Passing parameters from HTML to forms 9i

I am currently trying to design an application which is called from the web but the application is on forms 9i.
Once the URL is called the user id needs to be entered and then this needs to be passed on to the main form . As I understand it this user id needs to be passed form HTML into the first form on 9i.
Can anyone help me with the way this can be done

Thanks for all your replies but I still am not sure. Let me expain my problem in a little detail. I have an apps server which connects to the database using an user id and password. This is what is defined in the formsweb.config.
However the users are given non database userids which are authenticated before they connect to the main form. I need to pass this user id to the main form as i use this user id to write into audit columns , the user id password entered in formsweb.config is fine but the one i am looking for is something that I authenticate with before calling the main form which is not the database userid.
All in all when i enter a user id and password on a webpage and click a button when the url to call the mai n form start working as it has the label associated with the .fmx and defined in the formsweb.config and calls the main form so I need to pass that user id to the main form????
Does this give a better idea of my problem???

You can do that using PSP ( PL/SQL Server Pages ) using basic autentication. If you want to get information about you can install Oracle 8.1.7 or higher and invoke the following URL : http://localhost and make click in mod_plsql.

Passing parameters from report to form

Passing parameters from report to form portlet

I am trying to link data in a report to a form. Here's the gist: I click on a record in the report and the data is passed to a form in update mode. The problem is that when I click on the record the data is not passed right away to the form. Only after clicking the record again or refreshing the page does the data get passed. Any ideas? I'm sure it's something very simple that I'm missing. Here's the code below:

Your code seems to be OK.
The problem of the data not appearing when you do the query manually (i.e through an API call), is a bug and has been fixed in patch 3.0.9.8.3.

Problem with passing parameters from HTML

Im unsure as to where to turn next with this problem. What is making it all the more infuriating is that I have had this code working previously and now cant for the life of me figure out how I did it.
What Im trying to do is I have a HTML page with two buttons on, one called "Submit Application" and the other "Submit Resource" and when I click on one I want a JSP page to be called and a certain piece of SQL to be executed, likewise when I click on the other "Submit Application" button I want a separate bit of SQL to be executed. (I know in this example both bits of SQL are identical but that is just while I get the functionality correct).
Whats happening is that the first bit of SQL will execute if I click the "Submit Resource" button, however when I click the "Submit Application"
button I get a "Error 500:" displayed. Im at the end of my tether as to what to do next and as I say it makes it all the more infuriating in that I had it working before. So any help would be greatly appriciated.

You make your comparisons like this:
if (!Subapp.equals (null))
Well, what happens if Subapp IS equal to null. The .equals method call will be called from a NULL and you will get a NullPointerException.
When testing for null you do:
if (Subapp == null) (or if (Subapp != null)
This is okay when dealing objects even with the mantra of 'don't use == to compare objects, because what you are really testing is if the reference points anywhere, and == will compare the reference.
Also, next time you post, make sure to use the [code] tags as described in the [Formatting Help] link. It will make it easier to read.
Also, you should try to remove the SQL from the JSP. Move it into a Servlet which builds a List that forwards to another JSP for display, or use a bean. Using java classes like Servlets and JavaBeans makes it easier to debug, and makes your JSP code easier to manage.

Passing parameters from URL to Forms 9i

Hi,
Can anyone tell me how I can pass a user-defined parameter into an Oracle 9i form running within a browser? I have tried passing it in the URL, by itself and as 'otherparms' parameter (otherparms=parm1=xxxx), but it does not seem to work. The documentation has no mention on how to do this (at least that I have seen). I'm sure there is a simple, obvious way to do this that I have completely missed!

it work the way you say it. The problem may be because you are running Oracle9iAS on Windows2000. There is a bug in accepting parameters passed in the request URL, requiring you to apply patch 1 (see metalink for patch 2705870).
If you are on iDS then this should work. So let me knwo if this problem occurs on iDS or iAS

