Phantom, Final Cut Pro X workflow

Hi friends,
Please suggest the best workflow for phantom camera footages with final cut pro X.
Thanks in Advance
Sreekumar Nair

Hi Tom,
Yes I've tried, but it didn't work.
It works when I copy all the files from the SD-card to my hard drive, but then I see blocks/pixels in the video as shown on the picture below.
Thanks for your help thusfar. Hopefully you have an other suggestion for me

  • Speeding up Final Cut Pro X workflow with nikon d7100

    Hi everybody,
I recently bought a Nikon d7100. I've shot some footage and now I want to edit it in Final Cut Pro X. I know FCPX doesn't support the H264 codec natively so I converted it to ProRes 422(LT) with mpeg Streamclip and Compressor. Works perfectly, but my problem/question is as follows:
Doing it this way takes way too long. Is there a faster way to do this? I used other camera's in the past and usually there was a plug-in to do this within FCPX itself.
Does anyone have tips to speed up my workflow?
    All help is appreciated! Thanks

  • Proper Motion to Final Cut Pro 5 workflow for highest quality in Final Cut.

I have read several post on Motion 2 to Final Cut Pro. I am somewhat unclear as to how to get the very highest quality Motion 2 project into Final Cut Pro 5. I am currently creating a new DV project in Motion 2, as I am working in DV in Final Cut Pro 5. I notice the Motion 2 files look blurry inside Final Cut Pro 5 when I import the Motion project file and add it to my sequence timeline. Clearly I am doing something wrong. Should I ever export from Motion as a Quicktime movie, and then add that Motion Quicktime movie to the sequence timeline? I know that the Animation codec gives the highest quality from Motion, but what about when you are using the Motion project file in Final Cut Pro 5?
As always thanks in advance for taking the time to read and reply to my Post,
    Sebastian

if you're exporting using the DV codec, Quicktime displays the clip at a lesser resolution than the clip actually is, and it will appear blurry on a computer monitor.
open the clip in QT, go to "Window>Show movie properties". select the video track in the top portion of that window, then the "Visual Settings" tab. Check off the "High Quality" checkbox at the lower right of the window.
this only affects DV codec clips, from what i understand.

  • Describe your Final Cut Pro editing workflow?

Being new to Final cut I would love to hear more about your workflow in Final Cut in terms of capturing clips, organizing clips, etc. Do you first color correct all your footage and then begin editing in timeline, do you color correct as you go? etc.

You color correct AFTER you have locked the cut. Doing so beforehand would be a waste of time.
I have a tutorial DVD on my organization workflow... Getting Organized in FCP.
Fro documentary, after I organize, I lay out the "radio cut", which is narration and soundbytes only. This is when I build the basic story. Then I go back and add footage, maybe add music at the same time. Then go back and add music or fine tune music, and add pacing to the cut. Maybe make a few changes.
But this is all dependent on having a script. If I had no script, I'd watch all the interviews and try to find a story, build minor sequence with storylines.
Narrative...that is VERY script based. I might have a separate sequence for a string of scenes...but I follow the script very much in the beginning, then go back and dissect the heck out of it...what works and what doesn't, work on the pacing.
BTW, I might be compensated by the above posted link.

  • Blueray workflow form final cut pro x

    Hello,
I'm trying to produce a blue ray master using:
external blue ray writer  http://www.buffalotech.com/products/optical-drives/mediastation/mediastation-12x -external-blu-ray-writer
    imac
    final cut pro x
toast titanium 11 with blue ray plug in
I'm looking for a working workflow to get several FCPX projects into a format that toast will burn and not degrade the quality and work
    what I've tried:
Exporting to pro res 422 HQ format which produces large .mov files. I then import these files into toast. Toast accepts these but then encodes them. when testing the successful burned disc in several players only one of the 6 films plays the film

It seems like a Toast issue, rather tham a FCP issue. Can't think of anything specific to FCPX that Toast should have trouble with.  AFAIK,  export media, bring into Toast and you should be good…except you're not. Have you tried Roxio support?

  • Workflow for GoPro photo timelapse in Final Cut Pro?

