Overview - Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE (OCJ4)

After reading the OCJ4 documentation, I still have a very simple question: what does OCJ4 actually do?
Is it just a calling mechanism that exposes the Java procedures stored/compiled on the Oracle Database?
Does it provide functionality redundant to Sun Java Application Server, and possible allow you to deploy your Java services using only OAS?
...I'm just a little confused by all the marketing bragging about all the things it will help me do that I am not sure what it actually does.

Thank you Shail.
Can you or anyone give guidance or the relevant documentation link for:
1. Deploying Java apps to this OAS component?
2. How to administrate these deployments?
...I assume it's in the documentation somewhere; I just haven't dug deep enough or searched on the correct terminology.

  • Can't Install Application Server  8 for J2EE on win XP

Today i was installing Sun AppServer 8 on (Win XP) but there was a problem and it was aborted and windows forced to shutdown. WhenI reach the installation Directory Creation dialog (C:\Sun\AppServer), it hangs up and never proceeds to installation.
I have tried twice and got the same error.
I read in the release notes that it can be installed on winXP!
    Any know issues?

Yes you should be able to install on Windows XP. Does the drive you are installing on have enough disk space? You may also want to search this forum for other threads pertaining to a similar problem. This thread may also help: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=136&thread=504935

  • Do older versions of Oracle Application Server support Containers for J2EE?

Do older versions of Oracle 9iAS support Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE (OC4J)?
I went to the our companies application server directory. I don't see an oc4j or j2ee directory.
    Thanks,
    Merced

How far back are you looking? ANd what, in particular, are you looking for ...
The history of the Oracle 'internet service' that I remember is roughly:
    Web Server 2.1 (mid 1990s)
Web Application Server 3.x (mid 1990s)
Oracle Application Server 4.0.x (late 1990s)
Oracle Internet Application Server 1.0.x (2000)
Oracle Application Server 8i (basically 1.0.2.22.2.z)
    Oracle Application Server 9i (9.0.2, 9.0.3)
    Oracle Application Server 10g (9.0.4, 10.?.1)
Oracle had an initial J2EE container [attempt] with 4.0.x but that never really took off. I think that was really around the time of the last beta revisions for the JSP spec, and that's left us with the legacy of JServ apps. Seems like you would see OJSE, Oracle JSE (Java Server Engine?) in the docco and path.
IIRC, the current OC4J lineage started with around IAS 1.0.2 and has moved forward on what is now OC4J. There were some opportunities in the early days to improve consistency in the naming and directory structure areas. That has some lineage from Ironflare's Orion engine and so occasionally you see 'Orion' in the messages.

  • Data sources in deploying web app. to Oracle Application Server

I am using simple web application - JSP with BC4J (JDeveloper 9.0.5.1).
I want to configure my application to use Data Source instead of JDeveloper connection and deploy it to production database, so DB administrator will take care of username and password.
First, I create a new application module configuration that uses a data source instead of a JDeveloper connection with BC config. name TestAppModuleWithDS.
Then I modify my application client (DataBindings.cpx) to use the new configuration (TestAppModuleWithDS).
After that I create deployment profile and deploy to application server connection and try to test it on standalone server, and on production server together with my DBA.
But the application is not running, always displaying error messages...
Please what is the procedure and how to set Config of ApplModule.
It is working properly with embeded server, but on standalone server there is an error:

iAS 1.0.x is StoneAge Technology (TM).
Using the E-Business Suite you should look into the newer versions of the Application Server. I believe that 10.1.2.x supports the EBS, otherwise 9.04 should do the trick. Webservice support is much better in the newer versions. 1.0.x is from around 2000/2001 so the Webservice technology back than was "different" :-)

  • Error starting Oracle Application server

Hi I installed Oracle application server 10g. I successfully installed it. But when i stopped the opmn and emctl process and now when i am trying to start i am able to successfully start but when i type the URL of OAS Admin console. I get following error:
    500 Internal Server Error

Can any one please help me resolve this issue at the earliest?

    Hi,
Now I'm just thinking with U because error 500 can be result of different reasons. I think (I'm not sure)at this situation it has to do with java version.
    AIX 5.3 has java version 1.4.2. .
Would U like to go $ORACLE_HOME\jdk\jre\bin\ then just type ./java -full version or java version.
    Which result U 'll get.
    also type in which java
moreover can U give me the output of the env command.
the last step before U start any as process just do the following
ps -ef | grep (owner of your as)
if U 'll find any process just kill it kill -15 process id if it does not help then hard kill with -9
try to set your environement variable well then start your opmn components again per-process to see which process is going wrong.
    Let me know,
    Regards

