Passing a pl/sql "array" to JDBC

I have a PL/SQL table (index by binary_integer) and I want to pass the values through an OUT parameter to a external java application. But while we have tried declaring my table as a index by table, as a nested table and a varray, the Java gets the error of "wrong number or type of parameters passed to procedure"
Can someone help me out with an example of how to get "array" like data from PL/SQL to java?

Hi David
As of now, PL/SQL tables are not supported by the jdbc drivers(both thin and OCI). Oracle plans to support them in their next release.
I would be interested in knowing how you succeeded in handling this as we faced similar problems.

    The issue is resolved by change classes12dms.jar for OC4J. The jdbc driver was changed from version (read from manifest):

    Try this if you are at weblogic 8.1:
    Connection con = getConnectionFromDataSource();
    Connection vendorConnection = ((WLConnection)con).getVendorConnection();
    // use direct oracle connection.
    ArrayDescriptor descriptor = ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor( "TEST_PAC_1.TEST_COLL_2", dbConnection );
    vendorConnection.close();
    Beware that you should be very careful as you are going to use a direct vendor
    connection.
    The better aproach is to pass the string array as a delimited string to your storad
    procedure and parse it in the SP - then you don't have to mess up with vendor-specific
    handling.

    Creating my Oracle connection works fine ... code as follows:

    I also have reviewed documentation:
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs81/jdbc/thirdparty.html. In section 'Using OracleStruct Extension Methods' it highlights that
    <i>java.sql.Struct struct =(weblogic.jdbc.vendor.oracle.OracleStruct)(rs.getObject(2));</i>
    None of the documentation actually mentions <b>oracle.sql.STRUCT</b>. For Weblogic to truely provide support for Oracle it needs an easy way of converting to this data type. At present I cannot interact with Oracle APIs until I can create an oracle.sql.STRUCT.

  • PL/SQL array passed to SQL IN

    Hi,
    I have a PL/SQL array which type is defined like this:
    create or replace type type_id_array as table of number(6, 3);
    then i create a variable and initilaize:
    var_1 type_id_array;
    var_1 := .....
    then i have a select statement.
    select * from table t where t.id in(var_1)
    That's it, i want to use the array in an SQL in. This seems not possible.
    Can you explain why? Any alternate solutions?

  • Oracle.sql.* with JDBC drivers 8.0.5

    the oracle.sql package is not included in my JDBC driver file classes111.zip given for oracle data server version 8.0.5.
    I would like to use the oracle STRUCT and ARRAY type for calling PL/SQL stored procedures taking STRUCT objects in arguments.
    Are the JDBC drivers 8.1.* compatible with the oracle data server 8.0.5 (if I only use the STRUCT or ARRAY types)? Is it a way for passing ARRAY of VARCHAR2 values to PL/SQL stored procedure with the oracle 8.0.5 JDBC driver?

    Unfortunately, these classes (oracle.sql.STRUCT and oracle.sql.ARRAY) are not compatible to 8.0 database. There is server format changes between 8.1 and 8.0, and JDBC driver only supports the 8.1 format.
    Please upgrade your database to 8i.

    - its Weblogic, so if you would ask a non-programming related question anywhere it would be in the Weblogic forum
    - HOWEVER, if you check the top of the stacktrace, you'll see that the problem stems from the JDBC driver, so a JDBC related forum would be a closer match

  • How to create oracle.sql.array

    I need to create an oracle.sql.array to pass in my custom objects array to the database. I know you can create it using the ArrayDescriptor class but the problem with that is the connection object is need.
    I am using the writeSql() method of the SQLData interface. I therefore dont have the connection object. Any ideas?

