Passing array to stored proc as parameter

Hi,
I want to pass an array from my .Net application to oracle as a parameter to one of my stored proc. The signature of my SP looks like.
SP_Name(counter int, table_name varchar, log_values logs)
--(where logs is a varray of type varchar(100)
How can i pass an array of logs from .Net to this stored proc using ODP.Net?
Please help.

You should have an example on your hard drive in
%OracleHome%\ODP.NET\samples\AssocArray
Cheers

    VARRAY as Stored Proc output parameter
    I have an Oracle VARRAY data type declared as follows:
    CREATE TYPE NUMBER_ARRAY AS VARRAY(100) OF NUMBER;
    I have a stored procedure which takes a single input and
    returns a NUMBER_ARRAY as output:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE one_in_number_array_out(
    IN_PARAM IN NUMBER,
    OUT_NUMBER_ARRAY OUT NUMBER_ARRAY )
    IS
    BEGIN
    -- OUT_NUMBER_ARRAY getting populated here
    END one_in_number_array_out;
    I want to be able hit this proc using TopLink StoreProcedureCall objects and retrieve through a map.
    I thought I would be able to do something like:
    public void execute() {
         StoredProcedureCall call = new StoredProcedureCall();
              call.setProcedureName( getStoredProcedureName() );
              call.addNamedArgumentValue("IN_NUMBER_PARAM", new Double(324) );
              call.addNamedOutputArgument("OUT_NUMBER_ARRAY", "numberArray"); // use an alias
         ClientSession clientSession = .....getClientSession();
    // EXCEPTION OCCURS on following call:
              Map row = (Map) clientSession.executeSelectingCall( call ).firstElement();
              Object numberArray = row.get( "numberArray" );
              System.out.println("numberArray = " + numberArray);
    But, when I call the stored proc I get the following stack trace:

    Using the SQL/ObjectRelational types as stored procedure arguments is not supported. But it may work...
    You should not pass in the reference to the array type. Instead, do something like this:
    call.addNamedOutputArgument("OUT_NUMBER_ARRAY", "OUT_NUMBER_ARRAY");
    Hope this helps. If not, I suspect it would take some technical services to do this as I don't think the source.zip contains the classes involved in this.

  • Trying to pass array to stored procedure in a loop using bind variable

    All,
    I'm having trouble figuring out if I can do the following:
    I have a stored procedure as follows:
    create procedure enque_f826_utility_q (inpayload IN f826_utility_payload, msgid out RAW) is
    enqopt dbms_aq.enqueue_options_t;
    mprop dbms_aq.message_properties_t;
    begin
    dbms_aq.enqueue(queue_name=>'f826_utility_queue',
    enqueue_options=>enqopt,
    message_properties=>mprop,
    payload=>inpayload,
    msgid=>msgid);
    end;
    The above compiles cleanly.
    The first parameter "inpayload" a database type something like the following:
    create or replace type f826_utility_payload as object
    2 (
    3 YEAR NUMBER(4,0),
    4 MONTH NUMBER(2,0),
    83 MUSTHAVE CHAR(1)
    84 );
    I'd like to call the stored procedure enque_f826_utility_q in a loop passing to it
    each time, new values in the inpayload parameter.
    My questions are:
    First, I'm not sure in php, how to construct the first parameter which is a database type.
    Can I just make an associative array variable with the keys of the array the same as the columns of the database type shown above and then pass that array to the stored procedure?
    Second, is it possible to parse a statement that calls the enque_f826_utility_q procedure using bind variables and then execute the call to the stored procedure in a loop passing new bind variables each time?
    I've tried something like the following but it's not working:
    $conn = oci_pconnect (....);
    $stmt = "select * from f826_utility";
    $stid = oci_parse($conn, $sqlstmt);
    $r = oci_execute($stid, OCI_DEFAULT);
    $row = array();
    $msgid = "";
    $enqstmt = "call enque_f826_utility_q(:RID,:MID)";
    $enqstid = oci_parse($conn, $sqlstmt);
    oci_bind_by_name($enqstid, ":RID", $row); /* line 57 */
    oci_bind_by_name($enqstid, ":MID", $msgid);
    while ($row = oci_fetch_array($stid, OCI_RETURN_NULLS+OCI_ASSOC))
    ++$rowcnt;
    if (! oci_execute($enqstid)) /* line 65 */
    echo "Error";
    exit;
    When I run this, I get the following:
    PHP Notice: Array to string conversion in C:\Temp\enqueue_f826_utility.php on l