  • Problem Deploying Oracle PDK Portlet to Oracle Application Server 9.0.4.0

I have a big issue trying to deploy a pdk portlet I have created in JDeveloper (10.1.2). The application is very simple, it consists of 2 JSP's (call them Select.jsp and Display.jsp) and 1 Java Class (Call it DoEverything.java).
The architecture of the system is VERY simple. The Select.jsp is a simple drop down list that is embedded in an html form, with the options in the drop down populated by a method call from DoEverything.java. Once the user selects an option and hits submit, he is sent to the Display.jsp, which is a simple html table that is populated by another method call from DoEverything.java. (Basically the whole system is a simple "view" of a given table in a DB based on the option selected in Select.jsp).
The system works perfect in JDeveloper, where I created it using the Oracle PDK Java Portlet wizard. However I'm running into a problem when I try and take it over to the Application Server. The main documentation I have been following is the: Oracle® Application Server Portal Developer's Guide and in particular the section 6.6.2.4.1 Creating a Connection to Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE where it explains how to connect to the App. Server. The line "The steps that follow describe the procedure for deploying to a standalone instance of Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE. For information about deploying to a full Oracle Application Server instance, please refer to the Oracle JDeveloper online Help system." is the one that is bothering me the most as I am trying to deploy to a full instance of the Oracle Application Server, but I cannot find anywhere that walks me through this in the online JDeveloper help.
Anyway, currently we ftp the appropriate JSP's, Java Class, provider.xml and provider properties files to their respective directories on the Application Server, register the provider and reboot the Http Server. (This has worked before except for the fact that when the user selected an option from the Select.jsp and the request was then sent over to the Display.jsp based on the form action the Display.jsp wasn't recognized. We figured the provider.xml file needed to be edited in this case in order to know where Display.jsp was being kept). In any event nothing seems to be working at the moment and my main concern is that it maybe we should be deploying as EAR/WAR (both of which I'm not super familiar and my second main concern is that it seems most people use JavaBeans and Struts and all sorts of different API's whereas here I just have a fairly simple Java Class back end that connects to the database and creates an object based on the attributes contained in the database (1 object for 1 unique row in the DB) and I want to be sure that the way I have developed this should still work with the Oracle AS. I'm hoping its just a matter of getting the directory structure straightened out and editing the provider.xml file to include all the JSP's.
Sorry for the long post, but if you could address my two main concerns and possible give me or point me towards a good thorough walk through of deploying a simple system (oracle pdk java portlet) like I have developed to the App. Server it would be greatly appreciated !
    Thanks a lot.

Basically I started to develop this system inside Oracle AS and then when it came time to passing a request to a new page, it crapped out on me on the App. Server. So instead of trying to fix the problem there and then I continued to develop outside Portal and inside Jdeveloper. After a week or two once all my stuff worked perfectly I try and take it back into Portal but only the first JSP of all my Portlets would show up, because as soon as I would submit a form and the action directed me to a new page and Portal would be lost/confused. Obviously I shouldn't have done it that way but none the less...
So now I'm reading through the documentation you pointed me towards and it seems I have to qualify my parameters and then "attach" them to the url which the form will pass to the actioned page. I'm importing numerous classes (...urlUtils, etc) in order to qualify the parameters and then build this url without affecting any parameters currently present that my portlet does not own.
What I'm rambling towards here is all this separation of logic and presentation and the whole nine, implies different people can develop different parts of a 'system' mostly independant of one another...so in my situation I shouldn't in huge trouble yet, since underlying everything is a working system. My issue is with oracle and the App Server. If I take my code which works great outside of the App. Server and I fully qualify parameters and make sure my form actions are constructed using the UrlUtils in order to fully qualify them as well, and then I make sure page parameters are mapped to the proper portlet parameter values....should my system work on the App Server (assuming everything is done properly)....or am I still missing something.

  • Cannot downlad OAS Containers for J2EE 10g (10.0.3)

    Hi,
I cannot download "Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE 10g (10.0.3)" referenced from the OTN home page (http://otn.oracle.com/index.html) from within the Oracle firewall (haven't tried outside it yet).

    Get the same error here:

It would certainly be more helpful if the website simply redirected users to a web page that stated this fact like the Systems Assurance Center website does (http://sac.us.oracle.com/).
The following is the message I get from the SAC site (which I tried after OTN):
At the moment, you are not allowed to download from the Archive. Please click here to see the reason, and to find out more about your permissions.
    Archive Access Information
    Your IP address is: xxx.x.xxx.xx
Our records show that you are in the GMT-5 time zone.
We assume that your local time is Tue Aug 3 15:32:56 2004
You have download access to the Archive from 18:00 to 05:59 on Monday - Friday, and all day during Saturday and Sunday.
Right now, you are not allowed to download software from the Archive. You will gain access to the Archive in 2 hours and 28 minutes.
I certainly find this more informative than "Sorry, this page was not found (Error Document 404)".
It would be great if someone could fix this. Unfortunately at this point, there is no way to distinguish this scenario from other networking failures.
    Thanks,

  • Stop poodle vulnerability in oracle application server

    Hello guys.
Our Enterprise is using Oracle Application Server in front of oracle database. we using oracle wallet manager(Installed with Oracle client 10) to create self sign certificates. as you may know wallet manager in v 10 has some limitation in key size or ... (i don't know exactly the limitation and i hope you could help me on it ).
when we want to issue a certificate at first we create a certificate request with wallet manager and then issue based on certificate in windows server CA.
    now i have some question:
1- what are the limitation of using wallet manager in V10 to issue the self sign certificate?
2- is there another way to create self sign certificate without wallet manager V10?(when i try the newest versions oracle application failed to open a certificate)
3- and my most important question:
can i stop poodle attack in oracle application? (i red somewhere that poodle attack doesn't apply in TLSV1. so i guess its better to ask my question this way:
does oracle application server support the TLSV1? )
i really appreciate any sort of help.
    thank you.