    This writes the object organisation to the database. Now in the class organisation i have the following method which is called automatically when writing the organisation object to the database:

    The problem is the last bit. To put the finIndexArr into an array i need the connection object. So i have to pass into the organisation object the connection object which seems unneccessary and pointless to me. I was just looking at an alternative way of creating the array without the need of the connection object. Since the setOrganisation() above has the connection to the database i dont see why i need to specify it in the array as well

    I am able to return a varray from an PL/SQL stored procedure to a Java program using the Oracle JDBC 8.1.6 driver classes (oracle.jdbc.driver.* and oracle.sql.ARRAY). I want to avoid using the Oracle specific classes to do this and instead just use the standard JDBC 2.0 classes and JDK 1.2.2. Will I still be able to access the varray returned by the PL/SQL SP or am I forced to use the Oracle classes?
    Why I ask this is because the Java code needs to be usable from a Netscape Application Server 4.0/iPlanet Application Server 6.0 servlet or java class. NAS 4.0 uses the JDBC 2.0 classes but I cannot use the Oracle JDBC 8.1.6 classes since NAS 4.0 requires the Oracle 8.0.5 client. iAS 6.0 provides a JDBC 2.0 type 2 driver and uses the Oracle 8.1.5 client but does not support arrays, i.e. CallableStatement.getArray(), ResultSet.getArray(), etc. are not supported.

  • Java.sql.SQLException: Internal Error while using oracle.sql.ARRAY.getArray

    Hello All,
    Here is the issue description. Our application uses Oracle Object Types and LIST. We deployed our application on QA environment which has Oracle 10g. Application runs fine...no issues. Now we moved to UAT. UAT environment is same as QA environment and DBA have created replica of QA database.
    Now WAR file which works fine with QA database , somehow doesnt work with UAT database. Application throws following exception when code tries to call getArray() on java.sql.Array.
    We tried to point UAT weblogic to QA database and it worked fine.....but when we point UAT weblogic to UAT database , we get following exception. So we know that this is a database issue.
    DBA claims that QA env database and UAT env database are same.
    Can anybody please tell me what wrong here? What setting is not done on UAT database which is done on QA?

    If i use cs.registerOutParameter(4, Types.ARRAY, "SCHEMA_OWNER_NAME.ISSUESECTION_LIST"); Then i wont be getting the error.
    COULD ANYONE LET ME KNOW THE WORK AROUND OTHER THAN THE ABOVE SOLUTION LIKE ADDING THE OWNER SCHEMA NAME WITH THE USER DEFINED COLLECTION TYPE.

    There couold be two reasons:
    1) it depends how u have defined type. if ISSUESECTION_LIST is defined in type SCHEMA_OWNER, then you have to call this ways only 'SCHEMA_OWNER_NAME.ISSUESECTION_LIST'
    2) You might have defined using schema_owner_name like scott.<TYPE_NAME>. if its so, then drop it and again define type without using schema owner.
    For detail help post your type declaration.

    Oracle Database - 9.2.0.6. The JDBC driver used -10.2.0.1 jar.(the latest available).
    I am calling a stored procedure from java, that has out param as a collection (VARRAY) of a user defined type.
    The stored procedure works fine, if the user/schema used to connect,contains actual type, and i am able to extract the user defined object from the oracle.sql.ARRAY, via getArray().
    But if i use a different user to connect which has public synonyms and execute rights to the actual type, i get the following error:

    The problem is happening because we have 2 different users to connect to the database. one is the dba user, which contains all the types, packages and other one the application user, which we are supposed to use, to connect via java. This application user does have access to types via public synonym, but it gives the above mentioned error.

    Even I am getting the same error inspite of preceding the type name with the same user who has created the type.
    It has displayed the array length.When I am trying to fetch each array, I am getting the error.

  • NullPointer from constructor of oracle.sql.ARRAY

    This is a strange one, I'm hoping someone has seen this before.
    I'm seeing a nullpointer exception from the contructor of ARRAY(ArrayDescriptor, Connection, Object)
    This occurs when I'm trying to make a call from an application module to a stored procedure with custom database types.
    This seems to work fine in the embedded OC4J instance but fails when deployed to an application server on linux. The version is 10.1.2.

