Passing boolean parameters to Oracle

Hello there everyone.
I have just started to work with Oracle stored procedures. I
have written a procedure that takes a boolean value as one of its
input parameters, but I cannot find out how to get Coldfusion to
pass the value in correctly. If I execute the procedure within the
Oracle client itself it works OK but CF always gives the error
"PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to
'PROC_TEST' ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PL/SQL: Statement
ignored", no matter how I try to pass my boolean value. I have
tried to use all combinations of CF_SQL_BIT and CF_SQL_INTEGER and
"1" and "true" and "TRUE" in the <cfprocparam> tag, but none
of them are working. I guess I could change the code to use an
integer instead, but using a boolean for this example makes the
most sense.
If anyone has any ideas, that would be great.
Regards
Barry.

Hi Phil thanks for replying!
I continued searching Google and came up with the same
conclusion you mention. Here are a couple of links:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/htdocs/jdbc_faq.htm#34_05
http://www.utexas.edu/its/unix/reference/oracledocs/v92/B10501_01/java.920/a96654/tips.htm #1005343
What a strange situation to be in. On one hand they say that
"booleans" can't be used outside of PL/SQL, but what ARE stored
procedures if not PL/SQL? Musing about this does not move us
forward though I think.
I will change my boolean parameter to be something more SQL
(without the PL!) friendly.
Thanks for getting back to me.

  • Passing SQL-Parameters to Oracle-Reports from java

    hello,
    i want to write an application in the following way:
    on a java-frontend an user can select values for different
    parameters. these values should be to transferred to the sql-
    query of the reports rdf file. what is the syntax of an
    parameter passed from java to oracle reports.
    does this work with runtime.exec()... ?
    does anybody have an example.
    any help would be very appreciated.
    greetings
    Thorsten Lorenz

    In order to pass the parameters to report rdf, you can create user parameters in the oracle report builder, hook up the parameters with query. For example, you can create user parameter P_DEPTNO, then create a sql query: select * from dept where deptno = :P_DEPTNO. When you run this report, you give P_DEPTNO=10 as parameter, the rdf will generate report that only prints out department 10's information.
    Once you have this kind of report created, you have several ways to achieve what you want.
    1. use rwrun60. In your java program, you can invoke rwrun60 via runtime.exec(cmd) where cmd = rwrun60 report=dept.rdf userid=scott/tiger@orcl destype=file desformat=pdf desname=dept.pdf p_deptno=<value_from_java_app>
    2. similarly, use rwcli60. the cmd would be:
    cmd = rwcli60 server=repserver report=dept.rdf userid=scott/tiger@orcl destype=file desformat=pdf desname=dept.pdf p_deptno=<value_from_java_app>
    3. use rwcgi60. Instead of using runtime.exec, you should use java URL object to run the report in the web environment.
    option 2 & 3 takes advantage of powerful functionality of reports server, and it is much more scale than option 1.

    It works the same way as I described in this thread [How to pass runtime parameters to MySQL Query from xMII server].  It does not matter the datasource MII will work the same for all queries, at least for passing in parameters.  How to write those queries and their datatypes will be the differences.

  • Passing DATE parameters to Oracle Stored Procedures using ADO

    Does anyone know how can I pass a date parameter to an Oracle
    Stored Procedure? The IN parameter of the procedure is of type
    DATE and the ADO parameter is of type DBDate (I've tried Date
    and DBTimeStamp,too). The execution freezes at "Cmd.Execute".
    Can anyone suggest a solution?
    Thanx for any tips

    As far as I know the documentation on CR & stored procedures says that the REF CURSOR has to be a strongly bound one.
    Could you go into a little more detail? Do you mean I should put a multi-valued parameter into a REF CURSOR? Can you post some code snippets here?

  • Major Plugin Bug Passing Boolean Parameters via JavaScript

    Calling an applet method that sets a boolean property fails under IE with the 1.3.1 Plugin. Method signature in a public object contained by the applet is:
    public void setShowTitle(boolean newVal)
    Attempting the following javascript in an HTML page fails with a "Type Mismatch" error:
    document.MyChart.getChartObject().setShowLegend(true);
    Interestingly, a method with a similar signature, which is in the top level object works fine:
    document.MyChart.updateChart(true);
    Definitely a bug in the plugin!

    Hi,
    IE can only access attributes and methods from a class derived from java.applet.Applet. Therefor, Javascript cannot call methods from the object which is returned from your call to document.MyChart.getChartObject().
    You should create a method (public void showLegend(boolean)) in your applet which can directly be accessed from Javascript, and let this method call the non-Applet derived methods (getChartObject().setShowLegend(boolean)).

