Physical pc and virtual pc

Hi
I have a win 7 pc in a domain, i virtualized it, and used it normally on the domain, but after some time, when i booted the physical pc it couldn't logon to the domain, can someone tell me why? How can i have both running? do i need to register the virtual
pc with different name?
Thanks
James

It seems that both PCs (physical and virtual) are having the same AD account. In this case, when the virtual machine changed the computer AD account password then the physical machine was not able to login as it does not know the new password.
To fix that, you can simply disjoin the physical machine from the AD domain, rename it and join it back.
I would recommend using solutions that run sysprep before capturing the image and then deploy it (Example: SCCM) as they avoid having similar problems.

  • How to Install Physical and Virtual Host

I am getting licensing issues after I installed Essentials 2012R2 on a physical machine and then used the same license to virtualize it.  It's saying my physical machine needs to hold all the FSMO roles in which my virtual machine is hosting those roles.
I read that Microsoft allows you to use the Essentials license for the physical and virtual server.  Is that correct?
Is there a specific service I need to remove on the physical machine in order for these errors to stop?  I still have the Windows Server Essentials Experience service installed. Is that what needs to be removed?
    Thanks,
    Doug

    Hi Doug,
There is an article that provide details of licensing for Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials. Please refer to and check if can help us to understand licensing for Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials better.

  • Best way to migrate existing XP SP3 partition to a virtual machine to run via Windows 8.1 as physical partition and not a vhd?

Hi I have a current XP SP3 setup have been using in a dual boot with Windows 8.1(on separate partitions on different hard drives - I think these are SATA drives)  but now am thinking of migrating my XP partition preferably as a live virtual machine
to be run as a guest via Windows 8.1 as host so I don't have to do the rebooting.  Also prefer this to making a VHD of my XP so can use the existing partition allocated for it rather than taking up extra space as VHD on my windows 8 (and don't want yet
to replace my xp dual boot in case it does not work so well as vhd, as I have a lot of old educational programs my kids still use on it that I don't really want to put onto my W8.1).  Will also save time if I don't have to convert it to VHD first.  I
also do not want to reinstall a new XP Sp3 virtual machine from scratch for same reason - will take too long to resetup -just use existing as is.
I have used VMWare player and Virtual Box in past with an old 98SE system as a virtual VHD/VPC file but VMWare workstation is paid which may be the one I need to use a physical partition but I prefer to try freeware options first.
Will Hyper-V in Windows 8.1 (I have retail PRO version of both my XP and Windows 8.1) be able to do the same as VMWare workstation?  OR is there another option to run the physical XP?
The other thing with my XP setup is that the user profiles that people login with are located on a different partition E (80GB) to my XP which is on J (100GB) and most of the programs for it run from partition D (over 120GB) and the XP boot loader resides
on a partition C (2GB) (which is not the Windows8.1 partition which becomes C only when it boots, but this C drive for XP may also be having the Windows 8 boot loader and files for that -using EasyBCD to handle boot menu of W7 type boot loader).
So I need a system that can mount these other physical partitions also alongside with my XP partition when it boots up.
So what are my options for running this XP SP3 setup via Windows 8 as a guest operating system?
Also will doing this be likely to require reactivation of my existing windows XP (retail) which means I cannot then use it again if I go back to the XP dual boot at times or in case the VM setup does not work?
Also do I need to change my XP first so that it boots off its own drive rather than the C partition - and how do I set this up then using EasyBCD or windows boot repair?

