Passing parameters between portletized ADF Faces applications, possible?

Hello,
In the developer guide, section 4.5.3 (http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32110_01/webcenter.1013/b31074/jpsdg_pages.htm#CHDGGCGE) it says that you can synchronize portlets using an ADF Faces component value. However, that example do not use a value coming from a real portlet, the parameter come from a selectOneChoice define in the container page.
Is there a way to achieve the same thing but with the selectOneChoice being placed in the WSRP 2.0 portlet? Basically the communication scheme is WSRP 2.0 to WSRP 2.0 which is something possible using URL parameters. However, the problem with JSF components is that they pass their values through a JavaScript launched POST submit so the values are never added to the URL and even worst, you cannot be sure of the generated parameter name as it depends on the context in which the component exists (mainly the presence of a parent NamingContainer) and the only way to know that parameter name for sure is to have a way to call component.getClientId(facesContext) which is impossible for the portlet container and therefore for the other portlets.
To put it shortly, is there a way to send a navigation parameter from a portletized ADF Faces application to its container page beside using goButton and goLink (we need to keep the action/actionListener functionality)?
Regards,
Simon Lessard

Can someone explain how to assign a value to a parameter in JSF like in the ParameterFormPortlet source code? Something in replacement of this :
    if (viewMode)
      // Set the new parameter values. These will be intepreted by the
      // container as navigational parameters as the names match the names of
      // the declared parameters.
      actionResponse.setRenderParameter(PARAMETER1, param1);
      actionResponse.setRenderParameter(PARAMETER2, param2);
      actionResponse.setRenderParameter(PARAMETER3, param3);
    }I mean, how to replace setRenderParameter to achieve the same thing inside a JSF binding bean for example. Is it possible via the PortletContext?
Thanks in advance for any hint.

  • Passing parameters between portlets (PL/SQL PDK)

    I'm new to the PDK, so forgive me if this is a dumb question. I need to develop a portal page containing a single search portlet, and then many other associated portlets which bring back various bits of data based on the result of the search.
    Is it possible to drive the content of other portlets on the same page by passing values from one to another and refreshing the whole page?
    null

    Neil,
    You can definitely pass parameters from one portlet to another in PL/SQL and we actually have a sample that you can take a look at. In the PDK, download the Parameter passing and CSS Example Provider sample. http://technet.oracle.com/products/iportal/files/pdkjan/index.html
    Click on PL/SQL
    One of the portlets demonstrates how to pass parameters to one portlet or all portlets on a page.
    Hope this helps,
    Sue

  • Passing parameters between portlets with in the same page

    Hello,
    I have created a Form and a report. The form allows a user to make some selection values, and then upon submit it passes the selected values to the report to query the database. The results from the query are displayed in a new - seperate - window from the form. Is there anyway to disaply the report results on the same page as the form that called the report? I guess I am trying to have a page with 2 portlets (a form, and a report). I want the user to be able to make a selection from the form portlet and pass that selection to the report portlet within the same page.
    Thanks,
    McKell

    Hi I received this info from an OSS named Mahantesh. I thought it was very helpful information for passing portlet parameters between a form and a report within the same page.
    Please check these steps to pass parameter from form to report:
    This article is based on demo tables EMP and DEPT.
    1. Create a report RPT_DEPT using the query 'Select * from dept where deptno= :deptno'
    2. Create a form FRM_EMP based on EMP table.
    3. Edit the form FRM_EMP => 'Formatting and Validation Options' section => click on DEPTNO field
    => Give the value for the 'Link' (under 'Display options') as 'javascript:runrep()' where runrep is the name<br>
    of javascript function that we are going to create later.
    4. In 'Form text' section, in the 'Footer Text' add the code for the runrep function as follows.
    <script>
    function runrep()
    var formObj = document.forms[0];
    var deptno;
    for (var i=0; i < formObj.length ; i++){
    if (formObj.elements.name == 'FORM_EMP.DEFAULT.DEPTNO.01'){
    //FORM_EMP is the form name
    deptno = formObj.elements[i].value;
    break;
    var url="/portal/page?_pageid=38,1,38_31678:38_31787&_dad=portal&_schema=<br>
    PORTAL&deptno=" + deptno;
    //modify the url according to your environment.<br>
    window.location=url;
    }<br>
    </script>
    5. Modify the URL in the above code with your page url on which form and report portlets have been placed.
    6. Goto Page properties => Parameters tab (Parameters and Events option should have been enabled at Pagegroup level).
    7. Create a page parameter and map it with report portlet parameter.
    8. Now run the page, enter deptno or query the form to get the deptno and click on the link next to deptno field. You should get report with corresponding deptno on the page.