    I took a look at this article. What it appears to describe is
    a calling a stored procedure that takes a collection type which is an array.
    Does anyone from Oracle know if I can pass other database type definitions to a stored procedure from PHP?
    I have a type defined in my database similar to the following which is not
    an array but a record of various fields. This type corresponds to a payload
    of an advanced queue payload type. I have a stored procedure which will take as it's input, a payload type of this structure and then enqueue it to a queue.
    So I want to be able to pass a database type similar to the following type definition from within PHP. Can anyone from Oracle verify whether or not this is possible?
    create or replace type f826_utility_payload as object
    YEAR NUMBER(4,0),
    MONTH NUMBER(2,0),
    UTILITY_ID NUMBER(10,0),
    SUBMIT_FAIL_BY VARCHAR2(30),
    MUSTHAVE CHAR(1)
    );

  • Pass array to oracle stored procedure

    I have such a problem: I have to pass array to stored procedure, so I declare type:
    create type tNumberArray as table of number
    and create procedure:
    create or replace procedure proc_1 (in_param in tNumberArray) as
    .... BODY OF PROCEDURE ...
    when I call this procedure from C# like this:
    int []pParam = new int[3] {1,2,3};
    OracleCommand cmd = new OracleCommand("proc_1", dbConn);
    cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
    OracleParameter param14 = new OracleParameter("param", OracleDbType.Decimal);
    param14.Value = pParam;
    param14.CollectionType = OracleCollectionType.PLSQLAssociativeArray;
    param14.Size = 3;
    param14.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input;
    cmd.Parameters.Add(param14);
    cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
    an error occures. It say that there invalid number or type of parameters.
    But when I declare both type and procedure in a package everything goes fine.
    What is the matter? Did anybody have the same problem?

    Not I got next problem:
    when I cannot pass parameter to stored procedure and get array fro it. In other words returning array from procedure and passing some input parameters to it does not word!
    Does anybody know why it happens?

  • Best place in VOimpl java code to call a stored proc to populate results

    Hello all,
    Using JDev 11g, ADF BC and Trinidad.
    I am building an application that is primarily used for searching large amounts of data. We already have stored procedures on the database that perform the searches and dump the results into a holding table (together with a "search id"). I have easilly built a prototype of this application: my view object is simply "select a, b, c from results where search_id = :bv" - I have a service method in the AM that runs the stored procedure, obtains the search ID, binds it to the :bv in the VO and executes the VO's query - it's all working really nicely. Range paging is effective, the VO itself performs well, and I am able to control how long the stored proc runs via setting a timeout value.
    Now, I'd like to generalize this. My thinking is this:
    1). I'll add a custom property to my VO that is the SQL statement needed to call the stored procedure.
    2). I'll add some bind variables to the VO to represent all the query parameters that can be passed to the stored proc. I'll also use custom properties to indicate these are "fake" bvs, and not in the SQL query itself.
    3). The VO's SQL will remain simply "select a, b, c from results where search_id = :bv"
    4). I will (have already tested) override bindParametersForCollection so that the "fake" bind variables aren't bound into the SQL.
    Now, the question: I want to override some method in the VO's java code to call the stored procedure. The stored proc needs to be called before the actual query for the VO is run, and also before the method getQueryHitCount is called (so that the count is correct). What is the method that would be the "best" place to do this? My current thinking is that I would put the call in an over-ridden executeQueryForCollection call. As far as my analysis has gone, it seems to be always called before getQueryHitCount, but I have no way of knowing if this is completely safe.
    Any thoughts from the BC experts out there?
    Best regards,
    John

    John,
    from your description I understand that you essentially program the VO yourself. So I suggest that you read chapter 35.9 of the 'Fusion Developer’s Guide for Oracle Application Development Framework' (I guess you know where to find it). Since you still call the actual SQL not all of the chapter apply, but you get the idea how it works.
    And yes you analyzed the behavior correct. executeQueryForCollection() is allways called bevore getQueryHitCount().

