Photos missing randomly

I upgraded my iphone 3 to iOS 4 and some of the pics are missing from camera roll. The surprising fact is that the missing photos are random, I mean they not not most or least recent, nirther it is a contionous chunck of photos. For each of the events I have covered using my phone only acouple of photos are now available in camera roll.
Any one has seem this issue or how can I recover th missing photos.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
The ! or ? turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
The most common cause of this is User Activity in the iPhoto Library Folder.
Have you altered, moved or renamed anything in the iPhoto Library Folder?
If you haven't, then try rebuilding the database. Hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys and launch iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
As to the apparent duplication of the pics in the iPhoto Library Folder: A Note about the iPhoto Library Folder:
In this folder there are various files, which are the Library itself and some ancillary files. Then you have three folders
Originals are the photos as they were downloaded from your camera or scanner.
(ii) Modified contains edited pics, shots that you have cropped, rotated or changed in any way.
This allows the Photos -> Revert to Original command - very useful if you don't like the changes you've made.
(iii) Data holds the thumbnails the the app needs to show you the photos in the iPhoto Window.

  • Aperture album contents not all showing on Apple TV photos; random photos missing

Only noticed this problem by chance when searching for a particular set of photos while viewing Aperture photos via an Apple TV 2. Some Albums are fine others have a random number of photos missing (compared with viewing in Aperture itself) with as little as one photo being shown when there are hundreds in the Album. Any suggestions/ideas as to whether the problem may a set up issue or systematic?

You may not have previews built for the photos that are not showing up. Select all the pictures in the Album that is not displaying all photos, right click while holding the mouse over one of the selected photos, and then select "update previews". After Aperture has built previews for all the photos in that album, you may have to quit Aperture before they will all show up on the AppleTV (when you quit Aperture you will see a progress bar saying "updating sharing preferences", or something to that effect).
If there is a way to get Aperture to update sharing preferences without quiting, will someone reply to the method to achive this? So far, quiting is the only way I have discovered to force Aperture to update the sharing prefs.
Let us know if this works. Usually photos not showing up outside of Aperture is caused from not having previews built for those photos.

  • Random sequential groups of photos missing from Events and iPhoto Slideshow but are in an Album. How do I recover or copy photos back to Events and rebuild slideshow?

Random sequential groups of photos missing from Events, an Album I created, and a slideshow using the photos. This "appears" to have happened when upgrading to Yosemite. When I use iPhoto Library Manager, I see two entries for the Event Information for the date in question, same name, same number of photos, but different sizes. The smaller has the image number but no photo for the given date; the larger has the photos.
Image path for the version with all photos: /Volumes/Promise Pegasus/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Previews/2010/2010_05_24/IMG_0697.jpg
Image path for the version with missing photos: /Volumes/Promise Pegasus/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Previews/2010/2010_05_24_2/IMG_0697.jpg (NOTE the _2 added to the image number.)
I assume that I have to get the missing pictures back in Events so I can reload back into the Album. Hopefully, the slideshow will magically be better.
    Help!

That's an indication that the link/file path between the thumbnail and the master file has been broken.  Do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • Missing random photos in epub export

I am converting a print book to an ePub. I built the layout in a word processing document in Pages, using inline images, text styles and flush, right and left images. I then exported the file to the ePub format. It is a large book with 400,000 words and 300 images.
The final product looked great until I started noticing that there were photos missing throughout the document - about 115 out of the 300. There is no pattern to which are missing - i.e. 40 in row are fine and then 3 in row are missing. I used 3 different alignment settings for the inline images and some of each all appear fine. The images are all dropped in using paste from an InDesign file that contains a photo with its caption so as to keep the caption with the image. The dropped image is a pdf that the epub exporter converts to a PNG file. In the xhtml files inside the epub, there is no reference at all to the missing images - the image numbers completely skip them and the code just has a space where the image code should appear.
I was hoping to be able to get close with Pages to ePub and then make minor tweaks to the finished product. I didn't expect to have to hand convert 115 images into PNGs, hand code them into their exact location, code the reference into the OPF file and then assemble it all again. Seems to strongly point to an "undocumented feature" that is ignoring random images.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. (I've got about 40 hours into converting this book so far and it looks like it is going to add about 20 more to manually fix all these problems and manually check the output.)
    Thanks,
    Wade

