Physical/Logical

I have to use the EBS G/L module and the Inventory Module n a project.
What is the correct config?
Two Physical Schemas, Two Contexts, One Logical Schemas
Thanks,
Pr?

Hi
during my eBS experience i used this configuration
Physical
- 1 datastore EBS_SERVER user APPS/APPS
- 1 physical schema (APPS//APPS)
Context
- dev
- test
- pre-prod
- prod
Logical
- one server EBS
Remember than you could have same little issues with RKM Oracle (little bug with some synonims). You also need to use an RKM because standard Reverse doesn't read syn column! So reverse with custom and copy :d
You could also use more phy schema (ONT, OE, XXFN...), but under my opinion it was quite confusing. Using this approach you will resolve RKM issue BUT you'll need more models.

  • How to Create Primary DB and Physical/Logical Standby DB on the same host?

Now I encounter a issue. I want to create one Primary DB and one Physical standby DB and one Logical standby DB on the same host.
Create this env on the same host aims to test whether we can using EM Patching DP to apply patches on Primary/Physical/Logical DB successfully.
I try to setup this env but fails. I want to know more related issues about create Primary DB /Physical DB/Logical DB on the same host and how to configure between them.
    Below steps is my try:
    1. Create Primary DB on the /scratch/primary_db
    2. Create Physical Db software only on the /scratch/physical_db
    3. Create Logical Db software only on the /scratch/logical_db
    4. Using EM Wizard to create physical standby database and logical standby database, and these two targets can show up on the "All Targets" Page.
    5. But when using EM Patching DP, it fails and the reason is the listener of physical and logical db cannot configured well.
    Issues:
So I want to know about how to configure physical db and logical db's listener using EM or manually?
If the listener name of Primary Db is LISTENER and the port is 1521,and the listener.ora is under the /scratch/primary_db/network/admin directory, then how to config physical db and logical db's listener's name and port?

    Hi,
As this a test case then you need to create two more listener for each Oracle Home (/scratch/physical_db & /scratch/logical_db) make sure that they have different names and ports.
Then add the new listeners manually using GC?
Try it and let me know
    Regards

  • Physical/Logical model that implement oracle database

    Dear Forum's member,
I need documentation where I can see a grafical or a figure of the Physical/Logical relationship model that implement the Oracle object internally. It's not an specific example. It's about how oracle store the objects that it manage and are they related to the others.
    Best regards,
    José Guillén

I once used Erwin Design tool which can help in your task. I do not know if this is still around, since I used it in 2005.

  • Exporting & Importing Physical & Logical schemas, data servers, agents

    Hi,
    I am using ODI 10g.
I want to export Physical & Logical schemas, data servers, agents from my ODI test environment and to import them to ODI production environment.
My requirement is to do this export import through some scripts instead of doing it manually.
    Please guide for this.
    Thanks,
    Divya

    Hi Divya,
Personally i feel rather than exporting individual components/objects, its suggested to export master repository as such.
You can make use of ODI utility OdiExportMaster (under <ur package>->Tools->Oracle Data Integrator Objects) for exporting and Import Master Repository wizard (All Programs->Oracle-> Oracle Data Integrator->Repository Management-> Master Repository Import )for importing.
    Thanks,
    Guru.

  • Big number of files (physical + logical) opened by a SAP -related job

    Hello,
We are implementing SAP ECC 6.0 on IBM System i (iSeries) 9406-550, i5/OS V5R4.
SAP is implemented on sub-system R3_00, and the different SAP processes are served by OS/400 jobs : WP00, WP01, WP02,…etc.
The noticeable thing is that since the very beginning of the working day, the number of open files (Physical + Logical) opened by one job (e.g. WP00) is extremely big (900 – 1000 files), and it remains big during the whole day; i.e. it varies by a small extent.
The question is : is this a natural behavior of SAP, or is there something that we are missing that causes the un-necessary files to be closed after the relevant requirements are fulfilled.
The problem with the huge number of files opened by a job is that the big number of file  ODPs exhausts the memory extensively, the thing which causes the memory faults to be high, thus impacting negatively the system performance.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
    Best regards.