  • Passing parameters between portlets

    Hi , I have a page with two portlets : one , done with the wizard , is a form , the other one is another form , but is done with a JSP.
    My trouble is that with the second form , the one done with a JSP , I must insert into the database two values , one retrieved by the jsp itself , and the other one is a value of one field of the other form.
    My question is how can I get , from my jsp , that value coming from the other portlet ???
    Thanks
    max

    Hi,
    You can redirect to another page and pass parameters to it. For this, you need to know the pageid to which you have to redirect. Assign form action to
    http://machine:port/servlet/page
    PageServlet requires few other parameters (form fields) to redirect the control to the required page.
    You can get them by making a call to
    HttpPortletRendererUtil.htmlFormHiddenFields(pr,PortletRendererUtil.PAGE_LINK)
    This returns a string similar to the following.
    <INPUT TYPE="hidden" name="_pageid" value="54" />
    <INPUT TYPE="hidden" name="_dad" value="portal30" />
    <INPUT TYPE="hidden" name="_schema" value="PORTAL30" />
    Parse it for _pageid and change the value to the page you want to redirect. Print these contents inside your form. Once you submit the form, it'll redirect the control to the page you want with the parameters.

  • Passing Parameters between Portlets or pages

    Hi,
    How can we pass the data from a Portlet in one page to another Portlet in a different Page??
    Requirement: I want a portlet which should take some parameters(basically a form),On submit should process the parameters and should forward the result to a Portlet in another page.
    Regards
    Yash

    Yash,
    You could use session variables to save information that can be used during the browser session. Example would be the form asks a user for their nickname. The user types in his nickname and hits the submit button. The form will then save the info in a session variable. Then any other portlet can open that session variable and get the info and use that info. Now if the browser is closed, the info in the session variable is lost. Check out this link:

  • Communication between separate ADF Web Applications

    Using 11.1.1.5 of JDeveloper I have two Fusion Web Applications that each have a single "view" task flow. Those task flows will be dropped into regions within a WebCenter Portal application so they behave like portlets. I'd like to have a value from one app passed to the other app and have the second app respond to the change. It seems like it should take about 10 minutes but so far... two weeks without any progress. I'm incredibly frustrated. Does anyone have a simple list of the steps I need to perform to pass parameters between task flows? Please help! All I'm looking for is step 1: set up this, step 2: set up that. I can't believe it's this hard.
    All of the samples I find on line are about inter portlet communication with JSR 286 portlets, WSRP portlet producers or inter-component communication. I've read this too: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/issue-archive/2011/11-may/o31adf-352561.html but I haven't been working with JDev and WebCenter for 5 years so it simply doesn't make sense. For example, one piece of sample code looks like this
    public void handleEventStringPayload(String customPayLoad) {
    FacesContext fctx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    ELContext elctx = fctx.getELContext();
    ExpressionFactory exprFactory =
    fctx.getApplication().getExpressionFactory();
    ValueExpression ve =
    exprFactory.createValueExpression(elctx, "#{backingBeanScope.mirrorPageBean}",
    Object.class);
    MirrorPageBean mirrorPageBean = (MirrorPageBean)ve.getValue(elctx);
    mirrorPageBean.setMirrorValue(customPayLoad);
    AdfFacesContext adfFacesContext = AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    adfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addPartialTarget(mirrorPageBean.getMirrorTextField());
    Pretend I don't know the nine layers of technology involved here. Why in the world do I need all of this stuff in this order just to set a parameter... or is that NOT what this is doing? Why are they doing addPartialTarget? What does that do? Why do they have an EventObjectHandler and an EventStringHandler? The article is clearly written for an experienced WebCenter developer and that simply isn't me. If anyone has a resource that shows me how to pass parameters between web apps that actually explains the steps needed and why they need to be taken, that would be great.
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi!.
    To communicate two regions (ADF Task Flows) in a WebCenter Portal Page you have "Contextual Events Framework".
    You can learn it following this Blog entries:
    http://technology.amis.nl/blog/3365/adf-11g-how-events-in-one-region-cause-other-regions-to-refresh
    http://andrejusb.blogspot.com/2010/10/contextual-events-framework-and-adf-11g.html

