Password protecting certain documents

I have several documents I would like to password protect individually. Is this possible and if so, how?

MS Office has it's own password protection built in.
You set it through the Options button in the Save As dialog (v.X)
It may be a different place if you are using a different version of Office, but you should be able to find it by looking in the Help.
Other than that, I would second the suggestion to use a secure Disk Image.
Open up /Applications/Utilities/DiskUtility
In the help search for the page titled 'Protecting confidential documents in a secure disk image'

I cannot open password protected PDF document having attachments on my OS X (v 10.8.4) with Adobe Reader X nor XI. The reader crashes. The same document using the same password opens fine on the laptop and Windows systems wheni it is fetched from a secure mail server. Why?

Is there a way to password protect a document in the app Pages?

I'm using iOS 7.1 on my iPad - and yes, you can click the little spanner (wrench) icon when you're in the document you want to protect, and there's an option "set password" towards the bottom of the menu.

  • Is there a way to password protect certain apps from being used? Example I don't want my child to access my apps while he's using his on the iPad

Is there a way to password protect certain apps from being used? Example I don't want my child to access my apps while he's using his on the iPad. I don't want to lock him out of the iPad. Let him use Angry birds, but not Sims or Games not appropriate for him that I play.

Sorry, but it is not possible to restrict use of specific apps other that the few restrictions provided in the Restrictions settings, not unless the app itself provides some sort of lock. If you don't want your child playing certain games, the only answer is to not load them on the iPad he uses.

  • Is there a way to password protect iCloud documents?

Is There a way to password protect iCloud documents on my Mac and on iPad?

Roger not so fast. Check this out: I own a studio with about 8 staff ranging from accounts, editors, creative directors and client services. Sometimes, there's even an intern or an outside contractor present for a period of time. So far we use pages and numbers to handle all the scripts, schedules, shot lists, etc and I'd like to also store some of the admin contents (again, files generated in pages, begging for iCloud), proposals, budgets... They should at the very least, let you password protect a folder.
It's so surprising that Apple doesn't simply extend their now FANTASTIC App/iCloud/Device integration ever so slightly in the direction of the SMALL PRODUCTION HOUSE. I have thouroughly investigated everything from Studiometry to Rule to Evernote. Bloat. Bloat. And more bloat!
Apple while you're at it, offer domain name resolution so we can actually use the email service. Right now half my setup is tangled up with google apps and gmail. I shudder at the thought.
Ps I'd have separate apple accounts for each employee but nothing beats the single integration of iCal and contacts etc.

  • Password protected PDF document not opened with E7...

    Dear all,
Password protected PDF document not opened with nokia E7-00. Previously I used nokia N79, that time I was able to open Password protected PDF file such as bank email statement etc. Now I can't.
It is quite disappointing with this phone !

    hi mateys,
you may want to search under "PDF" in the Nokia Store, as some solutions such as Picsel Smart Office exist, where they do open password-protected PDF's.

  • Password protecting a document

How can I password protect a document in Pages so that only I can access it when I provide my password? Thanks!

    p,
In iWork 09, we can apply a password in the Document Inspector, Document Tab. In iWork 08, we use Disk Utility.app to create a secure folder to save our work in. So, the file itself isn't protected, but access to the folder it is stored in is very secure.
To make a secure folder, start Disk Utility and click on New Image on the Tool Bar. Name the folder, select a Volume Size that's larger than you might ever need, leave the Volume Format on the default, set the Encryption to the lower number of bits (recommended), Single Partition, Image Format > Sparse Disk Image.
Don't forget your password because the encryption is such that you'll never crack it and your work will be lost with the password. If you use a secure User Account password to access your account on the computer, you can have Keychain remember your disk image password for convenience. If you carry your work around on a flash drive, you won't have to worry about anyone reading it if you lose the drive.

