Passing Array from Class to JSP

Hoi all,
I am using MyEclipse Tomcat 4.1 and MySql
I am trying to pass a 2D array from my struts framework action class to the forwarding action JSP.
the Array is filled correctly, I check that by printing the values of the array as they are filled by my ResultSet into my console.
but when I pass the Array to my JSP the value is null.
I did the following in the class:
request.setAttribute("Aray",aray);     and in the JSP i request the Attrebute as follows:
String[][] ary =  request.getParameter("Aray"); Any help will be appreciated thx .

request.setAttribute("Aray",aray);
String[][] ary = request.getParameter("Aray");
See the difference?

  • URGENT: Passing Array from JSP to a Stored Procedure

    Hi,
    Can some one please help me understanding how can I pass array from JSP page to a stored procedure in database.
    Thanks in advance.
    Jatinder

    Thanks.
    I tried ArrayExampla.java and was successful in passing array values to the stored database procedure.
    How can I use this class in JSP? Like I have first JSP where in I will collect input from the user and then submit it to the second JSP - that needs to call the ArrayExample.java to pass the values as array to the database.
    How should I call this java code in my second JSP?
    Thanks in advance.

  • How to Pass values from XML to JSP??? Urgent Please Help me

    Hi guys,
    I am new to XML, I want to pass values from XML to JSP. I have a xml file with attributes, I should send this values to a JSP file. How is it??? Please Help guys.... its very urgent. Please send me how to do it with an example or atleast any urls related that....
    Looking for ur favourable reply.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sridhar

    in a servlet :
    parse your xml file (see how at the end of the post) and
    put the values you want in the request attributes
    request.setAttribute("value1", value1);
    ...redirect to the jsp
    in the JSP:
    get the wanted attributes:
    String value1=(String)request.getAttribute("value1");To learn how to parse a xml file, pay a look at this page, it explains how to read the XML document to build an object representation, and then how to navigate through this object to get the data

  • Pass data from servlet to jsp using sendRedirect

    Hi,
    I am passing data from servlet to jsp using forward method of request dispatcher but as it doesn't change the url it is creating problems. When ever user refreshes the screen(browser refresh) it's re-loading both servlet and jsp, which i don't want to happen. I want only the jsp to be reloaded.
    Can I pass data from servlet to jsp using sendRedirect in this case. I also want to pass some values from servlet to jsp but without using query string. I want to set some attributes and send to jsp just like we do for forward method of request dispatcher.
    Is there any way i can send data using attributes(without using query string) using sendRedirect? Please let me know

    sendRedirect is meant as a true redirect. meaning
    you can use it to redirect to urls not in your
    context....with forward you couldn't pass information
    to jsps/servlets outside your own context.Actually, you can:
    getServletContext().getContext("/other").getRequestDispatcher("/path/to/servlet").forward(request, response)I think the issue here is that the OP would like to have RequestDispatcher.forward() also update the address in the client's browser. That's not possible, AFAIK. By the time the request is forwarded, the browser has already determined the URL of the servlet, and the only I know of way to have the browser change the URL to the forwarded Servlet/JSP is to send a Location: header (i.e. sendRedirect()). Remember that server-side dispatching is transparent to the client. Maybe there's some tricky stuff you can do with JavaScript to change the address in the address bar without reloading the page?

  • ORA-00932 when trying to pass ARRAY from Java SP to PL/SQL

    Hi all
    I am trying to pass ARRAYs back and forth between PL/SQL and Java stored procedures. But I keep getting:
    ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected a return value that is an instance of a user defined Java class convertible to an Oracle type got an object that could not be converted
    Here's my PL/SQL:
    create or replace type CONTENTP.sentences_array as VARRAY(1000) of CLOB
    -- I've also tried .. as TABLE of CLOB and varray/table of VARCHAR2
    declare
    proc_clob CLOB;
    arr SENTENCES_ARRAY;
    begin
    SELECT document_body
    into proc_clob
    from documents
    where document_id = 618784;
    arr := processdocument.sentencesplit (proc_clob);
    end;
    PROCESSDOCUMENT package definition:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE CONTENTP.PROCESSDOCUMENT AS
    FUNCTION sentenceSplit(Param1 CLOB)
    return SENTENCES_ARRAY
    AS
    LANGUAGE java

    return CLOB

    Connection conn = new OracleDriver().defaultConnection();
    String[] arrSentences = sent.getsentences ( CLOBtoString (text) );
    ArrayDescriptor arrayDesc =
    ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor ("SENTENCES_ARRAY", conn);
    ARRAY ARRSentences = new ARRAY (arrayDesc, conn, arrSentences);
    return ARRSentences;
    I have confirmed that the String[] arrSentences contains a valid string array. So the problem seems to be the creation and passing of ARRSentences.
    I have looked at pages and pages of documents and example code, and can't see anything wrong with my declaration of ARRSentences. I'm at a loss to explain what's wrong.
    Thanks in advance - any help is much appreciated!

