Passing custom parameters to activities at runtime (PFE in OBW904)

Hello,
does anybody know, how to pass custom parameters (from the start activity) to external activities. Specially I need a reference to the current task instance (e.g. the unique item key) within a shell script.
At the time now, I've to wrap the external call in a custom pl-tranformation. There I can get the start parameter with parameter binding. Is that the right way?
Is there a OWB runtime API? It w'd be nice, to have it for the dynamic change of custom actitvity attributes (for instance the filename of the "file_exist"-activity).
Ralf

Hello Igor,
1st: thanks for your fast reply.
The customer uses the OWB904821 with Solaris 28 at the server side and a NT-Client. I test some cases with a W2k-Laptop and a local DB-Installation. We use both the RDBMS V.9203. The installation was successful.
We want to call shell scripts (as external activities) from a process flow (to isolate a couple of OS related steps and because of the limitations of the email and file_exists-activity).
In the Data Warehouse we have different schedules of the process flow. With every run of a shell script we've to identify the current incarnation (or instance) of the process flow. Internally there is the auditing task id, but I don't know how to reference it and I think, we should not use it in the application.
In the standalone Workflow-Version we can use the item key parameter in the API-functions for this purpose. I look for a way to pass such a unique start value to an ext. activity.

  • How to pass custom parameters to the Notification message body in a process

    Hi All,
    We are migrating from ORACLE workflows to Oracle OWB process flows as part of upgrade to Oracle 11g R2. Earlier in workflow notification mesages we could attach custom attributes (eg X_NAME) and reference the custom attributes in the notification message body (&X_NAME) to dynamically build the message body as per the custom attribute values.
    I tried to add a cutom parameter X_EMAIL_ID to a OWB process notification activity and trying to pass it to the notification message body by giving the value "This message is from &X_EMAIL_ID" in TEXT_BODY. But when I get the notification message it shows only "This message is from" and it does not show anything about X_EMAIL_ID.
    Please advise Please help us if anyone have used any workaround to dynamically populate the TEXT_BODY in a notification activity based on custom parameters.
    Thanks and regards,
    Shankar

    Hi David,
    Thank you for your suggestions. When I try to bind the variable to the notification activity parameter TEXT_BODY I get this error - VLD-10035: The value of parameter TEXT_BODY in a NOTIFICATION activity must be a literal value, bindings or expressions are not allowed. It looks like the text_body can have only literal values. Could you please advise if you received any such error or how could you resolve them.
    Thanks and regards,

  • Passing application parameters to 9i forms

    We recently converted our Forms 6 forms to 9i, on Solaris. We recompiled them on AIX and got them running, except that I have trouble figuring out how to pass application parameters. We passed the parameters on the run-form command line in our olf forms.
    In 9i, I tried passing the parameter through the URL; I also tried assigning the the parameter values in formsweb.cfg. Does baseHTML need to be involved in this?
    Also Oracle does not certify that forms 9i for AIX. Does anyone know of any problem running on AIX.

    Clayton,
    do you mean custom parameters when saying application parameters?
    if you application contains custom parameters that are passed when starting the Forms, then this can be added using the otherparams parameter.
    E.g.
    otherparams=usesdi=yes myparam1=foo myparam2=foo2
    The other params parameter can be set in the formsweb.cfg file (forms90/server) globally for all applications or individual for a single application. If you need to pass custom parameters in the URL then it could be done more nicely if you specify the following in the formsweb.cfg file
    otherparams=usesdi=%usesdi% myparam1=%myparam1% myparam2=%myparam2%
    In the request URL you would request the application by
    .../forms90/f90servlet?config=myApp&usesdi=yes&myparam1=12&myparam2=hello
    "myApp" would be a named configuration in the formsweb.cfg file like:
    [myApp]
    form=myEmp
    userid=scott/tiger@orcl
    lookandfeel=oracle
    otherparams=usesdi=%usesdi% myparam1=%myparam1% myparam2=%myparam2%
    You don't need to change the baseHTML file for this. The Forms system commands are pre-defined in formsweb.cfg and don't need to be added to the URL
    Haven't heard about Forms not running on AIX, so I cannot help you with this question

  • FLVPlayback to FMS onConnect() custom parameters

    FLVPlayback custom params
    Can anyone please help me with this problem? How do I pass custom parameters to FMS using a FLVPlayback just like
    I can with NetConnection.onConnect()? e.g. Normally I pass custom params to FMS like this:
    netConnection.connect("rtmp://mydomain.com...", param1, param2, ... .etc);
    How do I pass param1... etc. to FMS if I'm using an FLVPlayback component?
    Thank you!

    Thank's for the answer. I will try that!

    However, the command line with NO parameter to the function like the following command works perfect:

    Will OWB commandline not accept function call with parameters? Please treat this as urgent and advice ASAP.
    Thanks.