  • Password protecting scanned documents

I can password protect pdf files, but when I scan a document, it won't allow me to password protect it. When I do "Save as" it doesn't give me security options. When I "print as pdf" it will give me security options but once I put in the password and try to save it, it says it doesn't save in print mode. I think my scanner may be scanning into Adobe Reader? What do I need to do to password protect these documents?

Not impossible at all because it already had the password!
The point is that some apps can set a password. We can't look inside your computer and tell you what apps you have, and which ones you were using to make particular PDF files.
There are two different ways to have a password on a PDF.
    1. At the time it is made. Some apps offer this choice. Adobe Reader does not make new PDF files, only reads ones you made before so this does not apply.
    2. Later. Adobe Reader can read the file BUT NOT SET A PASSWORD. The Adobe Mac app that does this is called "Adobe Acrobat Pro XI".

  • How to password protect a document ?

Hello i want to put all my bank details in a pages document,so i will need to password protect it and i do not know how to,any suggestions please?
    Thank you.

    Hi!
Here is a link refering to the Help menu. _http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9679992_
In the Help menu you can also download the Pages User Guide. At the bottom of page 35, English version, you can read about password-protecting your document.
I find the Pages User Guide very helpful.

  • Password protecting certain pages?

    Hi —
Does anyone know if it's possible to password protect all pages bar your homepage? I'd like to be able to do this whilst I'm trying to update my site but still wanted visitors to be able to access my home page.
    Thanks all.

You can password protect certain pages only with iTweak.
As stated by Wyodor , you also need to take a look at your host.
The most common way is to protect by .htaccess if supported by your host
Take a look at the tutorial of iTweak for password protect.
    Good luck

  • HT3819 Can you password protect certain items to NOT share?

Are you able to password protect certain items in the home sharing  part of iTunes.
For example -  if there are age restricted movies that you would like to view on other apple TV's but only accessable with a Password.

No way I know of. The only way I'm aware of to protect content is to either set age limits in the parental controls or purchase such content via a different iTunes Store account and not set that account up for home sharing.
    Regards.

  • Password protected Numbers document

    Hi,
I created a password protected Numbers document, off course I have forgotten the password to it.
Is there any way to recover the contents of this document? (3rd party app?)
I've read that Numbers doesn't encrypte the files so I'm guessing there must be a way.
    Regards
    Andries

Who said that Numbers doesn't encrypt the file?
Some of us wrote that we don't know the level of protection offered by the encryption scheme, no less, no more.
If I compare the Index.xml.gzip of a normally saved document and he one available in a protected one, the contents are completely differents (even the size changes).
If you buy a security lock for your house's door, I assume that you will take care of it.
It's the same with the keyword sed to encrypt a document.
Numbers is fair enough to give you the indice which you where urged to enter when you defined the password.
It you can't remember te code with this indice, it woul de useful to forger not only the passwords but also, the protection feature.

  • How do I password protect a document in Pages Ver. 4.1

I need to change from MSWord to Pages in order to use the iCloud and can't seem to figure out how to password protect documents.  The previous, older discussion it a bit to combersome -- certainly this issue must have been addressed with the newer versions.  Any help will be greatly apprecitated.  Larry

This may not be a real solution but it works for what I am using it for, accessing a long list of things, that I dont plan on editing: This does not work if yo are opening the document on your iPhone and plan on editing it.
    So
I have mountain lion and Pages 4.2.
If I go to my Pages app on my iPhone, the document is there.
If you have used a password already to open it on your iPhone, it wont ask again (the problem) so you may need to delete it from iCloud (make sure you have a downloaded copy first), and then re-upload it to iCloud.
Then when you go to open it, it gives me a window
    Open Document
This document may look different on your iOS device than on your Mac. Use open copy to preserve the original.
tap on the option "Open Copy"
Doing that calls for a password
    you can read the document
close it, delete it (done as though you were deleting an app, touch on it for a few seconds, it starts wiggling, then hit the trash button)
that lets you access a copy  the document, and keeps the original password protected.
really lame I know but works for what I am using it for.
    kind of
    roger
