Path in Oracle SQL

Hi,
I'm working with an Oracle 9i database using Oracle Discoverer. Discoverer lets me to make querys in the database with a look with colors and so on.
What I would like to say is if there is a SQL command that returns the path. For example, there is a SQL command that return the system date (November 22, 2004 could be a result). What I want to say is if there is a SQL command that returns the following (it's an example):
c:\Windows\System
I'm working in Windows XP Professional.
Thanks.

You did not explain what path you want to get at?
Is it the value of a environment variable that you need or is it the path to one of the executable file that you need or a path to something else?
Please provide more specific requirement as to "path to what" is requred?
If looking to read env. variable values:

  • Oracle SQL Developer - File, Open , File Name Not Accept UNC Path Form

    In Oracle SQL Developer, at least the File, Open (Dialog's), the File Name (if not all File / Directory Name) Text Box(es) is (are) not accepting, at least for me, the UNC Path Form of Folders on Network Servers. The same UNC Path (or UNC Paths in general) works in the File / Directory Name Text Box of every other Windows App I've tried (from Windows 95 to Windows 7). Is there a way to do this? If not, was it intentional and where can I suggest this as a fix / enhancement?
    I'm using Windows XP w/ SP3.

    DUH! I figured out what happened. In my first search, I searched (using "Actions", "Filter", "Column" option) for "Title Contains 'UNC'" which didn't find anything because the single-quotes were considered literals (which isn't consistent with the "Row" option or with the technical SQL syntax one would expect given technical operators like "!=", pffft, "!="??? Really???). Then, all subsequent searches returned nothing, because all previous searches are combined with implied "And" Operators until you select "Actions", "Reset" (which isn't consistent with any Web / Desktop App search feature I've ever seen). Don't get me wrong. The latter is a great feature. It just needs to be documented better.
    It probably wouldn't hurt to: a) include easily visible tips on whether single / double quotes are needed and b) show an "And" Operator in front of each previous search listed so people won't mistake it for simply a Search Criteria History vs. Current Search Criteria, oh and add a heading that labels it as, oh, IDK, "Current Search Criteria", maybe? IDK, call me crazy (or just another stupid user posing as a developer with 16 years experience ;).

    Currently, the Oracle SQL Developer 2.1 EA1 and 1.5.5 are not working on MacOS X Snow Leopard. Is there a plan to support the actual version of OS X?

    You have started this annoying discussion.
    I don't have any problems with my OS instead of you.
    I have already told you what to do, if you have no idea how to do that just go and buy yourself another support subscription from your mac support.
    The missing class is not available from any code-source or loader in the system. check that.
    what version of JAVA do you have in your fancy OS? most of the time upgrade java to the latest version will fix the issues.
    Update java from sun website not from another mac tore.

  • Oracle SQL*PLUS has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry

    I have installed oracle10g release2(10.2.0.1.0) in my system
    my porblem when i am trying to issue command
    SQL> commit;
    Commit complete.
    SQL> cl scr;
    then it is show below mentioned error
    Oracle SQL*PLUS has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
    Please can anybody help for me.
    with regards,
    srinivas.

    When working with mixed environments you should make sure the path environment variable is consistent with the executables you are currently running, and try not to mix them, i.e. if you are working with the sqlplus from 9i, make sure you execute the sqlplus.exe file from the 9i oracle home and temporarily by means of a batch file put your Oracle Home 9i executables prior to those of 10g , and the other way around, when executing from the 10g make sure all executables and paths are consistent. It should be easier since when installing oracle, oracle configures the PATH environment variable so it can be seen first in the path environment variable.
    In your case you are using two compatible versions, but if the dll's get mixed there could be unexpected results.

