Pass a string in Oracle Procedure

Hi,
I have a procedure and i want to pass 1,2 as a single parameter and inside the procedure I will check where product in (parameter )
Pls help
Thanks
Regards
Amit

Hey Amit,
Can you be more elaborate with your question?
Are you asking,
How to call the procedure in obiee? or
is it related to calling the procedure in db?
We cannot guess ur requirement.
If you want to call the procedure in obiee use evaluate function.
like
evaluate('procedure_name(%1,%2)',parameter1,parameter2)

• Passing SQL string to Stored Procedure

I have the following package:
CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE PKG_QUERY

TYPE CURSOR_TYPE IS REF CURSOR;
PROCEDURE SP_QUERY(QUERY IN OUT CURSOR_TYPE);
END;
CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY PKG_QUERY

PROCEDURE SP_QUERY(QUERY IN OUT CURSOR_TYPE, IN_SQL IN VARCHAR2)
AS
BEGIN
OPEN QUERY FOR IN_SQL;
END;
END;
Here is what I would like to do. I would like to pass an SQL string that I build in my middle tier and pass it to the SP_QUERY procedure as IN_SQL. I can't seem to get this to compile. If I explicitly type in a select statement (ex. OPEN QUERY FOR SELECT * FROM table), it works fine. Can I pass in an SQL statement as a string and execute the query? Any help that anyone can offer would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!
Thanks for any help you can offer,
Michael

String bigString = getBigString(); // wherever it comes from
ByteArrayInputStream bais =
new ByteArrayInputStream(bigString.getBytes());
PreparedStatement ps = conn.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO SOMETABLE VALUES(?)");
//above is just an example, use your insert statement
ps.setAsciiStream(1,bais,bigString.length());Of course, that is assuming you have some type of CLOB in your database.

• How to pass ARRAY to Oracle Procedure

Hi
We are using BC4J with JSP in our project. We need to send an Array to the procedure.
Could somebody provide some info as how this can be achieved.

A while back, I used a SQLJ client to call a Java (also SQLJ) stored procedure and I needed to pass an array of strings to the procedure. I did something like this:
Java Class that was loaded in DB:
public class MyClass
// method that the stored procedure uses
public static void CALL_DOSTUFF(String a,
oracle.sql.ARRAY b,
oracle.sql.ARRAY c)
String[] bb = (String[])b.getArray();
String[] cc = (String[])c.getArray();
doStuff(a,bb,cc);
public static void doStuff(String a,
String[] b,
String[] c)
// process the input
In the database I added the type:
create or replace type STR_ARRAY as table of varchar2(20);
and the procedure:
create or replace procedure CALL_DOSTUFF(a varchar2,
b STR_ARRAY,
c STR_ARRAY)
as
language java
name 'MyClass.CALL_DOSTUFF(java.lang.String,
oracle.sql.ARRAY,
oracle.sql.ARRAY)';
I then used jpub to publish a STR_ARRAY.java file. I compiled this and used it with my SQLJ client to call to the stored procedure. The STR_ARRAY constructor takes a String[], so you do something like this in the SQLJ client:
String x = "X";
String y = {"y1","y2"};
String z = {"z1","z2"};
STR_ARRAY y1 = new STR_ARRAY(y);
STR_ARRAY z1 = new STR_ARRAY(z);
#sql {CALL CALL_DOSTUFF(:x,:y1,:z1)};
Hope this helps.

• OCI 22303 exception - Pass object to type Record in oracle procedure

Recently i had my first encounter with ODP.NET and Oracle. I'm developing a a datalayer that can access a stored procedure on an Oracle database.
The problem i'm having is the following:
I'm using this method to pass my parameters to the procedure: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cs/CustomObject_Oracle.aspx
I have also attempted this approach:
http://developergeeks.com/article/48/3-steps-to-implement-oracle-udt-in-odpnet
I always get the message (litteraly):
Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleException: OCI-22303: type "e;PAC$WEBSHOP_PROCS"."CUSTOMER_IN_RECTYPE" not found.
It sounds weird to me, but what are the &quotes doing here in the error message I see?
Some code i use:
OracleParameter objParam = new OracleParameter
OracleDbType = OracleDbType.Object,
Direction = ParameterDirection.Input,
ParameterName = "PAC$WEBSHOP_PROCS.P_CUSTOMER_IN",
UdtTypeName = "PAC$WEBSHOP_PROCS.WEBSHOP_PROCS.CUSTOMER_IN_RECTYPE",
Value = card
The information i have about the Oracle procedure:
CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE PAC$WEBSHOP_PROCS IS
TYPE CUSTOMER_IN_RECTYPE IS RECORD
(CUS_STO_IDENTIFIER NUMBER(2)
,CUS_IDENTIFIER NUMBER(6)
,CH_IDENTIFIER NUMBER(2)
,CH_CARD_VERSION NUMBER(1)
PROCEDURE PRC$WS_VALIDATE_CARD
(P_CUSTOMER_IN IN PAC$WEBSHOP_PROCS.CUSTOMER_IN_RECTYPE
,P_RETURN_CODE IN OUT NUMBER
Any help to cover my problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thx

