Pass referance of veriable to method in class

Hi friends,
I am trying to use ABAP object. In that i am trying to use reference variable which is pass to method in class. Whatever the operation perform on that variable should be reflected to original variable at main method.
So how can I do that.

Hi Amit,
U can try it out. Using Pass by Value it is possible for U to access the variable inside the method.
ex:-
DATA : num type i.
CLASS c1 definition.
  PUBLIC SECTION.
  METHODS : meth1 IMPORTING INPUT1 TYPE I
                              VALUE(INPUT2) TYPE I.
ENDCLASS.                    "c1 DEFINITION
CLASS c1 implementation.
  METHOD : meth1.
    " INPUT1 = 2. " input parameters passed by reference cannot be changed within the method
    INPUT2 = 4.
    WRITE : /5 'Input Parameters PASSED BY VALUE alone can be changed inside METHOD : ' ,INPUT1.
  ENDMETHOD.
ENDCLASS.                    "c1 IMPLEMENTATION
START-OF-SELECTION.
DATA :oref TYPE ref TO c1.
CREATE OBJECT : oref.
  num = 5.
CALL METHOD : oref->meth1 EXPORTING  INPUT1 = 3
                                     INPUT2 = num.
<u>Reward Points if Useful.</u>

  • Passing internal table to a method of a Global Class

    Hi All,
    I have to pass a Select option (SO_RANGE) as a IMPORT parameter to a method of a global Class (while calling that method from a executable program).
    what Reference type should I give, while defining the IMPORT parameter for that method of class.
    SO_RANGE have structure of type (SIGN, OPTION, LOW and HIGH)
    Regards,
    Pankaj.

    You first need to define a type for range.
    for that goto->public section of your class and put following under TYPES
    TYPES : tr_matnr type range of mara-matnr .
    now you can use this tr_matnr in global class to define input parameter and in your program to define a variable .
    In your program define variable as
    DATA data_mat TYPE Classname=>tr_matnr
    To define workarea type use following.
    TYPES : t_matnr TYPE LINE OF tr_matnr .

  • Pass user selected variable to Entity implementation class

    Guys,
    I need to pass the user selected variable to Entity class. and looking for the best way to do this ......
    If user selected process1 or process2 then I need to call stored procedure right before the commit. So i need to pass the user selected process to entity class file.
    I am thinking about having a transient attribute on entity and set the value on front end..... so that value will be pass to the entity class file and in beforeCommit method i can check the value of transient variable and then call stored procedure
    is this a good approach or any other suggestions are greatly appreciated....
    thank you

    Thank you Timo and Jobinesh....
    Good suggestion Jobinesh... will start the implementation

  • How to call a java method so I can pass a file into the method

    I want to pass a file into a java method method from the main method. Can anyone give me some help as to how I pass the file into the method - do I pass the file name ? are there any special points I need to put in the methods signature etc ?
    FileReader file = new FileReader("Scores");
    BufferedReader infile = new BufferedReader(file);
    Where am I supposed to put the above text - in the main method or the one I want to pass the file into to?
    Thanks

    It's a matter of personal preference really. I would encapsulate all of the file-parsing logic in a separate class that implements an interface so that if in the future you want to start taking the integers from another source, e.g. a db, you wouldn't need to drastically alter your main application code. Probably something like this, (with an assumption that the numbers are delimited by a comma and a realisation that my file-handling routine sucks):
    public class MyApp{
    public static void main(String[] args){
    IntegerGather g = new FileIntegerGatherer();
    Integer[] result = g.getIntegers(args[0]);
    public interface IntegerGatherer{
    public Integer[] getIntegers(String location);
    import java.io.*;
    public class FileIntegerGatherer implements IntegerGatherer{
    public Integer[] getIntegers(String location){
    FileInputStream fs=null;
    try{
    File f = new File(location);
    fs = new FileInputStream(f);
    byte[] in = new byte[1024];
    StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
    while((fs.read(in))!=-1){
    sb.append(new String(in));
    StringTokenizer st = new StringTokenizer(sb.toString(),",");
    Integer[] result = new Integer[st.countTokens()];
    int count = 0;
    while(st.hasMoreTokens()){
    result[count]=Integer.valueOf(st.nextToken());
    count++;
    catch(IOException e){
    //something sensible here
    finally{
    if(fs!=null){
    try{
    fs.close();
    catch(IOException f){
    return result;
    Once compiled you could invoke it as java MyApp c:\myInts.txt
    Sorry if there are typos in there, I don't have an ide open ;->

