PL/SQL Procedure does not return at end of routine

Hi All,
I am in the midst of migrating data for a client. To migrate the data I have written a PL/SQL Block which based on the logic has several loops in the same. As I got the new application DB design I introduced more code to capture the data for the new tables.
The problem now is that after having finalised all the code when I run the script it does not come out and after some time I get ORA 3113 and Host def undefined error.
The data is huge . The main table contains about 17000 records but other child tables can reach up 400000 records.
I am running this in my Dev database.

undefined error. Do you get the same error with less data, like 2 rows only? Maybe you just hit a network timeout. Ora-3113 could be everything really.

400000 records. Not huge. More than a school/homework project. Big would be like 1 Mill+, huge more like 50 Mill.

  • Report with Stored Procedure does not return until refresh

I'm using RAS server 2008 to run many Crystal reports from a web application (TrackWise) over Oracle 10g DB.
A new report is using a stored procedure that takes several minutes (5-10) to return before the rest of the report's SQL can execute.
When running the report from Crystal Developer there is no problem,
but when running from the application (using the RAS), the report seems to be running forever,
However, if you wait a few minutes for the DB utilization to drop (i.e. for the stored procedure to finish) and refresh - the full report appears on the screen in a second.
Since I have many other reports that run for much longer time with no issue, I assume that this has nothing to do with the web application, but rather related to the connection between the RAS and the DB (i.e. the idle time between the beginning of the stored procedure execution to its return and the continuation of the report creation).
I assume that I need to change one of the RAS settings/ parameters (in the properties or in the registry), but which?
    Please assist.

Since this app is from TrackWise, I'd recommend contacting TrackWise and see if they have an answer for you. As it is, we have no idea how they implemented the CR components in their app. If they cannot help you, it should be them coming here and asking us - or better yet they should be creating a phone incident.

  • SQL Developer bug? It does not return DATEs if database is only MOUNTED

I'm logging into a mounted database as SYS to check on things using the V$ views, but any query I do involving DATEs never returns any data. If I remove the DATE column, the query works fine. If the database is OPEN, the query works fine with the DATEs. This is a bit of a problem when I want to check on standby databases for example. Is this the way it's supposed to work?
    Help!

The original thread appeared to have gone nowhere, so I raised the issue again. If I have violated forum rules, please forgive me.
I have a choice of using either TOAD or SQL Developer at the site that I have just started at, and I have not used either much. I was leaning towards SQL Developer as its price to functionality ratio is very attractive. However, this issue of not working with a mounted database is a show stopper for me for SQL Developer as I prefer to use a single tool that handles all of the DBA work that I do. So far, TOAD does, and SQL Developer does not.

  • [Solved] ADF - Update does not return values generated by a trigger

    Hello,
    I'm using JDev 10.1.3.3.0 and DB 10.2.0.3.0.
On DB I've created a table, a sequence and a trigger:
    CREATE TABLE TAB1
         ID          NUMBER          PRIMARY KEY,
         EDITED_AT     DATE,
         VALUE          VARCHAR2(64)
    CREATE SEQUENCE S_TAB1
         INCREMENT BY 1
         START WITH 1;
    CREATE TRIGGER T_TAB1_BIE
BEFORE INSERT OR UPDATE ON TAB1
    FOR EACH ROW
    BEGIN
         IF INSERTING THEN
              SELECT S_TAB1.NEXTVAL INTO :NEW.ID FROM DUAL;
         END IF;
         :NEW.EDITED_AT := SYSDATE;
    END;
    /In JDev I've created an EO - Tab1, a VO - Tab1View and an AppModule.
In the EO Tab1 I have checked "Refresh After Insert" and "Refresh After Update" for Id and Edited_By attributes. I made the latter two attribures as "Never" updatable.
Then I test the AppModule with a JDev Tester (I use a connection which connects as an owner of the 3 objects above).
Then I insert a new row and enter a value into the Value field in the Tester. When I press Commit button everything works great - Id and Edited_By attributes get populated with values generated by the trigger.
But when I try to update the Value field and press Commit the Edited_By field does not retreives new value that was generated by the trigger.
    Why does this happens?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Yerzhan.

    Frank,
I tried to set Refresh option on both, Value and Edited_At, fields but unsuccessfully.
Then I tried to do the following in SQL Plus:

Frank, maybe the issue is in the Oracle DB?