    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIVom59Kq2U
    In addition, you can communicate two regions without Contextual Events following this entry:

  • Oracle JSF portlet Bridge - Passing parameters to Portlet

    Hi All,
    I am referring following link to pass parameters to portlets that are created from TaskFlow.
    http://sqltech.cl/doc/oas11gR1/webcenter.1111/e10148/jpsdg_bridge.htm#CACCJCAA.
    I am able to pass values to portlet by having setters for respective navigation parameter exposed in oracle-portlet.xml file
    Now, how to invoke the method in a portlet that will make use of the passed values and do further processing. The method would be same as getEmployees() mentioned in the tutorial above. But the getEmployee method is not invoked event after doing all the event mapping.
    Regards,
    Sanjay

    AH, if you are using ADF faces than the risk gets smaller. If you are used to eclipse and you developer your ADF application there than i see a good chance for succeeding later on.
    You might have small issues when migrating to JDeveloper but i don't think they will be blocking.
    If you are working with lots of WS, have you looked at the different types of mash-ups you have in WebCenter?
    For example the omniportlet which allows you to integrate webservices and style the parameter forms and output.
    You can also create data controls at runtime in Webcenter that are based upon webservices.
    There aren't many cases available. Maybe you should come to OOW in October (if that isn't to late). There will be some customers presenting their use cases there.

  • Passing parameters from portlet reports to portlet forms

    Hi,
    I'm tring to pass parameters between a Report displayed as a portlet in a page ( page 1) and a form displayed in other page ( page 2).
    The problem is i can't do this.
    I only can pass parameters from a report ( running as normal or in a portlet displayed in a page) to a form running "normal" by using application links. Can i do this between a report that show's me every employees of scott.emp table. Then when i click on each employee, it open's me another page with the portlet form of the specified employee.
    I'm not sure i made myself clear. Please send me some feedback.
    Pedro

    I have the same problem. Please let me know if this could be done.
    In particular my form is a type of "Form on Table/View."
    Thanks

  • Portletizing ADF Faces - Portlet Unavailable - Is there a Working Sample?

    Hi,
    It seems I have run into a similar issue as some people before me. I have watched all samples, read all relevant forum threads and yet I cannot solve my problem.
    I have created a very simple ADF Faces applications that uses DataBinding - it displays records from a database table in an af:table component based on ADF BC. I have created the page, added the Portlet Faces Bridge library to the project, created the portlet.xml, copied and pasted and configured the Portlet.xml contents for my Portlet. Deployment is to a local yet standalone WebCenter containing OC4J instance. Note: deploying to the preconfigured OC4J also did not work.
    When I register the Portletproducer, consume the portlet in an otherwise empty JSF page and run that page, I get the Portlet Unavailable message in the page. The error log is shown below.
    I am wondering where to go from here, what can I try to analyze? And also: is there a working sample available for download of an ADF Faces based portlet that can successfully be consumed by an application?