  • Pass an array of a user defined class to a stored procedure in java

    Hi All,
    I am trying to pass an array of a user defined class as an input parameter to a stored procedure. So far i have done the following:
    Step 1: created an object type.
    CREATE TYPE department_type AS OBJECT (
    DNO NUMBER (10),
    NAME VARCHAR2 (50),
    LOCATION VARCHAR2 (50)
    Step 2: created a varray of the above type.
    CREATE TYPE dept_array1 AS TABLE OF department_type;
    Step 3:Created a package to insert the records.
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE objecttype
    AS
    PROCEDURE insert_object (d dept_array);
    END objecttype;
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY objecttype
    AS
    PROCEDURE insert_object (d dept_array)
    AS
    BEGIN
    FOR i IN d.FIRST .. d.LAST
    LOOP
    INSERT INTO department
    VALUES (d (i).dno,d (i).name,d (i).location);
    END LOOP;
    END insert_object;
    END objecttype;
    Step 4:Created a java class to map the columns of the object type.
    public class Department
    private double DNO;
    private String Name;
    private String Loation;
    public void setDNO(double DNO)
    this.DNO = DNO;
    public double getDNO()
    return DNO;
    public void setName(String Name)
    this.Name = Name;
    public String getName()
    return Name;
    public void setLoation(String Loation)
    this.Loation = Loation;
    public String getLoation()
    return Loation;
    Step 5: created a method to call the stored procedure.
    public static void main(String arg[]){
    try{
    Department d1 = new Department();
    d1.setDNO(1); d1.setName("Accounts"); d1.setLoation("LHR");
    Department d2 = new Department();
    d2.setDNO(2); d2.setName("HR"); d2.setLoation("ISB");
    Department[] deptArray = {d1,d2};
    OracleCallableStatement callStatement = null;
    DBConnection dbConnection= DBConnection.getInstance();
    Connection cn = dbConnection.getDBConnection(false); //using a framework to get connections
    ArrayDescriptor arrayDept = ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor("DEPT_ARRAY", cn);
    ARRAY deptArrayObject = new ARRAY(arrayDept, cn, deptArray); //I get an SQLException here
    callStatement = (OracleCallableStatement)cn.prepareCall("{call objecttype.insert_object(?)}");
    ((OracleCallableStatement)callStatement).setArray(1, deptArrayObject);
    callStatement.executeUpdate();
    cn.commit();
    catch(Exception e){
    System.out.println(e.toString());
    I get the following exception:
    java.sql.SQLException: Fail to convert to internal representation
    My question is can I pass an array to a stored procedure like this and if so please help me reslove the exception.
    Thank you in advance.

    OK I am back again and seems like talking to myself. Anyways i had a talk with one of the java developers in my team and he said that making an array of structs is not much use to them as they already have a java bean/VO class defined and they want to send an array of its objects to the database not structs so I made the following changes to their java class. (Again hoping some one will find this useful).
    Setp1: I implemented the SQLData interface on the department VO class.
    import java.sql.SQLData;
    import java.sql.SQLOutput;
    import java.sql.SQLInput;
    import java.sql.SQLException;
    public class Department implements SQLData
    private double DNO;
    private String Name;
    private String Location;
    public void setDNO(double DNO)
    this.DNO = DNO;
    public double getDNO()
    return DNO;
    public void setName(String Name)
    this.Name = Name;
    public String getName()
    return Name;
    public void setLocation(String Location)
    this.Location = Location;
    public String getLoation()
    return Location;
    public void readSQL(SQLInput stream, String typeName)throws SQLException
    public void writeSQL(SQLOutput stream)throws SQLException
    stream.writeDouble(this.DNO);
    stream.writeString(this.Name);
    stream.writeString(this.Location);
    public String getSQLTypeName() throws SQLException
    return "DOCCOMPLY.DEPARTMENT_TYPE";
    Step 2: I made the following changes to the main method.
    public static void main(String arg[]){
    try{
    Department d1 = new Department();
    d1.setDNO(1);
    d1.setName("CPM");
    d1.setLocation("LHR");
    Department d2 = new Department();
    d2.setDNO(2);
    d2.setName("Admin");
    d2.setLocation("ISB");
    Department[] deptArray = {d1,d2};
    OracleCallableStatement callStatement = null;
    DBConnection dbConnection= DBConnection.getInstance();
    Connection cn = dbConnection.getDBConnection(false);
    ArrayDescriptor arrayDept = ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor("DEPT_ARRAY", cn);
    ARRAY deptArrayObject = new ARRAY(arrayDept, cn, deptArray);
    callStatement = (OracleCallableStatement)cn.prepareCall("{call objecttype.insert_array_object(?)}");
    ((OracleCallableStatement)callStatement).setArray(1, deptArrayObject);
    callStatement.executeUpdate();
    cn.commit();
    catch(Exception e){
    System.out.println(e.toString());
    and it started working no more SQLException. (The changes to the department class were done manfully but they tell me JPublisher would have been better).