Shot a timelapse using photographs and the self timer with the GoPro HD.  But am having troubles with the proper sizing for final cut pro.
I used Quicktime 7 to make all the images into a .mov.  But when I bring that file into final cut, it's nowhere close to as sharp as it should be.  The photos come out of the GoPro at 2592 × 1944 @ 72dpi.   When I kick it out in Quicktime 7 it comes out as, 1224 × 917.  Then when I bring it into a 1280 × 720 timeline, it looks like junk.
Any suggestions on the proper workflow and settings to do this the best possible way?

    Hi,
Personally I do stills time-lapse conversions in motion.
Set up a project same as your sequence (1280x720 in your case)
Import the stills as an image sequence, resize (and do moves if you wish) on the oversized image sequence.
Then export it as a QuickTime movie in the same codec as your fcp sequence.
    Works a treat for me.
    Cheers

  • Final Cut Pro 7 Setup/workflow

    Hello there,
I work at a small company and we are starting to build large amount of raw tape and capture scratch data. I am writing to learn about best practices, procedures, and troubleshooting techniques. We have two editors who both work off Macs on a 1 gig Ethernet network using Final Cut Pro 7. The data lives on a remote storage device, synology volume. They are currently connecting to the device using AFP and creating projects over the network.
    Mac Devices:
    iMac 27 OSX 10.9.5
    16GB RAM
    512 SSD
    Synology:
    4x1 gig E bonded
    40 TB usable
    Small Project :
         Raw Data: approximately 13GB
         Capture Scratch:  approximately 15GB
Final Cut 7 project file:  170KB
    Large Project :
         Raw Data: approximately 135GB
         Capture Scratch:  approximately 345GB
Final Cut 7 project file:  11MB
The two editors are experiencing different level of lags and poor editing experience. The editors work off the remote volumes, they don't move the data (capture scratches) to their local drives when they are working on these projects.
I have a number of questions about to how approach this:
    1. What are best practices for setting up -editor machines/volumes/etc?
    2. What transfer/mount protocols should they use AFP/SMB/NFS ?
    3. What software can I use to get benchmarks for read/write to the remote volumes ?
    4. If we went to a 10Gig E network switch, should we upgrade the nic cards on the iMacs? should we use Fiber optic ? copper?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Media@relay

Is this Synology volume rated for the high demands of video playback? Most generic servers companies employ for data isn't up to the rigors and speeds needed for video editing, especially two stations needing to access video at the same time. If you plan on having a server for video, you need to make sure it's fast enough for video work.
Both of those projects really have very little video data. Get 1TB drives for both stations and work off the media on them. FW800 at least...no USB2. USB3 is fine, if the computers have USB 3 connections.  Thunderbolt is best, if they have those connections.

  • Workflow from Final cut Pro

    Hello there,
I have a three minute video sequence in Final Cut Pro and
want to post it on the web for streaming. My question now is:
should I export from FCP using my quicktime export to flash
file function or do I get better quality when I convert in the
    Flash media encoder.
The follow on question then is: how do I know what setting to
    use in FCP?
Or if I would go the other way: what format should my movie
be in to import into the Flash media encoder?
    thank you so much.

it appears that if you check only "include crossfades"(during the fcp omf export) it does retain those once in logic, but if you check both "levels" and "crossfades", nothing gets retained. strange.

  • Canon EOS 7-D/Workflow Final cut Pro questions.

Today i just upgraded my final cut pro from 5 to the latest 7.0.3, and im having trouble viewing my clips.
    First off, im very confused.
    http://www.usa.canon.com/dlc/controller?act=GetArticleAct&articleID=3249
i read this entire article and still cant view my clip in the timeline. Here's what im doing.
I plugged in my card into a card reader,
next i opened final cut pro, and i opened up log and transfer.
my clips are all there, and i can preview them all.
Step 3 is what confuses me.
    3. In the Import Preferences window, select 'Canon DSLR' as your Source, and then select the Transcode to format of your choice (such as ProRes 422).
when i open up my settings/preferences in the log/transfer settings i cant seem to find "canon dslr, or how to make it my "source".
instead, i see AVCHD PLugin, P2 PLug in, MPEG2 Consumer Cameras, and Canon E1. i selected the Obvious Canon E1 (because thats the plug in you download) and when i added it to the queue it finished and i am still unable to see it in the right window. There's audio but the screen is white.
So the burning questions i have..
    What am i doing wrong?
What do you use for your easy format or custom format?