  • Passing array of timestamps into oracle stored proc

    Hey there,
    I have an interesting problem. I need to pass an array of java.sql.Timestamp into a stored proc.
    I see that the PreparedStatement provides a setArray() method which takes as arguments an int, java.sql.Array
    Anybody know how I can use the java.sql.Array to my advantage here ? Basically, I don't see how I can create a java.sql.Array of Timestamps
    thanks in advance for all your help.
    Manish Mandelia

    The java.sql.Array implementation is provided by your jdbc driver.
    For exemple using Oracle you can obtain an sql.Array with something like this :
    Connection con=getConnection() // get a connection to the DB
    //first declare what type of array you will use in the DB
    // you probably want to replace CHAR(7) by Timestamp here
    PreparedStatement createArray=
    con.prepareStatement("CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE MYARRAY AS VARRAY(100) OF CHAR(7)");
    createArray.execute();
    //then get an java instance of this Array
    oracle.sql.ArrayDescriptor arrayDescriptor = oracle.sql.ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor("MYARRAY",con);
    // content is used to fill the Array
    String[] content= {"string0", "string1"};
    java.sql.Array sqlArray=new oracle.sql.ARRAY(arrayDescriptor, con, content);
    // then call your stored procedure
    java.sql.CallableStatement callStmt=con.prepareCall("call MyStoredProcedure(?)");
    // passing the array as an argument
    callStmt.setArray(1,sqlArray);
    callStmt.execute();
    As you can see the code is quite database specific.
    hope that helps.

  • BizTalk Stored Proce-passing XML as one of the Input parameter and String as another parameter

    I have a requirement in BizTalk that
    - I will receive XML from Source and i need to submit this XML data and two other string parameters in  SQL storeprocedure  as a parameters and submit data
    Ex: My_SP(myID Integer INPUT,myXML xml Input,mystring OUT)
    Could you please help me how call storeprocedure and submit multiple parameters in BizTalk.

    you can execute stored procedure by generating schemas from WCF-SQL Adapter.
    for passing parameters you will have to do the mapping to the Generated schema for Stored proc.
    I would suggest to do this in Message Assignment shape, there you can easily assign all the parameters.
    Integer and String parameters can be assigned from normal variables and XML parameter can be inserted as suggested by Abhishek-
    xmldoc=requestMsg;
    varOuterstring=xmldoc.Outerxml.Tostring();
    Please refer the below article.

  • Passing array args into stored procs

    Hi,
    we are trying to use TopLink to perform the mapping of a pretty large schema (200+ tables). For the purpose UI presentation we only need a few different view types, not the full information in the schema, so we want to provide specific "view objects" mapped to the DB that can be batch read by their ids.
    Defining views in the DB and mapping these to objects with TopLink doesn't work well because the views require joins and the tables are pretty large (the WHERE IN on the ids of the rows to read from the view is only applied after the entire view is instantiated).
    Alternatively, we are trying to use stored procedures that take a VARRAY or TABLE OF INTEGER as input arg and return respective cursors. However, we couldn't figure out how to pass array infos into a stored proc using TopLink. Any suggestions?
    Thx,
    Olaf

    I believe when you're doing it with an insert, you're saying "execute this insert statement a bunch of times, here's all the values in advance", which is different than passing an array to a stored procedure where you want it to execute once.
    Oracle's ODBC driver doesnt support Associative Arrays (aka index-by tables).
    Hope it helps,
    Greg

  • Here's how to pass XML as a parameter to an Oracle stored proc

    This, or something like it, should be all over the web and I intend to do so.
    The first sample has exactly what you need in order to pass "XML" as a parm to a stored proc.
    http://www.oracle-base.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8468

    > Really, what is the difference between the 2?
    "What is a...?" questions are easily answered by Google. Generally speaking, however, "JavaScript" is Netscape's implementation of ECMAScript, a scripting language primarily for client-side development for a web browser. "Java" is an entire platform, but typically refers to an object-oriented programming language that is typically compiled to bytecode and run in a virtual machine.
    They're not the same thing at all.

