Passing data b/w BW and Web Dynpro

Hi,
I want to create a Web Dynpro application which can retrieve data from BW server. How should i go about it?

Hi Vijith,
I dont think you can publish BW reports in Webdynpro. Webdynpro doesnt have the option of publishing reports
What you can do is use a standard BW iview in portal which is the easiest way or configure the BW server details in the j2EE engine and open the reports using the url
You can use destination service for configuring BW server details in the j2EE engine

The PDK (Portal Development Kit) is especially made to produce portal content based on jsp using the htmlb library. With the combination of JSP and tag libraries, you can even separate the presentation from the logic. However, the use of HTML tags, JSP tags and Scriptlet code demand great discipline when you develop Web applications, as otherwise the advantages of separating the presentation from the logic quickly disappear.
Web Dynpro applications are able to run in a portal also, you can make use of features like portal eventing also (two Web Dynpro based iViews can communicate with eachother as well as two iViews built with PDK). Using the Web Dynpro Client for Java (a beta-version will be available soon) you could use the same application within a SAPGui-like environment also. The new development environment for professional User Interfaces follows the model view controller paradigm and goes a few steps further in UI programming, e.g.:
- Screen management and screen flow
- Automatic data transport
- Re-usability of Web Dynpro components
- Session management
- Internationalization
- etc.
Both development tools are available with the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio.

applet?Why do you ever want to do it? It sounds like setting arguments passed to a program's main method from command line after the main method has been invoked. It is possible though to dynamically set any values for any applet params using php before the applet gets loaded to the browser window as you generate an html file on the server side.

However, if you don't want to reload the applet (together with the page) just to get some new data from the server, you can establish a tcp/ip connection as elchaschab recommended.

Using KM and Collaboration API in portal component and web dynpro

Hi,
I have to develop portal components and Web Dynpros (JAVA) which have to use the following functions:
- copy, delete KM documents
- sending E-Mails
Can anyone give me some actual documentation links for the KM and Collaboration APIs ?
Which references do I need in portalapp.xml for KM/collaboration and which jar-Files do I have to add to the project?
We are using NetWeaver 7.01 SP18.

One more Question: to get the resource Context, I use this code:

IResourceContext resourceContext = new ResourceContext(portalUser);
The method getServiceUser is deprecated, also the com.sapportals.portal.security.usermanagement.IUser is deprecated. Is there an other possibility to get the ResourceContext. (perhaps with com.sap.security.api.IUser) ?

FETCH DATA FROM ORACLE DATABASE USING Web Dynpro

I want to fetch data from ORACLE database using Web Dynpro.How can I do this?

1) Are you sure that you get no results? It sounds like you are having name resolution issues, which would imply that you should be getting an ORA-00942 error indicating that the table doesn't exist (or that you don't have access to the table). If you are not seeing this error, I would tend to suspect an overzealous exception handler.
2) What database account owns the table? What database account is your ASP.Net application using to connect? Assuming these two accounts are different, your application would either have to
- Explicitly prefix the table name with the schema name
- Have a public or private synonym that maps the table name to the fully qualified identifier schema_name.table_name
- Issue the command ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA = <<schema name>> in each session, in which case all queries in the session would use the specified schema name as the default if no schema name is prefixed.

What are the main differences between ( in functionality ) for ITS based and web dynpro based ESS.
I know a few

ITS ESS had inbox concept, where as web dynpro based ESS/MSS has UWL concept for approvals.
The time statemment in ITS uses smart form while we can use Adobe document services for time statement in ESS 2004.
Funcitonality
There was not collective time approvals option In ITS ESS ( not even in ESS 2004 ) but ther is a collective time apporvals in ESS 2004s
Am not pretty mich intrested in look and feel, or the overview page concept but any additional functionality and a shift in the technology used.

SQL data and Web DynPro Compiler

All-
Not sure what I may be doing wrong but I am using the web dynpro compiler for my Visual Composer application because I would like to take advantage of the paging feature that is available for the table control. I am trying to pull data from a sql db. I can deploy the model, but when I try and run it, it errors out. Anyone have an idea?

Passing a parameter while calling a web dynpro application on portal

I am having a web dynpro application which retrieves data from R/3 system via RFC using Jco destinations define in the Portal.
Now we have different kinds of portals running on the same WAS, now I want the application to run which access data from different R/3 systems thru different JCo destinations.
I need to create a logic such that mu application runs fine on any portal with any Jco destination.
Is there any provision to achieve this.

there's an parameter called "sap-wd-arfc-useSys" you can pass to the application, to change the used JCo-Connection (read more at http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005/helpdata/en/f4/651741f163f023e10000000a155106/frameset.htm)
so, if you're running the WD-aaplication on <b>one</b> WAS and call it from different portals, you have to create three (or six with the META-connections) JCo-Connection on your WD-WAS.
In a WD-application you can access URL-Parameters with:
WDWebContextAdapter.getWebContextAdapter().getRequestParameter("<your URL Parameter-Name>");

Hi Rodrigo,
Firstly, list the Standard component under Component Usage of the Component which you are creating in your View.
Second, In the Custom Component, view, goto context, and try to add the node from the Standard component in to your view.
NOTE: The second step requires a Node in component controller of the Standard Component.
Finally, Now in your view, get the data from that and map the data.
NOTE: To do this, I think you need to call your Standard WDA first and then only your node contains data and it will be passed.

hi,
u mighnt need to show the internal table value in some table UI in the WebDynpro ABAP. So u can use the method bind_table for the same to bind ur context node with the internal table values.u can declare the internal table in the same way as u do in the normal ABAP.
DATA :itab TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF ztable.
// itab is my internal table which can be of either ztable or standard table type
now u can use the code wizrd(control+F7) and use the method bind_table .
DATA: lo_nd_cn_node TYPE REF TO if_wd_context_node,
            lo_el_cn_node   TYPE REF TO if_wd_context_element,
           ls_cn_node        TYPE wd_this->element_cn_node.
*     navigate from <CONTEXT> to <CN_NODE> via lead selection

Jsp and web dynpro

Hello All,
We are using web dynpro to add and edit records in a database. We are using jsp to produce reports from the same data since we feel that we cannot acheive the desired effect with web dynpro. The problem is having web dynpro and jsp communicate. I can use portal eventing but sometime I need large amounts of data such as maybe all the search criteria to generate a new report. What would be the best way to do this?

How about creating a dynpro that has a form that has hidden objects that you can link a context variable too within your dynpro. Then have the form submit 'action' be the jsp. If you use method=post, you can pass all kinds of data.