The only way to call it as is would be via an anonymous plsql block, where you create the record type inside the block. Interacting with the block via ODP would be limited to scalar values.
Here's a PLSQL example just to demonstrate. Here, v1 and v2 are bind variables of scalar type, which you'd setup/bind via ODP instead of the SQL prompt as I did, but I thought this might keep things simpler for the example.
The other choice would be to write a wrapper procedure that takes type OBJECT that you can call from ODP, and inside that procedure convert them to/from RECORD and call the original procedure.
Hope it helps,
Greg

• Unable to pass parameter in oracle procedure through unix shell script

Hi Experts,
I have oracle procedure where in I have to pass the value of procedure parameter through unix script.
Follwoing is the sample procedure which i tried to exceute from the unix.
Procedure:
create or replace procedure OWNER.PRC_TESTING_OWNER(OWNER IN VARCHAR2) AS
sql_stmt varchar2(1000) := NULL;
v_count number := 0;
v_owner varchar2(100) := owner;
begin
sql_stmt:='select count(1) from '||v_owner||'.EMP@infodb where rownum<=10';
execute immediate sql_stmt into v_count;
DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(sql_stmt);
DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(v_count);
END;The script which I used is:
Unix
#!/bin/ksh
parm=$1
echo start
sqlplus -s scott@DEV/tiger <<EOF >>result_1.txt
set serveroutput on;
select '$parm' from dual;
exec owner.PRC_TESTING_OWNER('$parm');
EOFThe script is working fine that is i am able to pass to parameter value through unix shell script. :)
But if I want to pass the value of the owner in cursor , I am unable to pass this value through unix.
Following the procedure which i am trying to implement.

used in cursor? :(
Can anybody help me regarding the same?
Thanks in Advance !! :D

It's not the parameter in the cursor that is the problem, it's that you are trying to use static SQL for something that won't be known until run time (the owner of the table).
You would need to use something like ...
declare
l_owner        varchar2(30) := 'SCOTT';
l_ref_cursor   sys_refcursor;
type l_ename_tab is table of scott.emp.ename%type;
l_ename_array  l_ename_tab;
begin
open l_ref_cursor for
'select ename
from ' || l_owner || '.emp';
loop
fetch l_ref_cursor bulk collect into l_ename_array limit 10;
exit when l_ename_array.COUNT = 0;
for x in 1 .. l_ename_array.count
loop
dbms_output.put_line(l_ename_array(x));
end loop;
end loop;
close l_ref_cursor;
end;

• Passing comma separated string to stored procedure

Hi,
There is thread with same query I created earlier and that was answered. That solution worked if I pass comma separated string containing IDs. But due to changes in the logic, I have to pass usernames instead of userIDs. I tried to modify the solution provided to use with this.

Hi,
I modified the query as per the solution provided by isotope, after which the logic changed and I am passing username instead of userID in comma separated string.
Following is the changes SP, which does not throw any error, but no data is returned.
PROCEDURE GetAllPersonalQueue (p_user_name in nvarchar2, TestQID OUT Test.refcurQID, TestPubs OUT Test.refcurPubs
) is
--local variable