  • Oracle SQL Developer 3.0: PL/SQL debugging of anonymous blocks: ISSUES

    Hello,
    I just downloaded the Oracle SQL Developer 3.0. I have been using the EA releases as they came into existence and was happy to see the released version. So I immediately tried to debug an anonymous block (something I did not try to do in the EA releases), and nothing happened.
    The "Debug" was grayed out and the key-chord "ctrl-shift-F10" did nothing. I found this forum:
    Re: 30EA1: anonymous block debugging?
    and followed Vadim Tropashko's advice. This did nothing for my anon. block but worked fine for the simple example.
    So I started to whittle my anon. block down to find the culprit, here is a repeatable breaking point for me:
    declare
        stmt1 long;
        stmt2 long;
        stmt3 long;
        stmt4 long;
        p_data varchar2( 500 );
        i      varchar2( 10 );
    BEGIN
        STMT1 := 1;
        STMT2 := 1;
        STMT3 := 1;
        STMT4 := 1;
        --the moment this is in the block "Debug" is no longer an option
         select
            SendDocumentResult
           into
            p_data
           from
            XMLTABLE( '/data'
                    PASSING
                    xmltype.createxml( '<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><data><SendDocumentResult>test</SendDocumentResult></data>' )
                    COLUMNS SendDocumentResult varchar2( 1000 ) PATH 'SendDocumentResult' ) ;
    end;The moment I have the SELECT INTO ... XMLTABLE() it fails (a normal SELECT INTO works just fine).
    Is this a problem with my environment or is a problem with SQL Developer 3.0.04. Looking over K's comments, it seems the debug worked for 'simple' blocks, so I wonder if this is just out-of-scope...
    My environment:
    Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
    PL/SQL Release 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
    CORE     11.2.0.1.0     Production
    TNS for IBM/AIX RISC System/6000: Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
    and Oracle SQL Developer
    3.0.04 (Buld Main 04.34 with bundled Java) on a Window's XP box.

    Thanks, I'll survive. Just my luck, the first item I try to anon. debug didn't work! :)
    thanks, hopefully this problem will be few and far between

    Is this a problem in our oc4j with toplink and datasource configuration or perhaps a real BUG ?

  • Oracle SQL*Net and TNS Protocol

    I need to get technical documents on Oracle SQL*Net and TNS Proticol, down to the bit-level definition. I have talked to serveral people in Oracle Documentation, Sales and Tech Support, but no one could give me any clue so far. Any one can help me on this?

    SQL*Net is installed by default with SQL*Plus and any of the clients (OEM uses the JDBC OCI driver and some native connectivity).
    It is likely that the version of the client you have installed is not one that TOAD can work with or it can't find the client (is the Oracle home/bin directory in the path?)

  • Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler start up error

    Hi All,
    I just downloaded Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler (2.0.0.57.0) [Released 1 July 2009] by selecting the option "Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler for Windows (This zip file includes the JRE)"
    After I installed the same and tried to run it by clicking datamodeler.exe, I get the following error message
    "unable to create an instance of the Java virtual machine located at path:..\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll"
    On the same machine I can successfuly run the Oracle SQL Develper with no errors. My machine is having Windows XP Professional SP3.
    Any ideas? If there was a problem with Java, than the Oracle SQL Developer should also not run. But as stated it runs with out any error but the Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler gives the above error.
    Regards,
    JAA149

