layered menus are usually not recommended for use around here (though of course you can use them knowing the issues)

  • Fullscreen video playback on external monitor (overlay problem?)

I want to watch videopodcasts via iTunes fullscreen on my external Monitor/TV. It works fine with Quicktime and WindowsMediaPlayer but iTunes doesn't play my Videos in Fullscreen on my external Monitor.
I had the idea it is because the overlay mode isn't siwtched on but I can't find where to setup the display mode of video playback in iTunes.
    Can anybody help me?
    Bernd.

    oh, no...
i thouhght the iTunes Videoplayback would rely on Quicktime and thus it would be possible.
    isn't there any other possibilty?

  • Menu overlay problems - Am I missing something?

    Hello!
I've been making menus by creating a photoshop document, then using that as my background and overlay, setting the overlay in DSP as a certain layer I created in photoshop. I've done this a hundred times before, but since I got the crossgrade update, when I bring a psd or tif file into DSP, I can't select one of the layers as an overlay. I know there are multiple layers when I save it in photoshop. I'm trying to make my button have an underline when selected, so if there's any other way I can do this, please help.

Usually it is better to make flattened images for the background and overlay
    http://dvdstepbystep.com/quickmenus.php
as oppossed to targeting layers in a photoshop file (unless you are using layered menus of course.)
If you still want to try the layers, make sure all text and layers are rasterized.
In general though, be careful with the crossgrade, there have been a couple of VERY strange results occcurring (layers not showing on players) from the Universal Version. The work around seems to be to make the background a motion menu (even if just a still for a few seconds)

Do you have a piece of source code (what you do from bringing up the video overlay) ?

  • Advanced overlay problem with white

I'm trying to create an advanced overlay using all four grayscale shades. All of the color mapping is working correctly except that bringing up the white opacity maps the color over areas that are transparent in the .psd file.
In other words in the overlay my text is white. I have a green color mapped to white. Bringing up the opacity results in green text but also green in the surrounding areas that in the PS file are transparent.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

The reason is that white and transparent are effectively the same thing when you do this - the white setting needs to be on zero to ensure the areas around your shape within the button area remain clear.
To get around it you have to use only three of the grey shades - 33%, 66% and 100% (Black).
Make your overlay text black and map that to be green, then raise the opacity and you should be OK. Anything you currently have set as black needs to go to 66% and anything else needs to be at 33%.
It's very limiting, I know, but it is the way sub picture streams work, I'm afraid.

  • IMovie 11 - Logo overlay problem

Hi - When I place my logo (png format) over my video the video stops in the playback and the audio continues. However if I place the cursor directly on the place where I placed my logo I see the video, audio and my logo overlay. Any advice?

this is a 'flaw' of this trick:
in iMovie, on preview, playback can stutter, no pic, no png, audio only etc.
on final export everything will be rendered and fine - promised!