  • Passing select-options value in method

    How to pass select-options value in method ?
    Example:
    Select-options: carrid for spfli-carrid.
    class cl_myclass implementation.
    select  carrid connid from
    spfli where carrid in carrid.
    endclass.
    Thanks

    Hello Anee
    The coding of this functionality is quite simple:
    REPORT zmy_report.
    DATA:  go_myclass   TYPE REF TO zcl_myclass,
               gd_repid         TYPE syst-repid.
    PARAMETERS:
      p_bukrs   ...
    SELECT-OPTIONS:
      o_kunnr  ...
    START-OF-SELECTION.
      gd_repid = syst-repid.
      CREATE OBJECT go_myclass
        EXPORTING
          id_calling_program = gd_repid.
    And that's how your CONSTRUCTOR method should look like:
    METHOD constructor.  " IMPORTING parameter id_calling_program
    CALL FUNCTION 'RS_REFRESH_FROM_SELECTOPTIONS'
      EXPORTING
        CURR_REPORT = id_calling_report
      TABLES
        SELECTION_TABLE = me->mt_selopts.
    " NOTE: define mt_selopts as instance attribute of table type RSPARAMS_TT
    ENDMETHOD.
    Finally you have to extract the parameter and select-options from MT_SELOPTS.

      Uwe

  • Passing custom DTO to input method...

    Hi,
    Im attempting to create a workshop web service that accesses an EJB control. The
    method's input params require the passing of a custom built data transfer object
    (bean) that contains itself other objects. is there any way to do this via a web
    service thru workshop?

    John,
    A workshop web service (i.e. a JWS file) is analogous to a JSP/servlet. Any
    class (bean) that needs to be passed to an EJB Control method should be
    accessible to the contaning JWS.
    So the bean and all the objects contained/referenced by the bean should be
    available in any one of the following 3 ways:
    1. System CLASSPATH
    2. In the WEB-INF/lib or WEB-INF/classes directory of the Workshop project
    3. As a Java file in the Workshop project directory.
    I hope this answers your question. Do let me know if I can help further.

  • Passing an array from one method to another

    I am passing an array from my "load" method and passing it to be displayed in my "display" method in an applet .
    I made the array a class variable (to be able to pass it to the "display" method).
    The applet runs, but nothing seems to be in the array.The screen says applet started, but nothing else. There does not seem to be any CPU activity.
    Trying to debug this, I have tried to paint the screen during the array build. I never figured out how to do this. So I made this a non applet class, put it in debug, and the array seems to load okay.
    Any help is appreciated.
    This is the applet code:
    import java.applet.Applet;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.*;
    import java.net.*;
    public class urla extends java.applet.Applet
    int par1;
    int i = 1;
    int j = 20;
    int m = 0;
    int k = 0;
    String arr[] = new String[1000];
    String inputLine;
        public void load() throws Exception
          try
            URL mysite = new URL("http://www.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.html");
           URLConnection ms = mysite.openConnection();
           BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(
           new InputStreamReader(
           ms.getInputStream()));
             while ((inputLine = in.readLine()) != null)
               arr[m] = inputLine;
               m++;
           in.close();
          catch (MalformedURLException e)
            k++;
        public void display(Graphics screen)
          screen.drawString("THE FOLLOWING HAVE ADDED THEIR BIOS:",5 ,5);
          for (int i = 0; i < 20; i++);
            j = j + 20;
            screen.drawString("output - "
            + arr, 5, j);
            repaint() ;
    }

    String arr[] = new String[1000];is this typing mistake????? because if u did it in
    program as well i don think it will work.. the tag is
    innnside array lenght... hope iam saying this right!!no, he had the bold form tags (b and /b inside square brackets) in his previous non-code tagged post. He carried it over to this post and they caused an error. I highly doubt that they were in his actual program. Just delete them.

  • Why we are making a variable as final in method inner class ?

