Pages doc can't be opened

I created a Pages document on my iPad mini, and now I cannot open it again. When I try to open the document there's a pop-up that says "Document can't be opened". Can someone help me? It's kind of urgent!

Not sure if this will help but try quitting Pages like I describe below and then reset your iPad.
Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. Then press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.

Pages docs "can't be opened"

Whenever I try to open a Pages doc (either by double-clicking it, or by opening the files from within Pages) I'm told "filename can't be opened".
I've done all software updates and am working on an MBP 13" retina, bought earlier this year.
Anyone know what's going on please?

I suspect you are trying to open Pages 5 files with the Pages '09 which probably is in your Applications/iWork folder.
Apple has removed over 90 features from Pages 5 and caused enormous compatibility problems across the many versions.

Archive/trash Pages 5 and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

Pages error messages: Existing docs can't be opened

I'm getting error messages in Pages when I try to save or share an existing document: "document can't be opened"
I closed pages to try again and altho the docs appear in "open recent" (as untitled Doc. 3 and 4), I can't open them...getting same error message!
(PS documents were not locked)

You may have suffered some kind of corruption; that may also have caused the issue in your other thread.
It may be worth trying the list (you may skip 5), and you may consider going straight to 6)).
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save curent artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Ipad pages: document can't be opened

I've been using pages to write a paper on my iPad. I've opened and closed the document several times with no problem. Tonight I tried to email a pdf of the finished document from pages. Not only was this not successful, I can no longer open this document at all (though no problem with other documents). I've tried rebooting the ipad, updating pages, and updating iOS--still no success. Any other suggestions? Need to email a pdf of this to a PC to submit for a class ASAP. :(

If you use iCloud with Pages, go into iCloud.com using a browser on your computer - not the iPad - and see if the document is in there. Download it and see if you can open it that way.
You could try restoring from a backup as well if you backed up when you synced - and if the document is in the backup. You will be restoring your iPad to the condition it was in last Friday when you last synced.
You could also quit Pages, reboot the iPad and hope that the document will open after that.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Export to Word--docs can't be opened

When I export in Word format, the documents appear in the folder, but can't be opened in Word. (They can be opened in Pages, and look fine.)
Any thoughts, anyone?

(I've restarted, and it happens in both apps)
But thanks to your thoughts I just created a new user, and Export works fine with it! So something is corrupted within my normal user. When I get some time I'll try deleting various preference files of Word and Pages, unless you have any better suggestions!

Pages "document can't be opened"... Important document! Please help...

I made a document in pages this morning and attempted to open it just now, but it says "document can't be opened". I have tried restarting the app and ipad, nothing seems to work. I can't email it to myself either, because it can't create an email or export the document because the 'creating email,page just loads forever. I need this important document ASAP, please, do you have any suggestions? The app and my ipad 2 are both updated.

Pages file can't be opened

Hi, I was working on a pages file, then a message appeared, once i selected the "Revert" option, the file has been closed and i can't re-open it again.
the message is: " the file name.pages" can't be opened. i upgraded all versions and deleted the old ones but nothing happened. I also tried to use different online website to convert the file to any other format but all trials failed. Please help!

I do not know if you have come across warnings against using Pages 5 for any valuable work.
I have posted them almost incessantly, but you are only one of a series of users with unopenable files.
There are obvious warning signs against the new file format. It is incredibly complex and undocumented, proprietary and constantly shifting. Pages 5 damages older files and has a very restricted feature set that is not constant.
The only thing that opens Pages 5.1 files (and then not always) is Pages 5.1 running on very restricted hardware and very restricted software/OS.
It is handled across multiple conversions if it passes through iCloud and iOS devices, perhaps even iWork for iCloud beta. Despite what Apple says these are not the same.
If something goes wrong in the compressed bundle, that is the Pages 5 file format, then there is no known way of parsing the contents. All you can do is right click on the file to open the package and open Document.iwa which will reveal the occassional snippet of text amidst a lot of hexadecimal code.
Pages 5 is beta in all but name.
DO NOT USE PAGES 5 FOR VITAL WORK.
In fact avoid it at all costs.

What Pages on what hardware?
If the problem is with older Pages '08 files they can't be opened with Pages 5.
Some Pages '09 files have problems with Pages 5 because it removed so many features.

Pdf docs can not be opened in Firefox 3.6.13 on Win7 Pro

I recently installed Firefox 3.6.13 on brand new Dell Vostro with Win7 Pro. Whenever I try to download/open PDF docs, I get a blank screen.
The same docs open on IE8 just fine. Also, the same docs open fine on my other laptop with Firefox on XP Pro.
I have experienced this problem every time, on multiple web sites -- just can not open the pdf docs/web pages.
What gives.

why i can't open megaupload.com and fileserve.com page?? if i'am open it, the "problem loading page" will appear. i don't know whats the problem is. can u help me? its difficult for me to download whatever that using this both page..

Does the iPod connect to other networks?
Do other device connect?
Did the iPod connect to this network before?
Try:
- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>GeneralReset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Pages Document can't be opened

I am using pages on my iPad. I have been working for several weeks on a document. I tried to open the document on my iPad and it says "document can't not be opened". When I go to pages for iCloud and try to open the document I get the message "You need a newer version of pages for iCloud to open this document".
Is there anyway to recover my document? I have hours and hours of work and I would hate to lose it.

Pages files can't be open

Hi, I have written a personal travelling report, 135 pages, 175 MB with a lot of pictures transferred from iPhoto into Pages 8. In the finder I can see the photos, but I can't open the file with Pages.
Has somebody an idea how to solve this problem. Took me a lot of time....

I suggest that you buy a retail copy of iWork '09 from Amazon or eBay & then update to the new iWork apps in the Mac App Store. You might check this link for the iWork '09 trial. I have no idea if it is still available.

When saving an iWork Pages doc, can it autofill name as first text of page?

Like a Microsoft Word feature, can you set Pages (with a preference or script etc) to suggest the first text of the document as the filename?
For example, I always have an overview title at the start of my documents before the text, eg

When I save the document, it always has 'Untitled' as the default name, but can I change this to suggest 'Synaptic transmission' right away?

Can't open Pages docs despite upgrading

I have newly edited Pages docs that I cannot open despite my system telling me that all Apps are up to date and that the latest Pages is "installed".
My OS has been updated too. What's up? I get this error message repeatedly no matter what I try.

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Earlier version of Pages 5 can not open Pages 5.2 files.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened elsewhere is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Can't open old page docs in the 5.2 page

Please, can anyone help me? I have few documents that I can't open in the new version of page 5.2. I try to open them and I got this message: the doc.pages-tef can't be open. Help?

The tef file is an iCloud file.
Maybe turn it off for a while and do something else before restarting it to give it time to reset.