    1 - The above problem has nothing to do with the memmory. I tried on a 400 MB RAM, 900 MB RAM, 1.5 MB RAM & 2 MB RAM with the same arror.
    "unable to create an instance of the Java virtual machine located at path:..\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll"
    http://i30.tinypic.com/9vkwf6.jpg
    2 - There are two "datamodeler.exe: files
    One is at D:\datamodeler\datamodeler.exe
    2nd is at D:\datamodeler\bin\datamodeler.exe
    The same error occurs with both the files.
    3 - The Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler version is "Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler (2.0.0.57.0) [Released 1 July 2009]" and the file I downloaded is "Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler for Windows (This zip file includes the JRE) - (57M)"
    If I look in "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\README.txt" I find
    "Java(TM) Platform, Standard Edition Runtime Environment Version 6"
    If I run "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\javacpl.exe" I get
    http://i30.tinypic.com/mt8ocn.jpg
    If I run "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\jureg.exe" I get
    http://i28.tinypic.com/30boiyo.jpg
    If i check at the control panle add/remove program
    http://i30.tinypic.com/1428tba.jpg
    If I go to "http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp" and download "jre-6u16-windows-i586-s.exe" and run it.
    If I go to "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6" I find the same files as in "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre"
    I am able to run Oracle SQL Developer with out any kind of error let alone the above one. But with Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler I get the above mentioned error no matter what I try.
    As the error states "unable to create an instance of the Java virtual machine located at path:..\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll". The file "jvm.dll" is located at two places. One at "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll" and the second at "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll"
    A similiar problem occurs with JDeveloper with the fllowing solution
    http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=506339&start=0&tstart=0
    Which states the following
    "hello!
    in the problem with JDeveloper i have a solution. The jdk have a file jvm.dll in the path: jdk/jre/bin/client/jvm.dll this is the problem ... now in the path:jdk/jre/bin/client/ojvm has a file with the same name if you copy and paste this file to the another path, now its works fine your Jdeveloper.
    Jdeveloper use two files to jvm.dll to work one in the folder /client and other in /server copy the same file to the two locations for precaution
    for me work fine thanks..."
    I tried to do the same (Copy from client folder to server folder)
    D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll
    COPIED THIS FILE TO
    D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll
    Nada. So I reversed it (copied from server folder to client folder)
    D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll
    COPIED THIS FILE TO
    D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll
    Does not work. So I tried another solution stated at the same forum entry
    "Well,
    i solved the problem by this way :
    <SQLDEVELOPER>/jdev/bin/ide.conf
    In this file, change this line :
    AddVMOption -Xmx512M
    by
    AddVMOption -Xmx256M
    Now, the executable is lauching correctly. No more errors with Java Virtual Machine.
    But is it a good thing to solve it like that ?"
    But the ide.conf file is only at "D:\sqldeveloper\ide\bin\ide.conf" which is for the SQL Developer and not the SQl Developer Data Modeler
    Correct me if I am wrong but
    JRE = Java Run Time Envoirment
    JDK = Java Development Kit
    And Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler needs JRE and not JDK. In any case I download JDK
    jdk-6u14-javafx-1_2-windows-i586.exe (121,306 KB) and installed it but no succcess.
    I tried every thing except completely re-install my whole PC.
    Any help will be much appreciated.
    Cordially,
    Jawad

  • Oracle sql developer downlaod problem

    hi
    i put my oracle sql in C drive,but when i open it ,it gives me error like :"unable to find main class.Class specified is :oracle/ide/boot/Launcher
    can anybody has solution
    thanks a lot in advance

    I have the same issue...
    I've just downloaded
    Oracle SQL Developer 2.1 Patch 1 (2.1.1.64.45) Oracle SQL Developer for 32-bit Windows (This zip file includes the JDK1.6._11)
    I extract it straight to the c:\ drive making sure I select "Keep folder structure", double click the sqldeveloper.exe executable and I get
    "unable to find main class.Class specified is :oracle/ide/boot/Launcher"
    I noticed I have a directory and an entry in my environment path of :-
    C:\jdk\bin
    which holds a JDK v5.0 in it (don't know why it's there, I didn't build the machine).
    Could this be a reason for my issues?
    Gus..

    Oracle SQL Developer 1.2.0 is working correctly at Argonne National Lab with Oracle 10g Client Version 10.2.1 and Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.1.0.5.0 - 64bit. The correct UNC and java class path is:
    \\Canary\DISTAPPS$\ORACLE\V10\Ora10g\jdbc\lib.

  • What is the validity of Oracle SQL 1ZO-007 certification?

