Parsing String to XML Attribute bug

Hello!
I'm trying to convert String to org.w3c.dom.Document with javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilder, but when I check my XML Document after creating, I find that all the Attributes are like "" or "
 ". Does anyone have some idea why that problem is and how it can be solved?
Thanks a lot!
Svigi

There are lots of bug reports about Java 5's built-in XML parser screwing up on attribute values. Try forcing Java to use the current version of Xerces (download it) instead of whatever it has built in, if that seems to apply to you. On the other hand it's possible that the bug is in your code too.

  • Format String using XML attributes

    I need to format a string based on attributes from a schema. I am attempting to do this using an Assign activity and the java embedded format string function. Here is a simplified version of what I am trying to do:
    oraext:format-string('Service Error COD={0}', bpws:getVariableData('caXMLError','/CAXMLERROR/CLIERR/@COD'))
    When I execute this line I get:
    XPath expression failed to execute. An error occurs while processing the XPath expression; the expression is oraext:format-string('Service Error COD={0} ',bpws:getVariableData('caXMLError','/CAXMLERROR/CLIERR/@COD')). The XPath expression failed to execute;
    The value at bpws:getVariableData('caXMLError','/CAXMLERROR/CLIERR/@COD' is valid because I can create a dummy xsd:string variable and set it equal to that.
    I also tried to wrap the getVariableData with the get_content_as_string methods and neither worked. I also verified that my format-string function is working because when I substitute just a plain string like ‘T01’ the string is successfully created.
    Any ideas what I am doing wrong or how I can accomplish this?

    If the xml document is to be stored in the Oracle database with the XML SQL Utility, defne elements instead of attributes. XSU utility does not map the attributes of an xml document to the database table.

    try setting the Outbound Response HTTP transport header
    http:Content-Type=text/xml
    or application/xml (even better)
    (and of course you should make sure you have fn-bea:inlinedXml() function to turn the String into a XmlObject)

  • Parse and output XML document while preserving attribute order

    QUESTION: How can I take in an element with attributes from an XML and output the same element and attributes while preserving the order of those attributes?
    The following code will parse and XML document and generate (practically) unchanged output. However, all attributes are ordered a-z
    Example: The following element
    <work_item_type work_item_db_site="0000000000000000" work_item_db_id="0" work_item_type_code="3" user_tag_ident="Step" name="Work Step" gmt_last_updated="2008-12-31T18:00:00.000000000" last_upd_db_site="0000000000000000" last_upd_db_id="0" rstat_type_code="1">
    </work_item_type>is output as:
    <work_item_type gmt_last_updated="2008-12-31T18:00:00.000000000" last_upd_db_id="0" last_upd_db_site="0000000000000000" name="Work Step" rstat_type_code="1" user_tag_ident="Step" work_item_db_id="0" work_item_db_site="0000000000000000" work_item_type_code="3">
    </work_item_type>As you may notice, there is no difference in these besides order of the attributes!
    I am convened that the problem is not in the stylesheet.xslt but if you are not then it is posted bellow.
    Please, someone help me out with this! I have a feeling the solution is simple
    The following take the XML from source.xml and outputs it to DEST_filename with attributes in a-z order
    Code:
    private void OutputFile(String DEST_filename, String style_filename){
         //StreamSource stylesheet = new StreamSource(style_filename);
         try{
              File dest_file = new File(DEST_filename);
              if(!dest_file.exists())
                  dest_file.createNewFile();
              TransformerFactory tranFactory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
              Transformer aTransformer = tranFactory.newTransformer();
              aTransformer.setOutputProperty(OutputKeys.ENCODING, "UTF-8");
              Source src = new DOMSource("source.xml");
              Result dest = new StreamResult(dest_file);
              aTransformer.transform(src, dest);
              System.out.println("Finished");
         catch(Exception e){
              System.err.print(e);
              System.exit(-1);
        }

    You can't. The reason is, the XML Recommendation explicitly says the order of attributes is not significant. Therefore conforming XML serializers won't treat it as if it were significant.
    If you have an environment where you think that the order of attributes is significant, your first step should be to reconsider. Possibly it isn't really significant and you are over-reaching in some way. Or possibly someone writing requirements is ignorant of this fact and the requirement can be discarded.
    Or possibly your output is being given to somebody else who has a defective parser which expects the attributes to be in a particular order. You could quote the XML Recommendation to those people but often XML bozos are resistant to change. If you're stuck writing for that parser then you'll have to apply some non-XML processing to your output to fix it up on their behalf.

  • XML string to XML parsing in JCD

    I have stored an XML file as a CLOB in the Oracle DB. While fetching this data into JCD using Oracle OTD, I am getting this CLOB field as a string containing the XML. Now I want to parse this XML string to XML, as I need to map the individual fields to an XSD OTD, which will be my output.
    Kindly suggest a way to achieve this.

    An XSD OTD has an unmarshalFromString() method:
    inputFormat.unmarshalFromString( strData );
    When putting the XML into the CLOB it could be a good idea to wrap an outputstream into a Writer object in order to make certain that the encoding is correct, depending how the data is represented. When retrieving CLOB data using getCharacterStream() you will get a Reader object where the encoding is already given.

         <choice id ='2' value='B +ve'/>

    There are lot of Java XML parsing API's available, e.g. JAXP, DOM4J, JXPath, etc.
    Of course you can also write it yourself. Look which methods the String API offers you, e.g. substring and *indexOf.

  • A bug in XML::attributes()

    In the past, if you run these:
    var xml:XML = <xml a="1" b="2"/>
    var a:XML = xml.attributes()[0];
    trace(a.toXMLString());
    you'll get a right callback like:
    <a>1</a>
    But if you run the same in the latest version,
    you'll get a callback like:
    1
    The xml objects in the xmlist returned from attributes() is
    unexpected in the latest version.
    for another example:
    In early version:
    var xml:XML = <xml a="1" b="2"/>
    var list:XMLList = xml.attributes();
    var xml2:XML = <xml><node/></xml>
    xml2.appendChild(list[0]);
    trace(xml2.toXMLString());
    you will get a right one :
    <xml>
    <node/>
    <a>1</a>
    </xml>
    current version you will get a terrible callback:
    <xml>
    <node/>
    1
    </xml>
    How can I accept with this bug? Please check your SDK and

    now I want to parse the XML string and insert into the database... If any one has the idea let me know.

    Regards,

    Your question is not clear.
    You have a client applicaton which invokes a BPEL process and receives XML response from BPEL. Then you want to parse this response XML in your client application?
    Or you are running a BPEL process which invokes a service and receives an XML response. Then you want to parse this XML response in BPEL before your process can proceed?
    I have to assume that you are working with a string and then you want to convert the string into XML, and then parse the XML. If this is the case, then take a look at the ora:parseEscapedXML(contentString) function. You can use this in the expression editor in JDev.

  • & and &amp; parser in XML attributes

    Let's say we have :
    cartoon="Tom & Jerry"
    has an attribute in our XML.
    Well Spry explodes and doesn't load the XML.
    The Spry parser doesn't seam to work. Any solution?

    & characters in XML attributes need to be entity encoded.
    Adding your attribute as is to an existing XML file and loading it
    in FireFox causes it to throw a "not well-formed" error. IE just
    silently fails.
    Try changing it to cartoon="Tom &amp; Jerry", that should
    work.
    On the Spry end of things, we could do a better Job about
    reporting XML format errors, but in IE it silently fails.