Pass Checkbox Parameters from HTML Form to a stored procedure

I'm still looking for a solution to my forms problem. FYI, I'm not using Applications Express to build my application--I'm using straight PL/SQL. I need to know how to pass checkbox parameters from my Web form. I'm allowing folks to select one or more checkboxes on a form that will call a delete function to delete the selected records. What I read in Oracle's "Database Application Developer's Guide - Fundamentals" isn't helpful to me. If someone would point me to some examples, maybe I could see what I'm doing wrong. Here's what was written in "Database Application Developer's Guide - Fundamentals":
All the checkboxes with the same NAME attribute make up a checkbox group. If none of the checkboxes in a group is checked, the stored procedure receives a null value for the corresponding parameter.
If one checkbox in a group is checked, the stored procedure receives a single VARCHAR2 parameter.
If more than one checkbox in a group is checked, the stored procedure receives a parameter with the PL/SQL type TABLE OF VARCHAR2. You must declare a type like this, or use a predefined one like OWA_UTIL.IDENT_ARR. To retrieve the values, use a loop:

I'm not sure I understand what your issue is.
If your web form has the following checkboxes defined all with the same name:

<input type="checkbox" name="attrib" value="3">three</input>Then you would create and register a procedure to handle the form submission that has a parameter with the name attrib of type owa_util.ident_arr e.g.:

/Now the one problem with this handler (or any form handler for that matter) is that if the user selects none of the check boxes, or no value for any of the expected parameters, the handler would be called with some parameters missing or with out any parameters passed to it, and the call will error out.
To get around that you need to provide default values for all the parameters passed to your handler including the ident_arr parameters, however with ident_arr parameters that's difficult to do with standalone procedures. If you place your procedure in a package you can define package level variables of the appropriate types that can be used as default values:

Can't pass parameter from HTML form of multipart/form-dta type to JSP

I am using request.getParameter(passed variable name) to pass data from HTML form to JSP with no problem. WHen I try to pass data from HTML form of multipart/form-dta type to JSP as following:

JSP?jsp's are not meant to read such amounts of data. this (= uploading) is a typical task for a specialized servlet. there you have full control over input and output. if you need to, you can still forward to a jsp after processing in the servlet.
How can I pass data from JavaScript to JSP???? i'm not sure what exactly you mean. normally you put it into an url and submit it.

Vamsi, Are u capturing the imputs for these parameters in the form??
If u are capturing them in the form, then u need to add them to a parameter list (TEXT_PARAMETER) and while calling the report u can send it as a parameter in the RUN_PRODUCT call.
Pls check the syntax for adding parameters and calling report from form in the form builder help.

Is there a way to pass parameters from Oracle Forms to discoverer 4??
I want to call Discoverer from a Form and pass parameters to a sheet.

I don't have 10g right now, so can't test it...
Isn't it possible to just put the params you won't show to your users 'behind' other objects on the param form?
Strange behaviour anyway, in 6i Reports does not seem to care wether the params are on the form or not.

Passing parameters from portlet reports to portlet forms

Hi,
I'm tring to pass parameters between a Report displayed as a portlet in a page ( page 1) and a form displayed in other page ( page 2).
The problem is i can't do this.
I only can pass parameters from a report ( running as normal or in a portlet displayed in a page) to a form running "normal" by using application links. Can i do this between a report that show's me every employees of scott.emp table. Then when i click on each employee, it open's me another page with the portlet form of the specified employee.
I'm not sure i made myself clear. Please send me some feedback.

Live view doesn't correctly pass URL parameters from HTML docs?

Running into something that I wonder if anyone else has seen. I've created a site in DW CS5 with a local testing server (XAMPP on Win7), and if I use LiveView to view an HTML page that has a link to a PHP page that includes a URL parameter, the parameter shows up in the LiveView address bar, but the page doesn't seem to use it (trying to display an image where the file is built using $_GET to retrieve the parameter). The same HTML page, displayed in a browser, works. And if I then save the HTML page as a PHP page in DW, identical code, LiveView works. Sure looks like LiveView will does not properly handle URL parameters from HTML documents...

Sorry if I wasn't clear... the navigation works correctly; I get to the page I'm tyring to get to. One of the things that page should do is display an image, the I use a URL parameter to build the image file name to retrieve. The link in the first page is something like <a href="gallery.php?pg=1">. Works fine if the first page (the one I'm navigating from) is a PHP page, doesn't work (with the same code which is only HTML) if the page is an HTML page.