    Hi Reda,
that is exactly working as designed ....
Yes, the memory utilization is not too low because of that but on the other hand, it would be very expensive to close and open over and over again ...
So, you have to deal with this somehow.
The following is the default setting, that is active on your site as well: (You should be able to see these values in the dev_w0 etc ...)
    ODP Threshold:
    dbs/db4/odp_threshold     =          800
    ODP Commit Threshold:
    dbs/db4/odp_commit_threshold     =          810
    ODP Open Threshold:
    dbs/db4/odp_open_threshold     =          850
(This is true even when you experience 900-1200 - this is just a "mis-adding" more or less ...)
If you are really interested in: Try to change these parameters - but that is on your own risk, I do not have good experience with that ...

  • Configuration of the Physical & Logical standby servers on the same machine

I've encoutered a problem to connect to one of the standby servers .
I created a DataGuard in 10.2. Primary on 1 machine, 1 physical standby and 1 logical standby on another machine (both phy and logical in same machine)
I first created a primary then a physical standby. I've got no problem at all.
But when I created a logical standby server on the same machine with the physical then I could not connect to both phy and logical . I can connect to either one of them.
According to DataGuard setup, the db_name must be the same in primary and all standby servers. This is fine when each of the primary or the standby installed in a separate machine.
The db_name of the physical = rolex
The db_name of the logical = rolex
When we have more than one instance in the same machine, we just set the ORACLE_SID = db_name ( or instance), then connect to it.
If I connect to the physical, then I try to connect to the logical, it goes to the physical or vice versus.
Does anyone have the solution ?
    QN

DB_UNIQUE_NAME parameter will be the seperator.
give DB_UNIQUE_NAME parameters different names and set ORACLE_SID with DB_UNIQUE_NAME name you gave
DB_NAME is the primary instances database name DB_UNIQUE_NAME is given for standby instances database name

  • Two physical logical source formulas for on logical column

I have two fact tables :
    1. W_SERVICE_REQ_F(opened_dt_wid, assigned_dt_wid, closed_dt_wid, QUEUE_WID, SERVICE_REQ_WID): grain is one row per service request
    2. W_SERVICE_REQ_DAY_A(DATE_WID, QUEUE_WID, NUM_OPENED, NUM_CLOSED, num_assigned)
The goal is to answer NUM_OPENED, NUM_CLOSED per queue in a day and be able to drill-down to those service requests.

    Common_Date.row_wid = W_SERVICE_REQ_F (Opened_Dt).opened_dt_wid
    Common_Date.row_wid = W_SERVICE_REQ_F (Closed_Dt).closed_dt_wid

    SUM(W_SERVICE_REQ_DAY_A.NUM_CLOSED)
    COUNT("W_SERVICE_REQ_F (Closed_Dt)".SERVICE_REQ_WID)

    This is what I tried:
In # Opened Properites->Data Type, mapped it to both W_SERVICE_REQ_F (Closed_Dt).ROW_WID and W_SERVICE_REQ_DAY_A.NUM_CLOSED
In # Opened Properties->Aggregation tab, selected 'Default aggregation rule' as Count Distinct. In the bottom, Logical table sources override as follows:
    W_SERVICE_REQ_DAY_A : SUM("Fact - Service Request"."# Closed")
    W_SERVICE_REQ_F : COUNT("Fact - Service Request"."# Closed")

  • Data Services communication with SAP - physical/logical server name

Iu2019m having trouble connecting Data Services to SAP.
    Environment details:
Data Services version 12.2.1.2 on Windows 2008 SP2
ERP and SRM on Windows 2008 (database SQL Server 2008 SP1)
Repository on SQL Server 2008 SP1
All servers (SAP and Data Servers) have had logical systems defined over the physical system names and they use these logical names to communicate with each other.  The Data Services server, hence has two names (logical and physical) and two corresponding IP addresses.
The problem weu2019re having is that when the SAP server communicates back to the Job Server it needs to use the logical server name and corresponding IP address.  Currently it is using the physical server name and IP address, causing communication failures.
When I run the host_name() function within Data Services it returns the physical host name.
Is there a way to determine how Data Services identifies itself and whether this can be manipulated?  Is it possible to configure Data Services to run in a logical environment?
Any thoughts or commends would be appreciated. Thanks

Looked at this from another angle.  We were using Direct Download transport method which processes in the foreground and uses the SAPGUI for communication.  It seems as though it was how SAPGUI communicates with the SAP server on Data Services behalf that was causing the problem.
We managed to motivate to get a share setup between the SAP server and the Data Services box which allows us to use Shared Directory transport method.  This also allows for background processing - eliminating the part of the SAPGUI communication that was causing the problem.