• Passing a table into a procedure to be used in a curor

Hi,
I'm using Oracle 9.2.0.6
I have a procedure that searches all objects for a passed in string value. The procedure is below.
CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE Find_String (
pin_referenced_name IN dba_dependencies.referenced_name%TYPE)
IS
cursor cur_get_dependancy
is
SELECT distinct owner, name, type
FROM [email protected]
WHERE lower(referenced_name) = lower(pin_referenced_name) --'ftbv_salesrep_all_1d'
AND referenced_type != 'SYNONYM'
order by name;
v_owner  varchar2(40);
v_name   varchar2(50);
v_type   varchar2(40);
BEGIN
dbms_output.put_line(upper(pin_referenced_name)||' is found in the following objects.');
dbms_output.put_line(' ');
dbms_output.put_line(RPAD('OWNER', 30, ' ')||RPAD('NAME', 60, ' ')||RPAD('OBJECT TYPE', 30, ' '));
dbms_output.put_line('-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------');
FOR i IN cur_get_dependancy
LOOP
v_owner := RPAD(i.owner, 30, ' ');
v_name  := RPAD(i.name, 45, ' ');
v_type  := RPAD(i.type, 30, ' ');
dbms_output.put_line(v_owner ||v_name|| v_type);
END LOOP;
END find_string;I was wondering if there's any way I could pass in the table name, and the name of the DB link to be used in the cursor, into the procedure and rig the cursor to be able to accept that as a parameter. I want our users to be able to search different databases using this utility code.
I thought of NDS, and that would be a way to do it, however I'm not sure if I could use an NDS statement in conjunction with a cursor.
Does anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks

• How to pass a string value from XL sheet cell to SQL query.

Hi,

.Name = "Query from gg"
Thanks,
Priya

What does "XL" (whatever that is) have to do with Crystal Reports which is what you are obviously working with have to do with the Oracle database?
The rules for using Crystal with Oracle are quite clearly described in all the Crystal Reports docs ... you MUST use IN OUT ref cursors unless you are doing direct table or view access.

• Problem in XML Parsing via oracle procedure...

Hi,
I wrote one oracle procedure for xml parsing.
I have one valid xml file which has "encode UTF-8". The XML file contains some comments also. While we are parsing the xml file at that time it is not parse successfully and also it is not giving any error. After the following line it is skip rest of the codes(lines).
dbms_xmlparser.parseclob(l_parser, l_clob);
At the end of the xml file there are some comments which is like "<!-- abc --> ".
When I am changing the "encode UTF-8 to ISO-88596-1" & removing the comments which wrote on bottom of the file then its working fine, but the files which we are getting from the system is contains the encode UTF-8 and we don't want to preprocess on that xml files. Even if we will do that via shell script or perl script then it will be overhead to the system and in a single stroke our system will parse more than 5k xml files, so if we will do some preprocess on it, it will take some more time approx 1-2 minutes extra.
So, If someone knows any solution of this problem, then please guide & help me on this.

Sorry Odie,
I am new to this site as well as PL/SQL. I am giving additional details which you had mentioned in your last comments.
our Oracle Database version is "10.2.0.4.0"
The structure of target table Instrument_Details is as follows:
Create table Instrument_Details (
instrument_id          Integer  Primary Key,
provider_name          Varchar2(32),
version_number          Varchar2(32),
location_id                  Integer,
installation_date             Date,
granularity                  Integer,
time_out                  Integer );
Note:- Here test_hem is alias of Instrument_details.
Here instrument_id is a primary key.
provider_name contains the child2 xml tag value.
version_number contains the child1 xml tag value.
location_id contains the newid/id value which is map to other table which fetching the location name corresponding to the location_id.
installation_date contains the date xml tag value.
Now we have created one mapping tables where we mapped the xml tag values "mt" with table column name means "abc1 = granularity", "abc2 = time_out" in that table.
these table column value are written under mvalue xml tag.
_Our Database Character set is_:-
NLS_CHARACTERSET WE8ISO8859P1
Now as you suggest me to format your code. I am writing the xml code and procedure code again.
My xml file structure is as follows:-

• Oracle Procedure returning more number of records

Hi,
I have created an Oracle Procedure which is supposed to fetch a record as per the input parameter passed.
The core query in the procedure is as below -
SELECT DISTINCT col1 FROM my_tab WHERE col2 = 'Input parameter'
Few of the input parms (col2) has more number of records (col1) and so the procedure gives an error like -
'ORA-01422: exact fetch returns more than requested number of rows'
Could you please let me know how can I modify the procedure so that it would return more number of records as the case may be?
Thank you!

It still gives me the same error when it encounters more than one output.Yes, I'm sure it does.
But we can't tell you how to fix it because we don't know what you want.
What's the purpose of the procedure?
Is it to "spell check" the name of an intermediary? If so, you'll need to figure out what to do when you have more then one person with the same name.
You can add AND ROWNUM = 1. Or perhaps you can trap the too_many_rows exception.
Your procedure doesn't return anything (no out variables). Is that correct?
Or is the purpose of the procedure to return the ID of the matching name?

echo " ROLLBACK;"
echo "END;"
echo "/" ) | sqlplus -s $USER/$PASSWORD@$SID
Here $error_code is out paramter. All varaibles passed in process are declared with export command.
When executing .sh it gives below error
