Placement of .class files

I am trying to run that contact samples app that you can
download and run and follow the walkthrough instructions. Problem
is I am getting a compile error, because the line:
import samples.contact.Contact; says it cannot find that java
class.
I am running apache tomcat 5.5 and I got another FLEX/POJO
java app working before. That java piece which used the
destinations setup in remoting-config.xml had those java classes
in:
C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat
5.5\webapps\flex\WEB-INF\classes
I placed these new java classes, following the package
structure into that same directory and with my new FDS project they
dont work. I get an error.
I have tried putting the files into a folder in the project
and that does not work either. And the documentation is pretty
pathetic, when discussing the samples apps.
Any guidance would be helpful.

In your Java project you'll need to make sure that your
classes directory is included in your build path. This is Java and
Eclipse JDT specific so check the Eclipse docs/forums for more
details if necessary.

Include rt.jar class files in my own jar file to run 1.2+ applets on MS JVM

My problem is this. I'm writing an applet (which includes 1.2 classes) for my organization (over 2000 NT workstations) in which no one has administrative privelages to install Sun's JRE 1.2 or greater. The target browser is IE 5. Our NT admins are having problems pushing the JRE out so my only two options are to rewrite everything as 1.1 or somehow include the missing class files from rt.jar.
I really do not want to rewrite it all!
I was able to extract the missing class files (i.e. /java/util/HashMap.class) but I cannot figure out how to get the IE JVM to use them. Things I have tried:
1. jarred up all my class files along with the missing classes from rt.jar.

If anyone has done this before or knows how to do it, please help me out.

When the collection classes first came out, I think they were available in a separate jar (although the package name may be slightly different). If it's just collection classes, that might be worthwhile looking at.
The MS JVM may be spewing because the class format is too new; you may try with rt.jar classes from an older JVM (such as JDK 1.2), or try to recompile them from source using -target 1.1.

Placing class files for servlets in j2ee

i am new to java servlets. i recently installed j2ee v1.4 sdk. i have gotten my first file that imports packages to compile. i now need a path to place .class files and .jar files. everyone says web-inf/classes and web/lib. due to the directory structure paths are so long. can someone give me the right path in j2ee v1.4 (C:\Sun\Appserver) to place these .class files and .jar files. if there is anything else i need to do before i can run a servlet, please inform me. i just want to run this silly helloWorld servlet. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What you have heard is correct - you need to place your class files in the WEB-INF's classes directory (or jar files in the lib directory).
To give you a little background, J2EE servers use custom ClassLoaders (a set of Java Classes that actually load the class into the JVM). The top-level class loaders has classes that are accessible through the JVM (and are usually picked up from the classpath).
The other class loaders load classes that are only accessible within a particular web (or enterprise) application. These classloaders pick classes from the WEB-INF directory. These classloaders also have the capability of dynamically re-loading classes (eg when you change your .jsp file). Finally, the classes loaded are only visible within the web-application so that they do not pollute the global namespace.

Of course, the J2EE specification goes into a lot of depth about class loading, but unless you are designing an application server, you need not understand those details and specifics - just understanding where to place your classes is enough.

Jsp file not able to locate class file in JWS 2.0

i am a beginner at jsp...
my problem....
i have created a jsp file which accesses a SpellCheck.class file..
i am using Java Web Server 2.0...
and in the classpath i have set the classpath variable to c:\javawebserver2.0\lib. I have placed the class file in this directory.
Now when i run the jsp file it gives the following errors...

2. ive placed the .jsp file and the .html file in the JWS2.0/public_html directory... it still does'nt work...

so if you are using pacakges here is normal example...
say you .java code is something like...

}place the .class file at WEB-INF/classes/com/util folder if those folders are missing create it and place the .class file there. or pacakage it as a jar file & put it into WEB-INF/lib folder
Now in jsp you can either use jsp:Usebean tag or use normal scriplets to create an instance of the nessary class...
here is an example for you

%>however,i'd suggest you to make use of JSTL / Inbuilt tag libraries /MVC 2.0 approach for better maintainance & readablity.