    Regards,
    Yerzhan.

you need to explicitly include the column in your UPDATE statement SET clause that you expect to return the result you want it to be. here's what i think what happened even though you have a trigger the first statement that was processed was your update statement. at the time of the update it has to return the current values to the returning clause that is the values on the table. now comes next the trigger which gives edited_at column a new value. when the trigger got fired the process don't return anymore to the UPDATE RETURNING statement. it's like each sequence of codes does not executes in parallel.

  • Stored Procedure Does Not Run Properly When Called From Portlet

We have a simple Java portlet that calls a PL/SQL stored procedure which we wrote. The stored procedure sends a large number of emails to users in our corporation using the "utl_smtp" package. The stored procedure returns a count of the emails back to the Java portlet when it's finished. This number is displayed in the portlet.
    Our problem:
The stored procedure functions as expected when run from a PL/SQL block in SQL*Plus, and the Java portlet calls the procedure properly when sending out a smaller number of emails (Less than 200 usually). When we get into a higher number of emails the procedure hangs when called from the portlet, but it STILL functions properly from SQL*Plus. It does not return the number of emails sent
and the Java portlet is unable to return a SQLException. Also, we have noticed that emails are sent at a much slower pace from the stored procedure when it's called from the portlet.

    Any Ideas?

  • Can't Create a Data Source - Failed to test connection. [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied

    Hi there,
I am having a serious issue with The Power BI Data Management Gateway which I am hoping that someone can help me with.
Basically I am setting a connection between a Power BI demo site and a SQL 2012 Database based on Azure. The Data Management Gateway and is up and running, and Power BI has managed to connect to it successfuly.
    By following the tutorials at
here I was able to successful create my Data Connection Gateway with a self-signed certificate.
However, when trying to create the data source I come into problems. The Data Source Manager manages to successfully resolve the hostname, as per the screenshot below:
Bear in mind that I exposed the require ports in Azure as endpoints and I managed to modify my hosts file on my local machine so I could access the SQL server hosted in Azure using its internal name -- otherwise I would not be able to get this far.
However the creation of the data source also fails when trying to created it whilst logged in the SQL server in question:
The Data Source Manager returns the error when using the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server:
Failed to test connection. [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied
I tried using the SQL Server Native Client 11.0 instead but I also get an error. This time the error is:
Failed to test connection. Login timeout expiredA network-related or instance-specific error has occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. Server is not found or not accessible. Check if instance name is correct and if SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. For more information see SQL Server Books Online.Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [53].
    Some considerations
If I provide an invalid username/password, the Data Source Manager does say that the username and password is incorrect.
Firewall is turned off in the SQL Server (either way, this error also happens if I try top use the Data Source Manager whilst logged in the SQL Server itself).
SQL Profiler does not show any attempt of connection.
The SQL server instance in question is the default one.
The error happens regardless if I select the option to encrypt connection or not.
In SQL Configuration manager I can see that all protocols are enabled (TCP/IP, Named Pipes and Shared Memory.
The Event Viewer does not provide any further errors than the one I have copied in this post.
I'm at a loss here. Could someone please advise what might I be doing wrong?
    Regards,
    P.

Here is what I had to do to solve this issue:
Basically I had to add the MSSQL TCP/IP port as an end-point in Azure. After I did that, then I was able to create the data-source. However, I was only able to authenticate with a SQL account, as any domain account would return me an error saying that the
    domain isn't trusted.
What puzzles me here is how come the Data Source Manager would inform me that an account username/password was invalid, but it would fail/timeout if I provided valid credentials (!?!?!!?)

    bgt

    This one's strange indeed.
I can reproduce on 10.2.0.4 and one of the following seems to fix it :
    1) Specifying the column list in the SELECT, instead of t.* :
-- Select layers with TileMatrixSet EPSG:28992
       cursor c_layer(p_xml xmltype) is
          select t.title, t.format, t.style
            from xmltable(or,
    2) Using an extended FLWOR expression :
    for $d in //Layer
    where $d/TileMatrixSetLink/TileMatrixSet = "EPSG:28992"
return $dMaybe you've already noticed but the problem only occurs within a PL/SQL context.
The same query run from SQL is OK.

