Passing data to other classes

I have two seperate classes in my program.
The class with main sends an LinkedList to the other class with this statement...
PanelB a = new PanelB();
a.setLink(points);Then in my other class I have this code...
public LinkedList q;Then I have a subclass with this code to accept the LinkedList...
public void setLink(LinkedList p, Graphics g){
q = p;At this point everything is great the data is passing along nicely.
Until I try to send the data to another sub class in the same class...
public void paint(Graphics g, LinkedList q) {
       int k = q.size();
       System.out.println(k);It compiles fine but the program does not print out the size of the LinkedList. It does print it out at every step though before this one. What am I missing or is there a better way of doing all of this?

Okay I messed with the code a little bit this is what I got.
public class shapeDraw{
public static void main (String[] args) {
  JFrame frame = new JFrame("Shape Outline");
  JPanel panel = new PanelB();
  panel.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(500,500));
  frame.getContentPane().add(panel);
  frame.pack();
  frame.setVisible(true);
  LinkedList points = new LinkedList();
  PanelB a = new PanelB();
  a.setLink(points);
}}I left a lot out of the code to make it easier and quicker to read. This is my next class that is called by this class.
public class PanelB extends JPanel {
public LinkedList q;
public void setLink(LinkedList p){
     q = p;
public void paint(Graphics g) {
     Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D)g;
     g2.setPaint(Color.red);
     Point trig = new Point(10,200), trigB = new Point (50, 300);
     double x1=trig.getX();
     double x2=trigB.getX();
     double y1=trig.getY();
     double y2=trigB.getY();
     super.paint(g);
     g2.draw(new Line2D.Double(x1, y1, x2, y2));
}This code draws a line. I would like bring my ListLinked to this subclass because I want to use the points I have stored in it to draw a picture.

  • Passing instance to other classes

    Hi,
    I have the following class
    public class myApp extends SingleFrameApplicationWhen I pass the instance like as given below, the instance of SingleFrameApplication is passed. How can I pass the instance of myApp along with this, so that I can access the variables of myApp class from other classes and packages.
    new TreeTableView(this);Please help.
    Any help in this regard will be well appreciated with points.
    Warm Regards,
    Rony

    Hi,
    i think the constructor of TreeTableView looks sth. like TreeTableView(SingleFrameApplication app), so the TreeTableView takes a SingleFrameApplication and not a myApp. you have two possibilities to access your methods and variables.
    1. Extend TreeTableView with a constructor TreeTableView(myApp app)
    or
    2. You cast the SingleFrameApplication to a myApp everytime you have to access myApp
    =>
    a = ((myApp)singleFrameApplicationInstance).variable;

  • How to pass date parameter from one page to other in BSP application

    Hello gurus,
    In my BSP application i have taken an input field and made its type "date" and its value also of type date and have set showhelp .
    Now once a particular date is given as an input i want to pass its value to next page. And in next page i have to fire a query based on the date entered in previous page...
    Now my prb is that my date value is not getting passed to the next page.
    I have used
    navigation->set_parameter( name = 'BEGDA' value = BEGDA ).
    to pass date parameter.....still parameter is not getting passed.
    plz help me with this.....
    thankx.....

    Hi Eddy,
    By truncation i mean the entire date becomes 10 char including the ' . ' eg(06.12.2006).
    so with begda being 8chars it takes my date as 06.12.200
    as a result my query is not getting executed.
    now i have tried to use a FM  'CONVERT_DATE_TO_INTERN_FORMAT'.
    in my 1st page but still in 2nd page its giving me following error.
    <b>The data that was read could not be written to the specified target field during a SELECT access. Either the conversion is not supported for the type of the target field, or the target field is too short to accept the value, or the data is not in the appropriateformat for the target field.

  • How to pass Data from one form to the other

    Hi all
    Can any one suggest me how to pass data from one form to the other form, which i zoomed from the original one?
    I tried to do this by passing parameter in Event Procedure but i am getting error msg when i am opening the zoomed form.
    If any one of u have any idea, give me a reply
    Thank you
    Suhasini

    If you choose the second alternative you should erase these global variables after the second form is opened
    You can erase the global variable using:
    erase('global_var')

  • How to get data from textfield from an other class

    Hello everyone,
    I have a problem with an application I am writing for school. I want to get the data from a textfield into an other class.
    I have two classes: KlantGui and KlantMenuGui
    Some Codes from KlantGui:
    public String klantNummer;
    //knr
    knr = new JTextField(10);
    p2.add(knr);
    //getValue
    public String getValue() {
         return knr.getText();
    //getKlantNummer
    public String getKlantNummer(){
         klantNummer = getValue();
         return klantNummer;
    }And this one is from KlantMenuGui:
    private KlantGui kg = new KlantGui();
    //This is where I want the data to display
    String klantnr = kg.getKlantNummer();
    p2.add(new JLabel (" Klantnr: "));
    tf4 = new JTextField (10);
    p2.add(tf4);
    tf4.setEditable(false);
    tf4.setText(klantnr);I don't know why but it seems like the getValue() doesn't sends the data. For example if I write klantNummer = "2" instead of klantNummer = getValue(); it does work and I see 2 in the other class.
    Thanks!

