I have seen people using Rosetta in almost all projects in previous years, frequently in couple of projects. I was not aware that Rosetta is an internal thing, anyways if that is the case y oracle is shipping rosetta jar file to customers?

    In general Oracle offers 2 different products to connect from an Oracle database to a MS SQL Server. The first product is for free and it is called
    As DG4ODBC is a generic connectivity based on ODBC it allows you to connect to many foreign databases as long as you have a suitable ODBC driver.It for example allows you to read from text files but also connect to foreign databases like MS SQL Server or IBM DB2. Due to this wide variety of foreign data sources tha capabilities of DG4ODBC are very limited. It only supports a few Oracle functions that it can directly map to foreign database equivalents. All other functions will be post processed. Post processing means that ALL records from the foreign table(s) will be fetched into the Oracle database and the result is then processed locally - so depending on the amount of data stored in the foreign database it might take a while.
    To be complete here some notes to follow up:
    This Oracle support note describes possible options you have to connect to a foreign database:
    Document 233876.1 Options for Connecting to Foreign Data Stores and Non-Oracle Databases - For example - DB2, SQL*Server, Sybase, Informix, Teradata, MySQL
    So you see, to connect from Oracle to MySQL you need to use the Database gateway for ODBC release 11.2 (HSODBC which was shipped with 10g was desupported in march 2008).
    The Database Gateway for ODBC 11.2 (=DG4ODBC) license is included in the Oracle database license and it allows you to connect with a suitable 3rd party ODBC driver to a foreign database.
    For your MySQL connection you only need to download and configure the MySQL ODBC driver from the MySQL web site. Once you can connect with the ODBC driver you could then download and configure DG4ODBC.

  • How do I get my numbers spreadsheet changes to automatically update idisk version to use on macbook and vice versa without manually doing it?

    I am a relatively new APPLE type of guy.
    I have a fancy new MACBOOK Pro and a fancy new IPHONE.
    I've left the Micosoft world and have decided to embrace iWork.
    Was happy to see app release of iwork for iphone - purchased it - and even though spreadsheets on a tiny phone are a bit tough to get used to - i've decided to keep track of my gym work outs on the phone.
    So I set up a work-out spreadsheet on my mac - threw it it idisk - and sucked it into numbers on the phone.
    So far so good.
    Can't seem to figure out though how to have my iphone and mac syncing with any changes to the spreadsheet i make at either end.  I have a copy on idisk - and when i save a change on the macbook the change is made to the idisk file - cool - but i can't figure out how when i'm at the gym entering new data - to have that info automatically updating the idisk version.
    any ideas?
    or am I just a dumb jock thinking that all of this is actually possible with out me continually bringing in new versions of the spreadsheet from idisk into the numbers version on the iphone?

I wrote a stand-alone java application which used Oracle JDBC thin driver(classes12.zip) to make a connection to my db instance, do some select statements, and close the connection. There were no trace files generated in the folder specified by udump_dest variable. However, if I used sqlplus or dba studio, I saw trace files generated. Has anyone got Oracle sql trace work for JDBC calls from java apps.

    Actually there are 5 connection intialized but no connection is there in active pool.Sometimes when I
    go to weblogic console and refresh the connection comes alive temporarily.Can anyone help me out for

    Which version of oracle thin driver are you using? Oracle 920 thin driver has some issues.

  • Workaround for using Oracle JDBC extension with WLS pooling

    Reading the newsgroup I saw that many of us encountered the problems
    with ClassCastException when tried to use Oracle JDBC extension
    with WLS pooling. I also had.
    In this case BEA recommends to use dangerous
    method getVendorConnection() which exposes
    the physical connection object to your code.
    Yes it's really dangerous because of unsafe usage may breaks
    WLS pooled connection(s).
    Moreover, this practice will make your JDBC code
    unportable (your JDBC code in addition to Oracle dependence
    became Weblogic dependent):

  • Escape characters using Oracle JDBC

    We use Oracle JDBC driver to do some operations on an Oracle 9i database, and ran into some problems with escape characters. Basically we'd like to escape the _ and % characters.
    The following two example statements both work:
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("select * from identifier_protein where upper(IDENTIFIER_ACCNO) like 'NM\\_%' escape '\\' ");
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("select * from identifier_protein where upper(IDENTIFIER_ACCNO) like 'NM\\_%' {escape '\\' }");
    However, when we have multiple query terms and the "escape" clause doesn't immediately follows EACH "like" clause, we got errors saying the sql statement does not end properly. One such example is the following:
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("select * from identifier_protein where upper(IDENTIFIER_ACCNO) like 'NM\\_%' and creator = 'ABC' {escape '\\'} ");
    If we put an "escape" clause following each "like" clause, then it works.
    My question is, is there a smart way of letting JDBC knows that you want to use an escape character everywhere in the query? We often do very complicated dynamic queries, frequently with table joins and boolean logic and subqueries with tons of query terms. Trying to add the escape clause to each "like" clause is very painful. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks!

    I'd use PreparedStatements, if you're not already. Let the JDBC driver escape things properly for you. That's what the setString() and setDate() methods are all about.