    Thanks, Mark. It works.However facing another issue. I try to pass to_char(sysdate\,''yyyy/mm/ddhh:mi:ss'') as one of the custom parameters to the mapping as
    @SQLplus_exec_template.sql RTUSER RTLOC PLSQL mapname "," "INPUT_STDT=2002/10/2010:10:03,INPUT_enddt=to_char(sysdate\,''yyyy/mm/ddhh:mi:ss'')"

    ORA-01841: (full) year must be between -4713 and +9999, and not be 0 ORA-06512: at line 1
    ------ end ------
    Questions:
    1. Why does a simple to_char(sysdate\,'yyyy/mm/ddhh:mi:ss') as an input parameter fail?
    2.what is the date format that OWB expects when we pass date as an input parameter.Can the format be modified?
    OWB seems to accept the format yyyy/dd/mm only. If I pass as different format, it errors with ORA 1861 Text: literal does not match format string.
    3. Where can I change the format in OWB if it can be changed.
    NOTE: OWB complains only about INPUT_ENDDT and not INPUT_STDT because, if I hardcode INPUT_ENDDT like 2003/11/178:00 it works.
    example:
    @SQLplus_exec_template.sql RTUSER RTLOC PLSQL mapname "," INPUT_STDT=2002/10/2008:00,INPUT_ENDDT=2003/11/1706:45:59"
    works fine.
    Am I missing something here?
    Thanks again.

  • How does one pass import parameters to a report within a method?

    Hello all,
    Well how does one  pass import parameters to a report which is within a method ...end method.
    for example :
    method 123
    SUBMIT reportname using selection '1000'
    endmethod .
    Here we need to pass values into the selection screen and run the report for those values.
    The values are say 'ABC'   (  tablename "DEF" and field name "HIJ" ).
    I hope the question is clear, awaiting your response
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sandeep.

    Go to SE24
    Parameters: Give the Parameter name, Typing method is "Type" is the domain type that u are selecting, say for e.g :  Parameter is "P_CONT" , its associated type "CHAR32" etc
    For Select Options:  Parameter name say "S_CUST", Type"importing". For this you need to give an associated type which must be created as "TABLE TYPE " in SE11. That table type needs to have a "LINE TYPE" .
    LINE TYPE is a Structure created with components "SIGN, OPTION, LOW & HIGH" for select-Options.
    NOTE: for a Table type related to Customer data fields "say KUNNR", the line type created must have the Component Type and data Type corresponding to the Data Element associated with "KUNNR" ;i.e: "CHAR" etc.
    See if this is clear to you or revert back in case of any Confusion.

  • Probs sharing a report that uses SETPARAM to pass multiple parameters

    Ok we have master DB account Disco that creates reports. I also have oracle acct Duser for the users to run the reports.
    Per Metalink Note:304192.1, we've got the setparam stuff working to pass in date parameters into our sheet. This works fine when I run the report as Disco. When I try to share the report to Duser, it still prompts for the dates, but then the report returns all 0's for the results. I have no idea why this is happening.
    Any suggestions on how to share reports with other users that pass in parameters would be much appreciated. thanks!!
    Allen

    Hi Allen,
    I would always recommend that you use sys_context to pass parameters. You can search this site for sys_context or take a look at (Re: Passing multiple parameters into Custom Folder... for more details.

  • Passing SQL-Parameters to Oracle-Reports from java

    hello,
    i want to write an application in the following way:
    on a java-frontend an user can select values for different
    parameters. these values should be to transferred to the sql-
    query of the reports rdf file. what is the syntax of an
    parameter passed from java to oracle reports.
    does this work with runtime.exec()... ?
    does anybody have an example.
    any help would be very appreciated.
    greetings
    Thorsten Lorenz

    In order to pass the parameters to report rdf, you can create user parameters in the oracle report builder, hook up the parameters with query. For example, you can create user parameter P_DEPTNO, then create a sql query: select * from dept where deptno = :P_DEPTNO. When you run this report, you give P_DEPTNO=10 as parameter, the rdf will generate report that only prints out department 10's information.
    Once you have this kind of report created, you have several ways to achieve what you want.
    1. use rwrun60. In your java program, you can invoke rwrun60 via runtime.exec(cmd) where cmd = rwrun60 report=dept.rdf userid=scott/tiger@orcl destype=file desformat=pdf desname=dept.pdf p_deptno=<value_from_java_app>
    2. similarly, use rwcli60. the cmd would be:
    cmd = rwcli60 server=repserver report=dept.rdf userid=scott/tiger@orcl destype=file desformat=pdf desname=dept.pdf p_deptno=<value_from_java_app>
    3. use rwcgi60. Instead of using runtime.exec, you should use java URL object to run the report in the web environment.
    option 2 & 3 takes advantage of powerful functionality of reports server, and it is much more scale than option 1.