    Does knr ever get populated?
    From the code below, you create an instance of a KlantGui, but this will have no values set, then straight away call getValue, which returns "", which is correct since the textfield for the instance of KlantGui just created would be empty?

  • Passing values and calling other classes?

    Hello all.
    I have 2 classes(separate .java files). One is a login class and the other is the actual program. Login class(eventually exe file) should open the other class and pass the login parameters if you know what I mean. Is this possible, or do the 2 classes need to be part of one file?
    Thanks alot
    Milan D

    Login class can be another class in another file
    wht u have to do is to make an instance of login class in the class u want to use that class
    like login lg = new Login();
    and call method of login class
    lg.setUser(username);
    where setUser(String user); is a method of login class
    this way u can pass the parameters to login class
    i hope this might be helpful
    regards

  • Passing data from a panel to a frame / disposing of a frame from in a panel

    Hello, I have recently created a program where all windows are made of seperate frames, now, to make the whole thing a bit more appealing and professional looking, i'd like to make 1 main frame, and load my content panels into this 1 frame. Problem i'm having with this is passing data from the loaded in panel to the main frame, so the main frame can hide one panel to load another with data inserted in the first panel. OR another solution to my problem would be a way to dispose of a frame, but from within the seperate panel class. I have searched the www for a solution, but haven't found one so far, so, any suggestions or references to some info about this kind of issue? Any pointer is greatly appreciated

    kennethdm wrote:
    EDIT: I took a look at the cardlayout, and, although i see its relevance to my question, it still leaves me with the question how exactly i will pass data the user inputs into the first panel, to the second panel. The second panel is built by the info which is provided in the first panel.Stop thinking of them as Panels and start thinking of them as OOP objects that have data that must be shared. It's often a matter of using getters and setters and sometimes requiring a sprinkling of the Observer design pattern.

    thank you
    the original problem sounded like an ideal opportunity to use Modal Dialog. if you want one frame to display another to get user input then you need to stop the method in the main frame from executing until you recieve a valid input.
    you can use your own class and keep all of the components that you have in the connect frame but you would have to extend JDialog instead of JFrame.
    there is a way around it!
    if you must use JFrame for both, then you need to have access to the main frame in the connect frame, maybe pass the pointer to the constructor??
    anyway, when the connect frame is done with its duties, you have to use the pointer to call another method in the main frame that will continue the process. otherwise main frame doesn't know when connect frame is done and by that time, the method in main frame that instantiated the connect frame has long since died.
    also, it allows things to happen in the other window that you may not want to happen until the connect frame is done
    typically users of software start clicking around on things and you could have three or four connect frames going at the same time
    it's really best to use a Modal Dialog, it really can look just like a JFrame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Passing values to different classes.

    Class A (main panel) calls Class B (calendar panel) and Class C (textbox and buttons panel). When the users changes dates on the calendar class B, class C needs to be notified of the new values.
    I have two constructors in class C...an empty parameter constructor that is used when the main panel(A) calls it, and a constructor that accepts an Object as a parameter (which is the list of dates selected on the calendar), used when class B calls it.
    My problem is that when the values are changed on the calendar, class C is not holding on to the list of dates. In my constructor, I am enumerating through the list...so I know the values are being passed, but when I try to use the list later on in the code (when a button is clicked) the list is empty.
    Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this problem?
    Thanks!!!!

    you can do something like that:
    public someClass {
    someOtherClass obj;
    public someclass (someOtherClass object) {
    this.obj = object;
    public void someMethod () {
    if (condition) { obj.someOtherMethod();  }
    public someOtherClass {
    //constructor here
    public void someOtherMethod () { //do Stuff }
    like this you could pass values between your classes A, B and C

  • Best method for passing data between nested components

    I have a fairly good sized Flex application (if it was
    stuffed all into one file--which it used to be--it would be about
    3-4k lines of code). I have since started breaking it up into
    components and abstracting logic to make it easier to write,
    manage, and develop.
    The biggest thing that I'm running into is figuring out a way
    to pass data between components. Now, I know how to write and use
    custom events, so that you dispatch events up the chain of
    components, but it seems like that only works one way (bottom-up).
    I also know how to make public variables/functions inside the
    component and then the caller can just assign that variable or call
    that function.
    Let's say that I have the following chain of components:
    Component A
    --Component B
    -- -- Component C
    -- -- -- Component D
    What is the best way to pass data between A and D (in both
    directions)?
    If I use an event to pass from D to A, it seems as though I
    have to write event code in each of the components and do the
    bubbling up manually. What I'm really stuck on though, is how to
    get data from A to D.
    I have a remote object in Component A that goes out and gets
    some data from the server, and most all of the other components all
    rely on whatever was returned -- so what is the best way to be able
    to "share" data between all components? I don't want to have to
    pass a variable through B and C just so that D can get it, but I
    also don't want to make D go and request the information itself. B
    and C might not need the data, so it seems stupid to have to make
    it be aware of it.
    Any ideas? I hope that my explanation is clear enough...
    Thanks.
    -Jake

