Performance related issues in design studio 1.2

Hi All,
Is there any best practices guide for development purpose in design studio?
I am facing performance issues when I increase the count of data sources (alias in my case) in my application merely from 2 to 3.
There is a considerable time lag in launching the application both locally and on the BI server.
My application is on HANA analytic views and going by its performance it should be fast.
Each and every data source I created contains not more that 1 or 2 dimensions and a single measure.
I am not able to understand why it is happening. Is it preferred to bring in all the data as one big data source? But in that case there is a limitation in selecting specific dimensions and measures for different components. Tool forces us to incorporate multiple data source alias!
Any views will be highly appreciated.

Have you tried using background processing when adding the 3rd data source? See How to set up Background Processing in Design Studio
Design Studio 1.3 is coming out in Q2 2014 where planned HANA native connectivity is coming - see Figure 2 BI2014 Design Studio 1.3 Planned Updates | SCN > sounds like that might help performance.

Below some suggestion from my side.
1-Try to keep Current version open at the time of export and automator run.
2-At extreme use derived property , else manage with somehow if you can
3-If you are creating any derived property make sure you are restricting to related hier
4-In case you are creating derived property check performance to take big hier with derived property node name and description ,if performance not seems to you satisfactory go with some other logic.
5-Don’t use much looking property like Nodeinhier, hiernodepropvalue etc , if need then only use these
6-Tack care of validation if you can do better with verification then don’t put validation in that case
7-I do see some problem while loading data from DRM to DB try to avoid and use some workaround if possible ( like Sql loader)

Query Performance Related Issue

Hi all,
We have a problem when we are executing the Query in BI 7.0. that is
When we are executing the query first time it will take 2 minutes time .
when we are executing the same query second time ( With out logoff the query designer ) it will take 5seconds.
please give me some inputs how it is taking more time at the first time ?
How to reduce the query execution time for the first time?
Already we have tried all the Query performance options.

Hi Kiran,
As the others pointed, when you have executed the query for the 2nd time, it might have read from the cache.
Do the following to investigate the performance issue:
1) Go to RSRT and run your query in "Execute in debug mode"
2) Select "Display Statistics Data", check "Do not use cache"
3) After running the query, press the back button. The system will show a the statistics summary.
4) Analyze what activity has the highest run time.
5) If Data Manager time is >= than 30% of the query time and the if the ratio of number of records selected VS the number of records transfered is > 10% then, build an aggregate to help the query run time. This sacrifices data load time but will improve query execution time.
To know what aggregate will help, run the query in debug mode again and choose the option "Display aggregates found". If the query did not hit an aggregate, the names of the cubes will appear. Use the data in the suggestions column (maked with S: ) as a basis for your aggregate.

Parameter Value passing issue to Web i report from Design Studio APP

I am trying to pass values to 2 parameters in a web I report called DIM1_REPORT and DIM2_REPORT. The values with space for example, Computer Sciences Corporation is getting passed as Computer\Sciences\Corporation Looks like the space is getting replaced with \ and as the values doesn't match the database values, no results are being retrieved. I tried using Convert.urlEncode function as well. But no luck still having same issue. Below is the URL,

Thanks for the response.
I tried to replace the \ with %20 using the following code
Convert.replaceAll(GLOBAL_SCRIPTS_1.DIM1_FILTER_SCRIPT(), "\ ", "%20");
But getting error in the script editor saying
I think \ is causing this issue. If I use any other character other than \ in search expression its not throwing any error in script editor. Any idea is \ considered as delimiter/break in design studio?
Any other way to fix this issue in design studio?

Performane related issue in Production Server

Hi,
when i deploy the whole application in development server (by remotely logging into client server through vpn) it works fine .
But when it is run at client side for system testing, user acceptance testing and
integration testing it becomes very slow .
Due to this performance related issue , we are not able to transfer the DCs to production server .
We are sure it is not coming from R3 side (BAPIs etc) . It is coming either from the Webdynpro or Portal side .
Can anybody help out regarding how to solve this issue .

Let me give you an overview of the project.
In Organisational Assignment a Zprogram has been written which captures additional information like Grade Code, Designation Code & Pay Sheet Code
Its a govt. client. Combination of Grade Code & Designation Code is Pay Scale Grouping
e.g if Grade Code is A01 & Designation Code is A005
Pay Scale Grouping is A01-A005
If we put the values in 0001(Org Assignment) for Grade Code(A01) & Designation Code(A005), A01-A005 comes automatically in Pay Scale Grouping for a particular Pay Scale Structure.
But now the problem is Pay Scale Type doesn't come get defaulted in 0008 for a Personnel Area & Personnel Subarea.
I have maintained PST in Tariff & Check Assignment of Pay Scale Structure in Enterprise Structure.
But in 0008, We have to put PST manually. Since client is having only 1 Pay Scale Area for all Personnel Area & Personnel Subarea, so we don't have to bother for it
Please tell me where can be the error

Error Design Studio - I can not open the DB anymore

Dear All
I am facing a big issue with Design Studio
I was working on a DB and suddenly I can not see it .
I can open it and see outline , DSs properties but I can not see the preview . I get the error below.
I have no idea what happens - I get no error script problem in the DB - I dunno what it is wrong with it.
I have tried to open the RSTT trace but I see no trace with LOC_000001.