  • Passing Array From Subreport to Main Report then Summing

    Hi,
    I am having troble passing an array from a sub report to the main repport.  I have managed to create the array, pass it and display it in the main report, however the first value of the array is displayed twice.  Here is the  formulae I have used:
    In the sub report:
    whileprintingrecords;
    shared stringvar str;
    str:=str{@value}","
    In the main report:
    whileprintingrecords;
    shared stringvar str;
    stringvar array arr;
    arr:=split(str,",");
    join(arr,",")
    Also, when I have managed to resolve the problem of the first value printing twice, I hope to change the array back to a number array and sum all of the values together.  I'm not too sure how to do this either.
    I hope you can help.
    Julie

    Ummm... Isn't Join(Split(str,","), ",") = str?  Why bother with the two extra lines of code?  Also, are you sure the subreport isn't creating the "duplicate first value"?  (I.e.  The data has the same value on two records, so it's being added twice?)
    Also if you're looking for the sum, why not create another shared variable and sum the value in the subreport as you're building the array (assuming you need the array for other purposes)?

    I would want to use Oracle provided (Oracle Extensions) API to pass arrays to PL/SQL

    method donot allow Pooled connection. So I have taken Physical Connection by casting
    to 'WLConnection'. Now, weblogic strongly suggest NOT to use this,as pooling capabilities
    will be disabled.
    But by setting RemoveInfectedConnectionsEnabled to false, we can ask weblogic
    to return the Physical Connection to Pool. I have tested this with the attached
    code. I DON'T find any issue.Good. The only real risk to obtaining the physical connection is retaining and
    using it beyond the current thread execution. Your code looks OK. The only thing
    I'd suggest is to add to the finally block. I would put a separate try-catch-ignore
    block around every action in the finally, so if one fails, the others are still
    done.
    As long as you're writing good JDBC like that, there is no risk to telling the
    pool to trust the code, by setting RemoveInfectedConnectionsEnabled to false.
    That way you'll retain all the performance of the pools.

    Note : Please look at the sample code that I am using. I AM NOT GOING TO USE PHYSICAL

    want to pass Arrays to Oracle.

  • Oracle BPM 10.3: Pass Object from Presentation to JSP

    Hi,
    I am using Oracle BPM 10.3 . Can anybody tell me that in the presentation when a user clicks a button
    then i call a method. This method have an object. How i can pass this object to a JSP Page so that
    jsp can access this object.
    Thanks
    Edited by: user9293762 on Sep 3, 2010 2:33 AM

    Hi user9293762,
    To pass the BPM object to the JSP page, please follow the below steps:
    1) Place an interactive activity after the method execution.
    2) Right click on the Interactive activity and select Main Task
    3) In the Main Task wizard select Implementation Type as BPM Object Interactive Call
    4) Select the BPM Object Variable, here you can pass your BPM object to the jsp page but make sure that the object you want to pass is an instance variable of type your BPM object
    5) Click on the Use JSP Presentation and choose for your jsp page you want to attach with the interactive activity.
    6) Finally click on OK
    Now you can access the BPM object in your jsp page.

  • Passing array from one servlet to other

    I got values from jsp to servlet and i am storing them to
    String[] test = req.getParameterValues("testOne");
    Now i need to use redirect
    req.sendRedirect("/servlet/myapp?test="+test);
    Not working. Why?

    String[] test = req.getParameterValues("testOne");This code creates a String array with 0 or more entries depending on the number of "testOne=" parameters in the request.
    req.sendRedirect("/servlet/myapp?test="+test);The +test results in test.toString() on an array which will be some sort of class description, not the values in test.
    What are you trying to do here? Do you want the servlet to process the same request, in which case why not use forward instead of reDirect?
    If you must use reDirect and want to pass the test array to the servlet, you could add it as a session attribute. If you really insist on using the param string, try:
    String s = "/servlet/myapp?";
    for (int k = 0; k < test.length; k++) {
        s += "test=" + test[k];
    }This will pass as many "test" parameters as there were "testOne" parameters.

  • Passing values from HTML to JSP method,

    Hello:
    I am starting to wonder if what I am doing will ever work...
    Ok, I am trying to avoid javascript. I have a drop-down list named "year" and I wish to call a JSP method that is defined/declared in the same JSP.
    First, I want to pass the chosen option to the method and then store the name/value in a global variable.
    Second, depending on what the user selects, I will get values from an array defined/initialized on page load AND display those values in another drop-down list.
    As a test, and until now, I have done this. I am not passing anything yet, I just wanted to test this "fuzzy logic" I am having:
    <%!
    String currentYear;
    private void showDaysInDDList()
    currentYear = request.getparameter("year");
    %>
    Then on the HTML part of the page I have a drop-down list:
    <html>
    <head>
    <title></title>
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style.css">
    </head>
    <body bgcolor="ffffcc">
    <form method="POST" name="form1" action="left.jsp">
    <select name="year" onchange="<%=showDaysInDDList()%>">
         <option></option>
         </select>
    I am getting the following errors:
    An error occurred at line: 105 in the jsp file: /p1/left.jsp
    request cannot be resolved
    ....and regarding to the onchange="<%=showDaysInDDList()%>"> part I am getting the following:
    An error occurred at line: 204 in the jsp file: /p1/left.jsp
    The method print(boolean) in the type JspWriter is not applicable for the arguments (void)
    In the action="left.jsp", left.jsp is the same page where the drop-down list and the method is. I am not sure if that is another error.
    I will continue here with my coffee ... any help will be extremely appreciated !!..
    I'll have to shut down my "asp.net mind" for a while..
    I'll reply later,
    MMS

