Passing a Flex object to CFC

I have no problem passing a query object to my Flex app and
use it to populate a datagrid (arraycollection).... however, I want
to use this same data to update the database when the user clicks
on save, and instead of looping through each row (calling my
remoteobject each time) is there a way I can format this
information into an array, array collection or some other form of
flex object and pass ti back to another cfc function to do the
update?????
I've read elsewhere that its possible to do with a
remoteobject, however, my attempts were futile and I cannot find an
example anywhere.
I cant find a solution anywhere so and help would be
appreciated.

Here is a simple example I just wrote real quick. This is how
I normally go about passing something an array of items to
Coldfusion. Hope this helps.

<mx:Application xmlns:mx="
http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
layout="absolute">
<mx:Script>

import mx.controls.Alert;
import mx.managers.CursorManager;
import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent;
import mx.rpc.events.FaultEvent;
[Bindable] private var apples:Array = new Array(
{name:"Normal Apple", color:"Red"},
{name:"Sweet Apple", color:"Ged"},
{name:"Rotten Apple", color:"Brown"});
private function createApples():void {
AppleManager.Create_Apples(apples);
private function createApplesResult(event:ResultEvent):void
Alert.show("You have successfully added some apples into our
system.", "System Notice");

</mx:Script>
<mx:RemoteObject
id="AppleManager"
destination="ColdFusion"
source="cfc.AppleManager"
endpoint="Your endpoint here"
showBusyCursor="true"
fault="CursorManager.removeBusyCursor();Alert.show(event.fault.message,
'System Notice')">
<mx:method name="Create_Apples"
result="createApplesResult(event)"/>
</mx:RemoteObject>
<mx:Button x="10" y="10" label="Create Apples"
click="createApples()"/>
<mx:DataGrid left="10" right="10" top="40" bottom="10"
dataProvider="{apples}">
<mx:columns>
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Apple Name"
dataField="name"/>
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Apple Color"
dataField="color"/>
</mx:columns>
</mx:DataGrid>
</mx:Application>

• Pass flex val into cfc

Hi,
I need example of code I can pass flex var into cfc.
I mean I created form in coldfusion. I have my cfc.
I would like to pass form value into cfc using flex. How can
I do that.
Thanks

You can define method inside your cfc components which accept
parameter.
<mx:RemoteObject id="remoteService"
destination="ColdFusion"
showBusyCursor="true" source="components.simple">
<mx:method name="getSimpleData" result="onResult(event)"
fault="onFault(event)" />
</mx:RemoteObject>
and call those methods with the arguments.
public function initApp():void {
remoteService.getSimpleData(name);
}

• Passing Form Vars to a CFC

I am trying to pass Form variables to a CFC. Yes, the CFC
works being called from Flex, with no arguments, but being new to
Flex I am not sure how to post the values in the form fields back
to the CFC. So my questions are:
1) how do you reference form variables. They are all enclosed
in a form tag, and then by form item tags, I have a variety of
types of inputs
2) How do you pass that information to the cfc? Currently I
am using this code: getSearch.getSearch.send({values:vals});
In an attempt to pass an array full of values to the CFC.
Any help would be great!
Thanks,
Rob

I know exactly where you are coming from...LOL..
I was there too. Here is what you can do to make it easy on
you.
You wrap them in an object.... It is as simple as that.
say that you have multiple form items.
if you are using a data typed object ( I recommend it) you
would do something like this to pass form data to a cfc
// This creates a data typed object called object.
var obj:AS01Phone = new AS01Phone;
//Populate the data typed object with your form data
obj.UserID = Number(userid);
obj.PhoneType = String(_phoneType.selectedItem.KeyValue);
obj.DialCode = Number(_dialCode.selectedItem.DialCode);
// Now send it to the cfc for processing
// [RemoteObject.method(object);]
roPhone.save(obj);

• How does one upload a file from flex to a cfc

How does one upload a file from flex to a cfc? Can you do the file upload via remote object? I usually do uploads cia cfm but prefer the asnc capabilities of remote object calls.

Hi,
The issue here is myFile. For flex we need to pass this name as paramenter becuase it's not html form item like:
<cfcomponent>
<cffunction name="uploadFile" access="remote" output="false" returntype="void">
<cfargument name="file" required="Yes" type="any">
<cffile action="upload" filefield="#arguments.file#" destination="C:\temp\" nameconflict="makeunique">
</cffunction>
</cfcomponent>
From flex I'm getting the file using fileReference like:
private function browseAndUpload():void
fileReference = new FileReference();
fileReference.addEventListener(Event.SELECT,fileReference_Select);
fileReference.addEventListener(Event.CANCEL,fileReference_Cancel);
fileReference.browse();
private function fileReference_Select(event:Event):void
fileReference.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS,fileReference_Progress);
fileReference.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,fileReference_Complete);
fileReference.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR,onLoadError);
//fileReference.upload(request);
fileName = fileReference.name;
myFile.htmlText = fileReference.name;
SM_RO.importNSA();
filerReference have an upload method to upload the file but I can't use that becuase I need to process my upload with my cfc.
I'm getting an error:
Failed to import the file. The cffile action="upload" requires forms to use enctype="multipart/form-data". Please also make sure the file is not open.
I can't find the way to setup the enctype becuase again i can have html form items in flex, or I can?
Thanks

• How to pass a variable into a cfc?

prior to calling the cfinvoke, I have coding that determins a
variable "X"
I need to pass X into a cfc so it can complete the query held
there.
So I tried
<cfinvoke component="A"
method="AList"
returnvariable="AResults">
<cfinvokeargument name="x" value="#X#"
/></cfinvoke>
correct so far?
Now over on the cfc page is where I'm getting stuck
Inside my cffunction I'm adding <cfargument name="X" />
But how do I get the value in?

I don't quite understand your question. Can you rephrase?
But before all that, bear in mind that one doesn't pass a
variables into a
*CFC*, one passes it into a function within the CFC. And as
with all
functions, one passes values into the function by passing it
as an
argument. But - of course - the function has to be coded to
expect the
argument.
Your own sample code demonstrates this in action:
<cfinvokeargument name="abbrCode"
value="#companyAbbrCode#" />
(NB: lose the trailing slash: this is CFML, not XML).
So you know how to do that.
Hence me not quite understanding what you're actually asking.

• How to pass the java object into the spring controller

Hi Friends
When I hit the url at the first time my call goes to the spring controller and sets the userDetails objects in the modelAndView.addObject("userDetails", userDetails.getUserDetails()) and returns the userDetails.html page. if I click any link in the same page i want to pass same (userDetails) object thru javascript or jquery and calls the another(controller) method and returns the same (userDetails.html) page.
It means how can i pass the java object thru javascript or jquery and calls the controller. if i get the same object in my controller i can avoid calling the db again. please help me out to resolve this issue. i am tired of fixing this issue.
Regards
Sherin Pooja

If you want to avoid calling the database again then cache the data.
However before you do that make sure that calling the database, in the context of YOUR system, is going to be an actual problem.
For example there is absolutely no point in caching a User object when only one user an hour is actually using the system.

• Data from SOAP response not getting into Flex object

I'm trying to get data from an ALM application we use(Collabnet TeamForge) using a SOAP webservice, and am running into a problem. I should mention that I am new to both Flex, and webservices.
I used the "Import Web Services" option in Flex Builder 3, and had it generate code for all operations in the WSDL. Some of them work just fine. However, there are several where the data from the SOAP response does not get into the Flex object. The senario that doesn't work is when the response contains a data type that extends another datatype. In TeamForge, they have a type called TrackerSoapRow. It extends FolderSoapRow, adding 3 fields. The problem seems to be that in the response from TeamForge, the 3 fields defined in TrackerSoapRow are in the middle of the fields defined in FolderSoapRow. I've debugged into it, and the problem occures in mx.rpc.xml.XMLDecoder.getApplicableValues( starting at line 2204 of XMLDecoded.as). As I read the code, the only way a match can be found is if the fields in the response are in the exact same order as in the definintion. When its processing the extended data type( by a call to XMLDecoder.decodeComplexExtension ) at some point, one of the derived type's fields is encountered, and the process stops.
I have called the service using soapui and verified that all the data I expect is in the response.
As I mentioned, I'm new to web services. So, I suppose its possible that the format of the data being returned from TeamForge is incorrect. That they are not supposed to intermingle base and derived fields. If thats the case, then I need to report this as a bug to Collabnet.
All help is appreciated.

• Passing a Vector object as a parameter to a method

Hi,
How can I pass a Vector object as a parameter to a method?
void buttonAdd_actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
Vector studentHobbies = new Vector();
String[] items = listHobbies.getSelectedItems();
for (int i=0; i<items.length; i++) {
studentHobbies.addElement(items);
newStudent = new Student(Name,StudentNumber,studentHobbies);
studentenlist.addTo(newStudent);
So I want to pass the Vector object 'studentHobbies' to a method.
Would I do something like this :import java.util.Vector;
public Student(String Name, int StudentenNumber, Vector studentHobbies){
this.Name = Name;
this.StudentNumber = StudentNumber;
this.studentHobbies = StudentenHobbies;

yes, thats how you do it.
maybe you should first try your idea and then ask people questions?
also, use ArrayList instead of Vector, its better - google as to why if you care.

