PB-backlight in keyboard or upper case?

Unfortunately, I didn't get too much feedback on my last post ( Florian Duenzen, "PB-keyboard / replacement part numbers", 04:40pm Sep 26, 2005 CDT), so I'll try to make it a bit easier with this one:
Is the backlight of the recent PowerBook revisions (including the last one) part of the keyboard itself or is it soldered to the upper case? I could not make it out in pbfixit.com's pictures, and my PB is still under Apple Care warranty, so I can't take it apart myself to check it.
My keyboard is broken and I have to figure out, what service part I can use to replace it. Of course, I would like to go for the brighter backlight from the latest revision, if it is indeed soldered to the keyboard and compatible with my revision (see signature).
Thanks a lot,
Florian.

Don't know if i get you exactly, but if you want to check case-insensitive, you could do:
SELECT count(*)
FROM my_database
WHERE UPPER(user_id) = UPPER(:my_database.user_id);Be aware that any index on user_id will not be used with this approach.

  • HT1338 My MacBook Pro (running Leopard 10.5.8) won't allow keyboard to type an upper case 'C' using the shift key...works fine with caps lock, or, with my Typinator workaround using double-typed lower case c (not always best). Any ideas?

    My MacBook Pro keyboard won't type an upper case 'C' using the shift key... only with caps lock. Workaround has been to use Typinator by typing a double lower case c, not always the best solution. Mac is a refurbished model, which initially was fine. Apple tech helped me correct the quirk when it first appeared, but now it has returned and refuses fixes. Any ideas?

    I'm willing to bet that this has something to do with iCloud.  I've been facing a frozen computer nearly every time I go into it.
    In Activity Monitor I have seen two programs associate with iCloud that take up about 2.5 GB of memory (I only have 4 in the computer) -- causing everything to freeze.  One of these is called "iCloud Helper" and the other one is something like "Address Book Sync helper" -- I see parts of these names in the stuff you have posted.
    I am at my wits' end with these and have written to Apple asking them to do away with these or fix them.  To get rid of the Address book sync thing I have gone into system preferences for iCloud and unchecked Contacts -- but then spontaneously it gets rechecked.  And oftentimes after I Force Quit the iCloud helper, it spontaneously turns on again.  My conclusion --- the iCloud is basically unusable.  It turns a Mac into the most useless, clogged, sluggish PC.  If this is happening to a lot of people's computers -- and I see no reason why yours or mine should be an exception -- these programs just might destroy Apple itself.
    So -- I'm about to completely give up on iCloud, and I suspect that others will too unless this gets fixed.

  • My keyboard is stuck in upper case letters any help

    My i-pods keyboard is stuck in upper case letters . Anyone had similar problem?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings (if you can)
    Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
    All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

  • Why does my MacBook start typing in upper case even though Caps lock is off?

    On occasions, when typing, my MacBook starts to type in upper case even though the Caps lock is off? This is not a physical sticking of the shift key as it happens even when using a USB keyboard? I have to use the shift key kind of in reverse to revert to lowercase entry.
    I have checked settings and I cannot find anything that could be causing it.
    Really bloody annoying!
    Can anybody help.
    I have a two week old MBP w Retina Display. This did happen on my old MBP and I did restore this new MBP from my Time Capsule disk so assume I brought the problem with me so to speak.

  • Can I make the keyboard display lower case letters?

    Sorry for possibly a totally n00bie question....I'm completely new to Apple products. I just bought my first Apple product yesterday, iPad Air (full size).
    My question is in regard to the virtual keyboard. It displays the letters in upper case, so it makes it difficult to determine between upper and lower when I press the shift key because it doesn't look any different.
    Is there a way to make the keyboard display lower case letters when in lower case mode and vica versa for upper case?

    In my opinion, this is still one the silliest oversights in design by Apple.  They can make the little switch button on flashlight icon in the control tray toggle between up and down, but they can't toggle the case of the letters to reflect the status of the Shift key?  Seriously...without actually using your phone, can you tell me which icon represents Shift being enabled?  Is it the black arrow with the white background or the white arrow with the grey background?

  • How to disable Automatic UPPER case in SQL Developer

    Hi,
    I am using SQL developer more than two years. I have recently downloaded SQL Developer 2.1.1.64.
    My problem is, while editing the package body when move to newline the previous line get converted to UPPER case automatically. But, I don't want to get all the code I have written to be converted to UPPER case.
    I have tried all possible preference changes but no change. Can you please help me how disable the case change in SQL developer.
    Looking forward your response.
    Thanks,
    Prashantha Konkodi

    You can always define how you want to format the SQL or normal text by using the keyboard CTRL+' to manage text/keyword case to all UPPERCASE, Initcap, or all lowercase.
    The system remembers your settings and will keep the text the same format in future.