    Ok, this is a bit messy here. I don't know how much you've read up on JSP but you seem confused about some fundamentals to me. However, you mention that you've worked with ASP .net so I'm going to assume you do have some notion of how thing should work in general.
    1. JSP is on the server-side and events like onchange that you've used take place on the client-side after the JSP/ servlet code has run and produced the HTML page. So calling your showDaysInDDList() will not work.
    2. Are you sure you know how the declaration tags ( <%! %> ) work? When you normally write JSP code without these tags, all that code gets compiled into the service method of the corresponding servlet that the JSP gets turned into. But, you can declare your own methods and variables outside the service method by using these tags.
    So what you're effectively doing is declaring
    private String/ void showDaysInDDList()
    }and followed by your usual _jspService()
    public void _jspService(HttpServletRequest request,
       HttpServletResponse  response)
         throws IOException, ServletException
    }Now it may be clear, that the request object is not available in the showDaysInDDList() method by default; you'll either have to declare it ( not sure if it's good programming practice or not ) or pass the required parameters in the call.
    3. Like you seem to have realized, that error about the printing of booleans was related to the return type of your method because <%= %> translates to out.println(); and since the argument was the method call, the return value was to be printed which here was a void ( not sure why it says boolean though :D ).
    Read up on this introduction to JSPs http://java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/JSPIntro/contents.html, seems to be pretty good and covers everything in quick, short chunks.
    Hope this helps.

    now when u establishing connection i.e
    HttpConnection con = (HttpConnection) Connector.open(url,3);
    this will work as an declaration but if u want to send that parameter for that you have to get response from the server and that time only original connection is going to establish i.e
    when u r writting
    int responseCode = con.getResponseCode();
    if(reponseCode == 200)
    then ur parameter were passed to jsp page.
    in jsp page u have to get parameter using request class
    String userName = request.getParameter("userName").toString();
    String password = request.getParameter("password").toString();
    i hope this might solve ur problem.

  • Help needed: clarifying the use of beans to pass data from database to JSP

    Hi everyone,
    I am sure you all get fed up with being asked this question as I can see it is asked a lot when googled, but the answers given have not cleared things up for me.
    Anyway, I have a JSP page that contains a text box, submit button and a select box of size 10. The user enters a search string and the form submits the data and reloads the same page. From the code you can see the Name property of the bean is set.
    <jsp:useBean id="vtm" class="FinalYearProject.Types.VtmType" scope="page" />
    <jsp:setProperty name="vtm" property="NM" value="${param.NM}" />I then need to be able to use that name to query a postgresql database. I have a JDBCConnector class with the method:
        public ResultSet searchTable(String NM ) throws SQLException {
            String[] names = NM.split(" ");
            NM = "";
            for(int i = 0; i < names.length; i++) {
                NM = names[i] + "%";
            return stat.executeQuery("SELECT * FROM vtm WHERE nm ILIKE '" + NM + "';");
        }This method however can be changed.
    My question really is what is the best way for me to take the name, get the resultset and pass back the VtmType objects to the jsp so that I can populate my select box, and where should each part be handled i.e. the JSP page, the VtmType, the JDBCConnector.
    I may be going about it completely the wrong way and using beans incorrectly, but I just cant seem to get my head around the problem.
    Any help would be much appreciated,
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the help, I actually found some literature about the JSP Model 2 and realised that was what I needed to do. I have now re-written everything and it has made my life a lot eaiser, typically this was before I checked back on this post though!
    Anyway, I now have JSP pages requesting Servlets which create beans and call classes that access the database. The servlet then forwards the beans and where necessary a small of html to another JSP. Like you have suggested.
    One problem I have now however, is that the user needs to be logged in to access some of the pages. An error page with the correct message is displayed to the user when it is processed via the servlet.
    //Servlet detects an error
    request.setAttribute("errorMsg", "1");
    gotoPage("/loginError.jsp", request, response);
    //JSP detects which errorMsg to display
    <c:set var="errorMsg" value="${requestScope.errorMsg}" />However, when the user does not sign in and clicks a link which is blocked the JSP forwards directly to the error JSP.
    //Tests to see if user is logged in
    <c:if test="${empty user.username}">
        <jsp:forward page="/loginError.jsp">
            <jsp:param name="errorMsg" value="3" />
        </jsp:forward>
    </c:if>The problem with this is that the only way I can see of checking the errorMsg type is with:
    //JSP checks which errorMsg to display
    <c:set var="errorMsg" value="${param.errorMsg}" />Which is different to how I determine the errorMsg from the Servlet. Is there a way of getting the errorMsg type that is the same for both actions?
    Thanks.