HI I found I had to make physical disk offline to use in Hyper-V which I cannot do and do not want to do with all partitions - cannot choose just ones want.
So now am trying to make VM of my physical XP -and other partitions neeeded but D partition is over 127Gb so cannot use Disk2VHD.
Here is what am trying now - any other suggestions for alternate software to vmware convertor/disk2VHD maybe to do partitions over 127GB?  I have posted also at VMware forums but no answer as yet.
Advice on doing a physical XPSP3 conversion to a VM for Virtual box and hyper-v ultimately
Hi I need advice as to best way to convert an existing XP Sp3 install on a physical hard drive along with other related partitions to a Virtual box VM image with aim to convert that VM image to a Hyper-V VM for use with Windows 8.1 host.
I have several C (boot ini partition), D programs, E Data, etc partitions and a current dual boot with an extra XP install I use as a backup system.
My main XP is on J drive and other XP on I drive with C drive boot ini that switches btw 2 with J set as default.
I have a D partition that is over 127 Gb so cannot use Disk2VHD which would have been easier, and it seems there is not a way to make a direct Hyper-V VM from converter but only Vmware VM?
I do not have or want to purchase as yet VMware Workstation as have W8.1 Pro that can use Hyper-V to run my XP SP3.
I seem to also have an issue with COM+ corrupted on my machine XP J drive ( It tried to reinstall the COM+ but my es.dll file won't register and I did get a failed conversion with converter when tried earlier at 94% saying VSS snapshots have
reached their limit).  I think this is related to my COM+ issue which I am not sure now how to fix apart from repair install of my Xp (as I have tried repairing COM with various articles searched on google to no avail) which I may do first before
retry conversion.  However my ALT XP on I drive seems to be fine with being able to browse the COM+ applications ok.  SO maybe I  can use that instead but it is the J drive XP I want the most (not sure if will work at reboot if I do not
    hot clone it?)
I have read also the manual for converter 5.5.1 ver standalone and am not sure of a few things so if someone can guide me it would be very much appreciated.
First of all which version VM should I make image of  if I later want to convert it to a Hyper-V VM image (I only have free Virtual Box latest ver, VMware Player and Hyper-V on Windows 8.1 PRo) ie: VMware workstation 10 or Vmware Player 6 or lower
ver or other?  OR is there another software I should install for the conversion or later conversion to Hyper-V?  I prefer to use Hyper-V over Virtual Box and Vmware Player if possible, but should these others work just as well for my Xp Sp3 existing
system as a VM in Windows 8.1?  Please advise which you think is best of these?
Should I leave all configuration options off while converting and even XP licence, workgroup etc or is it most likely that I will have to reactivate my XP (retail ver) once I reboot in the VM although I am putting to run on Windows 8.1 host on exact same
hardware as my current XP in dual boot (replacing my physical copies which I don't intend to use after conversion)?  Can I enter licence etc later as well?
I currently have 8 GB ram total -should I leave Xp one at max it suggests of around 3Gb ram?
I have Quad core processor -but should I make Xp Vm one dual core for when it runs on W8.1 host to allow the host some processors so can run at same time or leaving my Xp at quad core will be ok?
Network - I want to use host one as I read it is safer for obsolete XP so do I set that at start or is it better to change this later too -allowing xp to have own internet access (maybe as may need to reactivate also - don't want to call Microsoft
    if can avoid it)?
If I just want to convert resulting VM to Hyper-V VM -which software to use after for this that is freeware (Virtual Box or VMware Player or Hyper-V -not sure which can do it) and do I not then install Vmware tools?
SYSPprep should I do anyway regardless of what target VM will be when configuring later, even if on same hardware machine? OR can I just boot Vm and see if boots ok first?
Anything else I should set specifically for this future use of the VM image in hyper-v?

  • Difference between logical and virtual terms

    Hello,
This is not purely oracle question; but in documentation so many times we find 2 terms:
    A. Logical
    B.Virtual.
So what is the principle difference between logical and virtual? As I know physical is that which I can see and touch; while logical/virtual is that is imaginary. We say tablespace is logical not virtual; while Java Virtual Machine; not Java Logical Machine. So I want to know; what is the principle difference; why two words for an imaginary thing. Before posting question; I searched in google as “Difference between virtual and logical” but I couldn’t found the answer.
    Please quote your comments.
    Thanks & Kind Regards
    Girish Sharma

    Girish,
I wont say that I am correcting you as this is like that half glass full/empty thing.May be what I see is half empty , you would see the same as half full.
Well now coming to the explanation.I am saying honestly , I got more confused after reading your definitions. What do you mean by saing that tablespace is not virtual.I see it as purely virtual. We don't say it as virtual tablespace or logical tablespace but it is actualy logical/virtual, having no existance but just the definition right?
How can you say that the size of virtual is larger than logcial? The size of tablespace is actualy the sum total of size of datafiles. So it actualy becomes very larger right?Much larger than JVM which is of few megs only.
The point 3 totally knocked me out.I have no idea what you said.
Ok I tell you this.Just remember the definition that Hans gave already. If you ask me than its the best definition that we can have. Just remember this and if some one asks you more further than give them your point 3 definition and tell them understand this ;-).Please don'tmind I am just kidding. Its just semantics.Don't get lost into it.You will find many people using both the terms interchangibly. So its ok.I shall stick with Hans's defintion, simple and concise. There are lot more other topics to dig upon in oracle.I can mail you lots of them.Spend time on those.Don't think that I am demotivating you.I understand you asked only because you have a doubt. But we got a good resolution of it and beyond that, its not of much use to dig it atleast not in the technial terms.
    Cheers