  • Passing VM Parameters through Applet Tag

    Is there some way to pass Runtime JVM parameters through the Applet Tag?
    something like -D"java.security.policy="xxx"
    <Applet >
    <Param Name="JVM_PARAM" Value="-D"java.security.policy="xxx"">
    </Applet>

    Is there a way to set JVM parameters directly in the applet tag? i.e., not by passing generic parameters and then calling setProperty, and not by setting the JVM parameters in the Plug-in control panel.
    For some reason, setProperty will not work correctly in my applet. I can set the new property value, immediately do a getProperty and verify that the new value is returned, but the JVM still uses the old value throughout the life of the applet.
    And I don't want to set the parameter in the control panel, because I don't won't this parameter set for all applets that use the plug-in.
    Thanks,
    Ken

  • Pass additional parameters to AII

    Hi,
    Is it possible to pass additional parameters for Serial Number Request through Name Value pair in a xml? If so then please cite an example.
    The scenario requirement is 3rd party non SAP systems will be requesting Serial Numbers from AII via SAP XI. However additional parameters will also be sent in Name Value pair for certain validations by SAP XI.

    no, you can't do that.
    you could create your own class to extend your
    interactiveobjects and pass additional parameters in your custom
    mouse handlers, but it's even easier, in your situation, to use
    movieclips to dispatch your mouse events and define whatever
    properties you need to use in functionName() as movieclip
    properties and retrieve them using
    MovieClip(e.currentTarget).whateverProperty.

  • How pass url parameters on init webdynpro app.?

    Hi all,
    i want to pass a parameter to my wd app. when its start. How can i do it? where do i have to do it?
    Thanx in advance
    CP

    You can define parameter using two methods:
    1. Via properties of the iview you have created, system will pass these parameters automatically to the iview.
    2. Via Code, you can use Portal Navigation and pass parameters at runtime. Check following sample code:
              WDPortalNavigation.navigateAbsolute(
                        "ROLES://portal_content/myIview/LoadEmployees",
                                    WDPortalNavigationMode.SHOW_INPLACE,
                                    (String) null,
                                    (String) null,
                                    WDPortalNavigationHistoryMode.NO_DUPLICATIONS,
                                    (String) null,
                                    (String) null,
                                    "action=E");
    The last parameter is for passing parameters, in the example parameter name: action and its value: E.

  • Passing multiple parameters to a portlet

    Hi All,
    I have created a portlet form a taskflow, and using the WSRP Producer connection I am adding this portlet into a new application's JSF page.
    1. Is it possible to create a portlet that can accept multiple parameters?
    2. is it possible to map a portlet method to a method in new app.
    3. is there some implicit event that can be passed when all of the parameters are passed to the portlet.
    What my requirement is:- I have to send some 4-5(String) parameters from the new application to the portlet application.
    what would be the sequence in which the setters of this parameters would be called in the Portlet app?
    can you please tell me if this is possible, and how to do it. Some tutorial would help.
    Regards,
    ND

    Your question is WebCenter related and you should ask it in the forum {forum:id=354}.
    Anyway, you can pass multiple parameters to a portlet. Define the parameters as parameters of the corresponding bounded TaskFlow. When the taskflow is wrapped as a portlet producer by the JSF Portlet Bridge all the taskflow parameters will be exposed as separate navigational portlet parameters. If you consume the portlet at some page, then the portlet parameters will be bound to PageDef variables and you can use these variables to pass parameter values to the portlet. If you have to re-send new parameter values at runtime, just set the corresponding pageDef variables and refresh the <adfp:portlet> tag by PPR. Do not forget to mark the portlet's region binding in the PageDef as RefreshIfNeeded, otherwise it will not get the new values and will not refresh.
    Look at the following article in the documentation about using navigational parameter for contextually linking of portlets:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/webcenter.1111/e10148/jpsdg_pages.htm#CHDJABHD
    If you have additional questions, please ask them in the WebCenter forums.

    Hi All,
    I have enabled Managed attachment in EBS.
    I also want to pass few custom metadata along with managed attachment.
    I have followed the section  "6.5 Configuring Managed Attachments Settings"
    from the Application Adapter's guide at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/doc.1111/e17953/c06_confg_attchmts.htm#BABIEIDF
    but still i dont see the custom metadata in the Managed attachment checkin screen.
    thanks,
    swapnil

    Hi Swapnil ,
    You will need to apply the following patch :
    Patch 13943045
    Read me file has all the steps required in addition to the patch to get Custom Parameters sent with EBS request , please check it and complete the steps .
    Once done , check to see if OAF is able to send the parameters .
    If not , then check the request / response files from EBS to get more details .
    Thanks,