    Peter (or anyone else)...
    To take this example to the next (albeit parallel) level, how
    would you go about creating a class that will let you just
    capture/dispatch local data changes? Following along my original
    example (Components A-D),let's say that we have this component
    architecture:
    Component A
    --Component B
    -- -- Component C
    -- -- -- Component D
    -- -- Component E
    -- -- Comonnent F
    How would we go about creating a dispatch scheme for getting
    data between Component C and E/F? Maybe in Component C the user
    picks a username from a combo box. That selection will drive some
    changes in Component E (like triggering a new screen to appear
    based on the user). There are no remote methods at play with this
    example, just a simple update of a username that's all contained
    within the Flex app.
    I tried mimicking the technique that we used for the
    RemoteObject methods, but things are a bit different this time
    around because we're not making a trip to the server. I just want
    to be able to register Component E to listen for an event that
    would indicate that some data has changed.
    Now, once again, I know that I can bubble that information up
    to A and then back down to E, but that's sloppy... There has to be
    a similar approach to broadcasting events across the entire
    application, right?
    Here's what I started to come up with so far:
    [Event(name="selectUsername", type="CustomEvent")]
    public class LocalData extends EventDispatcher
    private static var _self:LocalData;
    // Constructor
    public function LocalData() {
    // ?? does anything go here ??
    // Returns the singleton instance of this class.
    public static function getInstance():LocalData {
    if( _self == null ) {
    _self = new LocalData();
    return _self;
    // public method that can be called to dispatch the event.
    public static function selectUsername(userObj:Object):void {
    dispatchEvent(new CustomEvent(userObj, "selectUsername"));
    Then, in the component that wants to dispatch the event, we
    do this:
    LocalData.selectUsername([some object]);
    And in the component that wants to listen for the event:
    LocalData.getInstance().addEventListener("selectUsername",
    selectUsername_Result);
    public function selectUsername_Result(e:CustomEvent):void {
    // handle results here
    The problem with this is that when I go to compile it, it
    doesn't like my use of "dispatchEvent" inside that public static
    method. Tells me, "Call to possibly undefined method
    "dispatchEvent". Huh? Why would it be undefined?
    Does it make sense with where I'm going?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Flash Vars is not working when we accessing from other class files

    Hi all, I'm currently developing a flex application where i
    need to pass the data from the flash vars to the other class files
    instead of the main actionscript class file.
    Does any body know how i should go about doing that?? you can
    see this below code : please help me out if u know how to solve
    testnew2.as file
    package {
    import flash.display.Sprite;
    import flash.display.LoaderInfo;
    public dynamic class testnew2 extends Sprite {
    public var
    xmlfile:String=String(root.loaderInfo.parameters.lists);
    public function testnew ():void{
    package {
    import flash.text.TextField;
    import flash.display.Sprite;
    import flash.display.LoaderInfo;
    public dynamic class testnew extends testnew2 {
    public function testnew () {
    var myText:TextField = new TextField();
    // this assumes that you are going to pass in an id variable
    // on the end of the myFile.swf?id=12345 or
    // use FlashVars in the HTML parameter list for instance
    // 'FlashVars', 'id=123456', 'width', '1024',
    myText.text = new testnew2().xmlfile;
    addChild(myText);
    but if we access in same file it is working fine:
    package {
    import flash.text.TextField;
    import flash.display.Sprite;
    import flash.display.LoaderInfo;
    public dynamic class testnew extends Sprite {
    public function testnew () {
    var myText:TextField = new TextField();
    myText.text = String(root.loaderInfo.parameters.lists);
    addChild(myText);

    Pass the data into the main app, then from there either pass
    it into the sub-components or use
    Application.application.parameters, or bind to the values.

  • How to pass data between views using Flex for mobile?

    Hi,
      In my 1st view, I have set of images. Each image represents a product category. When I click on an image, it has to show my 2nd view which is a list. This should show all the products linked to this category.
    I saw few examples where the 1st view is a list. Select an item in a list shows the details in the next view.
    But what I need is, I need to know which image is clicked in my 1st view (ie) Home page. This id needs to be passed to my 2nd view to retrieve the data for the clicked image (clicked product category).
    Can anyone help me in this?

    Chellaa2011,
      If I understand you correctly, you can pass data to the next view by passing the second parameter to the pushView method.
      check out: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/spark/components/ViewNa vigator.html#pushView()
      I've written similar apps in the past and found that a singleton class alleviates some of these issues.  If you use a singleton to track currently selections all your views can access the same data without having to pass and return data from each other.
    Hope this helps,
    KLee