First don't use Final Cut to import directly from the card. Use Disc Utility to make a new image of the card from your card reader onto a hard drive. Make a back up copy of this by dragging it to another drive if possible. Now if anything goes wrong you are secure. Open one of these disk images and log and transfer from them with FCP.
You do this by opening log and transfer window. Use the top left button in the window to point to the files. On the other side of the left pane at the top open preferences, select the Canon E1 but then double click the little arrows which should open another window and offer a selection of versions of ProRes, choose Apple ProRes or ProRes LT, anything higher is overkill. Select the files you want and add them to the import queue. They should start importing automatically. You should be able to see files appearing in logging bin progressively. Whilst the import is happening do not touch anything else in FCP, allow the whole import to finish before playing with them.

  • Export project from final cut pro to Avid

What are my options to create a workflow that implies doing my last trims on Avid (Adrenaline and Nitris?)
My idea is to create almost ended videos on Final cut Pro 5 by myself and expend a last day or two on an Avid Nitris to do the final touches, mixing audio and output the stuff...
the videos are industrial video and small budget commercials that requires more effects that Final Cut can offer me...
    THANKS IN ADVANCE

First off, you'll need PRO EXPORT FCP>AVID from www.automaticduck.com.
Then you'll need to recapture all the footage used in the sequence into the Avid, since FCP and Avid capture media differently.

  • Best Way to import items from final cut pro

I have recently edited a video in final cut pro studio 1 and them compressed the file for dvd studio. However when i came to look for my file it was as a quicktime movie that dvd studio could not see. ie when i came to locate the file i dvd studio it did not show up when other files had. I tried rebooting the program but alas it still could not find it.
Can someone tell me a better way or what i have done wrong?
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul Andrews

Best way is to export from Final Cut (either self contained or to Compressor) and then encode the video to m2v (using Compressor or other encoder) and audio to AC3 then bring those files into DVD SP

As to why the file is not being seen, are you sure you exported to the path you are looking at? Just try exporting to the desktop to make sure you know where it is.
If you have more details on the workflow it will help (such as how you exported, where to, what types of files, etc.)

  • Final Cut Pro issues in Lab environment

Ok so this one has me completely buggered.
I manage about 6 Mac Pros in a small TV Studio/Editing lab at a university. The Mac Pros are managed with an Xserve running server 10.6.2, using Open Directory for account management. All network accounts use a network Home folder, so any machine can use the same account and settings. The same server also manages a 25 machine iMac lab environment.
Each semester, we wipe the Mac Pros clean an reinstall the OS and Final Cut Studio. Last semester, the Mac Pros were upgraded to 10.6, and Studio 3 and we had no issues. This semester, a fresh installation of 10.6 was installed, as well as fresh Studio 3.
Now this is the problem we are having. Final Cut Pro 7 will not correctly create .fcp project files when users are logged in with their network server accounts. If you save the project to the desktop, or anywhere else in the Home folder, it creates a .fcp file, seemingly normal. But after the project is closed, the .fcp will not open again. Further more, a quick file size check shows the .fcp files are zero KB. Opening with Textedit shows an empty document, not even a single bit of data shows up.
But, Final Cut Pro 7 will create .fcp files perfectly fine on the local disk, or firewire drives. Local accounts also work fine. This problem only happens on network homes.
This is severely hampering the workflow for students using these editing stations, as they can't use their network home folders to save any data in Final Cut.
The strangest part, is it worked fine last semester. The same machines were running 10.6 and Studio 3, and the server has not been changed at all.
    Any clues?

    No problem Tom!
I didn't checked before but i solved thanks to your post... for some strange reason, the French language that i don't use, appeared in my language preference pane. I just added the English, and moved/deleted the French after it and FCP became English again!

  • Is Final Cut Pro the only software that can open video .MXF files for Macs?