  • High Resident and Virtual memory for DBWR

    Hello All
on 64 bit RHEL5 with physical memory of 98gb.
I see in OEM db console for 11gR2 database that dbwr processes is consuming 21gb of Resident and Virtual memory.
There are 3 dbwr processes (all using 21g) running and i see swapping happens even there is not much load on database .
Is it normal for dbwr to allocate such high memory ?
    other memory config
    sga_max_size big integer 60G
    sga_target big integer 39808M

    That is an excellent document.
The one thing you have to remember when looking at memory usage of Oracle processes, is they all attach to the same set of shared memory so your values will look high. For example if you assume your sid is XE and run the following command you can get something like this.

Notice how my virtual size is all close to 875Mb for each process more than available with ram and swap space. That is because they all attach to my SGA thus the OS reports the SGA in it's memory listing.

  • Create image server operating system with Hyper-V and virtual machines

    Friends,
Need to replicate the environment they currently have, but wanted to optimize this operation by creating an image of windows server with Hyper-V and virtual servers already installed, what tool do I use? Can someone guide ???
    Dreyher

I recommend you separate the task of protecting the host from the task of protecting the guest VMs.
By "replicate the environment", do you mean backup the VMs in a recoverable state? or do you intend on migrating the VMs to another environment like another physical location? How much down time can you tolerate if any?
To backup the VMs use a VSS based backup solution. There's plenty out there, including Windows Server backup, Altaro, DPM, Veeam, and many more. This does not require installing agent on any of the VMs, and will not down the VMs during backup. Here's an
example Powershell script to backup all VMs on the local host:
    Install-WindowsFeature -Name Windows-Server-Backup
    $BackupTarget = "\\server\share"
    $WbTarget = New-WBBackupTarget -NetworkPath $BackupTarget
    $WBPolicy = New-WBPolicy
    Add-WBBackupTarget -Policy $WBPolicy -Target $WbTarget
Add-WBVirtualMachine -Policy $WBPolicy -VirtualMachine (Get-WBVirtualMachine) # Add all VMs on localhost
    Start-WBBackup -Policy $WBPolicy -Async
If the intent is VM migration from one location to another, there are plenty of tools to do so with minimal or no down time. Just bing it..

  • Extending Physical Cluster into Virtual Cluster

Hello All...........I have a Physical SQL Cluster cluster.domain.com (Physical_NodeA and
Physical_NodeB) using SAN A.  Physical SQL Cluster contains
three-3 instances.  I intend to move this cluster into my Hyper-V Failover Cluster enviornment and I want to get rid of both Physical nodes (Physical_NodeA and
Physical_NodeB) along with shared storage on SAN A.  I have devised following approach:
    -  Extend existing Physical Cluster cluster.domain.com on
(Physical_NodeA and Physical_NobeB) with shared storage
    SAN A
        - By adding Virtual Nodes (Virtual_NodeC and
    Virtual_NodeD) to cluster.domain.com
    - Creating LUN/s that are shared by all four nodes (Physical_NodeA, Physical_NodeB, Virtual_NodeC and Virtual NodeD) on
    SAN B
    - Moving Instances/Databases location to new LUN/s on
    SAN B
    - Failover to new Virtual Nodes either Virtual_NodeC or
    Virtual_NodeD
    - Evict Physical_NodeA and Physical_NodeB
    - Remove Physical_NodeA and Physical_NodeB from Host Group at
    SAN A
    - Remove LUN/s from SAN A.
Your thought on above procedure would be appreciated.

I am not sure why you want to do all of these.
Why cant you just get the new virtual environment up and running with SQL Server and just migrate the databases to the new cluster?
I think the amount of downtime you incur would be less in this approach.

  • Components and virtual directories.