    Hello
    I am trying to portlize an hello world ADF application but am unable to do so because of the situation describe below. I have tried all the options given on this post but nothing seems to resolve the issue.
    I have followed the instructions of portelizing at http://download-east.oracle.com/otndocs/tech/webcenter/files/owcs_10132_bridge_viewlet.html
    A simple portlets without AFD works fine in oc4h or webcenter or jboss, but when I include ADF in the project then none of the application server or the container works
    I am using jdeveloper 10.1.3.2.0 and the embedded webcenter oc4j for this test
    I have two projects
    1) ui where the ADF appplication is and
    2) test1 where the producer is registered and is tested
    In ui I have a simple jsp page untitled1.jsp with just one adf component (ADF Command Link)
    Here is the source of untitled1.jsp

  • How to minimize Client-Server Round-trip in ADF Faces application ?

    Hi All,
    We have just finished POC on our prototype of ADF Faces + ADF BC application. The POC Emphasizes on Bandwidth requirement.
    After receing the result from the communication provider, including : TCP packets send, Bytes sent from/to server and number of Client-Server Round-Trip.
    There are several part of the application that Must be tuned for the application to run on acceptable performance.
    Here is some page/ function that should be tuned :
    - First page, ADF Read Only Table with two images and some buttons, cause 5 round-trip
    - ADF Dialog Returning Value (as LOV), cause 4 Round-trips
    - On ADF Form, press Commit button, cause 3 Round-trips.
    So the question is :
    1) How to reduce round-trips on ADF Faces application ?
    2) How to minimize the bytes send from / To server on a specific user action ?
    Please give me some recommendation..
    Thank you very much,
    xtanto

    Hi Frank and Steve,
    Thank you for your reply.
    Yes Frank, what I mean by Round-Trip is the traffic between Client and the Server. And Yes, we will use VSAT where the latency is 1 - 1.5 second, so that round-trip matters significantly.
    What I will do is :
    - use minimal skin and No image at all
    - don't use Dialog for LOV because it requires AutoSubmit there.
    - Use 'Apply-Changes' button to do server-side validation before Commit.
    Then do the POC / testing again.
    Thank you,
    xtanto

  • Trying to pass parameters between GUI classes and methods

    Hi All.
    I have been working on a rather large final year project in college and it is getting close to the deadline. It looks as though I need to "tidy up" my code as it contains too many static methods, variables and other bad programming habits. My package consists of many different GUI's and classes. Up until now I have been calling different GUI's with guiName.NameOfMethod. I have been told this is bad practice so I am trying to fix this. Also instead of passing parameters correctly I have been creating static variables in my main class and using them. So for example if one class needed to pass a variable to the other I would first myGlobalVariable = X; in the first class. And then the second class can use this. This is also bad, right?
    So I guess im really just looking for a good example or tutorial on how to pass parameters between classes and methods, GUI if possible. Here is an example of how my GUI classes look:
    public class anotherGUI extends JFrame implements ActionListener {
            private JTextField a, b, c;
            private JButton button1, button2;
            JPanel p, p1;
            public anotherGUI() {
                LayOutAnotherGUI();
                setLocationRelativeTo(DnDMain.pictureArray[a]);
                setTitle("Example");
                setVisible(true);
                pack();
            private void LayOutAnotherGUI(int c) {
         //GUI is layed out here
            public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
                Object source = e.getSource();
                if (source == submit)
                    clickOK();
            public void clickOK(){
                //Here is where I have been accessing and modifying static global variables.  (But this needs to change).
    public void showanotherGUI() {
            new anotherGUI();
    }This is more or less how I have been going about creating my GUI's. These are used as pop ups. The user enters a value and then it is closed.
    To be honest I have been able to pass a variable correctly from one class to a GUI class but I have still having difficulty. For example in my code above I can pass the variable into this class but I cannot pass it into clickOK(). An this is where it is needed.
    Can anyone please help?
    I hope I have explained my problem well.
    Thanks in advance.

    I dont think that is what I need. An example of what I do in my program is:
    I have a main GUI with an array of images. There are a number of other small GUI's that appear for certain functions when the user clicks on an image or does some other function. I am trying to pass a value into the GUI class that is used for the smaller "pop up" GUI. So lets say the user has clicked the image in array[12]. Then a GUI is displayed. I need to pass the integer 12 into this class.
    Thanks.

