Parameters not from database
Hi,
I want to have a few parameters in my report that does not come from the database. Those parameters are numeric numbers with possibly a fraction.
How can I define a report parameter that does not come from the universe?

Hi Patrick,
This is not possible in WebI. However, you can define a prompt in the universe that does not link to a db.
Option 1
Create an object with a prompt in it.
@prompt('select number','N',{0,1,2,3},mono,free)
If you bring this into you results you will be prompted for the value without a restriction on the db. You can get the value returned in the UserResponse function.
Option 2
Create a condition that always evaluates to true
my_field =
case
when @prompt('select number','N',{'0','1','2','3'},mono,free) = 0
then my_field
else my_field
End

I have gone through the link and as per the link
navigate to the Application Builder for your application.
click on the Shared Components icon
click the Images icon
click Create to upload a new image
click Browse... to locate an image on your local filesystem
make sure you remember the name of the image, for example: my_logo.gif
When I click on Application Builder I am not able to see shared Components.
I am able to see a Shared Components in a page definiton only.
Could you please let me know where Can I find this Shared components option.

loop at itab into work-area.

Creation parameters not taking effect after database creation in 10.1.0.4
I created a database using DBCA, changed the default nls settings, then finished the database creation.
The alert log reports the parameters as different than the defaults
However, when starting the instance, the nls parameters are only set at the instance level and not the database level.
Has anyone seen something similar in 10.1.0.4?

NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS is the one you set when you do Create Database.
NLS_INSTANCE_PARAMETERS is the one you set in your spfile when you start instance.
So if you didn't set NLS_INSTANCE_PARAMETERS in spfile, then instance will start with NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS
And alter session will over write them all.
It's not new behavior in 10.2.0.4

When a new database is created during the execution of the CREATE DATABASE statement, the NLS-related database configuration is established. The current NLS instance parameters are stored in the data dictionary along with the database and national character sets. The NLS instance parameters are read from the initialization parameter file at instance startup.

Applications can check the session, instance, and database NLS parameters by querying the following data dictionary views:
NLS_SESSION_PARAMETERS shows the NLS parameters and their values for the session that is querying the view. It does not show information about the character set.
NLS_INSTANCE_PARAMETERS shows the current NLS instance parameters that have been explicitly set and the values of the NLS instance parameters.
NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS shows the values of the NLS parameters for the database. The values are stored in the database. -
Getting response from Database by sending in parameters

I am providing parameter which supplies string values to query the database using adapter. I can see the invoke activity sending the string value to the database, but respnse message does not contain anthing.
Can someone please tell me how to retrieve records from database by suplying parmeter value?

use a simple stored procedure or pl/sql function and specify the input and output parameters. We can send any no of parameters to a function and a function can able to return a value. so you can achieve your requirement using pl/sql functions. Learn about that more.
when you will define ParterLink (using DBAdapter browing databse to select your function ), you shud be able to view one OUT parameter with datatype what you have mentioned earlier in pl/sql function. When you define Invoke for that Parterlink, you should get Invoke Output variable with output variable (having name of that function.)
If you cannot browse the function in your DB Adapter, just make sure that the user you have defined in DB Adapter has enough privileges to access that function.

Why does "SELECT * FROM [database].[schema].[table]" not work in Azure ?
Hi all
In Microsoft Azure I have 2 databases.
I work since more than 10 years with T-SQL and I always use
fully qualified object names, means "[database].[schema].[table]".
When I now make a connection to my database "A" in Azure and
write a Query against database "B" ("SELECT * FROM [B].[schema].[table]")
I get an exception. Of course when I connect to database "B" it works
but again not to database "A". When I use "SELECT * FROM [schema].[table]"
with the right database connected, it also works in Azure.
Hope you understand what I mean :-)
In MS-SQL, this of course works fine.
Well my question is: What sense does this make ??
Do I now have to re-write everything just for azure or will this behavior changed sometimes ?
I know MS-SQL is not the same like Azure-SQL, but hey; does Microsoft think all projects have only one database ?? :-)

According to your description, you want to retrieval data cross database in SQL Azure, right?
As June said, Currently cross database joins are not supported in SQL Azure. Also you cannot change database mid query so you cannot, for example, put a USE [MyDB] in your query either. Please refer to the link below to see the details.

Logon to the OS with user <sid>adm, open a command prompt (or terminal) and type <b>r3trans -d</b> if the result is 0000 the DB is up and running, if the result is 0012 the DB is down.
This works for all OS and all DB's

Hi All,
I have a problem on Excel 2007 while refreshing (for pivot table) data from SQL Server view:
"Data could not be retrieved from database. Check the database server or contact your database administrator. Make sure that external database is availiable, and then try the operation again"
Excel file is distributed on about 20 workstations in network with the same Excel version, and problem occurs only on one station. I have checked credentials and connection between workstation and server and it seems to be ok.
Any ideas?it is problem, because sql server is not member of domain... so I'm using sql aunthentication.
strange thing is that from any other workstations (aldo in domain) it works fine when providing SQL user. I'm supposing that it is problem with some excel settings -

and it will not update the Default Value from the Backend (MSSQL) also.

Jsp is calling servlet and servlet calls java class file. and javaclass file retrieves data from database and sends it back to servlet. But my problem is javaclass file doesnt return the value to servlet and print. Here is my code

The trouble in "<default>:" - if you set XML_PATH as C:\DATA_FILE\www.xml instead <default>:C:\DATA_FILE\www.xml- it will work correctly.

How to gather option values from database in jsp

my problem is that i have to populate the optional values that user has to selecet his choice .
we could have done it by :
<optional value="item1">item1
<optional value="item2">item2
</select>
but in our database if new category of item is enlisted then what ??? ,thats why we go for populating the values from fetching from database by simple class & populate values in the optional values.

You need to invoke a method from your jsp file which interacts with the database. If you are following the MVC pattern which segregates the View and Contoller part, invoke the controller jsp from your View using the include tag.
Say this is the View.jsp