  • Trying to enter hotel password and 1st letter is always upper case and password is lower case.  Can't figure out how to make 1st letter lower case

    I am trying to enter a hotel password for internet access.  The password is all lower case, but the 1st letter I type is always upper case and I can't figure out how to make it lower case.  Help?

    The digital keyboard on the iPad uses an "Up Arrow" as a symbol to represent its shift key(s). If it's highlighted, then the next letter typed will be upper-case. Just tap on the Arrow symbol and it should be unhighlighted. Now if you type any letter, it will be lower-case.

  • 1.5GHz upper case on a 1.67 GHz?

    Dear Apple Discussions,
    the upper case for my 1.67 GHz (High Res.) PowerBook G4 has some cosmetic damage. I was wondering if I could replace it with the upper case of a 1.5 GHz PowerBook G4?
    The main concern I have is in regards to the trackpad not working since I vaguely remember reading Apple changed manufacturers (which is why the third party iScroll would not work on my machine).
    Any thoughts would be appreciated

    The high-res PowerBook G4 1.67GHz utilizes a different top case according to a dealer on eBay that specializes in Mac parts. I bought something from him recently and asked him about the top cases for the PowerBooks and he says that the 1.67GHz top case has different circuitry.
    The top case for the 1.5GHz/1.67GHz (models A1106) are interchangeable. I bought one of these for my 1.5GHz that I'm typing from right now. But these can't be used on the high-res 1.67GHz (and can't be used on earlier 1.5GHz or previous models). This is the info I have:
    A1106 (1.5GHz/1.67GHz)
    Apple Part No. 922-6920, Assembly No. 620-3030
    A1138 (1.67GHz HR DLSD)
    Apple Part No. 922-6920, Assembly No. 620-3273

    Also, I found this "more reliable" info from iFixIt.com who also points out that there are two different case parts for the two machines, though the part no. is different.

    Also, just to note, the keyboards are different as well. This one I learned first-hand after buying a brand new keyboard for my 15-incher and it belonged to the high-res 1.67GHz model, to my dismay. (The seller noted the wrong part no.-- he said it was for the 1.5GHz/1.67GHz models, and when I cross referenced that part no. on Google, I found it belonged to the high-res 1.67GHz)

  • Upper case "s" does not work in most programs

    Upper case "s" does not work in a number of programs, lower case is fine. It is the only letter that is missing in both cases.
    Any ideas. Do I need to reinstall driver for keyboard? If so any idea where to get it.

    Open the Speech pane of System Preferences and check whether either the listening key or the speech key has become set to that keystroke; if so, change the setting.

  • Question about water damage to upper case

    Hey everybody.
    I recently sent in the MacBook that I got a year ago for repairs. Apple determined that there was water damage to the logic board, battery, and "top case,", which, while disappointing, was not altogether surprising since a few days earlier I had coughed a mouthful of water all over the computer.
    Anyway, I'm resigned to replacing the logic board and battery (although not through Apple - too expensive!), but I'm curious as to what, exactly, water damage to the upper case (I'm assuming that's the same as the top case) would be. The upper case is simply the plastic area with the keyboard and trackpad, correct? If it's plastic ... how can there be water damage? Or, perhaps more importantly, if I replace the battery and logic board, will the water damage to the upper case prevent me from using the MacBook? I suppose the keyboard/trackpad could be affected, but is that necessarily the case?
    I don't care if the computer looks pretty - I just want it to work. I can get the case for $50 off eBay; considering that the logic board will set me back $450, that's not THAT bad, but it's still $50 I'd rather, you know, spend on the logic board. Without which I am positive that my computer will not work.
    Anyway, thanks for any input/help, and may you be luckier in the timing of your coughs than I.

    The top case consists of the keyboard, trackpad, and power button. There is some electronic circuitry in there, which is likely what Apple was referring to as being damaged. I am not aware of such a "liquid sensor"....sounds more like a conspiracy theory to me. Liquid damage typically manifests itself as corrosion on the logic board, which is fairly easy to detect in a visual inspection. Other clues might be stains/discoloration from residue in the liquid, or perhaps the overwhelming smell of the beer.....
    As to your second question, my understanding is that you voided your warranty when you got water on your computer. I do not believe that the warranty is "restored" after a non-warranty repair, although depending on your location, local laws may dictate something different.
    The repair work specific to your current situation may be warrantied, but you should ask and find out for yourself. I don't believe you will be covered for any other potential future defects in the computer.
    This is one reason why I typically don't buy into the whole extended warranty thing - especially for portable electronics. In the vast majority of cases, it's simply a cash cow for the party selling it. And since laptops are much more prone to accidents that would result in voided warranties, I personally feel the risk of losing the money you invest in an extended warranty is too high.
    Now, if Apple offered a comprehensive replacement policy on their laptops(that covered accidents), I would most definitely consider investing in that kind of protection plan.