    CF8hf3, W2K3, IIS.
    Site1\application.cfc (-> this.name = "site1";)
    Site1\Components\MyComponent.cfm
    Site1\UseComponentToShowSiteNameOnSite1.cfm
    Site2\application.cfc (-> this.name = "site2";)
Site2\Components ... this is an IIS virtual directory that
    points to Site1\Components
    Site2\UseComponentToShowSiteNameOnSite2.cfm
    Problem #1
Create this cfc and place it in \Site1\Components. The
virtual directory makes it available to site2 as well. The website
root for the site containing the virtual directory has a different
application.cfc than the website that has this test component in
    it's physical structure.
    <cfcomponent displayname="test component">
    <cffunction name="TestFunction" output="No"
    returntype="string" access="remote">
    <cfreturn application.applicationname>
    </cffunction>
    </cfcomponent>
If this component is called directly:
    http://site2/Components/test.cfc?method=testfunction
it returns the applicationname for site1, however, when used
    like so:
    <cfoutput>
    #createobject("Component",
    "site2.Components.Test").TestFunction()#
    </cfoutput>
    it returns site2.
    Problem #2
A CFGrid tag on site2 with this bind attribute:
    bind="cfc:site2.Components.Test.TestFunction({cfgridpage}...
generates this js in the rendered page:
    ColdFusion.Bind.cfcBindHandler(<snip>...
    :_cf_grid_errorhandler,'cfc':'/site1/Components/test.cfc','cfcFunction':'TestFunction'
    ...<snip>
On both occasions it appears the cf server traverses the
physical path and uses that to resolve Application.cfc which is
different behavior than any other processed file.
    Thanks!

Yep, exactly as it explains it will in the documentation on
Application.cfm and Application.cfc files. CF looks for these
    in the
physical path, not the virtural path of the directory.
This is a big reason most CF developers will tout that a
    component
should only know what is passed to it is arguments. Expecting
    it to
'know' something such as what application it is in, or what
    is in the
session scope and such will experience problems just like
    this.
Want to see what a bigger headache this could be. Set some
    session data
in each site1 and site2 that is different and then check the
    results
with the same kind of testing.

*How ColdFusion MX finds and process application definition
    pages*
ColdFusion MX uses the following rules to locate and process
    the
    Application.cfc, Application.cfm, and OnRequestEnd.cfm pages
    that define
application-specific elements. The way ColdFusion MX locates
    these files
helps determine how you structure an application.
Each time ColdFusion MX processes a page request it does the
    following:
When ColdFusion starts processing the request, it does the
    following:
It searches the page’s directory for a file named
    Application.cfc. If
one exists, it creates a new instance of the CFC, processes
    the initial
events, and stops searching. (ColdFusion MX creates a new
    instance of
the CFC and processes its initialization code for each
    request.)
If the requested page’s directory does not have an
    Application.cfc file,
it checks the directory for an Application.cfm file. If one
    exists,
ColdFusion MX logically includes the Application.cfm page at
    the
beginning of the requested page and stops searching further.
If the requested page’s directory does not have an
    Application.cfc or
Application.cfm file, *ColdFusion MX searches up the
    directory tree and
checks each directory first for an Application.cfc file and
    then, if one
is not found, for an Application.cfm page, until it reaches
    the root
directory (such as C:\).* When it finds an Application.cfc or
Application.cfm file, it processes the page and stops
    searching.

  • Physical Address to Virtual address

    Hi all,
Are there any DDI/DKI API's to convert physical address to virtual address and vice versa. If there are no API's available is there any other way/method to achive this.
    Regards and Thanx in advance
    Pradeep

in general, you're not supposed to need to do that, although hat_getpkfnum will work. If you are trying to use dma, it is better to use the dma functions such as ddi_dma_alloc_handle with ddi_dma_mem_alloc and ddi_dma_addr_bind_handle, or dvma_kaddr_load.

  • Physical cpu to virtual cpu ratio for LYNC 2013 FE

    what
should be the physical cpu to virtual cpu ratio for LYNC 2013 FE and Edge server, it is same like exchange 1:1 ?

    Putting this here as well:
I don't believe this is documented anywhere.   I typically see 6 cores, but I've run with 4 or 8 but in the end it's all about watching performance.
System Center Advisory for Lync can complain if it's not at least 8.

  • 2012 essentials r2: how to "manually" set up host and virtualized 2012e r2?

