PCS3 to PCS4 Mac Newbie Question/Help

Hello. I recently bought my first Mac (a MacBook) and I'm wanting to download Photoshop CS3 Extended, but now there's the new PCS4. On my old computer which is a Dell, I had PCS3 Extended and I have the serial number. My question is if I download the trial version of PCS4 Extended on my Mac, can I still use the same serial number to activate it or will I have to buy PCS4 Extended for Mac? I'm somewhat confused, but I appreciate any help.

No, you cannot use a Windows license on a Mac.
You need a new license for your Mac.
If you are not going to keep the Windows version, you can contact Customer Support and ask for a cross-grade.  It involves a letter of destruction of the Windows version and paying a nominal fee (under $10) for the cost and shipping of the new media. Actually, since you're coming from CS3 you will be charged the Upgrade price ($200 or so).
If you want to keep on using a Windows version, then you must buy a new version for the Mac at full price.

  • Photoshop elements mac, newbie questions for webshop

    Hello all,
My name is Jelle and i have photoshop elements for mac, which i mostly use to create banners, headers and backgrounds for my website www.dagelijkseluxe.nl.
Though this is my question, i think there are a lot of people like me, bumping in the same problems. Maybe it's an idea to have a webshop webinar someday (or i missed it) for some basic functions mostly used for websites. Like easy banner creation, background adjustments for sites and products, best product presentation, etc.
Even though i mostly use the guided editing, i sometimes venture off and try to use the full editor. Now, this must be too easy for most of you powerusers, but the background of the webshop is still a bit to dark to my liking. However i feel i have reached all i can do with the different sliders presented in the guided tour.
Is there an easy way to "mistify" the background or any photo for that matter?
I also save the files as PNG as per recommendation from the sitebuilder. what's the difference with interlaced and non interlaced saving.
Thank you in advance for your time!
    Kind regards,
    Jelle Dingemans

    You could use:
Filter >> Blur >> Gaussian Blur
That should mystify or blur your image.
Interlaced is a better method for displaying mainly large images on monitors - but you get a slightly larger file. Small images tend to load very quickly so non-interlaced will keep the file size down.

  • Mac Newbie. Help! :P

So I got a MacBook Air 11' almost a month ago. The thing is that I didn't opened it, my brother did and I don't know if it let it charged for the amount of hours that it's supposed to be charged. I think the battery doesn't last much (about 2-3 hours and I think that's much) also someone told me not to turn it off because that dammages the computer so I just close it when I finish using it. So I was wondering if I turn it off and leave it charging for I don't know, you tell me how many hours, will that help with the battery life? Is it true that if I turn it off will be damaged? One more thing, my dad got a MacBook Pro so he's also wondering for how long should we leave it charginr for first time or is it just a myth? THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!

It doesn't matter if it was fully charged to begin with, just plug it in and it will charge until it's full and then the charger light will turn green indicating a full charge.  The charger will only charge when necessary indicated by the orange light.
It won't damage your Mac to turn it off, that's a myth.  I typically leave my on and just sleep it by closing the lid.  I leave it on the charger when at home and use battery on the road.  If your battery life is short then you can do things like reduce the screen brightness, turn off bluetooth if not needed etc.  Look for applications that consume lots of CPU and end them when not in active use.

  • Newbie questions, help needed, please

I am pretty new to Oracle Application Express. I have two problems when I try to create Page with type of "Report and Form". I hope you guys could help me out:
    (1) When I create Pages with the type of "Report and Form", the first column, primary key does not show up in the report page. Why?
    (2) When the table has two primary keys, I have problem when I click the button to go to form page from report page to update the record. It always show error said "Fetch returns more than one rows". How can I tell the application that I have two primary keys?
    Thanks,
    Lee

Put in "HTML Expression [Insert column value]" part of field which will be a link:
a href = f?p=&APP_ID.:&APP_PAGE_ID.:&APP_SESSION.::NO::PX_PK1,PX_PK2:'+'#PK1#'+','+'#PK2#')">Edit< /aput in previous sentence "<" in front and ">" on the end and remove blank before "/a" - otherwise you'll not see the content but real link!!!!!
    where :
<li>"&APP_ID." is the page in which you want to open and start edit</li>
<li>"PX_PK1,PX_PK2" are items on that page (probably hidden) tha will represent primary key</li>
<li>"#PK1#" and "#PK2#" are primary key values on current page (from table grid represent with query "SELECT PK1,PK2,...from MyTable"</li>
    P.S.
I read somewhere that life with Appex should be much easy when people should use PK base on one coulmn (sequence).
To ensure PK on those fields create UNIQUE index on those two fields and in table define NOT NULL on those two columns.
When you get expireienced you'll know the benefit of this advise

  • Newbie question. help vector add

    hi group
    i have this problem:
    valoresindex.add(1, val);
    for (int i=2; i<numColumns; i++) {
    valoresindex.add(i,rs.getString(i));
    System.out.println((String)valoresindex.get(i));
    the error it is:
    Error al leer archivojava.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 1 > 0
    help please.