  • How to convert a text file in lower case to upper case?

    I've a beginner in java world and I just come through the tutorial in http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/essential/io/filestreams.html showing how to copy a text file:
    import java.io.*;
    public class Copy {
    public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException {
         File inputFile = new File("farrago.txt");
         File outputFile = new File("outagain.txt");
    FileReader in = new FileReader(inputFile);
    FileWriter out = new FileWriter(outputFile);
    int c;
    while ((c = in.read()) != -1)
    out.write(c);
    in.close();
    out.close();
    And I would like to ask how to covert all lower case letters in input file to upper case letter in output file at the same time of copying.
    I guess it'll be using Character.toUpperCase(c), but I don't know how to do it actually.
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hope this helps
    import java.io.*;
    public class Copy {
    public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException {
    File inputFile = new File("farrago.txt");
    File outputFile = new File("outagain.txt");
    FileReader in = new FileReader(inputFile);
    FileWriter out = new FileWriter(outputFile);
    BufferedReader buff = new BufferedReader(in);
    String c;
    while ((c = buff.readLine()) != null)
    out.write(c.toUpperCase());
    in.close();
    out.close();
    }

  • How to cast a fieldinput value to upper case.

    Im not a java programer I guess that this must be a silly thing.
    Im searching data in R/3 from 2 fields 1 numeric and the other alphanumeric. This alphanumeric fields if I put it in upper case works, if I wirte it in lower case doesnt works.
    In R/3 when I test the FM doesnt matter if I put it lower or upper case, it works fine.
    so I wanna know how can I in WD cast the value that I put in that fieldinput be converted to upper case when I hit the search button.

    Hi,
    When you test the FM in SE37 in R3 there is an option at the top of the screen Called Uppercase/Lowercase - this controls whether the input is automatically converted to upper case for alphanumeric fields.
    The other option you have, if it is a custom FM, is to translate the input of the alphanumeric fields in the ABAP - it is quite common to have to translate or convert input data to make sure it is in the same format as the backend system.
    I prefer to do this sort of conversion on the backend system as usually you have a better guarentee that it will be in the correct format, than if you do it in the Java element.
    Just my opinion,
    Gareth.

  • Translate to upper case a structure in ecc 6.0

    Hi,
    How to translate to upper case a structure in sys:ecc 6.0 (unicode) like it was possible in sys:4.7
    TRANSLATE s_tab TO UPPER CASE.
    now I have an error message: "s_tab shall be a character-type".
    thanks

    Hi,
    The usage of the method to convert codepages of structures is described including this code sample:
    DATA:BEGIN OF struc,
    text(5) TYPE c,
    int TYPE i,
    END OF struc.
    DATA:buffer TYPE xstring,
    conv TYPE REF TO cl_abap_conv_out_ce,
    view TYPE REF TO cl_abap_view_offlen.
    view = cl_abap_view_offlen=>create_legacy_view( struc ).
    conv = cl_abap_conv_out_ce=>create(
    encoding = '0120'
    endian = 'B' ).
    struc-text = 'Abc12'.
    struc-int = 65538.
    conv->convert_struc( EXPORTING data = struc
    view = view
    IMPORTING buffer = buffer ).

  • My itune gift card says it's not authorized.  I've tried to redeem by typing in upper case letters and lower case letters.  I've never had this problem before, what do I do so I can use this gift card?

    I bought an itunes gift card yesterday and I have tried to redeem, but when I do I get a message the card has not been authorized.  I have typed in typed in the code as seen mostly upper case and I have tried lower case also.  Neither is working.  I've never had this problem before.  Should the store where I purchased it from done something to supposedly "activate" it.  I'm at a loss.  I do not have the store reciept a friend does, and I'm sure she desposed of it.

    Yes, the retailer is supposed to activate the card. Otherwise they'd lose hundreds to shoplifting. What you normally should do is go back the retailer from whom you purchased the card and discuss the problem with them. They should either correctly activate the card or give you a new one. If they refuse to help, as some retailers do, or this was a gift so you cannot contact the retailer, go here:
    iTunes Support
    and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store.
    Regards.