I was not able to solve this problem using Pages. I took the problematic ePub I exported from Pages and used it as a starting point. I did a bunch of research on the ePub format and figured out how to solve the problem manually. (Make sure you use the latest version of the iTunesConnect_PublisherUserGuide.pdf as it gives a host of great information and things you have to do for it to work.)
I ended up getting technical and cracking open the ePub file into its component parts - META-INF, mimetype, OPS - by changing the ePub extension to zip and then using Stuffit Archive manager to export the contents. (In a ton of research I found all about the structure of the ePub files and that it is basically a ZIP file with some special qualities.)
Inside the OPS folder is basically a web folder - with an xhtml page for each chapter, css files, image files and a couple of ePub specific files. I used Dreamweaver to edit the problem chapters and placed the missing images. Also, I converted all of the "dropped images" I brought in from InDesign to PNG files (they contained the image with its caption so that it stayed formatted and in place with the picture). This served to make the overall size of the ePub smaller, as we were bumping up against the iTunes size limit.
The item that has to be done or this won't work is to correctly modify the "epb.opf" file that is in the OPS folder. When you open it, you will see the pattern of how every image placed in Pages is listed/referenced in this file. From there, I had to add the appropriate reference to every image I had added and make sure that there were no extra images referenced. The ePub will not validate without this step. (Another tool I used was ePubChecker - it will check for this and many other things that will cause your iTunes validation to fail. Invaluable.)
Once I made all the modifications, I used ePub Zip 1.0.2 to correctly ZIP all the files and convert it to a validatable ePub file. I couldn't create the right kind of ePub file - with all the meta data set correctly - using Stuffit. (Had something to do with how something wrote out from Stuffit). ePub Zip did it perfectly.
It has been a while since I did all this, and it was an all-nighter, so I may not have listed all the details here. If I have not explained something clearly or left something out, please let me know.
Hope this helps. It wasn't much fun, but it was really awesome when it finally succeeded in uploading and validating on iTunesConnect. Then we had to wait at least a year for it to appear in the store. It was a little over two weeks, but it seemed close to a year. Good luck with your book!

  • How do you play photos in random order?!?!?

This is apple right? You can do things very easily, thats why I switched from PC. How do I view photos in random order in iPhoto? The help menu says to choose the "Shuffle Slide Order"... WHAA? Where is this on the menu, am I doing somethig wrong? Please tell me I am just missing the obvous.
    Thanks!
    B

    Hi Brian,
I am assuming you are talking about an "on the fly" slideshow.
Select the images, album, roll, etc. and hit the Play button on the bottom left of the window. In the next window, check "shuffle slides order"
Pssst...just a little hint, you will not find shuffle on a permanent slideshow menu for an option.

  • Photos Missing From Album

I upgraded to 10.10.3 and when opening the photos app, all of my albums successfully migrated.  The only issue is that my IPhoto albums were sorted by name and that sort didn't follow.  I unchecked the sort by date and it put most of them in the right place and I manually sorted the rest.  I shut down the program and came back to it a few hours later.  There are now photos missing from the album.  I can't figure out what happened.  I looked in the recently deleted photos and they are not there.  I have them backed up both in IPhoto and in a separate folder, but before I bring them back in I need to know what happened.  Anybody have any ideas???

I agree it would be helpful to know what happened, but I suspect we won't find out.

  • Photos Move Randomly in a Slideshow?  9.5.1

I am in a slideshow (not an album) and when I try to change the order of the photos, all the photos move randomly to a new order.  I can't arrange photos.  I'm running iPhoto 9.5.1  Help?

There's a bug with iPhoto 9.5 and Mavericks in that slideshows from Albums do not play correctly if they are sorted manually.  Only photos that have been sorted by date, keyword, rating or title will play from albums correctly.
To have a slideshow with photos sorted manually use the slideshow mode in iPhoto.

Did you restore your backup?  That should restore your camera roll photos.

Why is it when I get a new idevice and try to upload photos from iCloud onto my device there are always a large portion of photos missing?

Adding to fromsouth...  if you are restoring from a backup, then only photos in the camera roll are made available, not others.
If you are using photo stream, then only photos that have been on the stream server in the past 30 days (and a max of 1000 of them) are downloaded.  All others have been deleted, since photo stream is not a storage service, but a syncing service that allows you to sync photos over a 30 day window.

Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
Could you supply a little more information please? Until you do no one can do anything except make wild guesses.
What did you do to lose it?
Have you looked in the trash? if that is where it is just drag it back to the applications folder.
Have your done a search for it?
What hardware and software do you have?
Did you have a hard drive crash?
Did you just upgrade your OS? If so how did you do that?
What else do that might have affected your iPhoto application?
What version of iPhoto do (did) you have?
What version of the OS are you running?
One answer is for you to use the install disks that came with your computer and install iPhoto from there using the install bundled software option (or following MacWorld's instructions here.
    Good luck

  • About 1000 photos missing from IOS6 iPhoto and iPhone - how do I locate or recover them?

About 1000 photos missing from IOS6 iPhoto and iPhone - how do I locate or recover them?
About phone section says i have 3,223 photos - but I can no longer see about 1000 photos from about 2 years ago. This may be connected to recently trying to back up phone to iCloud, but i could not work out how to do that as I can't see any images at all showing in my iCloud account.
I am using iPhone 4s IOS 6.1.13 iPhone - didn't update software previously due to concerns about losing photos, ironically
My iTunes back tells me also that i have 3,303 photos in it - but again I can't understand how to locate these photos
    any help appreciated - thanks

With your iPhone connect to iPhoto, select the photos and/or videos you want to import followed by selecting Import Selected instead of selecting Import All.
It is a good idea to remove the photos and/or videos from your iPhone's Camera Roll after the import process is complete.