    StateManagerImpl.saveSerializedView tries to let UIViewRoot be a session
    attribute and the error message says it should be serializable; certainly it' not.
    I think HttpSession.setAttribute does not claim the object should be serializable.
    I don't know why apache's StandardSession.setAttribute claims so.

  • OBIEE 11G - Issue passing parameters between two reports

    Hi folks,
    I am struggling to pass parameters between two reports in OBIEE 11G.
    My first report contains the following columns: Rolling Year Type (VCHAR), Year(VCHAR), Month(VCHAR), Cost(Double).
    My second report contains the following columns: Rolling Year Type(VCHAR), Year(VCHAR), Month(VCHAR), Category(VCHAR), Cost(Double).
    My requirement is to pass the Rolling Year Type, Year and Month values from report 1 to report 2.
    On the Month column properties of report 1, I have created an Action Link called 'Drill to Category'. I have clicked on 'Navigate to BI Content' and selected Report 2.
    Then on Report 2, I have included three filters: Rolling Year Type is prompted, Year is prompted, Month is promted.
    When I run the report I always get the following error:
    The specified criteria didn't result in any data. This is often caused by applying filters and/or selections that are too restrictive or that contain incorrect values. Please check your Analysis Filters and try again. The filters currently being applied are shown below.
    When I check the cursor cache, the filter values are correct. Does anybody have any idea why Report 2 does not display?
    When I remove the Month filter, the report works correctly.
    I have since changed the third filter to be Month No and although Report 2 does display, it does not pick up the filter on the Month No.
    I initially thought this may have been a caching issue and so I have disabled BI Server Cache but this does not fix my problem.
    This was never an issue on OBIEE 10G as I found it very easy to navigate between two requests.
    Has anyone else experienced problems with passing parameters between two request in 11G?
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks
    Gavin

    Hi,
    I once tried this kind of requirement(with dashboard prompts though) and hit at similar issue. I later found out that the problem is with the space in the parameter values. Can you please let me know, if the same is the case with you?
    Suppose the parameter passed is "Jan 2010", but the report on the destination takes the value as "Jan" & "2010". Yes, it kind of split the parameter value to two based on space. I think we can notice the filters the destination report got, by enabling filter view.
    In this case, since you pass only value at a time, could you try placing the parameter value anyway in double quotes? I think the Server then will understand it as one value.
    Thank you,
    Dhar

  • What about security in adf faces application ?

    It seem that the documentation has a little bit changed about security for adf faces application.
    SRDemo J2EE sample application only implemented the security at the web container and may be for the session beans (don't remember) by using security-role and security-constraint in web.xml configuration file.
    It seem that the documentation recommand now to implement adf security and didn't find anymore the reference to the standard j2ee security implementation.
    We found also that the security constraints checked by the web container was sometimes ignored and the container didn't ask us to login before displaying a page.
    Is ADF security a clear Oracle recommandation for ADF Faces application ?
    What about j2ee security for this type of application (why it is not recommended to use it) ?

    Hi,
    there is no single recommedation about security because security ideally is applied on several levels to implement security in depth. Container managed security with J2EE is a good option to secure page access and - if using EJB - to propagate the user identity for method level access control.
    Using ADF Security, which is security added to the binding layer based on JAAS, a second layer of the security onion becomes available that allows you to define which user is allowed to perform which operation on an iterator or attribute binding. This goes beyond of what container managed security can do for you.
    The thrid layer is business layer security and eventually database security.
    For Oracle Open World we will have a developmengt track and one of the presentation I am giving with Ric Smith from our team is about end-to-end application security for ADF Faces, ADF, ADF BCor TopLink/EJB and the Oracle database.
    The plan is to also write this up in a paper, but this would come late because of other priorities I have on my plate. So attending OOW probably is the best option for you to get the big picture