You are trying to add an item to the '1' index, but there are no items in the Vector yet. If you want to add items to a Vector one after the other, just use add (Object o). There is no need to specify an index.
Secondly, the items in a Vector start at the '0' index, not '1'.

you cannot directly import the HTML from Dreamweaver to iWeb. secondly, iWeb does allow you to publish to a domain - but you will need a FTP program to upload them to your domain.

    I'm a new Mac user.
I'm running Snow Leopard on MacBook Pro machine.
I'm logged in under my administrator account.
When i try to save an edit i made to Apache's httpd.conf file using TextEdit.app, I get an error message simply saying that the file cannot be saved and that i do not have write permission to do so.
How does one use a text editor in Mac Os X to make such config edits and authenticate the action?

  • Mac newbie question about transferring files FROM iPod

I got an iPod 30G for xmas. I downloaded all my music from my computer to it. Then my hard drive crashed. But it doesn't seem like I can put the music back onto my new harddrive because it's some kind of "tunes" file instead of a data file. Admittedly, I don't know much about this stuff. But can someone tell me if it's possible to put the music back onto my computer from my iPod?

  • Mac Newbie  Please help: Airport Express conflict: cordless phone?

    Hello,
I apologize if there have been threads on this before, but I searched and searched to no avail. Here is my problem:
I recently purchased the new 15" MacBook Pro... LOVE IT! I also purchased an Airport Express for wireless. I have SBC Yahoo! DSL with a 2Wire modem w/built-in firewall. With Apple Care help, I have been able to connect just fine to the internet via the Airport Express. However, after my computer goes into sleep mode (overnight, for example)... when I "wake up" the computer and try to get onto the net or access my email, I cannot... usually there is a box that appears on my desktop that says someting along the lines of cannot find my connection.
As an aside, I have an old cordless 2.4 GHz phone in my apt. One Apple Care rep told me this was the problem and that I needed a 5.8 GHz phone. Another Apple Care rep told me that might help, but told me has used both 2.4 and 5.8 phones and fnids they can both have this problem so he wanted to try resetting the airport using the bridge feature hoping that would fix things. This solution failed.
I don't mind spending a few bucks on a new phone. I just want to have a reasonable expectation that this is indeed the problem. Any thoughts? Similar experiences? Also, if you have had and have solved this problem, is a 5.8 Ghz phone or the new DECT phones a better choice? I don't want to buy a phone that will work but impair my net speed. And finally, what are the chances that a microwave in an adjoining room or a neighbor’s phone could be causing this? I heard murmurings that Apple had fixed these problems with the newest Airport Express models.
    Thank you!!!

I did notice something that confused me; right after I clicked MANUAL SETUP in Airport Utility: a window that said something about ALLOW, DENY, ALWAYS ALLOW my personal information (or "confidential", I forget the exact wording and have not been able to replicate it)... after clicking DENY a few times and failing to get into MANUAL SETUP, I clicked ALWAYS ALLOW and everything seemed good to go. Any information you can give me on this, and what I did by allowing all?
This sounds like OS X's software firewall is doing its job. (ref: System Preferences > Security > Firewall). When you selected Manual Setup, this request had to go through the OS X firewall and it was asking you if this request was ok to do. When you first answered DENY, it prevented you from successfully administering the AirPort. The right response, in this case, is what you chose next and that's ALWAYS ALLOW.
Also in the manual setup/airport utility/wireless should my CHANNEL be set at AUTOMATIC?
Yes, in most cases this would be the best choice as it allows the AirPort to choose which radio channel to operate on that is clear of any other 5 GHz Wi-Fis in your area.
And should the little box that says ALLOW THIS NETWORK TO BE EXTENDED (located under the Network Name be clicked?
No. In this case, you are not extending the wireless range of your router with another AirPort base station, so leaving this unchecked would be appropriate.
Also, I let my computer go into sleep mode for a few hours while I had a dinner and a late nap and even used the new phone a few times. When it came out of sleep mode, my solid green light on the Airport Express was still there and while it took a second, I was still able to get email, connect to the net, etc.!
    That would be normal operation.

  • Mac newbie needs help!

We've had our new iMac for about a week.  Can someone please tell me how to keep message and mail from opening on start-up?
I'm generally computer saavy enough to figure out this simple problem...at least in the world of pc.  I've searched all through the System Preferences and can't seem to find, what I'm sure to find is a simple fix.

You may not "need" to; however, I prefer to do so at least 3 nights out of 7 as it fixes many glitches in its' startup sequence (such as difficulties emptying trash with the "app in use" popup) as well as save considerable natural resources.
    @rkaufmann87:
I'm a little confused: I do not like Resume and therefore have had the option checked (rather than UNcheck as you suggested) because that is one deterrent for automatically opening apps upon startup.