  • Passing of BOOLEAN parameters to PL/SQL stored procedures

    Hi ,
    How i can pass BOOLEAN parameter to store Procedure or do i need to pass it as Integer?
    waiting for quick reply
    Thanks in advance ,
    Pramod

    Disclaimer: I work for the company that makes the product mentioned below.
    Procedures that take boolean parameters can be called using JDBC without having to modify them or write additional 'wrapper' procedures. The secret is to write an anonymous block that accepts a numeric parameter and sets a boolean PL/SQL variable with it before calling the procedure.
    [url http://www.orindasoft.com/]OrindaBuild is a utilty made by my employer that does this along with a bunch of other stuff. If you open
    [url http://www.orindasoft.com/public/Java2HTML/com/orindasoft/demo/generated/plsql/simpleExamplesDirectFlightAvailable.java.html]this URL and scroll to the bottom you'll see an example of this technique in use for a BOOLEAN OUT parameter. The relevent code is:
    public String getProcCallStatement()
    236    {
    237    return("DECLARE \n"
    238          +"/* Generated By OrindaBuild 4.0.1919 */ \n"
    239          +"/* Which can be obtained at www.orindasoft.com */ \n"
    240          +"p_fromcity VARCHAR2(32767) := ?; \n"
    241          +"p_tocity VARCHAR2(32767) := ?; \n"
    242          +"p_direct BOOLEAN := null; \n"
    243          +"p_direct_SN SIGNTYPE := null; \n"
    244          +"BEGIN  \n"
    245          +"SIMPLE_EXAMPLES.DIRECT_FLIGHT_AVAILABLE(p_fromcity,p_tocity,p_direct); \n"
    246          +"  \n"
    247          +"IF p_direct IS NULL THEN  \n"
    248          +"  p_direct_SN := 0;  \n"
    249          +"ELSIF p_direct = FALSE THEN  \n"
    250          +"  p_direct_SN := -1;  \n"
    251          +"ELSIF p_direct = TRUE THEN  \n"
    252          +"  p_direct_SN := 1;  \n"
    253          +"END IF;  \n"
    254          +"? := p_direct_SN; \n"
    255          +"END; ");
    256    }     'p_direct' is a boolean variable we use to capture the result of the stored procedure.
    'p_direct_SN' is a variable of SIGNTYPE, a numeric datatype that can have the values -1, 0, or 1. This makes it ideal for representing booleans. The IF statement afte the procedure call sets p_direct_SN based on the value of p_direct. The magic code is in line 254:
    ? := p_direct_sn;
    If you bind '?' as a numeric out parameter you get -1, 0 or 1 back when you run call the stored procedure.
    This technique allows you to call PL/SQL procedures that have boolean parameters without having to write additional PL/SQL code. The only drawback is that you have to work with -1,0 and 1 on the Java side.

  • Passing parameters to oracle query

    Hi Everyone,
    I'm a newbie to oracle and need help passing parameters to an oracle query. For example, I need to show all the employees in a certain department.So a list of "DEPT_CODE"'s will be displayed on a webpage and then the selected value will be passed to the query. I currently have this query in MS Access and use the bracket for user input ("[Dept]"). But how can this be done in oracle?
    I am using ASP.NET 2.0 and Crystal Reports XI. Basically I have a webform where users can select the date range and department from a listbox. When the submit button is clicked, the values are passed to the query in crystal reports. For example, I have a query with "DEPT" as a parameter. So I pass the value of the selected listbox item from the webform to the crystal report. But now I have to select data from an oracle database and provide parameters. This is where I need help.
    Thanks in advance

  • Passing multiple parameters to an Oracle procedure

    I'm having trouble passing multiple parameters to a stored procedure in Crystal Reports 2008 (12.2.0.290).
    I'm using an OLE DB (ADO) connection to an Oracle 10g database.
    I have created a stored procedure that has 3 parameters (in out sys_refcursor, in varchar2, in varchar2) and conforms to all of Crystal Reports' requirements for stored procedures.
    When I select my stored procedure in the Database Expert, it prompts me to enter values for both varchar2 parameters. I enter values and everything seems fine. I close the Database Expert.
    Now the stored procedure is listed in the Field Explorer, but I cannot expand the list of fields. There is a plus sign next to the stored procedure, but clicking on it does nothing. I do not get any error messages.
    If I remove one of the parameters from the stored procedure and try again, everything works fine. I've also tried using a variety of parameter types, but this problem occurs every time there are 2 or more parameters (3 including the ref cursor).
    Please help.