  • IPhoto 08 - Photos missing

I just realized many of my photo in my default album show as missing. When I open my iPhoto library in finder I find all the photo missing but aliases in the folders. Can anyone give me an idea what may have happened?
    Thanks,
    Bob

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Offline Address Book Missing Random Recipients

I'm coming from an upgrade of Exchange 2007 to 2010 in our organization. One major change I've made with our new Offline Address Book is that we no longer have Public Folder distribution enabled, just Web Distribution.
I'm having an issue where Outlook clients in "Cached Mode" are missing random recipients from their offline address book.  These aren't just new users, but appear to be random.  A client in non-cached mode does not have this problem,
and OWA users do not either.  I can delete the offline address book from AppData folder, connect in cached mode, and before the book downloads, I see the missing entries.  However as soon as I download the address book, they disappear.
This is causing problems because users cannot Send As one of the missing recipients because they are not in the address book.  Another user sees in Outlook that "delivery will fail to these recipients" because they are not in his address book.
I've tried creating a new address book, scanning with OABValidate, etc.  OABValidate did find 10 errors out of close to 5000 users, but none of them are users that are missing in the address book.  Not sure where else the problem might be, it was
OK in Exchange 2007. Only difference was "Public Folder Distribution" was enabled.

Thanks for your suggestion.  I just tried this, and I do see many entries for users have properties truncated or dropped because they exceeded the size limits.  These users do still appear in the OAB.  However I am still not seeing at least
one of the particular users that I am looking for in the logs.  I'm not sure why they would be getting skipped from the OAB but are fine in the address list itself.
EDIT:  Another note, on an affected client which is in Cached mode, I can change from Global Address list to *All Users address list, and the missing users are there.
I came across this article, which is for 2003, but seems to describe my situation exactly.  However I don't see the missing users show up in logs when enabling the debugging as specified.

  • Random photos missing when I sync iPhone to MacBook Pro

I have had this issue for at least the last few months: when I sync my iPhone 5 with my MacBook Pro in order to import all the photos I have recently taken on my phone into iPhoto, only a portion of the photos I have recently taken are available to import.
Right now I have 160 new photos on my camera roll. When I plugged it in 20 mins ago, iPhoto offers me to 'import 45 photos'. I unplugged it and plugged it in again. Now it's only asking if I want to import 21 photos. I've tried turning it off and on again.
All photos appear in my photo stream, but only a portion will import as a new event. It's very boring because I don't want to have to go through photo stream to find my photos, I'd much prefer them to come through as events that I can now sort.
I am using iPhoto version 9.6, and my iPhone 5 is on version 8.1.3
I cannot find a solution to this on the internet, I'm really hoping someone out there can help!

The first test indicates that the original library is the culprit and needs to be repaired. Do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.
Redo the second test and see if you can upload all photos to a folder on then Desktop first.  If that's successful you can import them into the library.  iPhoto should detect any duplicates
    and prevent their import.

  • Photos Not Syncing; Photos Missing From Albums, No Error Message, Running iTunes for Windows & iOS 7.1.2

I am having an issue with syncing my photos on my iOS devices running iOS 7.1.2, the two being an iPhone 4s and iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G.
When I sync photos, I keep on having photos turn up missing from entire albums. I have tried everything I can to resolve this issue from the support article titled <a href="http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3697">iTunes: Unable to sync photos</a>, and nothing has successfully worked in any kind of permanent form. I have even gone so far as to sync albums individually with a limit of around 400-500 total photos per sync, (give or take), and tried using what very little options I have on the photos tab for my devices in iTunes to essentially trick the devices to sync the missing photos. Despite this, iTunes still fails to sync newly added photos from the source location.
I have even made the attempt of re-installing iOS 7 on both devices, and restoring from backup. Again with no avail.
My best guess for my iPhone is that as it is a 16 GB, not all of 15.6 GB of photos will sync to the device, (go figure), but that doesn't explain why recent photos aren't added OR why my iPad 2 of 64 GB has missing photos.
As of this post, I have an estimated 38,940 files, spread across 1,703 folders, (a large amount of folders being in some of the folders; from my knowledge never being more than two folders in). They are all in one dedicated folder on a hard drive I've dedicated to iTunes and music related files, (for the sake of AVOIDING this kind of nonsense, I might add).
As for the system OS and iTunes, I am running Windows 7 64 bit, and I am using iTunes 11.2.2.3, but will have updated to iTunes 11.3 by the time anyone responds.

I have the exact same problem.
Same kind of photos/videos taken with the same camera randomly sync.
    Did 11.3 fix this issue?
    Sincerely