  • Logical and Physical Standby Practice

    Hello Gurus
I am now attempting to practice Oracle Data Guard and in this direction I understand since 10g we have logical standby server as well as a physical standby server. While I am gathering information and knowledge about the data guard as is and varisous modes and types possible with oracle 10g and 11g in specific, an attempt to upgrade my self and learn these set-ups and understand them in detail.. I come to you for some guidence..
I am referring to Oracle Documentation for these details. At the same time I also approach you to share your experiences .. may be a link apart from the documentation of oracle which you might want to refer me to use as a quick reference.. some thing that a person like me .. fairly new to this set-up understand it and then attempt to come up with one..
This is for my practise and learning purpose.
    Sarat.

Logical Standby was already introduced in 9i. It differs from physical standby in the way, the redo protocol, transmitted from the primary, gets used to actualize the standby. With logical standby, you have SQL APPLY - basically, we try to generate the same SQL that was done on the primary from the redo protocol that was written on behalf of that SQL on the primary. That SQL then is done on the OPEN instance at the logical standby.
In case of a physical standby, the redo protocol from the primary is used to do RECOVERY - called REDO APPLY - to actualize the standby.
Since 10g, the sames protection levels can be achieved with logical or physical standby.
Drawback of logical standby: Not all kinds of SQL and all datatypes are supported
Drawback of physical standby: It is mounted (versions before 11g) while being recoverd - or in 11g, REDO APPLY in READ ONLY status is possible but comes with an extra charge (ACTIVE DATA GUARD feature).
If you look on my Blog, I have some examples about creating physical & logical standby DBs
    Kind regards

  • Local logical standby and remote physical standby

    Dear All,
My database version is 10.2.0.1.0(production) and Operating System Linux x86-64 OS Version Red Hat Enterprise 4
    Below is my configuration details:
    Rprimary Database:Two Nodes RAC
    StandBy Database LOCAL:Standalone database
    Standby Database Remote:Two Node RAC
So,my question is, i want my local physical DR to convert into logical standby and
Remote DR will operate as physical standby as it IS.
    sql>EXECUTE DBMS_LOGSTDBY.BUILD
After executing the above statement in my production primary database will there be any performance HIT.
And another important is that my above statement shouldn't affect my remote physical DR database.
Just the local DR should get converted into logical standby database
    Thanks and Regards

Monoj DasIn any Data Guard environment, you can have either physical or logical or even mixed[physical + logical]
There will be no performance issue if you run the package for logical standby DBMS_LOGSTDBY.BUILD , This package provides you to manage even logical standby database.

  • Can a physical standby propagate data to a logical standby?

Here is my situation. I have a RAC database that currently has a physical standby (also RAC cluster) for disaster recovery (DR) and I am about to create an additional logical standby for real-time reporting. My customer is asking if I can also create a logical standby for reporting that resides in the DR environment that would be available in a disaster. My question is can a physical standby propagate data to a logical standby? Is there any special configuration that would be required and what might it be if this is possible?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Welcome. Yes it's possible, example in 11.2 :
A cascading standby database can cascade primary database redo to up to 30 cascaded destinations, each of which can be a physical, logical, or snapshot standby database.

  • Why not physical backup be able to restore logical tables ?

DBA's are used to the perspective of physical & logical backups for a long time .
I wonder why should it not be able to do a logical restore a single table from a physical backup ? It will be great to have this possibility.
Is this is design constraint that can be changed by Oracle ?
    -Shekar

This is not a design constraint.
The physical backup is of all the physical components of a database which are interpreted by the server software to create the logical representation.
A physical backup is meant to be restored completely whereas a logical backup can be restored as of requirement.
It is not desirable to be able to restore a single table from physical backup as table is a logical representation of data. Till such time that the physical data is not interpreted by Server software it is just bytes on the disk.
So, if we want to restore a table from physical backup we will need a running instance to interpret the data and this will be more time consuming than having it extracted from a logical set.
If our system has not gone down and we want to restore the table just to a previous state, then (Oracle 10g) we can do it easily without taking the help of physical backups, through flashbacks.
These are my views, perhaps others can join in and we can discuss this out.
