PermGen
Hi
I am getting Java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space error in my application. In order to reduce the same i increased my perm gen space to 256 MB via <jvm-arg>-XX:MaxPermSize=256m</jvm-arg> but the error reoccurred. So I have checked the number of classes that were loading in the JVM and reduced the primitive arrays and inline strings used. Though my application runs on an ERROR logging mode, still i get the same error.. Can you please suggest some more actions i could take..
Are you working with Stanalone Application or Web Based ?
If WebBased than please specify OS and Server name.
Increasing JVM Space normally solve the issue. But better u check ur code and try to figure out what type of object are acquiring memory that they should not do.
Means GC going to fail to collect that object although that are not really used.

Hi All
OBIEE 11g installation fails at configuration step with the following error:
Creating a new AdminServer Object ...
AdminServer port is 7001
Starting the domain ...
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space
We tried to set the set JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS in oraparam.ini file and ran the config.bat too.
While running config.bat, the setup is asking for "Scale out BI" and not for creating New domain.
So we are unable to continue with the installation.
Has anyone faced this error.
We are installing on Win7 64 bit machine.

Permgen error while launching the weblogic server in windows
Hi,
While starting the weblogic server from the windows, I am getting the below error 'Permgen space error' for Sip Server. Please let me know how can I avoid running the sip server while starting the weblogic server or how can I avoid the permgen error.

You can increase the PermSize and MaxPermSize parameters of the JVM to avoid java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space.
These parameters can be set in the setDomainEnv file. -

im setting up, an Liferay 6.1.1 on an WebLogic 11G all based on Linux Redhead.
At the moment i get this error after 5 hours using Google, it still cant help me with MBean null errors :-/
My problem: Weblogic installtion was succesfull and without problems.
I connected Weblogic with the Oracle DB -> no problems.
I added the liberays needed for Liferay -> no problems.
I deployed liferay -> first error (time out, its not acitvated but deployed)
I activated it again (top right corner) -> all perfect
So i watched the deployment and Weblogic said me its running but i cant connect on it. (Yep i used the right link)
Then i tried to restart Weblogic - an now i got this mistakes ...
Has someone hints how i can eliminate this errors?

Upgrading to PT 8.49.14 - PermGen problem with weblogic console
All Peoplesoft domain Comes you fine in our env setup (Admin, PIA1, and PIA2).
When we try to bring up the console, we're able to get the initial signon screen.
We enter the account and password, hit the signon button, and it never comes back.
The log ends up showing a PermGen error:

ThanksIncreasing PermGen size doesn't solve problem at all. Source of the problem is related with class loader. After you web app is undeployed class loader can not unload all classes from PermGen memory. This leads to extra memory consumption after every undeploy, deploy cycle. Make sure every class can be released and undeployed after undeploy.

Problem with PermGen memory (Java) - Tomcat Server - Business Object XI
We have installed Business Objects XI on a W2003 Standard with SP2 (x86), using Tomcat as web server and MySQL as DBMS. The server has 4 GB of RAM and dual-core processor. From the beginning we have been given the memory problems of the Java virtual machine. The exception that occurs is of type "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space failure". We modify environment variables (JAVA_OPTS) -XX: PermSize = 256m and-XX: MaxPermSize = 512m and install the monitor LambdaProbe to see the use made of memory. We note that at no time was the PermGen memory indicated by these variables, continuing in that has a default 64MB. For this reason we decided to change the Tomcat 5.5 BO included in the version 6.0.20 and also updated Java to version 1.6.0_18-b07, and make deployment by wdeploy.bat file that comes with BusinessObjects (changing config.tomcat55 and tomcat55.xml). The deployment was successful and everything works, but as with the previous version of Java / Tomcat, shortly PermGen memory fills and returns to "hang". In this latest version of Tomcat installed as a service, do not use environment variables, use an application, "Configure Tomcat", which is a tab to pass parameters to the JVM. After looking at many sites, I have seen to be putting "-D" to pass the parameter. Currently this is my configuration:

Is the Product you are using BusinessObjects Enterprise XI (Release 1)?
With XIR2 and XI31, Tomcat 5.0 and Tomcat 5.5 are included with the software, and when installed with the BOE installer, you will get an application installed to the startmenu named "Tomcat Configuration".
Using this "Tomcat Configuration" utility, there are several configuration options available. On the JAVA tab, you will see the JAVA_OPTS that are set (These are prefixed with "-D") and also your initial and max memory sizes are listed at the bottom (Max 1024 by default in XI31).
Here is the default setting for permsize in XI31 Tomcat:
-XX:MaxPermSize=256M
From your post, your issue might be the spaces in between your values (there should be no spaces, each "-" parameter on its own line).
I would suggest starting Tomcat and reviewing your stdout.log file to review what options were set.