  • SQL Join does not join

    Hi everyone,
I have a little issue with an SQL statement. I have found a problem to my query and it's just because I want to understand that I post...
i would like to transform this query to the same using ANSI syntax (outer joins) but I don't find the solution.
    SELECT pa.user_id,
           pa.nom_complet_np,
           pa.organisation,
           pa.directory,
           group_2.i_supergroups_names
    FROM pa pa
INNER JOIN user user ON (pa.user_id = user.user_name)
         LEFT OUTER JOIN group group_r_1 ON (group_r_1.users_names = user.user_name)
         INNER JOIN group group_2 ON (group_2.object_id = group_r_1.object_id
                                    AND group_2.i_supergroups_names = 'profile')
    WHERE directory = 'MAIN'
      AND user.usertate = 0
ORDER BY user_id;The previous query does not return the correct value.
    SELECT pa.user_id,
           pa.nom_complet_np,
           pa.organisation,
           pa.directory,
           (SELECT DISTINCT gr2.i_supergroups_names as group_name
    FROM group gr1
         INNER JOIN group gr2 ON (gr2.object_id = gr1.object_id
                                                AND gr2.i_supergroups_names is not NULL)
    WHERE gr1.users_names = user.user_name
      AND gr2.i_supergroups_names = 'profile')
    FROM hermcomp_ref.pa pa
INNER JOIN user user ON (pa.user_id = user.user_name)
    WHERE DG = 'MAIN'
      AND user.usertate = 0
ORDER BY user_id;But this one, does. But it's the same one using a SELECT instead of a JOIN... So I'm a little confused and I don't understand! Can anyone tell me where I'm wrong?
    Thanks,

    user13117585 wrote:
Thanks Sven, but can you tell me what is the differences between the 2 queries I did. They should be the same. No?No.
    Didn't you notice that yourself?
    user13117585 wrote:

But this one, does. That proves they are not equivalent.
The query that produces the results you want does the self-join on group first, then the results are incoprporated into the other results as a scalar sub-query in the SELECT clause. Nothing that goes on in the SELECT clause can change the number of rows in the result set.
The query that does not get the results you want does an outer-join with one copy of group, and then does an inner join with the other copy of group. An inner join can change the number of rows in the result set.
Whether you do the inner join or the outer join first does matter, just like it matters whether you do the addition or the multiplication first in
    2 + 1 * 0
By the way, GROUP and USER and not good names for tables. Make up names that are not already keywords in Oracle, or built-in functions. Names that end in "_tbl" (e.g., group_tbl and user_tbl) should be okay.

  • CQWP does not return result for a specific query when filtering on a managed metadata field.

    Hi,
We are facing a serious production issue. We've search the web extensively but to no avail.
    Problem:
CQWP does not return result for a specific query when filtering on a managed metadata field.
    ULS log:
The Uls logs provides 3 different messages that I could relate to every time the query is executed. The last item(level Medium) is displayed 14 times. For readability I've moved the ULS logs to the bottom of this question.
    Query:
    The query is as follows:
(I've translated this from dutch so pardon any typo's)
Query: (top selection) Display items from all sites in the site collection
    ListType: Documentlibrary
    Contenttype:
Items from this group:Custom Document Contenttypes
Items from this content type: Verklaring
Filter: Soort is equal to X
extra info: the field soort (Type) is a managed metadata field that was assigned the value X
    Managed Metadata Structure:
    -managed metadata service
      -Contoso
        -Enterprise Taxonomy (term set)
          -Document (term)
            -Verklaring (term)
              -Soort (term)
                -x (term)
    EXTRA INFO:
When I modify the filter to filter on Title the CQWP DOES return the correct document!
When I modify the query settings to search a specific library the CWQP also does return the correct document! (In this case I am filtering on a managed metadata field).
    QUESTION:
Why doesn't the CQWP return the document when filtering on a managed metadata field over the entire site collection.
Why does the CQWP return the document when filtering on a managed metadata field over a single library.
(The type of information the CQWP should return (Soort:x) is stored in a dozen document libraries!)
    Here are the ULS logs.

    Hi,
while digging through the logging (again) I found some extra logging regarding the same correlation id (see details below).
We have a fairly large term store (4000+ lines).
If somebody has a clue or tip that would greatly appreciated!

Then for data flow task also you need to put it inside a ForEachLoop based on ADO.NET recordset and map your earlier variable inside it so as to iterate for every value the sql task returns.
Also if using SP in oledb source make sure you read this
