Packaging java application

I don't know whether this is an appropriate place to post my question or not. I have built a java application. Now, I have to package the application. I can easily package it using Advanced Installer which is based on microsoft installer. My million dollar question is, what would or should I use to package my application that is a java-based packaging application?? i.e. it will install my application in any platform just as my application will run in any platform. Does that make sense???

You need to answer the "should" question yourself. How much money do you have to spend, etc., etc.

  • How to package Java application in a setup file?

    I wish to package my application in a setup file. On double clicking the icon of setup file, the installation of the application may begin. I like to include modified JVM, Acrobat Reader along with class files of the application (packaged in a JAR file) in the setup file, i.e., I want to spare users from the headach of downloading before installing the JVM or Acrobat Reader, etc.
    Things like this have been done in commercial products such as Dreamweaver.
    I have no idea right now how this can be done, but I have to work on this. Any hint, suggestion, direction, advise would be highly appreciated.

    This is a simple free program which will allow you to package your JVM etc with all your other files and it'll give you a small exe file which will invoke the VM and start your app. It only works on windows btw.
    http://www.rolemaker.dk/nonRoleMaker/javalauncher/marner_java_launcher.htm
    After you've set up the program all you need to do is download one the many shareware install programs from download.com. They're normally really easy to use, you just tell them the dir/s you want to package, which files, usually the exe, to add a shortcut to. It will then build a setup exe file for you.

  • Package & Deploy java application

    is any application exists that can package java applications+jdk so that coud be installed in other computers?

    You can search the web for installers or tools to generate exe files.
    You can also look at Java Web Start, a nice deployment strategy:

    i want to know how CLI is done in java.
    i am going thru this link http://www.codezoo.com/pub/component/5574
    not able to get anything.
    please please help me

    There are two steps -
    1. Import the classes you need from the package(s) using the Java import statement in your classes that need access to them.
    2. include the 3rd part code (one or more .jar files and/or root directories holding the code's package tree and .class files) to your javac and java class path and optionaly to the class path found in your .jar's manifest file.

    we are upgrading our system to Oracle 12i and we have a custom java application that access the Oracle API. As part of this upgrade we have to deploy our JAVA application packaged as an EAR file to OC4J that comes with Oracle EBS. All we need is sequence of steps/ some document that will help us deploy our JAVA application(EAR file) to OC4J server.
    1. Can we create another instance of OC4j in Oracle 12i(12.1.3)?
    2. Will there be any integrity issue if we deploy ear file to Oacore/Forms/OAFM oc4j instance integrated with R12? or Do we need to create a new instance?
    3. I was told by the support engineer that there is no EM console for oc4j integrated with R12, so is there any script provided by oracle to do any ear deployment?

    The API documentation has a link at the top of every page that says "Index". If you follow that and look for toFront(), you will find it exists in java.awt.Window and javax.swing.JInternalFrame.
    To use it in a Java application, create an object x of either of those two classes and write "x.toFront();".

  • Packaging and Delpoying Java Application

    I have a java application that i want to package and deploy. I have used JSmooth to wrap my jar file into an exe file. However I was wondering if there are any applications that could be used to install this program like other installers do (ask path, create shortcut, etc).

    There are several packages available that let you create an installer which lets the customer select where to install your app, creates a native executable to launch your java app, adds desktop icons, menus, etc.
    Here's a list of some of apps available:

  • Forms 6.0 and JAVA Applications?

    We used until now Forms 3.0 with "User Exit Functions" written in Fortran to read data from Instruments. Currently we migrate the applications from Forms 3.0 to Forms 6.0. Is it possible to start a JAVA application (not applet!) out of Forms 6.0 to get data from a instrument? I have written a JAVA application that could do this job, based on Sun's javax.comm package.
    Thank You

    Hi,
    Oracle Forms 6i does not support Advances Security for SQL*Net if this is what your question is. ASO is supported with Forms 9i and above

  • Java application with classes to Applet?