  • Passing series of value to a stored proc

    I call a stored proc from an ASP page (VBScript or Jscript) via ADO and I need to give to this proc a series of value.
    The proc as to execute a query that look like
    select a_Column from a_Table
    where a_TableId in (My_Series)
    I would like to pass My_Series as a single parameter.
    Could I declare My_Series as something like an array ?
    or a string like ( 'A', 'B' , , 'C') ?

  • Replacing null values in optional prompts and passing to stored proc

    Hi,
    I want to create a stored procedure with OPTIONAL prompts. When user does not pass a value for that parameter, I want to set the value for that parameter by selecting from a column in table then I WANT to use that paramvalue in sql within cursor of stored proc. How do I do that?
    In short, I want to do the following Here is the psuedocode:
    Create or replace procedure test (param IN varchar2 DEFAULT NULL)
    As
    var_param varchar(20);
    select param into var_param from dual;
    If param is null then select custid from table1 else var_param
    OPen ref_cursor for
    Select xyz from table2
    where fyy = var_para
    Can someone let me know the syntax on how to do this in stored proc?
    Regards,
    hena

    Hi,
    Merry Christmas, and welcome to the forum!
    Here's one way to do what you requested:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE     test
    (    param     IN     VARCHAR2     DEFAULT     NULL
    AS
        ref_cursor     SYS_REFCURSOR;
        var_param     VARCHAR2 (20)     := param;
    BEGIN
        IF  var_param  IS NULL
        THEN
         SELECT     custid
         INTO     var_param
         FROM     table1
    --     WHERE     ...     -- Unless table1 has only 1 row
        END IF;
        OPEN  ref_cursor
        FOR   SELECT  xyz
           FROM       table2
           WHERE       fyy     = var_param;
    END     test;Whatever you're trying to do, this is probably niot the simplest or most efficient way to do it.

  • Passing Arrays of User Defined Types to Oracle Stored Procedures

    Hi
    I am using WebLogic 8.14 & Oracle 9i with thin JDBC driver.
    Our application needs to perform the same DB operation for every item in a Java Collection. I cannot acheive the required performance using the standard Prepare & Execute loop and so I am looking to push the whole collection to Oracle in a single invocation of a Stored Procedure and then loop on the database.
    Summary of Approach:
    In the Oracle database, we have defined a Object Type :
    CREATE OR REPLACE
    TYPE MYTYPE AS OBJECT
    TxnId VARCHAR2(40),
    Target VARCHAR2(20),
    Source VARCHAR2(20),
    Param1 VARCHAR2(2048),
    Param2 VARCHAR2(2048),
    Param3 VARCHAR2(2048),
    Param4 VARCHAR2(2048),
    Param5 VARCHAR2(2048),
    and we have defined a collection of these as:
    CREATE OR REPLACE
    TYPE MYTYPE_COLLECTION AS VARRAY (100) OF MYTYPE
    There is a stored procedure which takes one of these collections as an input parameter and I need to invoke these from within my code.
    I am having major problems when I attempt to get the ArrayDescriptor etc to allow me to create an Array to pass to the stored procedure. I think this is because the underlying Oracle connection is wrapped by WebLogic.
    Has anyone managed to pass an array to an Oracle Stored procedure on a pooled DB connection?
    Thanks
    Andy

    AndyHi. Here's what I suggest: First please get the JDBC you want to work in a
    small standalone program that uses the Oracle thin driver directly. Once
    that works, show me the JDBC code, and I will see what translation if
    any is needed to make it work with WLS. Will your code be running in
    WebLogic, or in an external client talking to WebLogic?
    Also, have you tried the executeBatch() methods to see if you can
    get the performance you want via batches?