Open Design Studio app through BI Platform - Unable to find server in CMS FWM 01014

Hello!
I tried to start work with SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio,
but there are some bugs with Studio apps & BI Platform:
Design Studio add-on was installed to BI platform (4.1 SP2),
after that I successfully connected from Studio to BI plaftorm and save some simple apps to platform.
When I try to open app in platfform - ERROR:
Unalbe to find server in CMS server_url:6400 and cluster @server_url:6400 with type pjs and service AnalysisApplicationDesignService.
I found two SAP notes (in attachment) cause to this issue:
1894504 - Design Studio - Support Note for BIP Add-On
2058382 - Adaptive Processing Server containing Analysis Application service crashes
Reccomendation in them doesn't help
When I open Adaptive Proccesing Server properties in CMC and check services - there was no Analysis Application Design Service in Select services menu, but it must be there! (SAP note reccomend reconnect service to server)
Is I am correct that something wrong with Design Studio Add-on?
What could help?

Hi Manfred,
Yes, it was released already (since some time in 2013),
but it seems to be under revision at the moment.
The note tells to create a new SIA and switch off the old one.
We did it slightly different: We just added a 2nd SIA and kept the old one.
The DesignStudio APS hosting the Analysis Application Service has to be created on the 2nd (new) SIA.
This has the advantage that you don't have to do all the APS/AJS configuration again (APS split, command line parameters, etc.), since you keep the original SIA, but the disadvantage that you have a 2nd SIA to manage.
The note mentions this as a workaround.
The solution should be to run the script attached to the note and then the issue should be fixed, but in our case (and Sergey's) that didn't do the trick, therfore we us this workaround as a "permanent solution" (for the moment).

Upload of Design Studio SDK extension to BI platform failed

Hi Design Studio (SDK) friends,
I created my own extension via Design Studio 1.3 SDK. It works fine in local mode. Than I uploaded it to our BI platform by using the menu entry "platform extensions" in Design Studio. Nice, it works, even on iPad.
Because of some changes we undeployed / removed this extension from the BI platform (vie Design Studio 1.3).
Now, after correcting the extension we would like to upload it again, but it is not possible. Following error message is shown:
"One or more extensions failed to install
Failed to access plugin JAR file of extension "myOwnExtension" (id: de.mycompany.myOwnExtension)"
Other extensions can still uploaded. System is going to undeploy them and reinstall them without any error.
The extension, which could not be uploaded, works fine in local mode. The correction changes were small, like changes in css-file and in the component.js-file.
Do you have any idea, why the system could not access to the plugin JAR file?

I could solve this issue by myself.
I found following discussion:
Issue with Design Studio SDK 1.2 Component development
Because design studio uninstalled my own extension not correctly the *.jar file was missing in the folder:
C:\Users\<myUser>\Analysis-config\plugins
and could not found, while uploading the extension to BIP.
Steps for solving:
1. uninstalling the extension
2. deleting all files in the folder (see above)
3. reinstalling the extension
4. uploading the extension to BIP (it work again)

Performance problems on BI Platform after upgrading to Design Studio 1.3 SP01

we upgraded our Design Studio Add-On from version 1.2 to 1.3 SP01 on our BI 4.1 Platform. (SP01 Patch 2)
After the installation we got performance issues in the BI Launch Pad when opening instances of WEBi reports for example.
Anyone with a problem like that ?

Hi Denis,
for example we've got a WEBI report which is scheduled daily to the default enterprise location. We hold a history of 30 instances. If i try to open the latest instance or any other instance it took a long time to open. The only thing we changed was the installation of DS 1.3 SP01.
I did a few tests and it seems that if i opened the instance one time, it will be faster the second time, if i open it in the same browser session.
I now try to run the End to End trace to see where the time is beeing spent.
Did you hear something about any problems with the BI 4.1 Platform after installing DS 1.3 SP01 ?

Facing following issues with SAP Design studio tool

I am new to SAP Design Studio. I am working on creating dashboards and I am using Design Studio 1.2 version. Please suggest some solutions for the following issues. Thanks in Advance.
1. External CSS file which is embeded using custom CSS option under "application component properties" is not working.
* I kept the external CSS file inside repository-> my application folder.
2. During runtime, getting javascript error while selecting '-' option from filter panel.
3. Unable to select or type dimension name under "dimension filer component" properties.
4. Getting runtime error for dropdown list, and I have inserted the following code under "onStartup" option of Application component properties.
"DROPDOWN_1.setItems(DS_1.getMemberList("PRODUCTREF", MemberPresentation.INTERNAL_KEY, MemberDisplay.TEXT, 20));
and dimension values are not populated in auto suggest."