    Avi, thanks for your response. The connection is obtained from a BC4J appmod, which ultimately comes from a pooled datasource.
    When I look at the implementation class in the embeded OC4J environment it is com.evermind.sql.OracleConnectionBCELProxy__com_evermind_sql_OrionCMTConnection__SQLBCELProxy. The call to ARRAY works in this environment.
    On the application server the runtime implementation of the connection is com.evermind.sql.ConnectionBCELProxy__com_evermind_sql_OrionCMTConnectionFinalize__SQLBCELProxy. This fails with the exception in the original post.
    In both environments I can successfuly cast to an OracleConnection so I'm pretty sure both implementaion classes are subclasses of OracleConnection.
    Both environments are 10.1.2.

  • Errors using weblogic sql driver: "No JDBC connection can be made because the transaction state is marked rollback"

    One of our customers starts to encounter this error message recently.
    We checked our log files. It seems that the error happens when
    to obtain a jdbc connection. Have anyone seen similar problems
    and knows how to fix it? thanks in advance.
    We are using weblogic server 6.1sp2, and weblogic sql type 4 driver.
    The functions that invoke the jdbc calls are stateless session bean
    methods with their transaction attributes marked as Required.
    There is no nested calls of these methods.
    A partial stack trace we obtained is as following:
    java.sql.SQLException: No JDBC connection can be made
    because the transaction state is
    Marked Rollback
         at weblogic.jdbc.jts.Connection.getOrCreateConnection(Connection.java:586)
         at weblogic.jdbc.jts.Connection.prepareStatement(Connection.java:115)

    it's when the server is
    gettng the pool connection. For performance/synchronization reasons we
    do a clever
    delay: When your code asks for a pool connection we quickly give you
    the pool wrapper,
    but we delay actually reserving the real underlying DBMS connection until
    your first
    real need for a connection, at your first JDBC call, such as createStatement()
    etc.
    It is while waiting for a pool connection long enough for the transaction
    coordinator
    to have timed you out before you ever get a chance. It's nothing to do
    with the
    DBMS or even JDBC, I believe. I think the weblogic server either has
    too few execute-threads
    and/or too few CPU cycles to do the work load.
    Okay, so there's a lazy initialization of the connection.
    From reading our log I believe our failur is immediate rather
    than waiting for 30+ seconds(the default setting) from the DB,
    the timeout occurred later as a result. At the time either because the DB Server
    is very busy.
    Since we are running WLS6.0 we have only one connection pool,
    we have defined a max of 150 threads in the pool. While this
    is happening the DB Server is being pinned by an overnight job,
    but the WLS Server is not busy at all. The DB and WLS resides
    on different physical boxes.
    We also have a thread dump from the WLS console when we rebooted the server, it
    showed that we are hanging on to the thread & jdbc
    connections after these exceptions has occurred instead of releasing them, note
    "16083"(~4.5 hours) seconds has passed:

    load
    issue. What is
    happening is that the transaction is started, and times out beforethe
    SSB even gets to
    the first JDBC work. I would first verify that the customer is using
    the very latest JVM
    available for the machine.

  • ABAP/4 Open SQL array insert results in duplicate database records in SM58

    Hi Everyone,
    I am testing a file to idoc scenario in my Quality system. When I passed the input file, the mapping executed successfully and there are no entries in SMQ2 but still the idoc wasn't created in the ECC system. When I have checked in TRFC, I am getting the error  ABAP/4 Open SQL array insert results in duplicate database records for IDOC_INBOUND_AYNCHRONOUS function module. I thought this is a data issue and I have tested with a fresh data which was never used for testing in Quality but even then I am getting the same error.Kindly advise.

    use FM idoc_status_write_to_database to change the IDoc status from 03 to 30 and then  run WE14 or  RSEOUT00 to change the status back to 03
    resending idoc from status 03 ...is a data duplicatino issue on receiving side...why do u need to do that ?
    Use WE19 tcode to debug
    In we19
    1)U can choose your Idoc number in existing Idoc textbox
    2)Press execute
    3)u will display ur Idoc struct
    4)Dbl click on any field then u can modify its content
    5)PressStd Outbound Processing Btn to process modified Idoc
    Thats it