    Hi,
    I have done Oracle SQL 1ZO-007 certification in May 2006. However, I could not write the next level, PL/SQL 1ZO-047. Now I am planning to write it.
    My doubt is whether my SQL certification is till valid so that upon clearing 1ZO-047 I can get OCA.
    Also, is there an alternate way of getting developer's path OCA.
    Please clarify.
    Thanks,
    Natraj

    Don't worry. Its valid for ever
    And please post your Certification related questions in Certification topic. May be there you can find more information

    [root@localhost tmp]# sqldeveloper
    Oracle SQL Developer
    Copyright (c) 2008, Oracle. All rights reserved.
    Type the full pathname of a J2SE installation (or Ctrl-C to quit), the path will be stored in ~/.sqldeveloper/jdk

    Error: /opt/oracle/softwares/jdk1.5.0.19/bin/java not found
    As you can see i did install java but still i keep getting that error
    Thank you

    From what you have shown us, we can't tell that you have installed java. What do you get from the following command?
    /opt/oracle/softwares/jdk1.5.0.19/bin/java -versiontheFurryOne

  • Loader constraints (oracle/sql/converter/CharacterConverters)

    I'm trying to get OC4J standalone to work with instant client of JDBC in order to use OCI. I can run the java code stand-alone on the Oracle home I've installed the OC4J in, but when I try to run the application through OC4J I get the following error - indicating a setup problem?

    I've searched but really found nothing indicating problems with this class. Is this an NLS problem?

    Well - I don't have to look for that setting - I know it's set to excatly that - because I did that ;)
    I cannot use the JDBC built into OC4J. First, it's using CLASSES12DMS - secondly I use XDB. Even if it was using OJDBC14 it most likely would not be "binary compatible" with the XDB from the 10g RDBMS. I've had this problem on the AS 10g of OC4J and I did try it on this one too. XDB crashes out with basically the same error -just different library.
    My issue is integration into OC4J. This application works outside OC4J (the method that fails work). By simply setting CLASSPATH to the OJDBC14 from the instant client, LD_LIBRARY_PATH to the *.so files from the same instant client, plus XDB from the 10g home, and XMLPARSEV2 - the connection succeeds and data is retreived etc.
    NOW - the exact error here I think I identified. OC4J loads ORAI18N - an older version (at least different from) compared to the one that comes with instant client. I put the instant client's ORAI18N in the "pre-path" load (that setting you refer to) and I'm now at a different loader constraint for sql/oracle/OPAQUE. Trying to identify which library, if any, that OC4J is providing which shouldn't be there.
    I've read the note that explains how to install a different version of JDBC with OC4J. Problem is, that instant client doesn't come with CLASSES12DMS - and secondly I've tried to replace the DMS version with a link to OJDBC14 and it staill failed.
    In a way this particular thread got resolved last night - but I still have the same basicly problem. Getting a different JDCB version using OCI to work from within OC4J 10.1.x.

  • Best Book on ORACLE SQL for a Beginner?

    Hi friends ....I have just finished my graduation....(BE ELECTRONICS) .....I am dead serious about mastering ORACLE DATABASE......I have basic idea about ORACLE....Yesterday I just installed Oracle 10g Release 2 for VISTA...I just wanted to know which is the best book for a beginner who want to master ORACLE SQL....?????/

    its Tutor as well.....But Last word.......Which is
    "the" book for a beginner amongst all the SQL books
    suggested by my dear friends........It ALL depends on what your short, medium and long range objectives are.
    For example: do you want to be
    - an Oracle DBA expert;
    - an Oracle database programming expert;
    - a general database programming expert with a specialty in Oracle;
    - an Oracle application programming expert;
    - a general application programming expert?
    Personally I would encourage being a general database programming expert with a specialty in Oracle. This is probably the rarest of the group, the least understood, and the most needed in the industry. If you were to follow that path, I'd recommend a very very strong grounding in SQL - which 99% of all programmers I've met do NOT have - before moving forward to any procedural enhancement to SQL (such as PL/SQL, Java, TransactSQL, etc.)
    I am the first to propose Tom Kyte's books in the right situations, which usually include:
    - dealing with someone already reasonably competent in SQL and development;
    - someone who thinks that porting from SQL Server to Oracle is a snap, since they are all 'just different dialects of SQL', or;
    - someone who is seriously looking for guidelines on approaching Oracle application development and tuning.
    For a complete beginner, my list of books stands in my preferred order (one at a time), with the addition - at the end - of Tom's books.