  • Passing parameters to oracle stored procedure in business objects universe

    Hello,
    Wanted to create a web intelligence usind oracle stored procedure.
    Create the  following SP
    create or replace procedure proc_name1
        proc_freq in number,
        proc_cur1 in out sys_refcursor
    as
    begin
        INSERT INTO
                cc    VALUES
                ( 'Frequency Value = ' || proc_freq, SYSDATE) ;
        COMMIT ;
        --daily
            if(proc_freq = 2) then
            open proc_cur1 for SELECT
                        EVENT_DATE
                    FROM rqm_mapsigng_dly_stats;
            end if;
    end;
    tried using the above SP in universe, it is needed to pass the parameter for proc_freq, when i pass value 2 , in oracle it is passed as 0(is being traced in rqm_checkpoint  table)
    Hence the table cannot be inserted in the universe.
    Can anyone tell why the value is not being passed correctly

    I believe when you're doing it with an insert, you're saying "execute this insert statement a bunch of times, here's all the values in advance", which is different than passing an array to a stored procedure where you want it to execute once.
    Oracle's ODBC driver doesnt support Associative Arrays (aka index-by tables).
    Hope it helps,
    Greg

  • Query in Parameters in Oracle Forms 6i

    Can any one explain me how to go with parameters in oracle forms 6i's Object Navigator.If explained with an example it will be of great help for me.
    Thanks,
    Prathap

    Hello,
    Forms parameters are usefull to receive a value from a calling form or for a command line.
    You can pass a value to a form through these parameters, which value can be read inside the form.
    Assume your form have to display only employees of departement 10.
    In the parameter node, you create a new parameter then name it : DEPARTEMENT (number)
    A the start of this form, you can filter the data in the Where clause property of the block:
      DEPTNO = :PARAMETER.DEPARTEMENTand, when the first form call this one, it pass this parameter in the CALL_FORM() built-in
    Declare
      pl_id PARAMLIST;
      pl_name VARCHAR2(10);
    Begin
      -- create the parameter list --
      pl_name :=  'temp';
      pl_id :=  get_parameter_list(pl_name);
      IF NOT ID_NULL(pl_id) THEN
        destroy_parameter_list(pl_id);
      END IF;
      pl_id := create_parameter_list(pl_name);
      -- add the parameter to the list --
      add_parameter(pl_id, 'DEPARTEMENT', TEXT_PARAMETER, 10);
      -- call the employees dialog --
      call_form('EMP_DIALOG', HIDE, NO_REPLACE, NO_QUERY_ONLY, NO_SHARE_LIBRARY_DATA, pl_id);
    End ;Hope this is clear enough.

  • Passing multiple parameters between two report portlets on the same page

    Hi,
    I want to pass multiple parameters between two report portlets on the same page.
    I have been succussful passing a single parameter between two portlets. The
    following are the steps :
    (1) Created first report based on the query
    SELECT htf.anchor('http://192.168.0.84:7778/servlet/page?&_pageid=97&_dad=portal30&_schema=portal30&_mode=3&dept_code='||DEPTNO,DEPTNO) Department, ename FROM EMP;
    (2) Created 2nd report
    select * from EMP where DEPTNO = :dept_code
    (3) Added pl/sql code before display page on the 2nd report
    portal30.wwv_name_value.replace_value(
    l_arg_names, l_arg_values,
    p_reference_path||'.dept_code',portal30.wwv_standard_util.string_to_table2(nvl(g
    et_value('dept_code'),10)));
    (4) Created a page and added these reports as portlets.
    Sofar it works fine for one parameter (deptno) . Now I want to add one more
    parameter say empno to my first report query and would like to pass both the
    parameters deptno and empno to the 2nd report. Please tell me how to pass multiple parameters ?
    Thanks
    Asim

    Hi,
    You will have to do the same thing
    The select will be like this
    SELECT htf.anchor('http://toolsweb.us.oracle.com:2000/servlet/page?_pageid=97&_dad=mb&_schema=mybugs&_mode=3&dept_code='||DEPTNO||'&empno='||empno,DEPTNO) Department,ename
    FROM EMP
    In the additional plsql code do the same for empno like this
    mybugs.wwv_name_value.replace_value(l_arg_names,l_arg_values, p_reference_path||'.dept_code',mybugs.wwv_standard_util.string_to_table2(nvl(get_value('dept_code'),10)));
    mybugs.wwv_name_value.replace_value(l_arg_names,l_arg_values, p_reference_path||'.empno',mybugs.wwv_standard_util.string_to_table2(get_value('empno')));

  • Probs sharing a report that uses SETPARAM to pass multiple parameters

    Ok we have master DB account Disco that creates reports. I also have oracle acct Duser for the users to run the reports.
    Per Metalink Note:304192.1, we've got the setparam stuff working to pass in date parameters into our sheet. This works fine when I run the report as Disco. When I try to share the report to Duser, it still prompts for the dates, but then the report returns all 0's for the results. I have no idea why this is happening.
    Any suggestions on how to share reports with other users that pass in parameters would be much appreciated. thanks!!

    Hi Allen,
    I would always recommend that you use sys_context to pass parameters. You can search this site for sys_context or take a look at (Re: Passing multiple parameters into Custom Folder... for more details.