1) 32-bit Version of Java Runtime ENvironment 1.6 or 1.7 ((http://java.com/en/load/index.jsp)
2) Internet Explorer 9.0
or May be just uninstall and again reinstall

Issues after upgrading design studio 1.3

Hi Experts,
We have upgraded design studio version from 1.2 to 1.3. Before upgradation our application was working fine and we didnt get any error. After upgradation, during runtime we are getting 2 errors and a warning. We are getting the following errors while clicking “Sales chart tab” and we couldnt find the cause of the errors.
During runtime, we are getting the below warning message for a text box. We are displaying aggregated value of a keyfigure (undelivered quantity) in a text box using onload function in application properties and the scripts are as below.

I was facing the same issue and was able to fix with the following steps.
- Login into Web tier box as The Administrator or same user which was
used to install BIP Web tier
- Stop TomcatRun Repair of the Design Studio install (BIP AddOn)
- After install stop tomcat if it started, go to tomcat/work directory
and delete everythign there
- Run wdeploy tomcat7 deployallStart Tomcat and wait 10 minutes

Design Studio 1.4 SDK: Issues when launching from the Eclipse IDE

I am receiving various errors when launching Design Studio 1.4 from the Eclipse IDE for SDK development. All of the components appear in the Component panel as expected but I can't drag and drop any of the SDK components (or standard components for that matter) onto the canvas. When I launch Design Studio 1.4 independently of Eclipse everything works fine (event though I still see come errors in the Console).
I'm hoping the community can provide some guidance to help resolve the issue. The details are documented below:
Environment:
Design Studio Version: Release 1.4 SP0 Patch 1 (64-bit)
Eclipse Version: Java EE IDE Luna Service Release 1a (4.4.1) - 64-bit
Java Run-time Environment: Version 8 Update 25 (64-bit)
Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
Eclipse Configuration for DS SDK:
Target Location:
Target Environment:
Target Run Configuration (Main):
Target Run Configuration (VM Arguments as per DS SDK Developer Guide):
Steps to Reproduce Error
1. Launch Eclipse
2. Launch DS 1.4 from Run command in Eclipse
The following screen appears immediately after launching DS from Eclipse:
At this point the DS error log is as per the attached DS_Log_After_Eclipse_Launch.txt file.
3. Create a new blank Application from the Application -> New menu. This time additional error messages appear as shown in the screenshot below:
It's not possible to drop any standard or SDK components onto the canvas because the internal browser doesn't appear to have been instantiated due to the above errors.
At this point the DS error log is as per the attached DS_Log_After_Eclipse_LaunchAndAppCreate.txt file.
3. Return to Eclipse IDE
The Eclipse Console displays the following errors:
The Eclipse Console Log is as per the attached EclipseConsoleLog.txt file.
4. Launch DS 1.4 Independently
The following errors also appear when I launch DS 1.4 independently of Eclipse but it in this case everything seems to work fine.

Design Studio 1.2 with OLAP issue

HI All,
I have created a report with conditional formatting in Analysis for OLAP. I saved as a web application and open in Design Studio. Everything works fine. Chart is fine. Currently I am using the chart type as Column Combination - Dual Axis once I make change to the onclick event of the chart. Then columns changes to line chart . Not sure where this change is taking place.

After uninstalling Design Studio and before re-installing it again did you try the following steps?:
1) Delete any remaining Analysis folders in the user directory such as:
C:\Users\<user>\Analysis-config
2) Make sure the Design Studio program folder has been completely deleted:
C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\Design Studio

Login Issues to SAP HANA from Design Studio

Hello All ,
I am pretty newbie here so the question might seem a bit elementary .We are trying to connect to our SAP HANA environment from Design studio .When we are pinging the XSEngine URL it is responding properly .But when we are trying to connect from Design Studio the following error occurs .
Here is the landscape we have designed so far :
HANA Server is installed .
BOXI 4.1 SP 5 server is installed .
HANA and BO servers are communicating through SSL .
Design Studio Add-on is installed on BO server .
When we tried to explore the path using HANA explorer we found the path mentioned in the error screen does not exist .
What we need to do to overcome this error ?

Unable to install design studio add-on onto BI Platform

second image is no matter i will choose third ones.However, the next step, i try to get pass cmc login within the first image but i could not, i can login cmc with these login credentials which i used add-on process side, i do not think that this issue is related to login credentials,
another way that i can deploy analisys application server within CMC ?