  • Yet Another Hard Drive Question from a Mac Newbie

I apologize in advance for the length of this post -- as I state in the subject line, I am a complete Mac newbie.
I just took delivery yesterday on a new (early 2008) Mac Pro. I purchased and installed an additional 8GB RAM, and ordered it with a 500GB HD (Seagate, it looks like) and purchased two 750GB Hitachi HDs for bays 2 and 3. I will be doing a fair amount of photo editing, and also plan to partition the OS drive to run XP using bootcamp, but also plan to use VM Fusion.
I am thinking of partitioning the boot drive with 250GB for OS X and apps, 150 GB for XP and apps, and ~66 remaining possibly to be used as scratch memory for CS3, though it sounds like this may not be enough. The bay 2 Hitachi would be used for all my user data (photos, music, docs, etc.) bay 3 would be for backup initially, possibly using Time Machine? (other recommendations welcomed). As space becomes an issue in the future, I will invest in a fourth internal HD, and at least 2TB external HDs for backup.
Does this seem like a reasonable plan? If so, how do I go about formatting the drives and installing boot camp, Fusion, etc., and in what order? Also, how best do I organize my existing files from my current Windows machine as I copy them to the new user data HD, so they can be accessed as needed by both OS X and XP?
    Thanks for your help.

I like the boot volume to never get beyond 50% used. Enough room for burning dual-layer DVDs can be 50GB for best results. And to force the system to use the first outer tracks.
I hope you are concurrently zeroing both drives. SoftRAID is my choice for driver for RAIDs and you can cancel safely at any time. There are also excellent tools for checking sectors and mapping out bad blocks.
I put Vista on its own 10K Raptor. I had it on the boot drive but I am always changing my mind, my drives and setup. Vista needs at least 40GB and that is with all my major documents and files on another drive which holds 150GB out of 450GB.
You set the preference for what drive to use as scratch in CS3 or other programs. And you want to disable Spotlight indexing on any scratch or editing partition. Scratch can be a drive, a volume, a stripped array. Any 'normal' partition though don't use the default (journaling) feature is all.
How large? I'd have to see and know how large files, work flow, and how long you work between projects. The nice thing, erase the scratch volume between projects but it is possible to use 300GB when you work on 1.5GB files and above.
One early Mac Pro owner wasn't able to work as they wanted until they had 10-12GB RAM, boot RAID0, and RAIDs for scratch and data (saving 2GB files and not having to wait forever, which even a minute can feel like forever).
Disk Utility: Partition. You can even partition 2+ drives, just make them the same, and first create 2 partitions (100GB on each?) and then stripe the first "Untitled 1" of each into 100GB x n array. Stripe or mirror the "Untitled 2" or leave those are two unique non-RAID volumes. Sounds harder than it is.
Scratch = temp space and designed to not be saved, to be erased as needed.
SoftRAID.com 3.6.6 makes it easy to create, delete, erase volumes and arrays as needed. Leopard has improved on non-RAID but not with RAIDs (for those that change their minds).

  • Help a Mac newbie choose - 21.5" i5 or i7?

    Hi Guys,
I've been a PC user since the middle ages (not really - 1995 to be exact). I've finally decided to buy a new iMac as I love the simple intuitive nature of the OS. I already own an iPhone 4 and an Apple TV. I love them.
So, it boils down to this. I love the look of the 21.5" - the 27" looks awesome, but I don't have the space for it in my study. My computing requirements are pretty simple; I'd love to be able to have full functionality using: iLife, iWork and iTunes. I currently have:
    *about 5,000 songs on iTunes
*11,000 photos and maybe 50 short HD video clips (I use a Canon 550d, capable of 24ffs 1080p)
*a few GB of MS Office documents.
    *a 500Gb external hard drive.
    *a €2,000 budget.
    So, the questions!
a). Will the entry-level 21.5" suffice for my needs, given that I already have a 500Gb external hard drive?
b). Will its 2.5ghz i5 chip run all my apps smoothly, especially 1080p 24fps video clips from my Canon (this is the main reason I'm buying the iMac)
c). Is 4Gb RAM and 500Gb of storage *really* enough, or am I selling myself short for future proofing the machine?
Thank you all for your patience with this Mac newbie!
    FrankDaTank.

    Frank,
The 21.5 is way more than enough for your needs. You should investigate a couple of things though, first you will need another external HD to use as a backup. Operating without backup is a roll of the dice, get yourself a good quality 1TB drive and you should be set. You can use this for Time Machine, if you're not familiar with TM yet watch Time Machine Tutorial, it's only a couple of minutes long. You can easily find a very high quality 1TB drive in the $100 range. The only brand I'd steer away from is Western Digital, they tend to not work well with Macs.
Start out with 4GB of RAM, if this proves to not be enough upgrading RAM is a 5 minute job, inexpensive and doesn't affect the warranty. You can upgrade to 12GB for as low as $76 which provides a lot of headroom. If that is of interest visit OWC at www.macsales.com, they specialize in Macs, have good prices and excellent support including "how to" videos.
In addition I'd also recommend getting AppleCare. This extends the warranty to 3 full years and provides 3 years of  telephone support.
Finally I'd recommend bookmarking and visiting:
