Paste date in strings in format of mm/dd/yy to Numbers

I have trouble to paste a list of dates in the format of mm/dd/yy into numbers. For example:
04/01/10
04/23/10
After pasting into Numbers, I got:
2004-01-10
04/23/10
How can I paste a list fo date strings in the format as they are?

Check your system's date_time setting .
I guess that it is :
yyyy/mm/dd
On my French system, it is dd/mm/yyyy
so, when I paste your values a I get :
4 janv. 2010
04/23/10
the 1st one is deciphered reversing the day and the month.
The 2nd remain a string because there is no month #23.

    The syntax of the representation of a date/time of day value as character sequence is false. .SQLSTATE=22007

    I'm pretty sure it won't understand what date.toString() returns. If you know what format the database understands, you do it like this:
    SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("dd-MMM-yy"); // e.g. 18-Apr-02
    String datestring = sdf.parse(date);
    and use that instead of date in your sql string. Some databases understands it if you do
    "to_date('18-Apr-02')"
    so you could include that in your sql string as well..
    You could also try to make it a java.sql.Date and hope your jdbc driver knows how to convert it to a string that the database understands if you don't know the format:
    con = getConnection();
    PreparedStatement ps = con.prepareStatement("select date1 from table1 where date1 <= ?");
    ps.setDate(new java.sql.Date(date.getTime()));
    ResultSet rs = s.executeQuery(sql);

  • How to convert BLOB data into string format.

    Hi,
    I have problem while converting blob data into string format.
    for example,

    will get me the first 4000 byte of BLOB .
    When i using SQL as i did above,the max length is 4000, but i can get 32K using plsql as below:

    loop
    my_var:=dbms_lob.substr(x.X,32767,1)

  • Convert the date of string to datetime format 'MM/dd/yyyy' when the system date format is 'dd/MM/yyyy'.

    I need convert the date of string format 'MM/dd/yyyy' to datetime format 'MM/dd/yyyy' when the system date format is 'dd/MM/yyyy'.Since
    I need to search values based on date where my database datetime  is 'MM/dd/yyyy' format.

    In my opinion you should re-consider the assumption that the date picker returns a string. Maybe it is able to return a
    DateTime object directly instead of string. Then you will pass this value as a parameter of SQL query. This should work regardless of computer configuration.
    Otherwise, follow the previous string-based approaches.

  • Week returned by Format Date/time String

    Has anyone tested the Format Date/Time String function with the week formating codes?
    I want to create a subfolder for each week and name the folder accordingly. For 17 December 2003 the week is 51 in the year 03 but I get week 50. For 29 December 2003 the week is 01 in the year 04 but I get week 52. For 01 January 2004 the week is 01 in the year 04 but I get week 00. For 29 December 2004 the week is 53 in the year 04 but I get week 52. For 01 January 2005 the week is 53 in the year 04 but I get week 00. There is no difference using %U or %W as code (this will be if 1 January will fall on Sunday or Monday which it does not in my examples).
    I know normally a year has weeks 1 to 52 but in some years the last week may have week
    53 as in 2004. Adding 1 to the week does not solve the problem. For 29 December 2003 it would give 53. And 53 maybe a correct week as in 2004. For 1 January 2005 it would give 1 but the week is the week in the year before.
    All the week numbering I expect is correct for Germany but the function is not. Is the numbering from the function correct for your country?
    Please reply where you are located and if the function will work right for you.

    I have found two resources about date and time and their formats.
    One is the ISO Standard 8601, the second is a german page. On this page along with other information all definitions used by Windows is listed.
    According to this page the ISO Standard has been established in Europe and most industrial countries. In USA it is ANSI X3.30-1985(R1991) and NIST FIPS 4-1.
    Since the ANSI definition you mentioned allows only Sunday (Jewish) or Monday (Christian) as first day of the week it ignores the Islamic world. For them the first day is Saturday. I could not gather information about Buddhistic or Hinduism
    based countries.
    For my application and the market aimed the ISO format is the one which will be choosen. Using %W and handling of week 0 should do it.

  • How do you keep cells in a certain format when pasting data into them?

    Greetings all-
    My first time to use the forum!
    I am trying to paste data I have copied from a website into Numbers. One of the fields is text that reads like a fraction: "15/003" is an example.
    Even if I have formatted the column to be "text", when I paste the data into the spreadsheet, the affected cells in the column reformat to be "Automatic" and so I get dates and other converted numbers. In the case of "15/003", it converts to "5". I don't want that. In the case of "12/003", it turns it into a date: "2011.12.03". I don't want that either!
    If I THEN go to reset the column to "text", the original text is lost and I cannot reconvert the numbers back to their original format.
    In Excel, the cell remains formatted.
    I am fluent in Excel and new to Numbers.
    I like the power of the conditional formatting in Numbers and would like to use it. If I cannot import the data without Numbers deciding what is best for me, then I'll have to stick with Excel.
    But I'm sure there's a trick to it somehow.
    What do I need to do to keep my intended formatting?
    Cheers!

    Salut, Yvan....
    Thank you for the offer.... unfortunately, it's in an 'employees' only folder' and hence I can't get it to you in the raw form.
    However, I'll give you the scenario and then an example....
    I am a transit operator- I drive for the public transport company. It is time for us to bid on our upcoming shifts and I have used Excel in the past to weed out all the work that I definitely don't want and highlight the stuff worth considering.
    One of the key pieces of information I need is the route involved. Another is the actual bus, or "run" as we call it.
    It is written like a fraction. Run/Route. Hence if it is bus or run 12 on the Route #3, it is written "12/003". Even though I have the whole column set up to be text, when I 'paste and match style', it reverts back to automatic, sees that as a basic fraction and reduces it to "4", or else recognizes it as a date and gives me 2011.12.03. In this case, "12/003", it renders a date. The inspector even allows me to choose the date format.
    So I reset the column back to "text" and nothing happens. The all important block/route information is lost.
    I've tried to cut and paste an exact example into this thread but even that doesn't work so I'm afraid what I have written here will have to do.
    This is really weird- if I simply type directly into the cell "12/003" it stays as text. It's in the pasting that it gets all screwed up.
    A little more sleuthing and I've found that all the data (over a thousand rows of data) is all HTML code- published from an Excel file using a web publisher wizzard.
    An example:
    <tr height=19 style='mso-height-source:userset;height:14.25pt'>
    <td height=19 class=xl424807 style='height:14.25pt'>1001</td>
    <td class=xl154807>SS</td>
    <td class=xl424807>001</td>
    <td class=xl154807 x:str="Mo Tu We Th Fr ">Mo Tu We Th Fr </td>
    <td class=xl424807> </td>
    <td class=xl154807>12/003</td>
    <td class=xl424807>VTCT</td>
    <td class=xl154807>4:22</td>
    <td class=xl424807>12:25</td>
    <td class=xl154807>MAR&MN-T</td>
    <td class=xl424807> 8:03 </td>
    <td class=xl154807> 8:35 </td>
    </tr>
    I just had a brainwave- Since it was first created in Excel, I pasted the data as I see it into Excel and then copied it and pasted it (Not matching style) into Numbers. Voilà! It worked!
    But it kinda defeats the purpose of getting Numbers so I don't have to use Excel, doesn't it?
    Any ideas?

  • Day of year bug - format date/time string and scan from string?

    I've noticed that the day of year returned by "Format Date/Time String.vi" starts with a value of 1 for Jan-1 while "Scan from String.vi" wants a 0 index.  Is this a bug or feature?
    (I'm using Labview 2010 Service Pack 1)

    I think the best idea is to use seconds since for your arithmetic, because it is going to be the most consistent and robust solution. Knowing that a day has 86400 seconds is all that is needed and you won't run in possible inconsistencies with date time implementations caused by our anything but logic calender. I would hazard that the functionality of converting a timestamp into year and day of year and back is impossible to make consistent without sacrificing other possibly conflicting transformation in the Timestamp into String and Timestamp from String manipulations.
    "Seconds since" being the actual base unit in all LabVIEW timestamps, it is best to do any arithmetic on it in this base unit.

    This would occur if you were using IE and the requested URL doesn't contain the filename part. The real web browsers would pick up the filename from the response header flawlessly.
    Having said that, this kind of logic doesn't belong in a JSP. Use Java classes (Servlet, Bean, DAO). Further on, JSP/Servlet related questions should be posted in the JSP/Servlet forum.

  • External table: How to load data from a fixed format UTF8 external file

    Hi Experts,

    I found the first row is incorrect. For each non-ascii character,the fields to the right of the non-ascii character are off by 1 character,meaning that the data is moved 1 character to the right.
    Then I tried to use the option STRING SIZES ARE IN CHARACTERS instead of STRING SIZES ARE IN BYTES, it doesn't work either.
    The database version is 11.1.0.6.

    Hi,
    I changed the BYTE in the create table part to CHAR, it still doesn't work. The result is the same. I think the problem is in ACCESS PARAMETERS.
    Any other suggestion?