    Why we are making the variable as final (method inner class) while we are accessing the method variable in inner class ?
    regards,
    namanc

    As far as I can tell, the only reason is to protect the programmer: when the inner class instance is constructed, it is given the then-current value of the variable. If the variable (or method parameter) later changes, the value held by the inner class would not. By making the variable final, the programmer doesn't have to worry about them staying in sync.
    Here's some code to ponder:
    public class InnerExample
        void printMe( final int x )
            Runnable runMe = new Runnable()
                public void run()
                    System.out.println(x);
            (new Thread(runMe)).start();
    }When compiled with the Sun JDK 1.4.2, you get this bytecode:
    void printMe(int);
      Code:
       0:   new     #2; //class InnerExample$1
       3:   dup
       4:   aload_0
       5:   iload_1
       6:   invokespecial   #3; //Method InnerExample$1."<init>":(LInnerExample;I)V
       9:   astore_2
       10:  new     #4; //class Thread
       13:  dup
       14:  aload_2
       15:  invokespecial   #5; //Method java/lang/Thread."<init>":(Ljava/lang/Runnable;)V
       18:  invokevirtual   #6; //Method java/lang/Thread.start:()V
       21:  returnAt line (byte) 5, it loads the passed value onto the stack; at line 6, it invokes the inner class constructor (which is created by the compiler). Nothing in this sequence of code would prevent use of a non-final variable.

  • Big O complexity of nextInt method in class Random

    Does anyone know what the big O running complexity of the Java
    implementation of nextInt(int) method in class Random?
    for instance if I have the following code :

    Random rand = new Random();
    for (int i = 0 ; i < n ; i++) {
    rand.nextInt(n);
    n--;
    can the calculation of the random number be refered to as a constant,
    so the complexity of the code segment is O(n) ?

  • In BADi , How to pass the values between two Method

    Hi Experts,
    We have two methods in BADis. How to pass the value  between two Methods. Can you guys explain me out with one example...
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sivakumar S

    Hi Sivakumar!
    Create a function group.
    Define global data (there is a similiar menu point to jump to the top include).
    Create one or two function modules, with which you can read and write the global data.
    In your BADI methods you can access the global data with help of your function modules. It will stay in memory through the whole transaction.
    Regards,
    Christian

  • JVM crash when adding method to class

    Hello,
    I am getting some kind of problem with the virtual machine. The JVM crashes when making a class (with new). It happened when I was adding some functionality to the class, I worked my way backwards and discovered it crashes when I add any new methods, if I comment them out again everything works, adding a method by any name causes to crash.
    I went in debug to find out where it was happening, and it happens on this line:
    public PerspectiveActionToolBarHeader createPerspectiveActionToolBarHeader() {
         PerspectiveActionToolBarHeader ret = null;
         ret = new PerspectiveActionToolBarHeader(this); // << here
         return ret;
    }The PerspectiveActionToolBarHeader is the class where adding methods causes it to fail. For example, it has the method
    public Container getContainer() {
         return this;
    }and works, but if I add:
    public void anything(){} it causes a crash on the new PerspectiveActionToolBarHeader(this);
    When stepped into with the debugger it goes to the (source not found) ClassNotFoundException and eventually before the crash the (stack?) looks like this:
    Launcher$AppClassLoader(ClassLoader).loadClass(String) line: not available
    MaldiSoftwareOptionsUIEnsemble(PerspectiveUIEnsemble).createPerspectiveActionToolBarHeader() line: 72
    and the debugger describes the class just before the crash:
    Launcher$AppClassLoader (id=44)
    arg0     "saiman.uiobjnew.PerspectiveToolBarButton" (id=51) << has just changed
    and the log file (not sure how much to copy here!):

    I think I may have stumbled across the answer, It seems that the abstract class PerspectiveToolBar implements
    the interface with the method public Container getContainer() but does not declare it, this should be fine because the method is abstract but it crashes. When I add the method public abstract Container getContainer(); to the abstract sub-class there is no error. I'm going to try make a small compilable example to see if I can reproduce it.
    edit its actually only one of the two interface methods, and not getContainer(), but another one. If anyone is interested here is the interface:
    public interface IMassSpectrometerPassableControlContainer
         Container getContainer();
         void reloadWidgetsOnVisible(boolean visible);
    }and it works only if there is "public abstract void reloadWidgetsOnVisible(boolean visible);" in the abstract class PerspectiveToolBar implementing IMassSpectrometerPassableControlContainer.
    I tried to reproduce it, but I can't get another class to repeat the behaviour, so I don't think I can post a bug report on it. Here is my attempt anyway:
    import javax.swing.JToolBar;
    * Class     Test.java
    * Date:     7 Jun 2011
    * @author     tofuser
    public class Test extends Subclass
         public static void main(String args[])
              System.out.println("in main method");
              Test t = new Test();
              t.interfaceMethod();
         @Override
         public void interfaceMethod()
              System.out.println("interface method");
    abstract class Subclass extends JToolBar implements Interface
         private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
         //this line is where it breaks in my code, including it works
         //public abstract void interfaceMethod();
    interface Interface
         public abstract void interfaceMethod();
    }Edited by: hanvyj on 07-Jun-2011 03:56
