Pass output from PL/SQL proc back to ODI for logging

Hi,
In ODI (10g), is there any way to pass output from a PL/SQL procedure back to the calling stage?
I am working on the run time of a batch, one part of which calls a procedure and so currently black box.
I'd like to instrument the proc so that I can see in Operator some kind of timed activity so that I can profile its activity better.
The best I've had suggested so far is to write out to file from the procedure and then use ODI to parse this and spit it out in the stage log. I don't like this approach for two reasons:
1) Our DBAs quite rightly get very itchy with the privs required for writing to files, and another app to read from the same
2) It's messy :)
Any ideas?

I don't know ODI. However if you are calling a stored proc procA and you have control over what you call, at the very least you could write a wrapper procB as

Yes, you can use the sqlplus exit command to return a value but there are couple of limitations. The return value must be a number (enforced by sqlplus), and it must be less than 256, and on some operating systems less than 128.

I am Automating STATSPACK reporting by modifying the sprepins.sql script.
Using DBMS_JOB I take the snap of the database and at the end of the day the cron job creates the statspack report and emails it to me.
I am storing the snapshot ids in the database and when running the report picking up the recent ids(begin snap and end snap).
From the sprepins.sql script

could it be the begin_ and end_ Colums of your query?
Seems SQL*PLUS hs parsing problems?
try to fetch another column from that table
and see if the error raises again.

From a user prompt will iniate many user table selections.   And the outputs of each table selection will be used as inputs for the next table selection

Sorry, it's unclear what you want to do.
Whenever you have a problem, it helps to be as specific as you can.
Post a little sampel data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements) and the results you want from that data. Since your problem involves parameters, give a couple of sets of parameters, and the results you want for each set, given the same data.
Are you saying that, after the user enters one set of parameters, you will need to run a variation of this query:
SELECT a.assembly_item_id, a.organization_id, a.bill_sequence_id, b.bom_item_type, b.bill_sequence_id, b.component_item_id
FROM    bom_structures_b a, bom_components_b b
WHERE   a.assembly_item_id = '303'
AND
        a.organization_id = '207'

        b.bill_sequence_id = a.bill_sequence_id
AND
        b.bom_item_type = '4';several times? What will be different each time? Will the hard-coded strings in the WHERE clause ('303', '207' and '4') be values from the earlier query?
Do you really want to run this query several times, or would you rather run one query, and have it produce results for all the relevant values? (That would probably be eaisest and less error-prone). When you post your desired results, post what you would most like to see. If something else is acceptable, describe it.
You can write SQL*Plus scripts to use parameters (substitution variables.
For example, you can write a query that says:
WHERE   a.assembly_item_id     = '&1'
AND     a.organization_id      = '&2'
AND     b.bill_sequence_id      = a.bill_sequence_id
AND     b.bom_item_type      = '&3';and call it like this
@Section_03A_bom_structures_b 303 207 4You can have a query output several such rows (for example:

Getting result set in OCCI from PL/SQL proc

Here are the steps you need to follow to deal with REF CURSORS :
1. Use setSQL to prepare your SQL statement (an anonymous PL/SQL block that will call the procedure)
2. Call registerOutParam for the desired parameter
e.g., stmt->registerOutParam (1, OCCICURSOR);
(the REF CURSOR is the first and only parameter here)
3. Execute the statement
4. Call getCursor()

5. Call rs->next(), rs->getXXX() ...

JDev generated webservices encodes XML output from PL/SQL procedure

I have a PL/SQL packaged procedure which takes some input parameters and produces one output parameter. The output parameter is of type CLOB and after the procedure has run, it contains a big piece of XML data.
Using JDeveloper 10.1.3.1, I've published this packaged procedure as a webservice. The generated webservice is fine and works, except for one tiny little issue: the XML that is taken from the output parameter is encoded.
Here is an example of the SOAP message that the webservice returns:

How can I change the generated webservice, so the output from the PL/SQL package is used as is instead of being encoded?

Update: I've tested a bit more by adding some output statements to the java code that JDeveloper generated. I'm now 100% sure the PL/SQL code gives the XML data correctly to the webservice.
At this moment my guess is that somewhere in the WSDL definition there is something that enables the encoding of the data. But I'm not sure.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

You have to put "set serveroutput on" if you use package dbms_output or check you path for spool file

I am some complex calcualtions in the report and the report has a fixed number of columns and reports. Is there any way i can do all the programming in pl\sql and call this procedure/package from ADF and return the pl\sql table type?
Can i create a VO from pl\sql table?

I try to build a link with a pl/sql procedure to a portal page which contains a java portlet. this link should pass a non qualified parameter to the page ... I try to get this parameter doing so : pr.getParameter("myparam") but nothing's work ...

Unable to pass object from pl-sql to wps

I am trying to pass an object to a different system via WPS 6.2. I am using WPS 6.2 and Oracle 10g.
I want to pass an array of objects returned from a Pl Sql procedure as an output to WPS. However, am unable the object values are not being currently received by WPS. WPS calls this procedure (PlSql), which returns an array of objects. However, it reads the object values as '???'. We tried to write them in an XML

Have you tried using UTL_SMTP? It uses UTL_TCP and encapsulates a lot of the stuff you're doing manually, so might be easier. Let me know if you need an example.

Hi,
You can redirect the standard output to the console (i.e., the SQL output) using the
DBMS_JAVA.SET_OUTPUT() method.
SQL> SET SERVEROUTPUT ON
SQL> call dbms_java.set_output (5000);But, the output is only printed when the stored procedure exits, and this setting works only for one call (i.e., the SQL call that immediately follows the invocation of DBMS_JAVA.SET_OUTPUT()). The minumum and default value is 2,000 characters and the maximum is 1,000,000 (1 million) characters. Notice the “SET SERVEROUTPUT ON” which enables displaying the outputs of stored procedures (Java or PL/SQL blocks) in SQL*Plus.

Passing Value from a Popup Window Back to the Parent Window

I am using JSF. I try to pass a value that is entered by users in the popup window back to a text field in the parent window.

I have made some modifications to the code in the popup window. The error reported in my previous posting is gone. But, I still have several problems:
1. syntax error in the popup window jsp page: line 45, char 21, syntax error, ..., Do you want to continue running script on this page?2. The popup window does not close after I click on the OK button that I coded in the popup window jsp.
3. The value that I entered in the popup window eventually gets passed back to the text field in the parent window only if I re-run the application.

Passing value from Servlet to JSP back to Servlet

Hi all,
I have a jsp page where a user submits a search string into a text box. The jsp forwards to a servlet which calls some java classes and checks a database. The classes generate a string which contains some html. The servlet then forwards back to the jsp which displays the the string:
<c:out escapeXml="false" value="${requestScope.ampList}" />The user then performs another action on this outputted html which is a listbox and when the user clicks on the listbox the onchange method submits the form. The JSP forwards the listbox value and I would like it to forward the "ampList" as well but I cant figure out how to do this.
Using a hidden input does not work because the string contains HTML. Does anyone have any ideas. I can just keep the search string stored a hidden input box but I would prefer not to regenerate the "ampList" as it means accessing the database again which will cause performance issues.

Writing that message gave me an idea which worked:

How to pass ouput from PL/SQL to perl script

I have a PL/SQL package which returns REF CURSOR. How can I pass this ref cursor to perl script?
can any one help me in this matter, pl? it is very very urgent.