Where to place an xml file that is read by java class file dir structure

I have an xml file that I am using in lieu of a database to track conference rooms . This is a small file. I need to read this file from my java class file which is used by a jsp. Currently I have an absolute path C://logger/conference.xml. All works fine but I need to deploy to a different machine soon and so I need to place this file somewhere in the project directory structure (created by netbeans) so that it will be included in the war file and can be read by the java class file.
Also what would be the relative path to this suggested directory.

Adding .class files to your project and making them work.

Ok, im fairly new to java and having trouble understanding how to make importing of .class files work. Im using eclipse 3.2
I have the files in a directory and I have gone to project->properties->java build path->libraries->add external class folder and pointed it to the correct place.
Now, I am trying to use some of the classes it provides. I get no errors when creating the object with this code:
com.ECS.client.jax.ItemSearchRequest itemRequest = new com.ECS.client.jax.ItemSearchRequest();
Before I did the add external class folder that code would error cause it didnt know what com.ECS was. Now it works fine. My problem is that when I try to use a class, it does not recognize it as a class. After doing the above code I have:
itemRequest.setSearchIndex("Books");
its giving me an error on the period, saying: "Syntax error on token(s), misplaced construct(s)". Its not seeing that it is a class, so I can't use it. But when I am creating the object I get no errors. For reference, here is the chunk of code:
com.ECS.client.jax.ItemSearchRequest itemRequest = new com.ECS.client.jax.ItemSearchRequest();
itemRequest.setSearchIndex("Books");
the second line of which errors. So my question is, how do I get it to recognize that the itemRequest is a class when I have imported the .class files to my project already?

It's working fine. It's just that you have to put your code in a method.

How to compile and register a Java CFX tag with multiple class files?

I need to determine how to compile and register a Java CFX
tag that contains multiple class files. One class file implements
the CustomTag interface and the other class files implement various
supporting classes. All of the documentation that I have found
talks about using a single class file. I am assuming that a JAR
file will be involved, but I am not sure of the specifics.

Yes, it will involve a jar. Use your java IDE (eclipse,
etcetera ..) to create a jar containing all of the classes. Check
your ide's documentation for how to create jar files. After you
have created the jar, place the jar in the CF class path so CF will
recognize it. For example the {cf_root}/WEB-INF/lib directory. CF
must be restarted before it will detect the new jar. After
restarting CF, register the CFX tag in the ColdFusion Administrator
using the name of the class that implements the CustomTag
interface.
Though it is worth noting you can also instantiate java
classes directly from ColdFusion (ie without using a CFX
tag).

then at run time the server could not find the class file
if i use,
<%@ page import = "FileName.class" %>
then also the same problem persists
& if i use
<jsp:include page = "Relative address"/>
the problem still remains as it is...
please help me out...i am working on developing an EJB application in which client interacts with server's Stateful session bean through a jsp page...it is necessary for me to include the home interface class file in my jsp page.
P.S. do not suggest me to include the class file in a package & then use

How to load a .class file dynamically?

Does anyone know, how I can create an object of a class, that was compiled during the runtime?
The facts:
- The user puts a grammar in. Saved to file. ANTLR generates Scanner and Parser (Java Code .java)
- I compile these file, so XYScanner.class and XYParser.class are available.
- Now I want to create an object of XYScanner (the classnames are not fixed, but I know the filename). I tried to call the constructor of XYScanner (using reflection) but nothing works and now I am really despaired!
Isn't there any way to instantiate the class in a way like

Which version are you using? Folder strucure differs for 11i and R12 versions.
All the class files will be placed under the JAVA_TOP folder. From there you have to follow your package structure. Here it is oracle/apps/xxogl/f04/cp/file