  • How to Get Blob data(In String Form) using OCCI

    Hello frnds,
    I am new to OCCI,so i hvnt that much of master in that side.
    I have one problem while handling BLOb data.
    How to convert binary form of SDO_GEOMETRY data into string format. I am able to convert data by using PLSQL block,but its take so much time to execute.So performance is the main issue.So if there is any API in OCCI which convert directly blob data into string format.
    Thanx in advance for your support,
    Nilesh.

    Have you tried reading "http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28390/lobs.htm#BABDEGJD" ? This explains how you can read from BLOBs into a C vector (or C++ vector of chars).

  • Hey, can i clone my Macbook Pro internal hard drive and then paste it all onto a formated external hard drive, then make the Mac use the external as the primary hard drive?

    hey, can i clone my Macbook Pro internal hard drive and then paste it all onto a formated external hard drive, then make the Mac use the external as the primary hard drive? please help for i only have around 618mb left out of 189GB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    If what doesn't work?
    If cloning your internal drive to the external drive is not successful, I expect CCC will tell you so. Assuming that doesn't happen, you will have a bootable replica of the internal drive on the external drive once CCC has finished.
    You can then do any of several things:
    1. Replace your internal drive with a much larger one (320GB or 500GB, or even larger), and clone the external drive's contents onto the new drive so you'll have all your data in one place. Note that if you do this, you'll also need to buy an external drive that's large enough to back the new internal drive up on.
    2. Boot from the external drive as a temporary measure while you clear at least 30-40GB of data off the internal drive, allowing you to keep using it and saving small amounts of data to it. The external drive will then contain the only copies of the files you've deleted from the internal drive, so you'll need a seond external drive large enough to back both the other drives up on.
    If you can't comfortably clear a minimum of 30GB off the internal drive, you really need a larger internal drive right now, and you shouldn't bother fooling around with the inadequate one you have — you'll just quickly overfill it again.
    3. Replace the optical drive in your MBP with a large conventional hard drive, giving you two hard drives inside the machine. You will then need one or more external drives large enough to back up both of the internal drives.
    If you sense a theme here — back up, back up, back up — you are correct. It's flat-out foolhardy to own or use a computer without maintaining complete, up-to-date backups of everything at all times.

  • Invalid column name in query string - using Format function

    In my post just before this one the problem was solved for writing a query string using a date range. The rest of the query string includes the same date field (Call_Date) but formatted as 'MMM-YY'. I get an invalid column name error when I add this field to the query string. Here is the rest of the query string:
    strSql = "SELECT Format(CALL_DATE,'mmm-yy'), " _
    & "HOME_REGION FROM CCC2.CASE_EPRP " _
    & "WHERE (HOME_REGION = 'NCR') AND " _
    "(CALL_DATE >= to_date( '1/1/2002', 'MM/DD/YYYY' )" _
    & "AND CALL_DATE <= to_date( '2/28/2003', 'MM/DD/YYYY' ))"
    In the Access Query tool I can include this field
    Format(CALL_DATE,'mmm-yy')
    and the query runs fine (I just need to make it dynamic using ADO). But in my ADO query string above, I get the invalid column name error. Is there a way I can include
    Format(CALL_DATE,'mmm-yy')
    in my ADO query string? I appologize for not being more familiar with Oracle Sql. Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks again,
    Rich

    Thank you very much for your reply. I think I'm getting closer to the solution. Just I got an error message
    "date format not recognized"
    when I add "to_char( call_date, 'mmm-yy' )" to the query string. I tried using all uppercase, but that did not make a difference. Do I need to use to_date inside the to_char maybe?
    to_char(to_date(call_date, 'mmm/yy'), 'mmm-yy')
    Thanks again for your help.

  • How to convert Date to String

    Hi All,
    I have a dimension member in my classic plannnig application whose datatype is Date,
    Now i want to use that member inside the following function:
    @TODATE(<date format goes here> , <date string goes here>);
    e.g
    @TODATE("mm-dd-yyyy" , "Dimension Member Name");
    Now the second parameter to this function is of string type, whereas the data type of my member is "Date", so is there any way to convert this date to string?
    Notes:-
    I am using the above script inside the member formula.
    I run the code with some static value e.g.
    @TODATE("mm-dd-yyyy" , "01-12-2011"); and it works quite fine so i am pretty much sure that issue is related to incompatible data types.

    Have a look at the following post it should give you an idea - Re: @DatePart formula produces constant result