OBIEE 11g installing in Linux server now. domain creation is in progress for about an hour and in log I can see below error.

Starting the domain ...

domain creation is still running and looks like it is struck to start domain no idea how to solve the issue. waiting to see whether domain creation successful.

There can be a leak in the permgen objects. If tuning parameters do not resolve the issue, we need to use the memory leak detector tools and find out which instances in the permgen space are not getting cleared.

The script that configures the domain $DOMAIN_HOME/bin/setDomainEnv.sh... it should detect you are using JDK from Sun (JAVA_VENDOR="Sun") and add -XX:MaxPermSize=512m automatically...
Simple solution, use JRockit... This problem only occurs with Sun JDK...
Alternatively, add manually -XX:MaxPermSize=512m to the last JAVA_PROPERTIES in setDomainEnv.sh then you will be sure it is there...

From Jdeveloper I installed the extensions for SOA Composite Editor and BPM studio.
Created Domain for SOA server
All installations, utitlities and configurations completed successfully.
After starting the Weblogic Admin. server (server is up and OK)

2. If yes, How you are starting the Managed server ? Is that by Nodemanager or Startscript ?
Yes. I start the managed server by startscript (using startmanagedweblogic)
3. Can you check the <managed_server1>.out log file what java heap size is mentioned ?
I have not reached the managed server startup (though it starts and gives
the last line as SOA platform is accepting and running the requiests.
My problem is with weblogic server, which after login I get the Permgen out of memory error.
4. Can you show us the start up arguements of your each managed server ?

SQL Developer 3.1 getting PermGen space Error during migrations
We are using SQL Developer 3.1 to migrate because it is allowing us direct connections to both Sybase and Oracle. While running migration tests I would occasionally receive the following error when running the Convert and/or Move data steps even if run off-line.
Error: Migration actions have failed. Check the migrations reports for details. : PermGen space.
I seemed to have solved the error by shutting down and restarting SQL Developer after the completion of each major step. I know 3.1 is Early Adaptor but is this a known issue and is there another solution? Also, 3.1 is having issues with freezing so does anyone know when the next bug fix will be released?

Hello all. I have quite a trouble with JVM:
We're developing a multimodule web application. Modified wars (=modules) are sent from continuous integration server to our development JBoss many times a day - this redeploys modified WAR. The same for clients - we'd like to redeploy single modules without restarting the server.
Unfortunately after few redeploys we get PermGen space. Server is useless and must be restarted.
1) When JVM started with -client option I can avoid PermGen space, but from time to time (~1/10 redeploys), I get this:

2) With -server option I still have PermGen space, because JVM doesn't call finalize() methods on objects. Finalization queue is big.
Is there any JVM option for enabling finalization in -server mode (except manual calling System.runFinalization()), or this is a bug in JVM?
3) According to -XX:+TraceClassUnloading, JVM unloads unused classes only when PermGen memory is full. Lots of unused classes from WEB-INF/lib are kept in memory for long time. Couldn't this unloading be done earlier?
Any ideas? My JVM version is 1.6.0_10.And another thing I don't understand with -server option. Sometimes instead of throwing PermGen, the application is frozen by GC. But even weak references to some objects aren't removed, for example:

Hi Tlwi and Marc,
Im facing the same error in my environment. This is an Oracle Application Server which hosts a J2EE envionment. The application works fine without any issues, but all of a sudden the following error comes up and stalls the application. I have to restart the conatiner to handle the situation, but this is not the solution.
Based on my searching it reveals that this error does not mean that the jvm is running out of heap space instead it uses some memory outside the heap to unzip the zip files.
Can you let me know on the solution that you had applied or what can be done to fix this as i have enough heap space.

Any possible pointers to the issue. Is it a issue with incompatible JDK 1.7 with weblogic 10.3.5.I just checked on the Oracle Support site. Oracle WebLogic Server 10.3.5.0.0 is certified with Oracle JDK (1.6.0_24+). There are other JDKs listed but they're all in the Java 6 family, no Java 7.
Also, Oracle WebLogic Server 12.1.1.0.0 shows as certified with Oracle JDK 1.6.0_29+.
Of course, this is all as of this writing.

If there is no memory leak, then tuning should resolve the issue please check the JDK version it should be
jdk1.6.0_26 and above vesrion then only weblogic 10.3.4.0/10.3.5.0 will iwork.

Embedded WLS and JDev 12.1.2: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space
This problem happens after about 10-15 application restarts during development phase. I have read somewhere that this was a known bug in 11g versions of JDev and its integrated WLS (10.3.5 or 10.3.6?). I have then increased memory parameters in configuration file. The only thing I achieved is that this crash now occurs later then sooner. Still very frustrating. When this happens I have to restart WLS and sometimes kill frozen JDeveloper.
Any other idea/workaround?