    Hello,
Many thanks in advance for your attention.
Trying to find software that will edit .MXF Video Files to work with Mac.
As the edit is simple, prefer iMovie, but happy if the Conversion software only works with FCExpress (or even FCPro if that is the only alternative).
    1. If it matters, .MXF (Material Exchange Format) Video files came from shooting on a Panasonic 500 P2. Originally downloaded onto a Windows system, using Adobe Premiere.
    2. I just want to see and convert some of the shots I did for my Reel, etc., but I have a Mac.
    3. I have iMovie HD, iMovie 09, and FCExpress (which I don't know how to use that well).
    4. When I attach an External HD with backup files of all the footage shot, they show up named as .MXF files. They appear as VLC files (VLC icon), but the suffix is .MXF.
    5. When I try to play them as VLC files, they won't play. It seems they start to play, but then the VLC software quits.
    6. So I have tried downloading some software on the Internet that Google says converts .MXF files.
I tried: iSkysoft Video Converter, AVCWare Mac Video Converter, MPEG Streamclip, and a couple others. They all seem to have basically the same conversion setups, but when I click to pick one .MXF file, none of them recognize it. (The file in my Browse window is greyed out).
    7. MoyaVideo Converter for Mac recognizes the .MXF file, but when I hit the "conversion" button - I tried a couple different settings, all it seems to convert is the first frame. Even if the .MXF file says a clip is 123MB or 43 seconds long, etc.
    8. I can't even watch the clip in Preview. Press Play and it is just the first frame.
    9. I have read elsewhere in these forums, some people touting conversion software from a company in Germany - mfxformac. I am fine with paying for conversion software, but $500?
    10. And I have read elsewhere that only Final Cut Pro has a codec that will open .MXF files. If this is so, why do the above companies claim to have software that opens .MXF files for Mac?
    11. Isn't there a further problem if I can't even see the video using VLC? Or is that because I am using Mac and need FCPro with the right codec?
Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated.

MXF files from P2 can only be imported using FCP. iMovie can't, nor FCE...if you are talking about APPLE software. Avid deals with MXF files natively. But FCP will ONLY import them if the entire P2 card structure is intact. Please tell me that you have the entire P2 card backups. If not, then it won't work. If you do...then here is the process for importing into FCP:
    P2 Workflow with FCP 6
    3. I have iMovie HD, iMovie 09, and FCExpress (which I don't know how to use that well).
Then you need someone to provide you with QT files of this footage. None of them work with P2.
NONE of the converters you listed will work... Sorry.
    9. I have read elsewhere in these forums, some people touting conversion software from a company in Germany - mfxformac. I am fine with paying for conversion software, but $500?
That software is to get it to work with Final CUt Pro natively. What it doesn't do is convert the footage to QTs. There is also Raylight and Calibrated...but again, they are for FCP.
P2 is a professional format, and to use it you need professional software. iMovie won't work...nor will FCE. If you need to work with it in those formats, you need to have someone import the files and convert them to AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec).
HD Log might work...but not sure what QT format it converts to. A demo is available.

  • Can an "Archive From Camera" folder be opened up in Final Cut Pro?

    Greetings.
I'm just starting out, using an AVCHD camcorder and iMovie.
I've got video in my camcorder, and I want to remove it from the camcorder to make room for more video, and edit it in iMovie.
However, I also want to preserve the original in its original form for posterity and future use. I'd like to keep an original forward-compatible version around to use in Final Cut Pro (which I don't yet have but plan to get).
iMovie gives me two import options - directly into iMovie (which changes the file), and an "Archive From Camera" which appears to save it in what looks like the same folders/files as what's on the camcorder.
If I perform an Archive From Camera, can I use the folder it generates to import the original video into FCP at a future date?
Is this the best way to take video, use it in iMovie, and save a copy of the original so that it's there if I want to step up the editing at a later date?
    Thanks!

    Thanks!
So the safe workflow is basically: 1) make archive, 2) backup archive, 3) import into iMovie, 4) reformat camera.
I'm nervous about errasing the video in the camera before I abolutely know it's safe, but I imagine if I leave it there and add to it, the next archive will combine new + old material..
(apologies for the mirrored post - at 1st there were no takers in FCX so I then posted here).

  • How do I revert to original footage in Final Cut Pro X version 10.0.9, for some reason I have lost some audio in my timeline and would like to start again but cannot get the original footage?

How do I revert to original footage in Final Cut Pro X version 10.0.9?
For some reason I have lost some audio in my timeline and would like to start again but cannot get the original footage?
Only the edited version which is no good without the audio?

What format is your problem clip? Are there wave forms visible in the section without sound?
Right click on the clip in the event broswer and choose Reveal in Finder; open the clip in Quick Time to confirm that there is sound throughout at that stage of your workflow.