  • Data transfer between SAP & Java and Vice versa using IDOC Process

    Dear Experts,
            We are working on one of the good requirement related to data transfer between SAP and Java software. Client requirement is, they want to transfer the data in both the ways (from SAP --> Java and Vice versa also).
    In detail is, after sales order creation using one custom program loading plan details will be calculated. Once loading dates are confirmed then, user will release the sales document to transfer the data from SAP to Java using "Outbound IDOC processing". Similarly in that JAVA software some shipment details will be performed, once completed from JAVA software again details needs to be pumped back to SAP as "Inbound IDOC Processing".
    For this fields are already identified from external software SAP and we are looking for the same to perform the steps in SAP.
    At this stage, I need your expert opinion  / feedback how to go  about at this stage.
    Meaning,  
                     1. What are the customizing steps needs to be done in SAP..?
                     2. How to trigger the :Outbound IDOC process" once the documents are "Released" from custom transaction
                     3. How to create the link between SAP and JAVA to transfer the data between these 2 software
                     4. How to trigger the "Inbound IDOC Process" from JAVA software to SAP and how to store the data in SAP
    Experts, please give your feedback in terms of reply or by sending the step by step process to fulfill this client requirement.

    i am using oracle 8i and developer 6i. i have created a button(when_button_pressed) on d2k with this command mentioned below. it is working only for user objects but i need to export database. how can i do this?

  • Connecting to OAS using Oracle JDBC Thin

    Hi,
    When I test connect to OAS residing on another host, using ORACLE JDBC THIN Driver and Named host method, I get the following error message :
    "Got back minus one from a read call"
    Any clues why such a message would come?

    If you are using the thin driver, sqlnet.ora does not come into play. None of Oracle networking does. That is one of the great things about using the thin driver, no need to have the client installed.
    That error is due to incorrect connection info you are supplying or the machine you are connection from can't ping the machine it is trying to connect to.

  • Move all data from one database to other using oracle expdp and impdp tool

    I need to move all of the data from one database to another. For that I am using oracle expdp and impdp tool.
    I have the full database export dump file. I moved that dump file to my other database.
    Now when I try to use impdp tools it gives lots of error regarding path mismatch,user not exists, role not exists.
    As my datafile path of source database does not match with the target database path , also the users are not there in target database. I dont want to create all the tablespaces that in my source database as there are 82 tablespaces.Is there any way by which I can move my all data without using remap option for tablespaces or users and grants.

    The FULL parameter indicates that a complete database export is required. The following is an example of the full database export and import syntax.
    The user must have the privielge of EXP_FULL_DATABASE
    expdp system/password@db10g full=Y directory=TEST_DIR dumpfile=DB10G.dmp logfile=expdpDB10G.log

    I'm not sure if this is the correct topic, but we are having problems accessing our Japanese data stored in UTF-8 in our Oracle database using the JDBC thin driver. The data is submitted and extracted correctly using ODBC drivers, but inspection of the same data retrieved from the GetString() call using the JDBC thin driver shows frequent occurrences of bytes like "FF", which are not expected in either UTF8 or UCS2. My understanding is that accessing UTF8 in Java should involve NO NLS translation, since we are simply going from one Unicode encoding to another.
    We are using Oracle version 8.0.4.
    Can you tell me what we are doing wrong?

  • Help needed XML to Internal table and vice versa

    Hello frnds, I need to convert Internal table to XML and Vice versa.
    Now I am able to most of the part except for this...
    the xml which I have to generate looks something like this...
    - <trade_dt>
    - <![CDATA[ 20111108000000:20111108235959
      ]]>
      </trade_dt>
    its a range I think
    And then the reponse which I get back the XML is like
    - <lockinfo>
    - <![CDATA[
    TRD_HEADER     1045     1          2
    ACT_CASHFLOW     1042               1
    TRD_TERM     1045               2
      ]]>
      </lockinfo>
    Is there any provision in class cl_ixml or class if_ixml_element to handle this part.....

    Hello Amit,
    I would suggest you, to use the XSL-Transformations, which can be inbound used in ABAP.
    For example:
    DATA:
      l_xml       TYPE string,
      lt_flights  TYPE TABLE OF SFLIGHT.
    SELECT * FROM SFLIGHT INTO TABLE LT_FLIGHT.
    CALL TRANSFORMATION id
      SOURCE DATA = lt_flights
      RESULT XML l_xml.
    Now, you have a XML-String which is in the ABAP-XML Notation, which means, that ABAP can move this XML-Data back into an internal table/structure.
    For the backward, you have to use the following statement:
    CALL TRANSFORMATION id
      SOURCE XML l_xml
      RESULT DATA = lt_flights.
    As you will see, it is very easy. The Transformation "id" is just one example and build in. When you have to transform the data, or do not want to have the ASX-Notation in it, you should at least define your own transformations with the transaction XSLT_TOOL and use it similar to the transformation "id".

    Use the methods GET_TEXT_AS_R3TABLE / SET_TEXT_AS_R3TABLE and then you will have to use the SAVE_TEXT to store in the database.
    The GET_TEXT_AS_R3TABLE method will give you back a internal in which text, in which text on the screen is existing. Similarly once you fetch the data from database using READ_TEXT, use the method SET_TEXT_AS_R3TABLE to put the text on the screen.
    These methods belong to class CL_GUI_TEXTEDIT class.

    I also think separate accounts is the way to go....if he is over 13yrs also remember if you do make an account for him and use your bank card all purchases will be charged to your card.