• How to pass arraylist of object from action class to jsp and display in jsp

I need to do the following using struts
I have input jsp, action class and action form associated to that. In the action class I will generate the sql based on the input from jsp page/action form, create a result set. The result set is stored as java objects in a ArrayList object.
Now I need to pass the arraylist object to another jsp to display. Can I put the ArrayList object in the request object and pass to the success page defined for the action? If this approach is not apprpriate, please let me know correct approach.
if this method is okay, how can I access the objects from arraylist in jsp and display their property in jsp. This java object is a java bean ( getter and setter methods on it).
( need jsp code)
Can I do like this:
<% ArrayList objList = (ArrayList)request.getattribute("lookupdata"): %> in jsp
(***I have done request.setattribute("lookupdata", arraylistobj); in action class. ***)
Assuming the java object has two properties, can I do the following
<% for (iint i=0. i<objList.size;I++){ %>

what should i do here to get the first property of the object

what should i do here to get the first property of the object

<% }
%>
if this approach is not proper, how can I pass the list of objects and parse in jsp?
I am not sure what will be the name of the object. I can find out how many are there but i am not sure I can find out the name

• Passing Values to Object Type Attributes

Hi Experts,
I need to pass values to object type attributes amount,channel and company code from zprogram.
I have got FM 'SWO_INVOKE'.But in this FM how will I pass values to 3 attributes.
I have created object type through SWO1 .Is it necessary to call FM SWO_CREATE before FM 'SWO_INVOKE'.
Please suggest.
Regards,
Kaustubh.

Hi,
I guess you will have to Initialize business object first by using the function module "SWO_CREATE' and then call the other function module to pass the attributes. I am not sure, but please check by passing the attribute name and value to the tables parameter 'CONTAINER'.
CONTAINER-ELEMENT = <Attribute name>.
CONTAINER-VALUE = <value from the Zprogram>.
Hope this will help.
Thanks,

• Is it possible in java to pass reference of object in Java?

Hello,
I'm relativily new to Java but I have "solid" knowledge in C+ and C# .NET+.
Is it possible in java to pass reference of object in Java? I read some articles about weakreferences, softreferences, etc. but it seems that it's not what I'm looking for.
Here is a little piece of code I wrote:
package Software;
import java.util.Random;
* @author Rodrigue
public class RandomText
private Random rand = new Random();
private Thread t;
private String rText = "Rodrigue";
public RandomText()
t = new Thread()
@Override
public void run()
try
while(true)
UpdateText();
sleep(100);
catch(InterruptedException ex)
t.start();
private void UpdateText()
int i = rand.nextInt();
synchronized (rText)
rText = String.valueOf(i);
public String GetText()
return rText;
}It's just a class which start a thread. This class updates a text with a random integer 10 times per second.
I would like to get a reference on the String rText (like in C++ ;) yes I know, I must think in Java :D). So, like that, I could get one time the reference, thanks to the GetText function, and update the text when my application will repaint. Otherwise, I always have to call the GetText method ... which is slow, no?
Are objects passed by reference in java? Or, my string is duplicated each time?
Thank you very much in advance!
Rodrigue

disturbedRod wrote:
Ok, "Everything in Java is passed by value. Objects, however, are never passed at all.". Reference of object is passed by value too.
But, how to solve my problem in Java_? I have an object which is continually modified in a thread. From an another side, this object is continually repainted in a form.I'm not sure I totally understand your problem. If you pass a reference to an object, then both the caller and the method point to the same object. Changing the internal state of the object (e.g. by calling a setter method) through one reference will be observed through both references, since they both point to the same object.
No, calling a method is not particularly slow. Especially if it's just a simple getter method that returns the value of a member variable.
If this is happening in a multithreaded context, you'll have to use proper synchronization to ensure that each thread sees the others' changes.

• Error passing a remote object in a rmi function call

Hi,
I've a problem passing an UnicastRemoteObject extended object in a rmi function call. I get the following error
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: argument type mismatch
I've 2 Remote Objects: GalaxyRegistration and Station. I want to pass a Station Object as argument in a function from GalaxyRegistration. Does anyone know what the problem is?
Here is the code:
public class GalaxyRegistration
extends UnicastRemoteObject
implements GalaxyRegistrationInterface, Galaxy {
public GalaxyRegistration() throws RemoteException {
public void add(Station station) throws RemoteException {
stations.addElement(station);
System.out.println("Add Station " + station.getName());
public class Station
extends UnicastRemoteObject
implements StationInterface {
SystemInfo system;
public Station(String name, String description, Coordinate position, Profile profile)
throws RemoteException {
system = new SystemInfo(name, description, position, profile);
public class StationServer {
Station station;
public void run() {
// create new Station
System.out.println("Create new Station:");
// register and bind new station
try     {
station = new Station(name, descr, location, profile);
System.out.println("Station created ...");
GalaxyRegistrationInterface registry =
(GalaxyRegistrationInterface)
Naming.lookup
("//localhost/GalaxyRegistration");
System.out.println("Registry looked up ...");
// >>>>>>>> NEXT LINE IS THE ERROR LINE <<<<<<<<<<<<<<
registry.add(station);
} catch(Exception e) {
System.out.println(e);
}

regardless of any other problems in your code, neither of the objects which you are subclassing from UnicastRemoteObject call the superclass constructor, which is a pretty basic flaw - in this case, it will lead to neither of these objects being exported properly.