    Hello,
    First, I'm a Java junior, but I can make efforts to analyse and understand code.
    I saw an interesting open-source multiplayer poker java application: [JiBi's Hold'Em|http://sourceforge.net/projects/jibisholdem/]
    I would like to try to add it as an Applet on my server, but I have some questions.
    1- Do you think it is possible to make it fully works as an Applet (eg: through a proxy), as it seems to use a specific protocol and many classes?
    2- I tried the idea of GumB: http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=390846&start=13&tstart=0
    with getContentPane().add( new javaApp().getContentPane()but I have the following error message:
    I also tried with imports (import holdem.core.Card;etc) and with HoldEmClientGUI().getContentPane() or holdem.gui.HoldEmClientGUI().getContentPane()

            getContentPane().add( new HoldEmClientGUI().getContentPane() );
                                      ^
    1 errorAm I close or really far from a working result?
    Thanks

  • HOw to create a Batch file for java application and whats the use of this ?

    HI,
    How to create a Batch file for java application ?
    And whats the use of creating batch file ?
    Thanks in advance

    First of all, you're OT.
    Second, you can find this everywhere in the net.
    If you got a manifest declaring main class (an classpath if needed), just create a file named whatever.bat, within same directory of jar file, containing:
    javaw -jar ./WhateverTheNameOfYourJarIs.jar %*By the way, assuming a Windows OS, you can just double click the jar file (no batch is needed).
    Otherwise use:
    javaw -cp listOfJarsAndDirectoriesSeparedBySemiColon country/company/application/package/className %*Where 'country/company/application/package/' just stands for a package path using '/' as separator instead of '.'
    Don't specify the .class extension.
    Javaw only works on Windows (you asked for batch, I assumed .BAT, no .sh), in Linux please use java.exe (path may be needed, Windows doesn't need it 'cause java's executables are copied to system32 folder in order to be always available, see PATH environment variable if you don't know what I'm talking about) and use ':' as classpath (cp) separator.
    The '%***' tail is there in order to pass all parameters, it only works on Windows, refer to your shell docs for other OSs (something like $* may work).
    This way you have a command you can call to launch your code (instead of opening NetBeans just to see your app working). You could schedule tasks on it or just call it in any command prompt (hope you know what it is 'cause there have been people in this very same forum with no clue about it, if not just hold the 'Windows button' and press 'R', then type 'cmd' and run it).
    Finally add dukes and give 'hem away.
    Bye.

  • Running a Java application from a Swing GUI

    Hi,
    I was wondering if there is a simple way to run a Java application from a GUI built with Swing. I would presume there would be, because the Swing GUI is a Java application itself, technically.
    So, I want a user to click a button on my GUI, and then have another Java application, which is in the same package with the same classpaths and stuff, run.
    Is there a simple way to do this? Do any tutorials exist on this? If someone could give me any advice, or even a simple "yes this is possible, and it is simple" or "this is possible, but difficult" or "no this is not possible" answer, I would appreciate it. If anyone needs more information, I'll be happy to provide it.
    Thanks,
    Dan

    I don't know if it is possible to run the main method from another Java app by simply calling it...
    But you could just copy and paste the stuff from your main method into a new static method called something like runDBQuery and have all the execution run from there.
    How does that sound? Is it possible?
    What I'm suggeting is:
    Original
    public class DBQuery{
    public static void methodA(){
    public static void doQuery(){
    methodA();
    public static void main(String[] args){
    // Your method calls
    //Your initializing
    doQuery();
    }Revised:
    public class DBQuery{
    public static void methodA(){
    public static void doQuery(){
    methodA();
    public static void doMyQuery(){
    // Your method calls
    //Your initializing
    doQuery();
    // No main needed!!
    //public static void main(String[] args){
    // Your method calls
    //doQuery();
    //}

  • Running a java application in command prompt

    hi, I'm new to this forum.
    I would like to know what exactly needs to be specified to run a java application in a normal DOS command prompt.
    I know it is something like:
    javaw -classpath .\class GUI.applicationGUI
    where applicationGUI is the main class, right? What else do I need to do, since I have some other non-GUI classes that I need, inside the class folder ?
    Thanks for your time.

    You need to import those classes. And you need to make packages.
    In classes 1, 2 and 3 put:
    package class;
    In class 4 put;
    package class.GUI;
    Then you need to make the connection:
    In classes 1,2 and 3 put:
    import class.GUI.*;
    In class 4 put:
    import class.*;
    Compile each directory separately while in the respective directory. javac *.java
    Then go back to the directory above the directory "class" and run
    java class/GUI/name_of_file_containing_main_method