So 2012e r2 is supposed to make it easier to setup a virtualized server.
How do we set this up? Found this for OEM partners, but looking for "manual setup" directions:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/341bd905-1d99-4e3d-af16-04aadf9e9ab9/installing-windows-server-2012-essentials-r2-hyperv-role
Can one manually install hyper-v on essentials then setup VM, and then remove some roles to get back to a leaner host? I'd like to set this up manually and add particular drivers and Intel RST management, then remove roles
    thanks

OK thanks!  Now some other questions:
    1.  From what I have been able to determine, if I install Essentials as the DC and root of the domain/forest, I don't need to have CALS for up to 25 users and up to 50 devices (which I assume are other member servers?). I don't want to deal with CALS
and I have only about 15 users, but I have 3 to 5 servers, so this is what I think I want to do, install 2012 R2 Essentials as the DC and root of the domain. Am I right about the CAL issue, that I won't need them for member servers?
    2.  I am migrating from SBS2008, and on the one SBS2008 server I have Exchange 2007 and SharePoint w/Companyweb.  I understand that I cannot install Exchange 2013 on the DC, and also that I have to do something with Sharepoint which also does not
come with Essentials.  So the question becomes whether to try to install these on VM's or to move them to member servers.  I've read a lot about using Essentials on VM, but it seems with only one VM I cannot install Essentials/Hyper V on the
physical server, and then install Essentials on VM1, and there is no other VM available for Exchange & SharePoint.  But then there is the suggestion in some forum responses to put Essentials as the VM1 of the 2012 R2 Std server, then put Exchange
& Sharepoint on VM2.  If this is done, does the Essentials on VM1 still operate like the DC/root of domain and eliminate the need for CALS or does this all change because it is residing on a 2012 R2 Standard physical server? Without CALS, how would
you log into the physical server to start up the VM1 w/Essentials?
    3. With all this in consideration, maybe this is all just too complicated to recreate all the functions of SBS2008 on one physical server?  Could I not just install Essentials and SharePoint on the physical server used as the DC and root of domain and
then on a 2012 R2 member server install Exchange 2013. I can see now after going through the migration from SBS2003 to SBS2008 that having Exchange on it's own server will make upgrades in the future a lot easier.

  • DBAcockpit and virtual hostnames

Hi,  I have setup DBAcockpit to Solution Manager for monitoring Oracle databases in SAP landscape.  Now the problem is
that I would like to run maintenance jobs and backups via DB13/DB13C.  We have two MSCS-clustered environments with
several SAP installations in one cluster.
Oracle databases has virtual hostnames (dbhost) in cluster but when registered to DBAcockpit it will get the cluster node physical
hostname.  I have tried to change the name to virtual on the DBAcockpit table but it will revert back.
So the SAPXPG_DBDEST_<hostname> will have name of the physical hostname and I can run brtools only to one database
because I need specify right gateway information. If I would like to use DB13 to another database running on same cluster
node I have to manually change the gateway information to pointing that database.
This would be easy to configure if DBAcockpit would understand virtual hostnames and SAPXPG_DBDEST_<virtual_hostname>
connections could be created to every database in cluster.
Any ideas how this could be done?

    Hello Jari,
I noticed this problem too, unfortunately your message wasn't answered. And as you may have noticed, Thomas's procedure doesn't work. Eventually I found a colleague who explained to me that you need to modify the generated TCP/IP RFCs for the cluster (SAPXPG_DBDEST_<physical host>) so that the target host uses the logical host name. You'll still see the physical host name in DBACOCKPIT, but at least the tool will work.
Also, the brconnect will fail if the SCS and database are on opposite sides of the cluster, since the gateway will try to connect to the database on the local host (you could create another stand-alone gateway for the database group, but since only brtools are affected by this, it isn't really worth it).
    Regards,
    Sean

  • Number of physical cpus and RAM available

    on my solaris 10 machine.
    Thanks in advance

The psrinfo command shows all virtual CPU's (likes cores, threads, ...), not the real CPU count.

  • What is the difference between "Invisible" (11g) and "virtual" index?

    Hi
What is the difference between the "Invisible" index and "virtual" index?
    Thanks
    Balaji

Indexes can be visible or invisible. An invisible index is maintained by DML operations and cannot be used by the optimizer. Actually takes space, but is not to be used as part of a potential access path.
AFAIK, a virtual index is created by the tools used in SQL statement access path tuning to provide an alternative for the optimizer to test. It does not take any real space as it is a pure in memory definition.

You need the hardware remote.  You can not enable the remote app without it.  You can buy a replacement for $20.
